The Names of Persons charged vrilk Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. W. D. BUBNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mQ8t be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of two vouths charged with committing a murderous assault on Seth Davy, at Bradford, on the 5th inst. : JOHN HERSON, 16 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes,' light complexion, long face, and blue ink mark between thumb aud finger on left hand ; a dyer; and DAN CONROY, 16 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, round face, and rather stiff build ; a factory hand. lie belongs to the 3rd West York Militia, aud is supposed to be wearing a pair of boots belonging to that regiment; dressed iu black shoot- ing- jacket, dark vest, cord trousers, green and blue scalp cap with peak, and hook to fasten the top to the peak. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Grauham, Bradford, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. FORGERY. Absconded from Ely, Cambs, charged with uttering three forged Cheques for various amounts, signed David Oldfield : a man, about 36 years of age, dark complexion and hair, slightly bald on the top of bead, very little whiskers, and 5 feet 9 inches high; respectably dressed iu dark clothes. He said he was much engaged among clergymen, professed to be ajpoet, and is a great talker. Information to be given to Superintendent Lantsbury, Police Station, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of CHARLES SUTTON, a commercial traveller, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with forgery : about 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, and stout built ; usually dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Barber, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the parson at North Ormesby, near Middles- borough,' on the night of the 11th instant, a patent silver lever Watch, nearly new, No. 3026, engine- turned case, white dial, with 1 Improved Patent' on it, has part of a common Key put through the swivel, had attached a gold plated Chain, which has been broken and doubled, used as an albert guard. By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, and very little whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes aud cap. Information to be given to Super- intendent Simpson, Not 111 Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, North Ormesby, near Middleaborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., May 15. Stolen froro the person at Yatton, on the C'th instant: a double- cased silver lever Watch, engraved on the outside of case ' Henry Collard,' also a silver Guard attached, twist pattern. Infonnation to be given to Superintendent Jones, Flax Bourton, or to Police Constable Gane, Yatton, near Bristol, Somerset.— Bow- street, May 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Duriug the night of the 8th instant the dwelling- house of John B. Lee, Esq., at Sonning, Berks, was burglariously entered and the following property stolen therein : two silver Table Spoons, two large silver Forks, one small Ditto, and one silver nutmeg Grater, all With crest— a town with an eagle on top ; two silver Dessert Spoons, marked ' L ;' two gold scarf Pins', one liorse shoe shape, the other set with blue stones ; a black frock Coat with velvet collar, which has been torn at the back near the loop to hang it up by, and which is also broken ; a pepper- and- salt colour morning Coat, and a leather Purse, containing a Half- Sovereign and two Half- Crowns. Information to be given to Superintendent Willmot, County Police Station, Wokingham, Berks.— Bow- street, May 13. During the night of the 6th instant, the residence of Mr. J. B. Whittard, of Whitchurch, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : a pair of light half Wellington Boots, much worn, and cracked a little across the fronts. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Cope, Ross; or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Harewood End, Herefordshire.— Bmo- street, May 10. During the night of the 3rd instant, the ' Black Horse Inn,' at Kingswood Hill, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : five silver tea Spoons, marked ' G. F. E. D. a silver cream Jug ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; a silver mustard Spoon ; a silver mustard Top; two silver- plated Castors; about £ 2 in Gold and Silver ; and a quantity of Cigars. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Rawle, Fishponds, or to P. C. Sim, Police Station, Kings- wood Hill, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, May 8. During the night of the 29th ultimo, the ' Swan Inn,' at Swinford, in the parish of Bitton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a small drum- shaped brass Time- piece, steel hands, white face, winds at the back, and bent; about 40 lbs. of Bacon; 1 lb. of Tea ; 1 lb. of Tobacco ; and a pint Bottle of Whisky. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or to Sergeant Morley, Police Station, Oldland Common, near Bristol, Glou- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 8. Between 11 p. m. 3rd and 6 a. m. on the 4th instant, a dwelling- house at Great Lsver, near Bolton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein, viz.: a skeleton Clock, white marble stand, ' John Monks' engraved on front of clock ; five volumes of ' Danbique's History of the Reformation ;' the ' Ingoldsby Legends,' marked with coat of arms of the St. John's College, Cambridge, in pink calf; ' Guizot's Oliver Cromwell,' drab calf; ' Milton's Poetical Works,' green calf ; ' Creas/ s Decisive Battles,' pink calf; ' Mansell's Bampton Lectures,' drab calf, with stamp of Rossall School on the back ; ' Keble's Poetical Works,' drab calf, red leaves; Rogers' ditto, pink morocco; Moore's ditto, purple morocco; Milton's ditto, green morocco; Cowper's ditto, green cloth ; ' Boswell's Life of Johnson,' two volumes, green morocco ; ' Stephen's Travels in Central America,' red cloth ; ' Palgrave's Treasury of Songs and Lyrics;' ' Dr. Syntax, Three Tours,' green cloth ; ' Sunsets on the Hebrew Mountains ;' ' Pollock's Foundation Essays ;' the ' Harvest of a Quiet Eye ;' ' Jane Ingelow's Poems,' brown morocco ; six Books, in brown morocco; ' Goethe's Faust' in german, in cloth ; and a small brass Inkstand, with Letter Weight attached. Information to be given to the Superintendent, County Police Office, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, May 8. round hard top hat, heavy nailed lace- up boots, and is a butcher's slaughterman, a native of Birmingham. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Phillips, County Police Station, Worcester.— Bow- street, May 13. The Horse and Cart stolen from Olney, Bucks, on the 4th instant, has been traced to Slough, and a man giving the name of BENSON PRICE, is in custody charged with stealing the same. Also the dark brown mare Pony, advertised as stolen from a field at Hanslope, during the night of the 3rd instant., has been found straying at Gayton, Northampton. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from an out- house at Tongham, the property of John Wheatley, a light brown gelding Donkey, 5 years old, large head, hair rubbed off the hind quarters and back, and stands high. Information to be given to Superintendent Newland, Surrey Constabn- lary, Farnham.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Folkestone on the 30th ulcimo, taking with him a grey Pony, Cart, and Plated Harness, the pro- perty of Mr. Pedue, of the Shades public- house. The Pony and Cart were hired for the day to go to Dover, and offered for sale in Dover by a man dressed in a black suit of clothes, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light curly hair, and very deaf ; about 40 years of age, said he was a native of Chatham and a railway contractor. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Martin, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from the Marshes near Long Reach and adjoining the River Thames, in the parish of Dartford, between 7 a. m. on fhe 6th and 5 a. m. on the 7th instant : two Kent fat Sheep, taken away in a boat. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Police Station, Dartford, Kent — Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a meadow, in the borough of Reigate, on the 2nd instant: two Horses, one a chestnut mare, in good con- dition, 5 years old, about 14 hands high, with a white patch on one side of her cheek, white heels, and switch tail; the other a black gelding, in low condition, about 15 hands high, with grey hairs down the nose, from old age, and very high withers, and switch tail, the property of Mr. William Lamber, butcher, residing at Redhiil. Information to be given to Head Constable Rogers, Redhiil, Surrey.— Bow- street, May 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field in the borough of Rochdale, about the 10th instant, a bay mare Pony, aged, ll£ hands high, in poor condition, lame in near fore leg, and short tail. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Stevens, Town Hall, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen from a field in the parish of Ippollits, near Ste- venage, during the night of the 8th instant, a heavy bay cart Mare, aged, in middling coudition, about 16 hands high, with a white patch of hair on the near side of head, caused by the bridle chafing it, and one hind heel white. It ( was traced on the following morning to Holloway, London. Information to be given to Inspector Reynolds, Stevenage, Herts.— — Bow- street, May 17. Supposed to have been stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the road- side at Bassett, North Stoneham, a light colour grey Horse, 12i hands high, well made, in good condition, has a wall- eye, and broken knees. A reward of £ 1 will be paid on the recovery of the horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Stan- nard, Hants Constabulary Station, Bitterne.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of a man who is charged with stealing a Horse and Cart ( recovered), from the ' George Inn,' Long- fleet, Poole, on the 2nd instant: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers cut short, cut on side of mouth, and has a limping walk ; dressed in an old dark coat, which he generally wears buttoned up, old black trousers, and black round hat. Supposed to have been in the army. Information to be given to Head Constable Hunt, Poole, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from a field at Kempsey, near Worcester, early on the morning of the 9th instant : an aged red roan mare Pony, nearly thorough bred, about 14 hands high, several white saddle marks, white star on forehead, white spot on one hind foot, one knee broken, long tail, and had lost one shoe, the property of Mr. Jones, of Pidbury, Worcester. A man of the following description was met at four o'clock same morning leading the stolen Pony on the turnpike road from Worcester to Birmingham : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy hair cut short, and stoutly built; dressed in blue cloth jacket, a butcher's blue slop underneath, ^ corduroy trousers, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Walsall on the 9th ultimo, a chimney sweep- ing Machine, with five new rods and one old, length 30 feet: by a man, who travels as a sweep and umbrella mender, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, mark upon forehead, broad features, and stout. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Police Office, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen on the 12 th instant, from the house of John Summers, No. 35, New- street, Burton- on- Trent: a white linen Apron, a white calico Shirt, a new striped Shirt, a black cloth Cap, a man's corduroy Jacket, and a mat Basket. By a man, who came to lodge there the previous day, and represented he was a coach builder on his way from Lichfield to Derby, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6i inches high, dark hair, and clean shaved; dressed in a long black cloth coat, dark trousers, black cap, and white apron. Information to be given to Superintendent Oswell, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire— Bow- street, May 15. Absconded from Brook, Somersetshire, charged with embezzling 10s. 7Ad., WALTER DODGE, 25 to 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, and squints; has a pugilistic appearance. He is a baker, and will probably be found working at his trade in one of the adjoining counties to Somerset. Information to be given to Superintendent Sheppard, Constabulary Office, Wincanton, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension and will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of Bombardier CHARLES HENRY WATSON, charged with desertion and stealing .£ 26 at Sheerness, on the evening of the 9th instant ; he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 11J inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, and broad feat ires; dressed iu a suit of dark mixed cloth clothes, and round felt hat. Left in company with a woman wearing a red plaid shawL Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sitting- bourne, Kent.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from the house of Mr. Wood, of Yearsley, farmer, a pair of strong lace- up Boots, nearly new, with toe and heel plates, soles heavily nailed, and of medium size, the property of Charles Coates, a servant By a man who had been in Mr. Wood's service, about 6 weeks, and absconded during the night of the 12th instant: he is 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, much sunburnt, light hair, worn very long, tattooed on both arms and breast; dressed in grey cloth coat and vest, brown cord trousers, blue cloth cap with french peak, and the stolen boots; he is a native of Suffolk, and stated that he had been two years in America. Information to be given to Acting Inspector Nicholson, North Riding Constabulary, Thirsk.— Boic- street, May 15. By THOMAS WILLIAMS, a servant, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light brown hail and whiskers round the chin, not very uushy, and pale face ; was seen iu Hereford the following day wear- ing the stolen clothes. He has been living in Clyro the hist six months, and said his previous situation was near Teubury, Worcestershire; has friends living near Abergavenny, or between there aud Newport, Monmouthshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Wheeldon, Penybout, or to Police Constable Sankey, Clyro, near Hay, Radnorshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Mai/ 13. Stolen on the 6th instaut from No. 31, Waketield- street, Regent- square: tli'ee gold Rings— one coral, engraved ' Sarah,' one with pearls, and one with garnets ; a Blanket; a Tablecloth ; and several Towels. By a woman, a servant, 55 years of age, 5 feet 2 iuches high, dark complexion, grey hair ; dressed in a black cloak.— Metropolitan Police, E 1hoi- lion, May 13. Stolen from a public- house iu Madeley, on the 8th inst., a double- cased silver lever Watch, No. 19075, ' Bennett, Cheapside, London,' on dial, a gold albert Chain, Seal, Key, and gold Locket, blue enamel attached. By two men who lodged at the house the previous night, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light complexion, no whis- kers ; dressed in light brown loose overcoat, light trousers, and hard billycock bat, lias worked at Maris & Norton's, Bull- street, Birmingham, also at Buggins, draper, Worcester; the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair and complexion, whiskers shaved oft", dark moustachej; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeaiit Wyley, Madoley, Salop.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a grey woollen Shawl, with white stripe round the'border ; a grey woollen Skirt, with dark stripe round it ; a brown market Basket, size about 18 inches by 12 inches; a few white lineu Aprons; and j£ 38s. 3d. in Money: CATHERINE McKELVIE, wife of Walter McKelvie, maiden name Catherine Whiteside, a native of Glasgow, a weaver by trade, low set, rather stout, 26 years of age, good looking, frosh complexion, aud dark hair; dressed when last seen in the stolen shawl, black bonnet with greeu flower in, and cotton print dress. Information to be given to Inspector Saxtou. Egremont, near Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 10 Absconded on the 26th ultimo, charged oil a warrant with embezzlement : HARRY F. FUDGE, clerk, late of 14, Witley- road, Upper Holloway, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout built, fresh complexion, fair hair, parted down the centre, slight moustache aud whiskers; dressed in blue or grey tweed coat, and black round top hat; had with him when he left, au old blauk portmanteau, about 18 iuches long.; Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— bow- street, May 10. Absconded on the 6th instant, from No. 12, Tavistock - square, stealing three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, £ 13 in Gold, and a gold Geneva Watch, ' 434' scratched in the case, the property of her mistress : a woman, 3o years of age, 5 feet 2 inches higb, dark complexion, black hair aud eyes, front teeth deficient; dressed iu grey waterproof cloak, white bonnet, aud side spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion, Mat/ 10. Absconded from Great Driffield, on the 1st instant, WALTER BALL, grocer's assistant, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued on a charge of embezzlement: he is a native of Newark, where his father resides, aud has travelled with groceries iu the North and East Hidings, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair aud eyes, sallow complexion, high forehead, and rather prominent front teeth ; wore a dark suit and stiff ielt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield.— Bow- street, Mai/ 8. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from No. 67a, officer's quarters, West- square, Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich : a leather hand Bag ; a dark tweed Suit an old pea Jacket; a pair of light cloth Trousers ; six white linen Shirts ; four white Hnen Collars, all marked ' F. A. Bowles,' and date ; a set of plain gold Studs ; and about £ 4 in Gold aud Silver. By a driver in Ihe Royal Artillery, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes ; dressed in the stolen clothes.— Metro- politan Police, R Division, May 8. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from 302, Strand, stealing, £ 87 19s., the monies of his employer : a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin, sandy hair and moustache, no whiskers, is iu bad health, coughs very mnch ; dressed in brown overcoat, light tweed undercoat, and high black hat, maker Baynton, Strand ; is a native of Edinburgh. Metro- politan Police, E Division, May 8. of Canterbury, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, ronnd shoulders, and stoops; ho attends auctions removing goods ; dressed in a black frock coat, dark trousers, and black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Police Office, Canterbury, Kent.— Bow- street, May 8. Description of WALTER SUMAN, a yacht builder's clerk, who is charged with obtaining £ i by false pretences : about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, rather fair, slight build, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed respectably, is of good address, and gentlemanly appearance. He says he has a relative at Manny Villa, Lymington, Hants. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birming- ham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 8. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Description of H. S. D. RICHARDSON, who is charged with committing a rape upon a girl, 12 years of age, on the 23rd ultimo : lie is about 3.) years o£ age, about 0 feat 8 ins. high, round face, light complexion aud hair, dark eyes, faee shaved quite clean, and has a pleasing countenance when speaking ; dressed iu black frock coat, grey mixture trousers, may be wearing a pair of striped ditto, black silk hat, sugar loaf shape, with broad baud, sometimes wears a black billy- cock hat, may be wearing a dark grey double- breasted over- coat, and generally wears a small diamond ring on one little finger. He is a barrister, and is well known on the Northern Circuit. He left Hanley, on the 2nd instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Alexander, Hanley, Stafford- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- Street, May 8. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of EDWARD J. MILLS, charged with obtaining £ 3 15s. on the 20th ultimo, from Mr. Owen, George Hotel, Lichfield, by means of a false cheque, purporting to be drawn by Horace Lonsdale on Messrs. Cox ahd Co., Craigs- court, London. He 1 is of respectable appearance, good address, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, thin figure, sharp features, and no beard or nioustache. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Hernaman, Guild- hall, Lichfield, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Canterbury, charged with obtaining Money by false pretences : GEORGE MARTIN, a native MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of licence- holder WILLIAM MILLS, No, 36, who has failed to comply with the provisions Of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : he is 43 yearn of age, 5 faet - 6 inches high, - fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, marked on right arm ' W. M.' aud crucifix, on left arm a man, woman, and ilag : lie was sentenced to seven years' penal servitude for housebreaking and larceny at Canterbury, on 16th October, 1866 ; his sentence will expire on 15th October, 1873. Ho is to be apprehended by any Constable prior to expiration Of sentence, and the fact reported to Superinten- dent Morgan, Kent County Constabulary, Cranbrook.— — Bow- street, Alay 17.
