Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found at 2 p m. on the 28th ultimo, in a field iu the occupation of Mr. John Weighall, leading from Whitby to Buswarp, the dead body of a newly born male child ; an inquest was held on the 29th ultimo, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. From the medical testimony, it appeared the child had been grasped by the throat until it died. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North Biding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 3. Charged with the wilful murder of her infant Child, aged three months, at Manchester, on the 4tli ultimo : ANN REGAN, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, thin pale features, large nose, brown eyes, and dark brown hair ; dressed in an old black velvet bonnet, dark grey jacket, and brown skirt. She will probably call at workhouses iu the country, as she has no settled abode. Information to be giveu to the Deputy Chief Constable, Town Hall, Man- chester.— Bow- street, May 1. FORGERY. Description of WALTER SHEARMON, late secretary to the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, No. 3 Branch, Birmingham, who is charged with forgery : 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full sandy beard and moustache, fair complexion, fresh colour, high shoulder bones, which makes him appear hollow in the back, a little bow- legged, has lost little finger light hand as far as second joint, which nas grown very thick, he is a native of Swindon, where his friends reside, and he formerly was an apprentice in the engine sheds at that place. It is believed he will emigrate. Information to be giveu to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow street, May 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Yatton, on the fc'th instant : a double- cased silver lever Watch, engraved on the outside of case ' Henry Collard,' also a silver Guard attached, twist pattern. Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, Flax Bourton, or to Police Constable Gane, Yatton, near Bristol, Somerset.— Bmo- street, May 10. Stolen from the person of Mr. Henry King, on the New- market Race- course, on the 30th ultimo . a gold Watch, open face, ' J- G. P.' on the back. Information to be giveu to Inspector Steggle, Newmarket, West Suffolk.— Bow- street, Man 3 Stolen about 10' 30 p. m. on the 24th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman at Durham : a patent silver lever Watch, No. 40177, maker French, Newcastle- on- Tyne. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wilson, Town Hall, Durham - Bow- street, May 1. BURG LAKY AND MOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the lith iustant, the residence of Mr. J. B. Whittard, of Whitchurch, was burglariously entered, aud stolen thereiu : a pair of light half Wellington Boots, much worn, and cracked a little across the fronts. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Cope, Ross ; or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Harewood End, Herefordshire. - Dow- street, May 10, During the night of the 3rd instant, the ' Black Horse Inn,' at Kingswood Hill, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : five silver tea Spoons, marked F. E. D.;' a silver cream Jug ; a pair of silver sugar Imigs ; a silver mustard Spoon ; a silver mustard Top; two silver- plated Castors ; about £ 2 in Gold and Silver ; and a quantity of Cigars. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Rawle, Fishponds, or to P. C. Sim, Police Station, Kings- wood Hill, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, May 8. During the night of the 29th ultimo, the ' Swan Inn,' at Swinford, iu the parish of Bitton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a small drum- shaped brass Time- piece, steel hands, white face, winds at the back, and bent; about 40 lbs. of Bacon; 1 lb. of Tea ; 1 lb. of Tobacco ; and a pint Bottle of Whisky. Stolen in the borough of Maldon, by means of house- breaking, between 9 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 2nd instant, the property of John Crow, labourer : a black cloth Coat; a pair of dark cloth ribbed Trousers; two Vests, one dark and one drab cloth ; a black scarf Shawl; six yards of drab Cloth ; two old German silver Watches, No. 2392, maker Rentnor, London. Information to be given to Head Constable King, Maldon, Essex.— Bow- street, May 6. Between 6 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Thomas Metcalfe, of Slip Inn, in the town- ship of Blackwell, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, swivel broken and repaired with a common pin, a Half- sovereign, 9s. 6d. in Silver, 6d. in Copper, and a quantity of cooked Meat. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Police Office, Darlington, Durham.— Bow- street, May 6. During the afternoon of the 26th ultimo, the gardener's- house at Z. Walkers, Esq., of Hall Green, iu the parish of Yardley, Worcestershire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 3 in Gold; 16s. 3d. in Silver; a silver Geneva Watch, with white enamel dial, sunken seconds, No. 66447. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Aston, or to Sergeant Higginson, Constabulary Station, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 3. During the night of the 29th ultimo, the house and shop of Mr. Lock, draper, of Hoddesdon, was broken and entered by a back window, and stolen therein: two Cheques, one for .£ 33, on Sharples and Co., Hertford, the other for £ 11 13s., on the London Joint Stock Bank; about £ 15 in Gold, 10s. in Silver, and some Copper Money ; two dozens of gentlemen's silk Handkerchiefs, some ladies' ditto and Scarfs, and a quantity of ladies' kid Gloves, Nos. 8, 8£, and 6£. Information to be giveu to Sergeant Prennett, Hoddesdon, or to Superintendent Bygrave, Ware, Herts.— Bow- street, May 3. On the night of the 29th ultimo, a grocer's shop in Newent, Was broken and entered, and about 10s. in Silver and Copper, and a dark small ribbed cloth Jacket, nearly new, to fit a small size man, pockets at side, stolen thereiu. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, May 1. During the night of the 26th ultimo, Cymman Hall, in the parish of Hope, Flintshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: a quantity of Wall Paper; an Ale Tap ; a Hand Saw and an Axe, both stamped ' J. Evans ;' a Brace and Bit; a Cold Chisel; a Hand Plane and Pincers; a Tool Basket; a Hand Brush; and a pair of women's cloth Boots. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Adams, Mold, Flintshire, North Wales.— Bow- street, 1. off the hind quarters and back, and stands high. Information to be given to Superintendent Newland, Surrey Constabu- lary, Famham.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Folkestone on the 30th ultimo, taking with him a grey Pony, Cart, and Plated Harness, the pro- perty of Mr. Pedue, of the Shades public- house. The Pony and Cart were hired for the day to go to Dover, and offered for sale in Dover by a man dressed in a black suit of clothes, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light curly hair, and very deaf ; about 40 years of age, said he was a native of Chatham and a railway contractor. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Martin, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from the Marshes near Long Reach and adjoining the River Thames, in the parish of Dartford, between 7 a- m. on the 6th and 5 a. m. on the 7th instant : two Kent fat Sheep, taken away in a boat. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Police Station, Dartford, Kent. — Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a field at Hanslope, during the night of the 3rd instant: a brown mare Pony, 4 years old, standing 12 hands high, and is in rather low condition, two scissor clips on the near shoulder, cuts its off fetlock joint when travelling, black legs, mane, and tail, and is saddle inarked upon the back. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Police Station, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- st., May 10. Description of a man who hired a Horse and Spring Cart at Olney, Bucks, on the 4th inBtant, stating he was going to Turvey, Beds, and has since absconded, stealing the same : He is 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, and bald on forehead; dressed in dark tweed suit, and side- spring boots. Staged that he was agent for Ransom and Sims, Implement Makers, Ipswich. The Horse is 6 years old, 15i hands high, dark brown and well bred, Cart nearly new, painted green and dark inside, vithout name, and is the property of Mr. John Suck Field, Olney, innkeeper. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks, or to Sergeant Batchelor, Olney, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a meadow, in the borough of Reigate, on the 2nd instant: two Horses, one a chestnut mare, in good con- dition, 5 years old, about 14 hands high, with a white patch on one side of her cheek, white heels, and switch tail; the other a black gelding, in low condition, about 15 hands high, with grey hairs down the nose, from old age, and very high withers, and switch tail, the property of Mr. William Lamber, butcher, residing at Redhill. Information to be given to Head Constable Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen from a field in Tarvin, during the night of the 28th ultimo, a strawberry- coloured, two year old, barren Heifer, with almost white face, and in good condition. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May C. Found in Bridgnorth, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark brown mare Pony, in foal, shoes taken off the hind feet, aged, and about 12 hands high. Information to be given to Head Constable Cole, Borough Police Office, Bridg- north.— Bow- street, May 6. Further information respecting the Mare, Cart, and Harness, & c., stolen from Foleshill, during the night of the 12th ult., and reported in the Police Gazette of the 17th ult.: the near shaft of the cart has been broken near the end, and repaired by two iron plates, one ou each side, about a foot long, a small hole through one of the bottom boards, near the back of the cart, mended by nailing a piece of board on the under side ; the mare has a scar caused by a kick on the back- side, and near the middle of the near thigh. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, or to inspector Olliver, Longford, Coventry, Warwick.— Bow- street, May 6. Stolen from off a common at Pinkneys Green, Berks, on the 30th ultimo : a brown cob Mare, 3 years old, about 13 hands high, off fore and off hind heel white, star on forehead, white blaze down the face leading to right nostril, tail cut square at the hocks, thick mane, and in poor condi- tion. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, County Police Office, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- street, May 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from an out- house at Tongham, the property of John Wheatley, a light brown gelding Donkey, 5 years old, large head, hair rubbed LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a public- house in Madeley, on the Sth inst., a double- cased silver lever Watch, No. 19075, ' Bennett, Cheapside, London,' on dial, a gold albert Chain, Seal, Key, and gold Locket, blue enamel attached. By two men who lodged at the house the previous night, one about 30 j ears of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light complexiou, no whis- kers ; dressed in light brown loose overcoat, light trousers, and hard billycock hat, has worked at Maris & Norton's, Bull- street, Birmingham, also at Buggins, draper, Worcester; the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair and complexion, whiskers shaved off, dark moustache ; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Wyley, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a grey woollen Shawl, with white stripe round the border ; a grey woollen Skirt, with dark stripe round it; a brown P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. May 10. market Basket, size about 18 inches by 12 inches ; a few white linen Aprons; and £ 3 8s, 3d. in Money: CATHERINE McKELVIE, wife of Walter McKelvje, maiden name Catherine Whiteside, a native of Glasgow, a weaver by trade, low set, rather stout, 26 years of age, good looking, fresh complexion, aud dark hair; dressed when last seen in the stolen shawl, black bonnet with green flower in, and cotton print dress. Information to be given to Inspector Saxton. Egremont, near Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Sow- street, May 10 Absconded on the 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : HARRY F. FUDGE, clerk, late of 14, Witley- road, Upper Holloway, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout built, fresh complexion, fair hair, parted down the centre, slight moustache and w hiskers; dressed in blue or grey tweed coat, aud black round top hat; had with him when he left, an old black portmanteau, about 18 inches long. Absconded on the 6th instant, from No. 12, Tavistock- square, stealing three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, £ 13 in Gold, and a gold Geneva Watch, [ 434' scratched in the case, the property of her mistress : a woman, 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, black hair and eyes, front teeth deficient; dressed iu grey waterproof cloak, white bonnet, and side spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion, May 10. Absconded from Great Driffield, on the 1st instant, WALTER BALL, grocer's assistant, for whose apprehension a warrant lias been issued on a charge of embezzlement: he is a native of Newark, where his father resides, aud has travelled with groceries in the North and East Ridings, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark bair and eyes, sallow complexion, high forehead, and rather prominent front teeth ; wore a dark suit and stiff felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from No. 67a, officer's quarters, West- square, Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich : a leather hand Bag ; a dark tweed Suit an old pea Jacket ; a pair of light cloth Trousers ; six white linen Shirts ; four white linen Collars, all marked ' F. A. Bowles,' aud date ; a set of plain gold Studs ; and about £ 4 in Gold and Silver. By a driver in the Royal Artillery, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes ; dressed in the stolen clothes.— Metro- politan Police, R Division, May 8. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from 302, Strand, stealing, £ 87 19s., the monies of liis employer : a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin, sandy hair aud moustache, no Circuit. He left Hanley, on the 2nd instant. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Alexander, Hanley, Stafford- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Mail 8. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of EDWARD J. MILLS, charged with obtaining £ 3 15s. on the 20th ultimo, from Mr. Owen, George Hotel, Lichfield, by means of a false cheque, purporting to be drawn by Horace Lonsdale on Messrs. Cox aud Co., Craigs- court, Loudon. He is of respectable appearance, good address, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, thin figure, sharp features, and no beard or moustache. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent liernaman, Guild- hall, Lichfield, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Canterbury, charged with obtaining Money by false pretences : GEORGE MARTIN, a native of Canterbury, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, round shoulders, and stoops; he attends auctions removing goods ; dressed in a black frock coat, tfilk trousers, and black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Police Office, Canterbury, Kent.— Bow- street, May 8. Description of WALTER SUMAN, a yacht builder's clerk, who is charged with obtaining £ 3 by false pretences : about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, rather fair, slight build, no whiskers or moustache : dressed respectably, is of good address, and geutlemanly appearance. He says he has a relative at Manny villa, Lymington, Hants. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birming- ham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 8. Further information respecting JOSEPH WALKER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th of March last, charged with obtaining four Pigs under false pretences, from Rich. Rogers, farmer, of Trelyston, near Welshpool : he is supposed to be working as a journeyman butcher in some part of Radnershire or Herefordshire. A reward of £ 1 will be paid on his apprehension aud conviction. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Strefford, or to Police Constable Ellis, Police Station, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., May 3. Description of THOMAS CROOK, who is in custody at Petersfieid, charged with committing an indecent assault, and remanded till the 14th instant : he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, ginger hair and whiskera, and the letter ' D' on left side ; dressed in a white slop, moleskin trousers, black vest, red plaid scarf, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; states he is a native of Chichester, Sussex, that he had served a year and a half in the 13th Regt. of Foot, and was discharged at Aldershot as a bad character. has absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing a Rug, a pair of Reins, a Saddle, and two Shovels, the property of William Cole : he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, dark complexion and hair, small dark whiskers and moustache, and walks rather quickly ; dressed in low- crowned hat, speckled coat, aud Bedford cord trousers.
