Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. » # » Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot bo published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Further particulars of the murder of James Hudson, of Manningham, Bradford, on the 16th instant. The murder is supposed to have been commited by three men, ( two of whom are in custody), but the third is still at large : his name is PHIL or PHILIP McCUE, alias JOHN HARDY, about 1 gold Brooch, set with rubies. 1 gold guard Chain, curb pattern. 1 gold Chain, Belcher pattern. 1 gold Guinea. 1 American 5- dollar Piece. 1 electro- plated Teapot, Cream Jug, and Salt Cellar, acorn pattern. 9 electro- plated Dessert Forks, plain pattern. 1 round gold plated Locket, with dark hair in it. 1 broad gold Ring, set with glass, has the letter ' D.' underneath. 1 small square gold Brooch, studded round with black stones. 6 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' D. C.' 1 silver Dessert Spoon, marked ' J. B.' 1 pair of old- fashioned silver Sugar Tongs. 1 silver Cream Jug, marked ' M. M.' or ' M.' I electro- plated Pickle Fork. 1 jet Ring, with gold setting, has the inscription ' In Memory of John and Jane Bell.' 1 jet Brooch, gold setting, small diamond in centre, and studded with pearls. 1 silver Brooch, in the shape of a knot. 1 silver Thimble. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunder- land, Durham.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in the parish of Horsted- Keynes, Sussex, on the 21st inst. : an old- fashioned gold Watch, white dial, Roman figures, has two small dents in the outside case, red silk Guard and brass Key attached ; a small magnifying Glass, in tortoiseshell frame, silver- mounted ; a green silk Purse, with two steel rings and steel bead tassel at each end ; and a square calico Purse, containing 4s. 6d. iu Silver. Supposed by three tramps : one is about 6 feet high, dark complexion, black hair, and slight make; dressed in old dark jacket and low black hat : another about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, and slight make ; dressed in light slop and light drab hat; and the other is about 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion and 20 years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, fresh complexion, grey " ;, v , . j,— eyes, brown hair ( cut short both back and front), very still' hair and slight make : dressed in an old dark jacket and dark " J .7'. - , v J i . i ..„ low hat. Information to be given at the , Chief Constables build, scar on forehead, mole on right breast and under right arm, cut mark supposed on right ear, and two moles under left; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, white smock underneath, check shirt, moleskin trousers, nearly new, but Office, Lewes, to to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex. — Bow- street, February 26. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 21st instant, the dwelling- dirty, black high billycock hat, with flat top, and a pair of house of Abraham Weller, at the parish of Worth, Sussex, Targe clogs ; he is a native of Staleybridge, but has resided sometime in Keighley, and cohabited with a girl named May Carroll; he has worked either at Prince Smiths or Low Brigg, as a moulder or mechanic ; he is a slater's labourer, and has a brother a Stotts Mill, Brighouse. A reward of £ 50 will be paid for the appprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 26. Found on the 16th instant, under a hedge near Chester, the dead body of a newly- born female child, wrapped iu a piece of old puce and brown striped petticoat. At an inquest held on the 19th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Informa- tion to be given at the County Police Office, Foregate street, Chester.— Bow- street, February 23. At 1T0 a. m. on the 16th instant, James Hudson, over- looker, at Manningham, was murdered iu Heaton- road, near the Corporation Reservoir, Manningham, Bradford, and there was stolen from his person a Purse containing about £ Z in Money, a pair of cotton Gloves, and a pair of new narrow ribbed cotton cord Trousers, with rule pocket made of drab twilled jean in the right side ; the trousers would fit a man about 5 feet 4 inches high. The murder is supposed to have been committed by a tramp, as a very old pair of patched corduroy trousers, and deceased's gloves and empty purse were found in a brick kiln about 200 yards from where the murder was committed ; the old trousers left would probably fit a roan 5 feet 2 inches high. Information to be given to Chief CONstable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 21. FORGERY. Description of JOSEPH HIRST, oil merchant, Batley Carr, Dewsbury, Yorkshire, charged at Leeds, with forgery : he is 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark hair and beard, rather large nose, and wide mouth ; dressed in a kind of Scotch tweed suit, and short buff- coloured leather leggings. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, or to Superintendent Hunt, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sunderland, between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 25tli instant, by means of house- breaking : 1 silver lever Watch, No. 32057, maker Airey, Sunder- land. 6 silver Tea Spoons, shell pattern, marked ' IT.' 1 gold reversible mourning Brooch, with white hair on one Side, other side white hair in centre and dark at corners. was broken into, and a small silver Geneva Watch, single case, six old copper Coins, a small metal Syringe, and three Half- sovereigns, stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 23. Stolen between 11 p. m. the 17th, and 8 a. m. on the 18th instant, from the shop of Mr. Edmund John Hardman, jeweller, 64, Bull- street, Birmingham, by means of cutting the shutter : 22 bright gold albert Chains, various patterns. 7 bright gold guard Chains, various patterns. 3 bright gold Necklets. 132 ladies fancy Rings, various patterns. 57 bright gold signet Rings, various patterns. £ 20 reward will be given to any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the whole of the property, or a reward in proportion to the amount recovered; and £ 5 reward ou conviction only. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Breach, Town Hall, Hove, Brighton.— Bow- street, February 21. Between 6 and 9' 30 p. m. the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Ann Burgess, situated in Barrington- street, was entered during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen therein : a gold Brooch, has a hole in the centre, and flowered round the edges; an old- fashioned wedding Ring ; and £ 5 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sunderland, between 3 p. m. on the 16th, and 12 noon on the 17th instant, by means of housebreaking: 1 gold oval- shaped Brooch, large size, a gentleman's portrait inside, twisted gold round the glass, the centre is reversible and works on a pivot. 1 silver card Case. 1 gold pencil Case. 1 baby's silver Whistle and Bells, marked on the mouth- piece ' W. N. B.' 2 gold dress Rings, one with a blue stone in centre, and pearls at the side, the other has the figure of a snakes head on it, with two small stones to form eyes. 1 gold- plated albert Chain, with a gold Franc- piece attached. 1 pair of gold Ear- drops, round shape 1 old- fashioned silver Watch, ' R. S. Burkett' scratched on the outside of inner case. 1 silver Geneva Watch, has ' Jacob Joseph,' on the dial, has ' Mary Naizby, January, 1851,' scratched on out- side of inner case. 1 gold Brooch, with a cairngorm stone in centre, the pin broken in centre. Stolen from a house at Eccles, between 6T5 pm and 8- 15 p. m., on the 18th instant, by housebreaking : twelve silver dessert Spoons; twelve silver dessert Forks ; twelve silver tea Spoons; six silver table Spoons ; six silver Forks ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, all marked ' W. G.;' a silver salt Spoon ; a twisted gold Brooch, set with imitation turquoise stones; a lady's gold Ring, set with six turquoise stones; and about 15s. in Money. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given at the County Police Station, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, February 21. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of two men committed for trial at the ensuing sessions for the county of Monmouth, charged with sheep stealing : JAMES DIX, alias GIBBS, a navvy, 33 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, smart, upright, and well " made, brown hair, fresh complexion, grey eyes, a native of Bedminster, Somerset; supposed to have been convicted in Devonshire for stealing a tobacco- box from a public- house. WILLIAM BROWN, alias ALFRED DARLING, alias LONG ALF, 23 years of age, 5 feet 10£ inches high, propor- tionate make, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, and has a scar on left cheek ; is a native of Woking, Surrey. Both these men are well known on various railways and 2 POLICE GAZETTE. March 1. public works. Information to be given at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Usk ; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouth.— Bow- street, February 28. Description of a navvy charged with killing and stealing a Sheep, on the night of the 13th ultimo, ou the Coldra Farm, Christchurch, Newport : belongs to tha neighbourhood of Chard, Somerset, from 32 to 35 years of age, from 5 feet 4 to 6 inches high, very broad across the chest, dark complexion, very dark or black hair cut short, small whiskers and mous- tache ; was in the neighbourhood of Willington, Somerset, about a week since ; he is well known ou railway and public works by the name of BLACK SAM. Information to be given to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary Station, Newport, Monmouth.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from Seaton Ross, on the 18th instant, a black nag bred Mare, 9 years old, 15 hands high, in fair condition, switch tail, rather " lame- in near fore foot, aud hae a rough cBut from sleeping out, the property of Mr. Francis Leak, of Hotham Carr, farmer. Stolen from a field on the Longbridge- road, near Warwick, either on the nights of the 17th or the 18th instant, a bay Mare, aged, 15 hauds 3 inches high, three white heete, white blaze on f; fore- leg, and the .... „ . Jas. Austin, butcher, Old- square, Warwick. Information to be' given to Chief Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street. February 21. Postmaster- General : HENRY FRAMPTON, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, smart and active, of good education, and late a telegraph store keeper ; dressed iu high hat, dark overcoat, dark trousers, and carried a small black bag. He took a ticket for Reading, by the 8 a. m. train, on the 23rd instant, and was last seen on the up platform at Reading, at 9 a. m. the same day, and is supposed to have gone to Loudon or Birmingham, his father lives in or near the latter town. He served in the Chatham Division of Royal Engineers, in 1868, he enlisted at Dover in 1867, and is likely to be found iu London or Birmingham, and may ship at Liverpool for America. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd,. Basingstoke, Hants, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, aud will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- gtreel,. February 26. Description of JOHN HULL, alias CHARLES- HILL, alias CHARLES DAVIS, charged with embezzlement, at Stockton- on- tees ; Iter is aboYi* 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high,, light complexion, red hair, ginger whiskers and mous- tache, lias- foiely been, employed! in seeking orders for marble Ere places, books, Sc. ; dressed iu light brown overcoat, dark trousers, lace; up boots, silk liat, and generally black leather leggings ; Ee has recently resided at Darliugton, and has a relative Iwisg" at Kenton, near Dudley, Staffordshire, he has another, an uncle named Samuel Davis, lodging with Mrs. Samphires, Nineveh- lane, Handsworth, nr. Birmingham. Description of JOHN WESTON, a grocer's assistant, who has absconded charged with embezzling ou the 27th ult., 6s. lHd. at Great Wigston, Leicestershire, the property of his master, Mr. Ebenezer Whitehead, of Belgrave- gate, Leicester, grocer : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, long dark whiskers, thick fleshy hauds, turns his left foot out very much when walking, " has a recent cut on the back of his head, caused by a fall, and the hair has been cut off round it ; he has kept a grocer's shop Description of JAMES SISMAN, charged with stealing ou the morning of the 18th instant, at Tipton : a silver lever Watch, KPo, 29684, makers Mole and Lane, Birmingham, and a Purse, containing £ 1 7s. 3d. : he is 12 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches- high, light hair, grey eyes, light complexion, and as a rash or breaking- out ou one side of his face ; dressed in a at Sutton, iu Bedfordshire, and has also resided at Liverpool, dark plaid suit, and black cloth cap; he booked for London Information to be given to Superintendent Burdett, AyleStone, near Leicester, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— How- street, March 1. CHARLES NOYSE and FREDERICK WILLIAMS, advertised iu the Police Gazette of tlie 19th ultimo, as absconding from Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, charged with stealing Butter, Cheese, Ham, and Bacon, have been appre- hended aud committed for trial at the Assizes.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen in the city of Coventry, on the 28tli ultimo : a gold hunting Watch, 14 size, 2 plate, expansion balance, independent centre, small seconds, double sunk, white dial, jewelled in six or eight holes, aud extra dome back, Brockle- bank's patent. By JOHN WILSON, a tailor, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate build, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers or moustache, a number of pimples on face ; dressed in a black cloth jacket bound with' braid, much worn, black cloth trousers, light double- breasted vest, audi high black silk hat; sometimes seeks engagements at musio halls, & c., singing and performing with heavy weights. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.—• Bow- street, March 1. ASHTON WROE, alias DASH WROE, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th ultimo, has been apprehended. — Bow- street, March. 1. Absconded from Falgarth, Breconshire, on the 15th inst., charged on a warrant with larceny, as a bailee, of a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 39654 : GEORGE THOMAS, a travelling watchmaker, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high, slight figure, pale complexion, brown hair, cut short, dark sandy whiskers, small features, steps short aud quick ; dressed in a black bowler hat, black cloth frock coat, and supposed black cloth trousers aud vest. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Constabulary Office, Watton, Brecon ; to Superintendent Evans, Crickhowell; or to P. C. 18 Joseph, Breconshire Constabulary, Falgarth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.- Bow- street, Feb. 28. Stolen betwefen 4- 30 aud 5T5 p. m. on the 26th inst., from a dwelling- house in Upton park, Slough, Bucks : six Table Forks aud Spoons ; six Dessert Forks ; a Sugar Sifter ; and a Butter Knife ; all silver ; also six plated Dessert Spoons ; all with wolf's head crest; the table forks and spoons have unusually long handles, and have no hall mark, being of Foreign manufacture. By four men of the fdHowing description : One about 34 years of age, and had the appearand of a Foreigner ; dressed in dark clothes, and low hard felt hrtt. They had with them a grey horse and a dark green cat't. Two of the men with the horse and cart were traced as lor as Breutford on the evening of the robbery going iu the' difacta^ n of London. £ 5 reward shall be paid to any person who will give such information as may lead to the apprehension, audi conviction of the offender or offenders aud recovery of the property. Cuck field, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 26. instant, dressed in the undermentioned Clothing, the property of the Guardians of the Settle Union : a black cotton cord Jacket and pair of Trousers ; a moleskin Vest; a grey calico Shirt, marked ' Settle Union, No. 2 | 73 ;' a pair of Stockings; and a pair of Boots. He is 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ginger whiskers, pug nose, stout build, blue marks about his eyes, caused by an explosion, or by being cut with coal, he is a coal miner, aud a native of the neighbourhood of Wigan, Lancashire ; he has recently been working on the new line of railway from Settle to Carlisle, at Dents Head. On the morning of the 23rd instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Child, was found on the side of the road near Coalport Railway Station, Salop, wrapped in a black winsey apron, bound with black braid, and a piece of twilled calico, with a patch on it, both very dirty ; it is supposed to have been brought there by train. At the inquest held on the 24th instant, a verdict of ' Found Dead' was returned.
