The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that, all communications for the pur-' pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ulr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. V Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the 1 Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As ao charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. 4KURDER AND MALICIOUS!.?* WOUNDING. Found in a plantation at Birkenshaw, Yorkshire, at 6- 30 p. m. on the 23rd instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Child, having a shift on, and wrapped in a piece of white muslin and a piece of an old winsey skirt. An inquest having been held on the 26th instant, the jury returned a verdict of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown. Suspicion is attached to an Irishwoman who was seen, on the 23rd instant, going on the way from Leeds to Birkenshaw with a bundle, and afterwards returning towards Leeds without it: [ she is between 65 and GO years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, smooth dark hair, and stoops a little when walking; had on an old brown dress, with a black border at bottom about 4 inches deep, green woollen plaid shawl, and an old- fashioned linen cap with single frill in front. Information to be given to Superintendent Airton, West Riding Constabulary, Dewabury.— How- street, July 28. KOBBERT AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of David Jones, in the stable at the Bald Inn, Llanfyllin, on the night of the 26th ultimo : a double case silver verge Watch, maker W. L. No. 204, white dial, with minute finger, a dent on back, near the key hole, a steel Chain attached, with a common Key, small Seal, with white stone in, letter ' E ' on, and an American Florin. Infor- mation to be given to P. C. Jones, Llanfyllin, or to Superinten- dent Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 2. Stolen from the person at Horsham Fair, on the 19th instant, an open- faced silver lever Watch, with white dial and seconds hand, a small piece broken from face at the figure VI. 10s. reward will be paid on recovery of the same. Stolen from the person at Horsham Fair, on the 24th inst., a double- bottomed silver open- faced lever Watch, No. 6642, maker James Reeves, Capel. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Horsham Railway Station, on the 26th instant, an old- fashioned pair- cased gold Watch, maker Burrard, Cornhill, London, armorial bearings and motto—' Silentio et Spe,' engraved on outside of case, and on inside, ' Robert Burnett Brander, the gift of an affectionate mother, 1826.' £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Stolen from the person of Mr. George English, between the 26th and 27> h instant, near the Mill Dam, South Shields: a gold Watch, No. 11095, an albert Chain, a diamond Ring, a silk Handkerchief, a Quadrant, makers Shipby and Brown, and £ 4: in Gold. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Police Court, South Shields, or to the officer on Duty, River Police Station, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from the person of a gentleman in Church- street, West Hartlepool, Durham: a gold Geneva Watch, makers Augne. Mrox. J. F. Stolen from the person of Thomas Harrison, while asleep in a field at Wargrave, Berks, on the evening of the 20th inst., a gold Geneva Watch, No. 40,226, gold Albert Chain, with Locket attached, containing Mr. Harrison's likeness.— Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Millard, Town- hall, Wokingham, Berks.— Bow- street, Julv 26. Stolen from the person of a man, while lying on the road leading from Hodnet to Shrewsbury, during the night of the 16th instant: a double cased silver verge Watch, No, 3766, maker Hulme, Cheadle. During the evening of the 31st ultimo, the house of Pryce Hughes, called Tyu- y- wern, near Llanfair, was broken into, and a new pair of strong watertight Boots, stolen therein, the heels of which are nailed with square heads, and the foreparts have tin under the nails at toes, not brass lace holes. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Officer Breeze, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire. — Bote- street, August 2. During the night of the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Dawson, of South Weald, was broken into, and the following articles stolen : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' D.;' an electro Teapot and Sugar Basin ; two dozen white- handled Knives ; a Carver and Fork, buckhorn handles; a silver Top of a pepper castor ; a silver Brooch ; a pair of silver- mounted Snuffers ; a red and white Smelling Bottle; a grey woollen wrap Shawl, large size ; a green silk Parasol ; a striped ditto ; a blue cloth shooting Coat, pockets in sides; a grey cloth Overcoat, raised seams ; a silk Hat, makers Saxty, Troubridge, an oak Knife- box; and a number of old copper and silver Coins. Information to be given at the Police Station, Brent _ wood, Eesex.— Bow street, August 2. Stolen during the afternoon of the 30th ultimo, from the cottage of William Kirby, near the town of Abingdon, £ 18 in gold and a very large silver Watch, maker Payne, A bingdon, No. 3003, a gilt rim round the dial, engraved : ' Keep me clean and use me well, and I to yo\ j the truth will tellalso a silver Guard attached with a French silver Coin and silver albert Key. A man of the following deseription was seen loitering about the place, and is suspected of breaking into the cottage : about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small dark whiskers ; dressed in a shabby brown cloth coat, rather long, light trousers, and high- crowned black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon.— Bow- street, August 2. During the night of the 23rd instant the dwelling- house of the Rev. W. J. S. Orde, of Weston, Herts, was broken into, and the following property stolen : two small silver Rings with the following inscription : ' W. J. Shafto Orde, a gift from Geo. Selby,' and Crest, a stag's head: five Tea Spoons ( one silver and four plated) ; four electro plated forks. Also during the night of the 24th instant the dwelling- house of the Rev. F. Sullivan, of Kimpton Vicarage, Herts, was broken into and the following property stolen : five silver Tea Spoons with crest, cock Robin ; two silver Skewers, a silver Pocket Communion set, in case ; four Pocket Knives, one with plate on handle with ' W. Sullivan ' engraved on it ; a Seal, Antipater's foot, engraved, ' Kimpton Vicarage ;' a Ship's Chro- nometer, in case, made by Litherland and Davis, Liverpool ; an aneroid Barometer, in case, by Cary ; a lady's Work Bag, putple clotb, with gilt mouth and catch, containing a gold and a silver Thimble ; a set of silver filigree Ninepins, one in a silver filigree Box ; a small drawer out of a Davenport. Information to be given to Inspector Reynolds, Stevenage, Herts.— Bow- st., July 30. During the night of the 24th instant, St. Edmnnd's College, Old Hall Green, near Ware, Herts, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : 14 small silver Forks, maked with a + ; 20 small tea Spoon9, various patterns, some marked with a - f, and some ' St. Edmund's College ;' 8 metal tea Spoons ; 1 pair of old sugar Tongs ; 1 silver salt Spoon, marked ' St. Edmund's College ;' 1 French Clock, hinge and glass broken ; 1 American Barometer, with two hands in the front, imitating a small clock ; 2 large brass Candlesticks ; and two brass Shields for candlesticks. Sup- posed by two men, one about 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, and the other about 5 feet 7 inches high, dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Inspector Bygrave, Ware.— Bow- street, July 30. During the night of the 20th instant, the school- house at Trumpington, near Cambridge, occupied by Mr. Hutt, was entered, and the following articles stolen : two pairs of elastic side Boots, man's size, both pairs have been recently soled ; a pair with fancy toe caps, and new straps behind ; about 1 lb. of Tea ; a small quantity of Bread ; 2s. in Coppers ; and a flannel Jersey. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chesterton, Cambridge.— Bow- street, July 28. During the night of the 24th instant, Cumberland House, Southsea, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : 12 Table Forks, 11 Spoons, 12 Dessert ditto, 9 Forks, 9 Tea Spoons, 2 Salts, 1 pair Sugar Tongs, 1 Soup Ladle, 1 Sauce ditto, and 1 Gravy Spoon, all electro- plated, with crest— a griffin's head, and maker's mark at back, ' I. E.' and Co.' in old English, and ' E. E. and Co.,' with crown over. 1 set of 6 electro- plated Egg Cruets, with Spoons. 4 round electro- plated Salvers, one 18 inches in diameter, the others different sizes below, forming a set, engine turned ioside, with small round in centre for crest, stands on legs. 1 silver Mug, holding about a gill, marked ' J. C. G„ New Year's Day.' 1 silver whip Handle, crest— a griffin's head, ' Major Gardner, Royal Marine Artillery,' engraved on it. 1 dark woollen cloth Coat. 1 pair of black and white small check pegtop Trousers. 1 pewter pint Mug, with cover, ' Alan Campbell Ainslie ' engraved on it, also a representation of billiard cues and balls. 1 pair of slate- coloured pegtop Trousers and Vest. 1 piping Bullfinch. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, upon application to Chief Superinten- dent Barber, Portsmouth.— Bcw- etreet, July 28. Between 11 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 23rd instant a cottage was entered at Burston and an old- fashioned silver Watch with brass Guard and small white Shell attached, and ten Shillings stolen therein. Supposed by a man of the following description : about 30 years ot age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in a dark rough jacket, over a dirty white slop, cord trousers, large at the bottom, and a dark cap with peak, and had the appearance of a stoker. Information to be given to Superintendent Hollington, Godstone, Surrey.— Bow- street, July 26. Between 2 and 7* 30 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the house occupied by Mrs. Wallace, at Hampton, near Evesham, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; six Sovereigns ; twelve large Forks, twelve small ditto, eight Table Spoons, a gravy ditto, foor Dessert ditto, five Tea ditto, two Salt ditto, a Cream Jug, a Sugar Ladle, a pair of Sugar Tongs, and a Meat Skewer, all silver, and marked ' W. ,' four gold Brooches; two hair Bracelets ; three pairs of gold Eyeglasses ; and a gold Watch Chain. £ 10 reward, or a reward in proportion to the amount recovere 1 will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation to Superintendent Harris, Petshore, W rcestershire, as will lead to the recovery of the property and convfction of the offenders.— Bow- street, July 26. SORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of the 27th ultimo, from a meadow at Westerham, a black nag Mare, 14 hands high, aged, white star in forehead, two small white spots on near shoulder, near foreleg slightly blistered, switch tail, and rather lop- eared. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Sevenoaks. — Bow- street, August 2. Found in the possession of a tramp, who is remanded till the 2nd instant, on suspicion of having stolen the same : a brown horse Pony, about 8 years old, 14£ hands high, black legs, long tail and mane, and in good condition. The man gives the name of WILLIAM HENDERSON, of No. 25, North- street, Manchester ; he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, blue eyes; dressed in a blue cloth monkey jacket and brown mixture trousers; has been to sea. On him was found a letter, directed to ' T. D. Langworth, Esq.. 28, Queen- street, Brampton- road, London, England,' from Wm. Giles, dated 4th July, 1869, Guernsey, St. Sampson. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman Cross, Peterborough.— Bow- sli cet, August 2. Stolen from Cranham Wood, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, on the night of the 28th ult., the property of Mr. Ritchings, a black nag Mare, 7 years old, about 14 hands high, tail cat square, one hind foot white and has a small lump on off fere leg just above the fetlock joint, caused by the near shoe when trotting. Information to be given to Superintendent Han- bridge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Botc- strtel, August 2. Stolen from a field in the parish of Cobham, Surrey, on the morning of the 1st instant, a bay Mare, 16 hands high, black legs, mane, and tail, with a few white spots on forehead, the property of Daniel Dallen, miller. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, August 2. Stolen from a field at Wolstow Heath, on the night of the 26th instant, two Horses of the following description : one a dark brown cart, white star on forehead, aged ; one a bay cart, 6 years old, white legs, and white blaze down forehead. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Wild, Warwickshire Constabulary, Ru^ by.— Bow- street. July 30. Stolen on the 26th instant, from a field in the parish of Frankley. Worcestershire, u rusty iron- grey Horse, 4 years old, about 14$ liauds high, saddle mark down all one side. A reward ot £ 5 will be paid by Mr. George White, of Frankley, upon conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to he given to the Superintendent of Police, Halesowen, near Birmingham.— Bow- strcet, July 30. Description of a man who gave the name of HENRY DURRANT, ' 31, Feller street, North Pearson- street, Kings land- road, Haggerston, London, committed on the 27th instant to take his trial at the next general quarter sessions to be holden at Hertford, charged with stealing from a field in Ware, a cart Horse and Headstall ( recovered): states he is a plasterer by trade, 26 years of age, 6 feet 6$ inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair and whiskers, and hazel eyes ; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, light fustian trousers, old military shoes, ' 103rd Regiment, No. 3815.' Supposed to have committed offences elsewhere. Information to be given to Inspector Bygrave, Ware.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen from Whitley Common, near Coventry, on the 16th instant, a dark brown cob Pony, 6 years ( old, 14 hands high, white near hind fetlock, hair worn off the crest by saddle, and off the shoulder by collar, has been recently heel clipped, 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. - August 2. has ' I. J.' on one fore foot, and two figures on the other, and bang tail. Information to be given to Inspector Gallaway, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, July 2( 3. On tho 20th instant, a young man about 18 or 20 years of age, dressed in short black coat, and straw hat, sold a horse of the following description, in the parish of Christchurch, which is strongly suspected he had stolen, as on receiving a part of the money he absconded, and has not since applied tor the balance : a half bred chesnut Horse, aged, in good condition, about 14$ hands high, white star in forehead, one hind leg white up to the hock, the other white to the fetlock, flaxen mane and tail. Information to be given to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary Station, Newport.— Bow- street, July 28. He is about 28 years of aae, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair and whiskers, no moustache ; ureseed in blue guernsey frock, fitting tight, rtund the waist, blue pilot cloth trou6erB, and black billycock hat Supposed to have left Southampton in a small coasting vessel bound to the north, on the 28th ultimo. Inform ition to be g ven to Superintendent Hurst, Police Station. Poole, Dorset, who holds a waxrant for his apprehension.— Bow- strict, Auqint 2. Absconied oa the 20th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing from the dwelling- house of Thomas Mealey, No. 91, Long- lane, Smithfield, London, EC, a gold Watch and a gobi Albert Chain ( recovered) : GEORGE CARR, the potman. 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 on 0 inches high, brown hair ; dressed in black coat, vest, trousers, and billycock hat ; has been several times convicted, and has recently come out of a refor matorv. He was last heard of in the reighbourhood of Luton, Bedfordshire, accompanied by hi3 brother- in- law, Henry Wallis ; they are hawking crockery ware, ornaments, & a, about the country. Absconded on the 2f! th ultimo, from Osborne House, Dagnall Park, Croydon, stealing a gold Geneva Watch, No. 08?, maker Le Carte ; a large gold- cbased Locket, monogram ' MCG a long gold Neck Chain, pillar pattern. A woman, 38 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches hi^ h, xuddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, flat nose, li « ht cotton dress, black shawl, a jacket, and a green silk bonnet ; supposed to be in the neigh- bourhood of Brick- lane. Spitalfields, has been in the Elizabeth Fry and Dudley- street Refuges.— Metropolitan Police, W Divi- sion, August 2. Stolen from on board the schooner ' Woodlark,' of Grimsby, while lying at ihe Mill Daw Pier, River Tyne, the sum of £ 11 10s. in Gold, in a small leather plStse with a button on, the property of Captain William Hunter, by one of the crew, who has absconded. He is about 25 years of 8ge, fair com- plexion, giDger whiskers, and has a wooden teg ( right) ; was dressed iii white duck trousers, blue flannel shirt, scarf hand- kerchief, and white wide ; i- wake hat. Information to be given to the officer on duty at the River Police Statiop, South Shields, Durham.— Bo*- sirett, August 2. Absconded from Blackburn on the 25th May last, charged with stealiog and taking away with him £ 460 the property of his employer : a managing clerk in a solicitor's office, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, and lar* e whiskers worn round the face and chin, stout and broad across the shoulders, good looking, usually wore a black surtout coat, dark vest and trousers, and black hat, ia very likely to he found amongst betting men. £ 20 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Description of JAMES BAUGHAN, a law clerk, charged with stealing a black Coat, a V.- st, a pair of black Trousers, a pair of Sheet, two silk Handkerchiefs, a Hat, a black leather travelling Bag, and a buff Vest, ou the 29th ultimo, at Eostone. in the county oi Oxford : he is about 35 years of age, 6 feet 1C inches high; dressed in black coat and vest, lit; li trousers, and deerstalker hat; he has lodged in St. George's- Toad, Blundell street, Caledonian- roid, London. The black coat, vest, and trousers have > een recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Lakin, Police Station, Chipping Norton, Os. on, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— — Bow- street, August 2. Absconded from the Ipswich Union Workhouse on the 26th instant, a tramp, about 60 yeirs of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, bald head, monkey features, and small thin whiskers, stealing a suit of Clothes, the property of an inmate, viz. : a light cloth Overcoat, sinele- breasted, lined with red and black plaid ; a single breasted black cloth Vest, a pair of brown cloth Trousers, a calico Sheet, a pair of white Socks with red stripes, a pair of canvss side- spring Shoes, which have been blacked over; a white Check- Scarf, aud a cbecte- cutter Cap. Ue is very much scared from disease. He is supposed to be weaiing the above articles, as he left his own clothing b. hind. Information to be giveL to Head Constable Mason, Town Hall, Ipswich.— Bow- street, July 30. Description of JAMES METCALF, alias FATTY, charged with stealing a £•> Bank ot England Note, at Gains- borough, on the 26th instaut, the property of John Beet, which was changed the same day : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, large full face, light complexion, brown hair, cut short, no whiskers ; dressed in light cloth trousers and waistcoat, white duck jacket, grey woollen shirt, and soft black billycock hat ; he will visit, low public- houses, and sometimes works in oil mills. Information to be given to Superintendent, Jarvis, Police Station, Gainsborough, Lincoln- shire, wh « holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- s'rcet, July 30. Absconded from Houghton- le- Spring, on the 23rd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £' 13s., the monies of Thomas Edward Lake: WILLIAM FARRAS, about 25 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, salloiv complexion, broad features, niee very broad and turns up at end, pockpitted, has a flesh mark on the left arm, and a small dot above it, blue eyes, heavy ( eyebrows, dark brown hair, sandy coloured whiskers and moustache, very stout made, aud rather bow- legged, is a native of Littledean, Gloucestershire, and a coalminer ; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, both partly worn, light blue cloth trousers, and a dark clotn cip, tied in front wirh black ribbon. Information to be eiven to Superintendent Thompson, Houghtou- le Spring, via Fence Houses, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- sheet, July 30. Absconded on the 23rd infant, charge! on a warrant signed by the Lord Mayor, v. filr stealing- a bflt of Exchange for £ 1,000 : CLEMENT HARWOOD, alias CHARLES HOPE CHALMERS, a clerk, late of No. 33, Abchurch- lane, City, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, faircoin- plexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, inclined to be sandy, walks with a peculiar gait, as though accustomed to horse riding, turns his toes outwards ; accompanied by John Uatcher. 26 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, slender build, long neck, fair complexion, red hair, small whiskers; and his wife, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair com- plexion, blue eyes, brown hair, fine teeth, stout and good looking, had with them three brown leather Portmanteaus, and a large amount of French Money. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the said Clement Harwood.
