FOLIC GAZETTE. CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the ( iffence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of < hose who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other mar lis of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the nam ie given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of Ihe offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail Letters addressed to the Editor moat be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. During the night of the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of tbe Rev. George Rashleigh, in the parish of Horton Kirby, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : a silver Sugar Sifter, a silver Tea Spoon, ciesi— oak leal; a quantity of ancient silver Coins, consisting of Crowns, Half crowns, Shil- lings, and Sixpences ; small Coins of the reigns of Ctiailes 1st and 2nd, James 2ud, William and Mary, William 3rd, Anue, George 1st, 2nd, 3id, and 4ih, and William the 4ib ; also a quantity of copper and brass Medals, supposed by two men of the following description : one is about 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high ; the otb> r is about 6 leet 6 or 7 inches high ; both dre> sed iu dark clothes aud clotb caps with brass buttons at sides. They arrived at Farringdon- road Station at 10 p. m., from Blackfriars- bridge Station, with tickets for Rochester- bridge. Description of JAMES BROOKS, a retorned convict, charged with horse stealing at Wirksworth on the night of the 11th- instant ( n- covered) : he is 33 years of ege, 6 feet 4 inches high, blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, lost one upper front tomh, ' J. B.' or ' H.' and a tree on one of bis arms, and dretjed iu an old blue monkey jacket, old dark trousers, and soft black billycock hat. Obtained under pretence of requiiing it for an hour's ride, from Mr. George Wattson's livery yard at Ramsgate, on the 11th instant, hy a m-. n of fair complexion, from 20 to 22 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in grey suit: a dark- brown well- bred cob Mate. I4j hands high, Roman nose, aud fast in her paces. Absconded on the 9th instant, from No. 104, Harvey- street, stealing a Suit of blue Livery, with yellow cord, gilt buttons, crest— a bird ; and a Suit of undress ditto : a footman, 19 years of age, 6 feet inches high, da. k complexion, hair, eyes, and moustache, BUllen appearance, aud supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothes. Stolen on the 11th inetant. the property of Mrs. Coates, a black velvet Jacket, which is supposed to be pledged in Brigh- ton, and an old open faced silver Geneva Watch, case much worn and supposed to have the name of' Coates' scratched on it; a short Guard with two Lockets and a small Bone Hand attached, one of the lockets open tor photograph, and the other a small round one : by a m n and woman, the man. a tailor, from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 teet 2 inches bSgh, very slight, light complexion and whiskers, mostly on the chin, Tather bow legged ; dressed in a black coat, black billycock hat, and daik speckled trousers ; the woman about the same age, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, rather full face dark complexion ; dressed in black jacket, brown dress with bl. ck stripes, black hat with large green feather, three rings on fingers, slept in Brighton on the night of the 13; h instant, and left the next morning, having the vra'ch in their possession. Absconded on the 13th instant, from No. 1, Ann's- cottage, Forest- hill, stealing £ 4 10s.: a boy, 16 years ot age, 4 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, and dressed in black coat and vest, cord trousers, and black cap.— Metropolitan Police, P Di- vision, July 19. Absconded from St. Leonard's- on- Sea, Sussex, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing several pairs ot Boots ( larceny as a bailee).: JAMES WILKINSON. alias NORTON, a shoe- maker, about 28 years of age, 6 feet. 10 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair and moustache, whiskers supposed shaved off, large nose, walks erecr, has been in ihe Army, and is branded with 4 D.;' dressed in a black coat, grey trousers, and black billycock hat, he formerly resided at Lee. near Lewishsm, Kent; a w. rrant has been issued for his apprehension Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Gleniater, Hastings, — Bow- street, July 19. Absconded from Shrewsbury on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing a Watch (.-. ince recovered) at Cressage, in the county of Salop, and for whose apprehension a warrant is issued: THOMAS MAY, a tramping watch and clockuiaker about 29 years of age, 5 teet 7 or 0 inches high, dark hair aud complexion, Bmall tult of hair on chin, dirty appeara ce, has a slight impediment iu his speech ; dressed in dark clothes, and wore a billycock hat Information to be given to Super- intendent Caswell, Chief Constable's Office, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, Juli/ 16. Further information respecting the larceny at the lodging- house at Uppingham, on the 11th, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th instant : the man charged is named FRANCIS KIRBY. a native of Seainford, a labourer, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers or beard ; he was convicted at the Gainsborough Petty Sessions, and com- mitted to Kirton Lindsay for one month's hard labour. Infor- mation to be given to Iuspedor Harrison, Police Station, Uppingham, Rutlandshire, who holds a warrant ior his appre- hension— Bow- street, July 16. Absconded on the 30 h ultimo, from No. 133, High- street, Whitechapel, stealing £ 240 in Gold. Silver; and Bank Notes : GEORGE CRAIKE a groom, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuches high, sallow Complexion, dark hair, high cheek bones, thin, and rather sullen ; dressed in dark clothes, and high black hat; supposed at Liverpool, intending ' o go to America. Absconded on the 11th instant, from No. 62, Dacre- street, Lee, stealing a biaek cloih Coat, pockets on hips, a pair of dark tweed Trousers, stripe down Bides, £ 1 6s. 6a. in Silver : a painter, 23 years of age, 6 teet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, eyes, and moustache, no whiskers, and dressed in black cloth " coat, white vest.. light cord trousers, black velvet hat.— Metropolitan Police, R Division July 16. Absconded on the 12th instant from No. 5, Dover- street, Piccadilly, embezzling several sum9 of money: a porter, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, high cheek bones, and dressed in dark coat, grey trousers, wround billycock hat. Supposed to have gone to Newbury, here he had formerly been' employed.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 16. By a tramping cooper, au Irishman, who had been working fir Mr. Roberts ten days : Iw is about ! i0 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair beard on chia i nclined to auburn, and has a remarkably loud, clear voice; dratted in cord trousers, blae k vest, dark cap wi, h a brass bution on each side, light hlucher boots, and new check shirt ; he left, without a coat. A male child, aged about three months, was found deserted on the 8th instant, about half past five o'clock in the morning, in a basket in the ou- house of a cottage in the occupation of Wallis Shaw, 3, Bromford- cottages, near Erdington. The child was wrapped in an old dark tweed jacket, and had on a white nightgown, with insertion at waist, flannel band, lawn shirt, with edging round the aim holes, under flannel bound with silk and worked with feather stitch ( shirt and flannel no doubt the gift of a lady), the head flannel made of four pieces joined together, white woollen socks, with scarlet feet, two calico Napkins ( one made out of a damask table cloth).
