Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. • OTEDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Further information respecting the dead body of a youth unknown, found in a reservoir at Blackburn, on the 25th ult., and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant: the body has been identified as that of John Shakeshaft, 17 years of age, son of John Shakeshaft, beerseller, Rosehill, Higher Audley- street, Blackburn. The deceased left home on the 24th of October last, was seen in the township of Mellor, Lancashire, next day, and was also seen in Blackburn about two weeks afterwards, but not heard of since until the body was found. It is suspected that he came to his death by violence. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 12. Absconded from Sunderland, charged on a warrant with the wilful murder of Maria Fitzsimmons. on the 20th February last, P. man named THOMAS FUREY, aliaa WRIGHT, alias GATHNEY. alias THE COPPER, or JACK THE SAILOR, about 25 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark auburn hair, ginger- coloured whiskers, very bushy at chin, and moustache, tresh complexion, full face, has good shoulders, but is very slender downwards, is a native of Loudon, and of no particular trade, but occasionally goes to sea ; dressed in a dark cap with peak, old blue faded single- breasted overcoat, fly front and velvet collar, torn at back with hanging it up, white slop, blue shirt, old dirty moleskin trousers, and very bad boots. He will probably make for some seaport. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction. On the 7th instant, at Eton, Bucks, REGINALD TEMPLE STRANGE CLARE GRANVILLE MURRAY forged a Cheque on tbe Bank of York, purporting to be the cheque of Sir Edward Sherlock Gooch, Baronet, with intent to defraud one Robert Tolladay, boat builder, Eton, Bucks. Murray is about 27 or 28 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, full face, fresh colour, dark curly hair, small whiskers and rather red moustache, of gentlemanly appearance and address; dress, dark blue and light overcoat. Gave his card as ' Sir Edward Sherlock Gooch, Bart., Benacre Hall, Wrentham.' Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, BuckB, or to Inspector Pearman, Eton College, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 14. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery, GEORGE RICHARD SMITH, late of No. 41, Whiskin- street, St. John- street- road, clerk, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and eyes, slight build, small dark moustache, light straggling whiskers, sallow complexion, and mole on the cheek. SLOBBERY AMD LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Station, Bolton, about 910 p. m. on the 9th instant, a gold lever Watch, No. 4146. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, Btout make, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, black cloth trousers and vest, and black silk hat. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, on application to Chief Constable Beech, Borough Police Office, Bolton- le Moors, Lancashire.— Bow- st,, May 17 Stolen from the person of Thos. Gwilt, on the 23rd ult, a patent lever silver Watch, No. 56443, gold figures, and steel Chain. Information to be given to Head Constable Cole, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen from the person of Jane Croft, at Cleethorpes, on the 10th instant, a brown leather Purse, containing £ 10 in Gold and 2s. 6d. in Silver. By two men of the following description : one 27 or 28 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair cut very short, very email whiskers, full face, thick neck, bas a very peculiar caBt or mark in right eye, and walks rather quickly ; dressed in a black cloth coat, and carries a short drab loose overcoat when not wearing it, black felt high- crowned hat, blucher boots, blue tie, and paper collar ; states he is a gasfitter. The other, 28 or 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, light hair cut short, moustache, and beard ; dressed in a black cloth coat, soft black hat with stiff brim, and sometimes carries the above overcoat. May be accompanied by two women: one very tall and stout, very much pockpitted, goes by the name of Mary, and says her husband is dead ; the other is smaller, very dark, is called Elizabeth, and is supposed to be the second man's wife ; both dressed in brown winsey dreBses, one lighter than the other, black cloth jackets or paisley shawls, and hats and feathers. They have lodged two months in Dagger- lane, Hull, aud left there about a fortnight ago ; they frequent sales, railway stations, and low public houses. Stolen from the person at Holtye Races, in the parish of Hartfield, Sussex, on the 10th instant: a silver lever Watch, maker John Fowle, East Grinstead, capped, and has ' Henry Comber,' engraved on the works. Stolen from the person at Cullompton, Devon, on the morning of the 6th instant: a silver double bottom consolar English lever Watch, No. 10113, maker G. Linton, Exeter; a plain gold albert Chain ; a gold album Locket, the frame and glass of the right side missing, a corner of the locket doubled down, contains the Portrait of a young female, the property of Isaac Hookings, Clyst St. Lawrence. Information to be given to Superiutendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Cullompton. — Bow- street, May 10. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant from the person of Thoman Toban, of Jarrow, about £ 13 in Gold, and a dark leather Purse with broken clasp. By a man whose name is supposed to be FRANCIS MALEY, who had been drinking in a public- hou6e with Toban the same afternoon, and absconded immediately after the robbery was committed. He is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, long visage, whiskers shaved off, feminine voice and appearance, dark brown hair, worn long, parted in the middle, and worn like that of a female, slender figure, supposed a native of Dublin, but is well known at Newcastle, Shields, Jarrow, West Hartlepool, and other towns in the North of England, frequents low public- houses and beer- houses, where he uances and sings ; sometimes dresses in dirty highland costume, velvet cap, with a feather in it, and at other times in black cloth square- lapped coat, no vest, dark tweed trousers, supposed to be in the latter dress when he absconded. Information to be given to Superintendent Salter, Jarrow- on- Tyne.— Bow- st, May 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSS BREAKING, On the night of the 12th instant the Vicarage House at Hartpuny, the residence of the Rev. W. G. S. Addison was attempted to be broken into by raising the drawing- room win- dow, by two men, who were disturbed by tbe police, and made their escape ; they are of the following description : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, middle size, rather thin features, small light whiskers ; dressed in a high crowned hat, old brown frock coat, and dark trousers ; the other is about 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, stout built, full features, small light sandy whiskers, and tuft on chin ; dressed in a soft low hat, dark monkey jacket, dark trousers, and wore across his waistcoat a gilt or gold albert cbain, with a locket attached in the shape of a book ; he carried an overcoat on his arm, lined with plaid, and had a small parcel with him, fastened round with a leather strap. They lett near the pre- mises a new patent bit, and they are supposed to be the same men who have committed burglaries at Stoke, Edith, North- ampton, Winslow, and Abingdon. On the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Kemp, Shipbourne, Kent, was broken into, and the following articles st ' herein : two blue Shirts ; a calico Sheet; a cotton SI a pair of man's lace up Boots ; a black handled Razor ; a » et Knife ; and a clothes Brush. Information to be gi to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent. — bystreet, May 17. Stolen on the night of the 14th instant, from the shop window of Mr. Wm. Enock, jeweller, Smith- street, Warwick, the following Watches, & c. : 1 silver consular Lever, maker Enock, Smith- street, No. 6925. 1 ditto ditto, large size, flush seconds, same maker, No. 1368. 1 6ilver consular Geneva, large size, maker Baume, No. 61944. 1 large second- hand Geneva, silver dial discoloured, shield and garter on back of case. 2 small Geneva's. oz. of gold Wedding Rings. A number; of gold Keepers, one extra large size, 18- carat gold. 1 gold cameo Pin, a crack above the head ( female's). 1 gold Pit), with a bar across tarnished. A reward will be paid on the recovery of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, May 17. During the night of the 14th instant the dwelling- house of the Rev. William Barrett, of Saintbury, was broken into and the following property stolen therein : two silver Tea Spoons and a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' A. D. W.' ; two silver Thimbles, a silver Geneva Watch, a pocket Spirit Flask covered with brown leather ; Cigar Case, Meerschaum Pipe and Cigar Holder, Musical Box in walnut wood case, about 12 inches by 6 inches ; two Snuff Boxes, one a rouud black papier- mache, the picture of an old gentleman with long beard painted on the lid, the other waluut wood oblong shape with goldtcrest demi unicorn rampant on the lid ; and a black felt billycock Hat. Supposed by t^ p men who were seen about the village the same evening ; one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, walks awkward on his feet ; dressed in dark clothes; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, and wore a gold or gilt albert chain, and carried a small box or parcel under his arm. They are supposed to be the same men advertised in the Police Gszette of the 19th ult. and the 10th instaut, under the heading of burglary in the counties of Bucks, Northampton, and Berks. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Monk, Campden, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, May 17. Between 6 a. m. and 8 p. m. on the 11th instant, the house of Mr. Thomas Creasy, gamekeeper, Felbridge, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black pilot Jacket, pockets outside, red and black lining ; a pair of men's black worsted cord Trousers; a pair of boy's ditto and Waistcoat, dark ; a black and red plaid silk Neckerchief; a ditto cotton, white with red Bpots ; a pair of white cotton Stockings ; and a silver Thimble. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Hollington, Police Station, Godstone, Surrey. — Bow- slrect, May 14. Between 9 a m. and 5 p. m. on the 10th instant, the cottage of Joseph Garland, labourer, of the parish of Middleton, was broken into, and stolen therein : two black cloth Jackets; a pair of grey mixture Trousers ; a Waistcoat, same colour ; a black Cloak, trimmed with crape ; a pair of blucher Boots, new ; a'silver watch Cbain; and £ 1 in silver Money. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Boulter, Coleshill, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, May 14. Charged with breaking into a cottage on the 12th instant and stealing wearing apparel, a woman, about 27 years of age, short and thin ; dressed in a dirty white straw bonnet, sup- posed dark shawl, an old long gown, and white apron, is of rather dirty appearance, and said her name was JONES, and that she came from Llynclys. The property stolen has been recovered pledged iu Oswestry, with the exception of a Blanket. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, May 14. Further information respecting property stolen from th Adderley Railway Station, Great Western Railway, near Market Drayton, during the night of the 6th instant, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant : a light brown melton Coit, with raised seams, lined with alpaca, slightly worn through inside lett cuff; £ 1 19s. 74d. in Silver and Copper ; twenty seven Postage Staui) s, ' G. W. R.' prieked in them ; a new Carpet- bag, i f various colours, chiefly red and green ; a new black and white mohair Dress, very narrow stripe, black and white cord trimming on shoulders and cuffs, black and white buttons down front ; a mauve and white Dress, nearly new, black bugle trimmings, aud black buttons down front; two Petticoats, corded rouud the bottom, one new, the other part worn ; a plain white Petticoat, nearly new, needlework round bottom, marked ' E. M.' in red cotton ; a pair of new elastic- side Boots, with flourished fronts ; a new braided calico Nightgown, maiked ' E. M,' in ink ; two pairs of cotton Stockings, a Chemise, a pair of Drawers, a white Bodice, and five cotton Handkerehiels, all marked ' E. Between 10 30 p. m. on the 7th aud 5 a. m. on the 8th instant, the workshop of Mr. Frederick Willet, tailor and draper, of Ansty, in tlie county of Leicester, was feloniously entered, and the following articles siolen therein : a light tweed Waistcoat, stripe down, roll collar ; a huff mixture tweed ditto, with collar; a pair of fancy light Bedford cord Trousers, tall fronts ; a boy's Jacket, braided, small outaide pockets ; three pieces of Tweed ( 2| yards each), one dark stripe with silver spots, one dark brown stripe with light spots, the other dark grey stripe ; a pair of Trousers, double stripe ot chocolate, fall fronts ; a pair of boy's dark mixture ditto, black stripe down the side ; a pair of second- kand brown check ditto, fly fronts ; a p iir of small Scissors ; a pair of large ditto, marked ' John Wilton.' Information to be given to Superin- tendent Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Leicester. Bow street, Man 10. During the night of the C. h instant, the dwelling- house of the Revd. J. C. Clutterbuck, of Long Wittenham, Berks, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a large silver Inkstand, with sockets for two Glasses aud a small Candlestick in centre, engraved on it • li. and T. M. Benyon, as a Gift to the Revd. J. C. Clutterbuck ;' Communion Plate, a Paten with ' Long Wittenham' on it, the Cup with the name of ' Edwards' in Latin on it, as giving it to Long Wittenham ; a 5s. Piece of George III, quite new ; a half Guinea of George II; two old gold Coins of about the time of Edward VI; sundry silver Coins, many of them Venetian ; a silver Prussian Coin, " the size of half a Crown ; a small silver Box, the size round of a florin, with a coronet and ' H. C.' on it; a bunch of Seals, Oue an old go! d Seal with ' J. C.' on it, one a small white cornelian Seal, with the imprecise of u buck on it, one an Earl's old gold Seal; and about- 10s. in silver money. Supposed by two men of the following description, who were seen about the village the same evening : one about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, thin face, and dark whiskers ; dressed iu a long brown coat, dark trousers, wore a large yellow wrapper round his neck, round hat, and walked a little lame. The other about 28 y ears of age, 5 teet 6 inches high, brown curly hair, slight moustache, tuft of light hair on chin, and supposed to be pockpitted; dressed in a long givy coat, dark trousers, and round hat; both of genteel shabby appearance. They are supposed to be the same men who were advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th ultimo, as having committed burglaries at Floor, Northampton, and Winslow, Bucks. Information to be given to Superintendent Helger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon.— Bow- street, May 10. Between 11 p m. on the 7th and 11 a. m. on the 8th inst., the dw. lling- house of Mr. John Robinson, surgeon, Iiyburn House, Soyland, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a dark blue pilot cloth dress Coat, with two pockets outside the hips, newly I » und with broad braid, except the cuffs, which have old braid on, black. covered buttons, the property of Charles Moorhouse, assistant surgeon. Information to be given at the West Riding Constabulary Office, Halifax.— Bow- street, May 10. Between 10 p. m. the 7th, and 0 a. m. the 8th nstant, the dwelling house ot Thomas Bedford, book- keeper, Shaw Hill, in the township of Sowerby, was broken into and eutered by breaking a pane of glass, and unfastening a window sash, ami the following property stolen therein : six silver plated tea Spoons, marked ' W.' in old English ; a square rosewood tea Caddy, with brass handle at the top, containing 1 lb. of Tea ; a pair cf lace- up watertight Buots, with brass eyelet holes and goloshed ; a black and white plaid scarf Shawl, nearly new ; and a pair ot old silver plated sugar Tongs. Information to be given at the West Riding Constabulary Office, Halifax, York- shire.— Bow- street, May 10. cut, collar marks round the shoulders, the property of George Hart, farmer. North Weald, Bassett. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping.— Bow- st., May 14. Supposed to have been stolen by gipsies, from a field at Bilston, on the 28th ultimo, a brown Mare, about 14 hands high, white face, hind foot white, and a white mark on each shoulder, and iB within a few weeks of foaling. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCrea, Constabulary Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 14. Stolen since the 9th instant, from Panty- gwyder Farm, near Swansea, a light strawberry Cob, 5 years old and 13 hands high ; also a yearling entire Colt, light bay with white star in the face Information to be given to Head Constable Allison, Borough Police Station, Swansea.— Bow- street, May 14. Supposed to have been stolen from the roadside in the borough of Evesham, on the night ot the 6th instant, the pro- perty of William Blanch, an aged brown mare Pony, about 11 or 12 hands high, blind in left eye, ' W.' branded on left shoulder, long tail, two white saddle marks, mane turns on tbe wrong side, and in good working condition. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, or to Inspector Maun, Police Station, Evesham, Worcestershiie— Bow- street, May 14. Further information respecting tbe Horse stolen at Farnham ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the iOth instant): £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. George McDonald on its recovery and conviction of the offender or offenders. A man of the following description had four old shoes put on the Horse at Great Bookham, at 7 a m. on the 7th instant, and was afterwards traced near Epsom Downs ; he is 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, and pale complexion ; dressed in a dark jacket, worsted cord trousers fitting tight to the legs, wrapper with red spots tied loosely round his neck, rather u high black felt hat, had the appear- ance of a gipsy horse dealer, and carried an ash- twisted stick with a ferrule at the end. Information to be given to Super- intendent Newiand, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham.— Bow- st., May 14. Stolen on the 8th instant, from outside No. 5, Dalston- place, Hackney ; a Horse and Phaeton, horse grey, 13 bands high, aged, knee clipped, mark of blister uuder mane ; phaeton chocolate colour, picked out with vermillion, turn over seat behind ; two Mats ; two Rugs; aDd a Pedal of a velocipede, i By a man, 25 years of age, fair comdlexion ; dressed in grey mix? ure coat, light grey trousers, and black billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 12. Found at Wellington, Salop, on the 29th ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen, a bay cob Mare, aged, about 14 bands high, white star on foreheal, white stripe down the face, off hind fetlock white, saddle maik on off side, shod all round, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Richardson, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, May 12, Stolen on the night of the 26th ultimo, from the stable of Thomas Wiswold, of Rampton, Notts, a bay Horse, aged, about 14£ hai. ds higb, white star on forehead, switch tail, rather thin white mark on one fore and one hind leg, caused by a cord having been tied round them. Found at Colemere, Salop, on the 13th instant, and sup- posed to have been stolen, a bay cob Mare, about 12 handB high, white itar on forehead, shod all round, iu good condition, and lame in knee of near fore leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Thomas, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop.— Bow- st., May 17.
