Notiee.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Sli& sialure of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in tbe I'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to tbe Editor mnit be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Amy, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Further description of the man supposed to have murdered the girl Maria Fitzsimmons, at Sunderland, on the 20th ult.: he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, whiskers shav- d off upper part of face, rather more than half- way down, leaving a brown bushy tuft on chin, inclined to ginger, with a small portion shaved off under lip, stout face, broad nose a little turned up, supposed to have a puncture mark on the left temple, near eye, rather fresh complexion, £ 100 reward t. i any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lend to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said Martha Hillas, and will advise the grant of Her Mnjesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being tbe actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the like result. Description of JOHN COOPER for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, charged with the murder of Peter Pearson and Sarah Ann Cooper, at Poplar, on the 7th instant. He is 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, florid complexion, browu hair, and whiskers round chin same colour, a mark over left eyebrow, lost thumb on tbe left hand ; dressed in ( supposed) black frock coat, light cloth trousers, blue cloth cap ( French peak). By trade an engineer. Information to be given to the Detective Police, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, February 12. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of THOMAS HUGHES, labourer, late of Ivington, near Leominster, who is charged with another man now in custody with highway robbery with violence, on the morning of the 21st ultimo, at Newtown, in the out parish of Leominster : he is about 18 years of age. 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, had when he left a little hair on his chin and upper lip ; dressed in dark ribbed tweed jacket, pepper and salt vest, dark grey trousers, and hard bowler hat, it is supposed he has gone to Birmingham. The body of a newly born child was found dead in a garden in Bootham, in the parish of Clifton, near York, about 7 a. m. on the 20th instant; it was wrapped in an old coarse holland apron, with two cotton patches in the right, corner ; at the inquest a verdict of wilful murder was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, Yorkshire.— Bow- streei, February 24. • On the 23rd ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born male Child was found deposited in an open grave, in the Wolver- hampton Cemetery, in a small deal box, with the name ' Harper Twelvetrees. Blacking,' on a paper pasted inside the lid, and a coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' ' « The body of a newly- born male child, quite naked, was found in a field in the parish of Llantamam, in the county of Monmouth, on the 28ih ultimo. A verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown has been returned at the coroner's inquest. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Usk or to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool.— How street Fbruary 15. About 9 p. m. on the 4th inst., Martha Hillas was wilfully murdered in tbe Hope and Anchor yard, Bank- street, Bradford, Manchester, or Sheffield. Information to lie given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street February 26. Between 5 and 6 p. m. on the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Mary Woodfield, Vicarage- walk, Walsall, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a gold lever Watch, not capped, makers Hurt and Wray, New- street, Birmingham ; a gold Chain, secret link, with a Cross attached ; a lady's gold Ring, set with twelve pearls and twelve turquoises ; and a pair of gold Ear- drops, harp pattern. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bou- strect, February 26. Description of a man charged with burglary, in Bolton, on the 20th instant, the property stolen has been recovered : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dirty appearance, sallow complexion, no whiskers, rather ! ong beard, proportionate make, hair nearly black, had on an old black cloth frock coat and dark cloth cap. Information to be giveu at the Borough Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 24. Between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 14th instant, the dwelling- house o Mr. Charles C. Hurst, of Burbage, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a double canvas Purse, containing £ 100, namely : £ 40 in Gold, a £ 10 Bank of England Note, a £ 10 Note, Pares' Leicestershire Banking Company, a £ 5 Bank of Eogland Note, the remainder supposed to be £ 5 Notes of Pares' Bank ; a banker's deposit Receipt for £ 60 from Lutter- worth Bank ; two promissory Notes tor £ 60 each, and other Memoranda. £ 10 reward will be paid by the said Mr. Hurst, on conviction of the offende or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Constabulary Station, Hinckley.— Bow street, February 24. description, from that direction, 35 years of age. 5 feet 9 inches high ; dressed in a brown coat and cap.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, February 26. Stolen from a field at Machien House, Treforest, on or about the I4 h Ocober last, a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 bauds high, with three or four saddle marks on back ; and her foal, a bay horse Colt, white face, the hind feet white above the fetlocks, and is a very strong colt ; the property of Mr. Enoch Davies, Fochrhew, hamlet of Brithdin. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, lebruary 24, ABSALOM DENNARD, of Deptford, is charged with horse stealing at Nu field, on the 17th December last : he is about 20yrs. of age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins. bub, brown hair, no whiskers, round face, fresh complexion, and rather bow legged ; dressed io a brown overcoat, with velvet collar, cord trousers, tight to the legs, and black billycock hat; he is known amongst horse copers, and frequently visits Birmingham and fairs in all parts of the country. Absconded from South Shields, on the 20th instant charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 104 : JNO. ELLIOTT late postmaster, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, very stoutly made, round shouldered, lull face, full grey beard, is very short- sighted, weas spectacles, droops his head, turns his toes out, and has a peculiar way of swinging his arms when walking; dressed in da'k clothes and low- crowned black billycock hat; he may endeavour to emigrate to America. 2 POLICE GAZETTE. BARTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9tn November last, as having absconded from Worcester charged with embezzling monies of his employers, Messrs. Hill, Evans, and Co. He is ODly 30 years of age, 5 teet 0 inches high, stout build, full lace, rather sallow complexion, light hair, light sandy beard, mous- tache, and whiskers, and betrays a hurried excited manner ; was a traveller iu vinegar and British wines. Several cases of forgery by him have been lately discovered. £ 20 reward will be paid for his apprehension. They took tickets for London at the Ingatestone Station of the Great Eastern Railway, at 9 p. m. on the 19' b rnstaut, got into the train, but jumped out again and ran away.
