IVotice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the t'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War 0ffic2, Pall Mall, London,' S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING On the 23rd ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born male Child was found deposited in an opeo grave, in the Wolver- hampton Cemetery, in a small deal box, with the name • Harper Twelvetrees, Blacking,' on a paper pasted inside the lid, and a coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 26 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any per- son who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said child, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the like result. Information to be given to Captain Segrave, Chief Constable, Wolverhampton.— Bow- tireet, February 15. The body of a newly- born male child, quite naked, was found in a field in the parish of Llantarnam, in the county of Monmouth, on the 28ih ultimo. A verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown has been returned at the coroner's inquest. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Usk, or to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool.— Bow- street j February 15. About 9 p. m. on the 4th inst., Martha Hillas was wilfully murdeied in the Hope and Anchor- yard, Bank- street, Bradford, in the county of York. Her Majesty's Government will pay £ 100 reward t > any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said Martha Hillas, and will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the like result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 15. Description of JOHN COOPER, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, charged with the murder of Peter Pearson and Sarah Ann Cooper, at Poplar, on the 7th instant. He is 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, 11 irid complexion, brown hair, and whiskers round chin same colour, a mark over left eyebrow, lost thumb on the left hand ; dressed in ( supposed) black frock coat, light cloth trousers, blue cloth cap ( French peik). By trade an engineer. Information to be giVen to the Detective Police, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, February 12. On the night of the 29th ultimo a murderous assault was committed on the keepers and watchmen on the Garnstone Estate, in the parish of Kings Pyon, Herefordshire, by several poachers unknown. A reward of £ 26 is offered to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders, who are supposed to be much marked and bruised from the struggle, information to be given to the Chief Constable, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Dallow, Police Station, Weobley, Hereford- shire.— Bow- ttreet, February 10. The Secretary of State for the Home Department has caused a reward of £ 25 to be offered for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the male child whose body was picked up at sea, near Tenby, on the 17th ultimo; and will recommend the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the like result.— Bow- street, February 8. ARSON AND WlLFUL BURNING- Absconded from Berry Hill, near Coleford, Gloucester- shire, charged with having, on the 2ad instant, at the parish of Newland, unlawfully, maliciously, and feloniously set fire to a certain stack of Straw, the | iro erty of Mr. William Wherrett: GEORGE, alias BOSS BIBY, 30 years of age, about 6 feet 8| inches high, saDdy hair, worn short, whiskers shaved off, fresh complexion, full face, which is freckled and slightly blotched, has lost two teeth from the left side of upper jaw, the remainder irregular and discoloured by decay, stout build, broad flat shoulders and back, walks erect, with swaggering gait; dressed when he absconded in black cloth cap with cloth peak, black cloth jacket with pockets outside, dark vest, and dark mixture trousers ; he is a coal miner, and will most likely be seeking work at the collieries in Wales, Staffordshire, or Yorkshire. Information to he given to Superintendent White, Police Court, Coleford, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- areet. February 8. FORGERY. Absconded from Bibury, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, about the 16th December last, charged with forgery : ALBERT LEA, a tailor, 35 years of age 6 feet 10 inches high, fair com- plexion, light sandy hair and whiskers, good looking, and of smart appearance ; dressed when last seen in black coat and vest, and light trousers He was last heard ol in Suffolk- street, Commercial road, London, where he has relatives living, also at St. Teter's- road, Mile End. £ 2 reward will be paid for his apprehension, on application to Mr. Kensett, miller, Bibury, near Cirencester. Information to be given to Superintendent Riddiford, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. February 6. JOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of JOHN WILSON, a native of East Cot- tingwith, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, charged with having, about 7 p. m. of the 9th iDStant, on the highway near Huntingdon assaulted Elizabeth Forth, and stolen from her person a brown and grey mixture Shawl, with striped border a little darker, which he offered for pledge in York the same evening, and is not yet recovi red : he is 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark hair and whiskers, fresh complexion, and dressed in old velvet coat, dark mixture cloth vest and trousers, with stripe down side, and carried a bundle tied up in a red coloured handkerchief with large white spats. He has been employed as a farm labourer for the last month at Sheriff Hutton, and will most likely seek employment at some farm house. A warrant has been granted for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, Heworth, North Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen from the person of a gentleman while standing in Old- street, in the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, about 3 p. m. on the 9th instant : a gold lever Watch, white dial, sunk in the centre, and small seconds hand, sunk, No. 16223. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- stteet, February 10. Stolen on the 3rd inst. from the person of William Kirk- ham, at Church Lawton. a silver lever Watch, maker's name F. C. Dillon, Kidsgrove No. 16419. Between 11 30 p. m on the 9th and 6 a. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. George Ward, publican. No. 29, Syke- street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 10s. in small Coins; a black cloth shooting Coat, two outside pockets with covers, and one inside left breast, bound all rouod with black silk braid, black covered buttons) lined with black alpaca, sleeves with slate coloured calico, a small tear under right arm ; a dark ribbed cloth monkey Jacket, two outside pockets, aud one inside left breast, lined with black alpaca, bound with black braid, has been repaired under each arm; a black and white woollen Scarf, small check ; two woollen Shirts, scarlet with black stare, have been repaired ; four brass Candlesticks, large size; two white flannel Singlets, one nearly new, and the other part worn ; four ounces of cut and twist Tobacco ; a quart Bottle with three gills of port Wine in it; and two white glass gill Bottles with Rum in them. Further description cf the man suspected of the burglary at Barrow Hall, Lincoln- hire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, WILLIAM WALLICE. 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches hi^ b, slender figure, very sallow complexion, long dark hair, grey eyes, high cheek bones, sunken eyes, rather large nose, long 6harp features, scar on right groin, cupped on right > ide, a wart on back, and large veins on both legs ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark trousers, and black soft- crowned hat, and, supposed, a long dark muffler. He was liberated from Beverley Goal on the 30th ult.; stated he had been in the 52nd Foot, and that he should go to Aberdeen, in Scotland,, where he had a friend, a butcher, in good circumstances. Between 10 p. m. on the 4th and 5 a. m. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Dew, of Brampton Abbotts, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dozvn of port Wine ; three bottles of Sherry ; a silver tea Spoons, marked ' M. D.;' a piece of Cheese ; and a piece of plum Cake. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Cope, Ross, Hereford- shire.— Bow- street, February 12. Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant, frota a stable at Foulsyke, in the parish of Holme Cultram, the property of William Carson, farmer : a cart Saddle ; a pair of Stavs ; a Halter ; and 8 lbs. of horse Hair. Also stolen from two other stables in the same parish, the same night: a quantity of Harness, which has been recovered. A man of the following description is charged with stealing the same : CHRISTOPHER WHITE, 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, a labourer or quarry man, native ot Aikshaw, Cumberland, walks lame of the right foot, having had the ankle crushed some time ago, has an impediment in his speech, dark hair, and slender figure ; he was dressed in a dark round- about coat, black vest, moleskin trousers, black cap with peak, and clogs; he has a relative living in Kilmarnock, to which place he is supposed to have gone, or may be found npon some public works in the adjoining counties. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Spencer, Wigton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, February 10. Between 11 p. m. on the 7th and 330 a. m. on the 8th instant, a dwelling- house at Heaton Norris was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a dark grey Topcoat, newly turned, one outside pocket in each side, and an inside ditto in left breast, black bone buttons, lined with blue and black woollen plaid ; a boy's black tweed Jacket, one outside pocket on each side, one inside left breast, black bone buttons, lined with black and white tweed ; a black Shawl with fringe ; and six electro- plated Tea Spoons. Also stolen, from a draper's shop at Newton Heath, between 10 30 p. m. on the 7th and 7am on the 8th instant, three woollen plaid Shawls, with grey middles and peach- coloured borders ; a brown and white plaid Shawl, small diamond pattern ; two woollen plaid Shawls, with brown middles and white borders ; three women's scarlet and black striped Skirts ; and a white calico Shirt, with linen front and wristbands. Information to lie giveu to the Superintendent of County Con- stabulary, Old Trafford, near Mauchester.— Boa- street, Feb. 10. About 2 a. m. on the 9th instant, Brampton Lodge, the residence ot J. Shepherd, Esq., was broken and entered, and the follow ing articles stolen therein : a black cloth Over- cos*, with velvet collar ; a brown cloih ditto, with velvet collar, nearly new ; a silver Sugar Ladle, crest— a tower, issuant therefrom a deini lion under a wreath ; a hair cable Albert, gold centre and ends, wiih gold horn and bloodstone attached : and a small Boot Hook. Supposed by a man about 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark hair and whiskers turning grey, stout built, ai d dressed in a dark frock coat, light plaid trousers, and high crown liar. Information to be given" to Sup rintendent Cope, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- st., Feb. 10. Further information respecting SAMUEL GODBE- HERE, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant, charged with stealing a Pony ; it has been touud sold at Crich by him. He was in Manchester ou the 9th and 10ch iustaut seeking employment at staples and from cab proprietors. He is 5 feet 5 inches high, and not 6 feet 8 inches, as previously advertised. Information to be given to Inspector Sharpe, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension— Boi. - street, February 15. The dark brown gelding Cob, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, as stolen from a meadow in the parish of Tilehurst, has beeu found in the possession of WM. HOLLOWAY, beer house keeper and bricklayer at Egham, Surrey, who has since absconded, and a warrant has been issued for his apprehension, for receiving the horse well know- ing the same to have been stolen : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout, red bloated freckled face, John Smith, Eyton Mill. A warrant has been issued against WILLIAM CARDEN, collier, of the Dark- lane, for stealii g the same, he is about 2,7 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, whiskers cut otf, pale face, a blue mark under left eye ; dressed in a Mue cloth jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, black cloth cap, and old elastic side spring mots. A rewaid of 10i. will be paid by Mr. Smith, to any person giving infor- mation that will lead to bis apprehension and conviction. G., anchor and heart on left wrist ; was sen- tenced to 6 years penal 6eivitude at Newington Sessions for larceny after previous conviction ; his sentence will expire 31st January, 1870. JOHN ELDRIDGE, No. 5137, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, light hogsl eyes, scats OB upper lip, left wrist and forehead ; was sentenced to 5 years penal servitude at Middlesex Sessions for housebreaking ; hie sentence will expire on the 4th of February, 1870. Absconded from Middlesborough on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 6459, eyes, dark hair, browu sandy ( few) whiskers, principally upon chin, a boil scar on buck ot utck, on right of forehead, and on right cheek near the ear, aud dressed in a black overcoat, no vest, led aud black woollen scarf, cord trouaeis fitting tight to the leg, old half- boots, at d a speckled hat with soft crown and stiff brim ; he is a groom, states he was born at Rotherfield, Sussex, and that he has a father living there, a labourer! Information to be given to Superintendent Jenner, Police Station, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, febt uary 15. Description of three men committed for trial at the ensuing quarter sessions at Northallerton, for larceny in the borough ot Middleshoroughon the 12th instant, viz.: ROBERT GREGG, 27 years of age. 5 feet 7 inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, carroty- red whiskers, fresh com' plexion, bricklayer, aud is a native of Oakham Rutlandshire- thick lips, high cheek hones, large front teeth, peculiar nose, Cattinio, Stockton, silver dial, gold figures,' Joseph and has an impediment in his speech, rather sandy whiskers and \ iargQret Hill' eugraved in the inner case, - J. M. H.' on outer hair, and very awkward gait ; dressed in pilot, jacket, dark oage _ a stonemason, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches waistcoat, corduroy trousers, und black billycock liat. Is a ANDREW CUNNINGHAM, alias ALFRED JENKINS native of Inkberrow, Worcestershire, and has been for the stonemason, 33 years of age, fresh complexion, 6 feet 8i inches' past few months employed as waiter at the Star Hotel, high, blue eyes, red hair, and is a native of Macclesfield- Worcester.
