Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Offica, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING The Secretary of State for the Home Department has caused a reward of £ 25 to be offered for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the male child whose body was picked up at sea, near Tenbv, on the 17th ultimo ; and will recommend the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the like result.— Bow- street, February 8. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING Absconded from Berry Hill, near Coleford, Gloucester- shire, charged with having, on the 2ud instant, at the parish of Newland, unlawfully, maliciously, and feloniously set fire to a certain stack of Straw, the property of Mr. William Wherrett: GEORGE, alias BOSS BIBY, 30 years of age, about 6 ieet 8$ inches high, sandy hair, worn short, whiskers shaved off, fresh complexion, full face, which is freckled and slightly blotched, has lost two teeth from the left side of upper jaw, the remainder irregular and discoloured by decay, stout build, broad flat shoulders and back, walks erect, with swaggering gait; dressed when he absconded IU black cloth cap with cloth peak, black cloth jacket with pockets outside, dark vest, and dark mixture trousers ; he is a coal miner, and will most likely be seeking work at the colli. ries in Wales, Staffordshire, or Yorkshire. Information to be given to Superintendent White, Police Court, Coleford, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for hi6 apprehension.— Bow- sireet, February 8. FORGERY. Absconded from Bibury, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, about the 16th December last, charged with forgery : ALBERT LEA, a tailor, 35 years of age 6 feet 10 inches high, fair com- plexion, light sandy hair and whiskers, good looking, and of smart appearance ; dressed when last seen in black coat and vest, and light trouaeis. He was last heard of in Suffolk- street, Commercial road, London, where he has relatives living, also at St. Peier's- road, Mile End. £ 2 reward will be paid for his apprehension, on application to Mr. Kensett, miller, Bibury, near Cnences'er. Information to be given to Superintendent Riddiford, Cons'abulary Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 6. Further information respecting EDWARD THOMAS FITZGERALD, late clerk to the Chief Constable of East Suffolk, adv<- r ised in the Police G- zette of the 26th ult., charged withforgery. He W^ B traced to Brighton on the 26th ult., from whence he absconded, leaving at the Queen's Hotel there his portmanteau, masonic apron, and malacca cane. Had in his possession a ticket for Marseilles. He is supposed to be wearing a new gold watch, purchased at Brighton, and has a bunch of keys with his i. ame engraved on a label, but was going by the name of FREDERICK EDWARDS. He has shaved off his whiskers, and is wearing a talse moustache; dressed when at Brighton in black frock c at, violet necktie, light trousers, black hat ( maker's name Read, Ipswich). Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Earl Soham, Wickham Market, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and by whom £ 20 reward will be paid.— Bnw- street, February 3. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 31st ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Brown was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : an old- fashioned pair case silver Watch, a dent in outside case, and will not go; a black silk Guard ; a German silver Guard ; two Brooches, one a Scotch Pebble, the other a common one ; and an old silver tea Spoon. Information to be given to Super- intendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, February 8. During the night of the 4th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Parks, in the parish of Saint Leonards, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver Card Case, about 4 inches long 3 inches wide, and J of an inch thick, has a castle on one side and some buildings on the other, in bas- relief, contains some cards with Mr. Parks' name on them ; about half of a shoulder of cooked Yeal, and some Bread, Information to be given to Superintendent Jef- fery, Guestling. near Hastings, or to any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, February 8. During the night of the 5th instant, the premises of Messrs. Fowler and Co., drapers, of St. Mary- street, Cardiff, were broken and entered, and the following Articles stolen therein, viz : forty eight Farthings ; 6d. in Coppers ; lis. in Silver; about eight yards of black silk Velvet ; and twenty- four silk Pocket- bandkerchiefs, white ground and spots of vaiious colours. Information to be given to Superintendent Box Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 8. On the night of the 2nd ultimo Charles and William Leedam ( brothers), of Coton- in- the- Elms, Derbyshire, were waylaid on their road home, and robbed of the following pro- perty : from Charles Leedam was taken a silver lever Watch, with the name of Thomas Leedam and lt> 27 engraved inBide, and £\ IGs in money. From William was taken a silver pair- case Watch, maker Jones, London, No, 4012. and a pair of new lace- up Boots. By two men, named CHARLES WAYTE and WILLIAM HARRIS, both of Stapenhill, who have absconded. Wayte is about 22 years of age, 6 feet 6 or C inches high, fair complexion, large bead, dressed in dark cloth coat and ves', cord trousers, and Scotch cap with peak. Harris is about 21 or 22 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, thin face, pale complexion, dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, billycock hat, turned up at the sides. They were traced to Leicester, and Harris was apprehended. Wayte is still at large, and may be found working in some brick yard. Police officers are particularly requested to make inquiry at pawnbrokers or leaving shops for the stolen Watches. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Burton, Stapenhill, Derbyshire, near Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, February 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house by means of housebreaking, at Etwall, near Derby, on the 1st instant : a black cloth Coat, made to button with one button in front, pockets outside the skirts with lids, and pockets inside and outside left breast, about half worn ; a pair of dark mixture Trousers, twilled, with fall fronts, lined with white calico ; a grey mixture Vest, made to button up to the throa', the bottom button off; a light coloured grey cloth Coat, bound with light braid, pockets out- side the skirts, one pocket in left breast; a daik cloth Over- coat, fly front, two pockets outside, bound with braid, third button off. Information to be given to Superintendent Whiel- don. County Police Station, Litchurch, Derby.— Bow- street, February 6. During the night of the 2nd instant the dwelling- house of B. W. Aplin, Esq., of Boddicott, near Banbury, Oxon, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a large silver Waiter, beaded round the rim, and stands on three legs, the initials ' P. W' in the centre ; a brown leather Purse with gilt clasp, three compartments inside, and from £ 8 to £ 10 in Gold and Silver. Information to he given to Superintendent Whadcoat, County Police Station, Oxon .- Bow- street, Feb- ruary 5. Between 11 p m. on the 2nd and G a. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Evans, at Axten, Llanasa, was broken and entered, and a mahogany box stolen, and broken open in a field, and the contests, consisting of a mahogany Dial. Box. a ditto Compass B ' X, and a half- pint silver Goblet (' S. E. F. Y. C.' engraved on it) taken away ; the whole of the boxes were left in the field. Between 1 and 8 a. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Aversion, at the Point of Ayr, in the parish of Llanasa, was . broken and eutered. and a Box taken outside and forced| open, and the sum of £ 6 10s in gold stolen therefrom ; a quantity of Clothing was carried outside, but left behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, February b. Oa the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Thos. Twiner, in the parish of Withyham, Sussex, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: three Sovereigns ; three Half- Crowns ; and 3s. in Money ; a silver albert Chain, Key with Seal at one eod attached ; a gilt Breast Pin, with small red glass in the top, which has a small piece hroken off; a very dark grey cloth shooting Jacket, with a pocket outside each lap with lid ; a pocket inside left breast ; has covered buttons, lined with black twill, nearly new, and has rnther a high collar. Sup- posed by a man, about 25 years of age, about 6 feet 6 or 6 inches high, light complexion and hair, tew light whiskers, slight figure, and had the appearance of a gentleman's servant ; dressed in speckled bat, with sott crown and stiff brim, black and white plaid scarf, light grey coat, black cloth trousers, and is supposed to be wearing tbe stolen coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard East Grinstead, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, February 3. Further information respecting the housebreaking at Mr. W. Sutton's, at Norton, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo : there bas since been missed 8 woollen Cross- over, black middle, with violet border, and three or four box Keys on a ring ; there is also a patch on the front of the woollen under Shirt. The tall man was weariDg a blue pilot cloth sac or monkey jacket, and barrigan ribbed trousers, broken and mended at the knee or knees ; both appeared to belong to Birmingham, or the upper part of Worcestershire or South Staffordshire, seemed to be in the hardware line of business, and it is supposed that they went from Ledbury by the 6' 16 train towards Worcester. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bou>- street, February 3. Stolen on the 1st instant, by means of burglary, from a house in the parish of South Weald, near Brentwood : a silver bed room candle Stick, embossed round the edges, and marked ' G.,' also the silver top of an inkstand. Information to be given at the Police Station. Brentwood.— Bow- street, Feb. 3. Further information respecting the burglary committed at a dwelling- house in the borough of Glossop, during the night of the 26th, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ult.: in a field, a short distance from the house that was broken into, there has been found a pasteboard box, containing small wares, a pair of men's old elastic- side Boots, an old blue and white striped Shirt, and the following articles that had been stolen ; the black Shawl, cord Trousers, and a quart Can. The box of small wares were seeu in the possession of a man of the following description on the 26 h ultimo, and who is sus- pected of having committed the robbery : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers, small tuft of hair under ctiin ; dressed in a dark drab overcoat, supposed cord trousers, and brown cloth cap. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Glossop, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, February 3. Between 11 p. m. on the 21st and 6 a. m. on the 22nd ult., the dwelling- house of Mr. Frost, Nantwich- road, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark blue witney Over- coat, one breast and two outside pockets ; a flannel Singlet; a woollen Shirt, grey ground, black and brown stupe ; a pair of slender blucher Shoes, left shoe patched on the side, newly repaired ; about 2 lbs. of roasted Mutton, and a piut of Milk. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Wood, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bou.- stre£ t, February 3. About 2 a. m. on the 31st ultimo, Barrow Hall, the residence of G. C. Uppleby, Esq, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : nine tea Spoons, marked with stag's head, four dessert Spoons, marked ' J. C. U.,' two Table Spoonsj marked ' V. J. M.,' two snuff Boxes, one plain, end the other tortoiseshell lid. and a pair of sugar Tongs, all silver; five Seals, one figure of a stag's head and castle, one with inscription on it, one plain crest stag's head, and two small ones with stag's head and castle, all gold ; a small Portrait, with gold rim ; a small ivory Box ; 3s or 4s. worth of postage Stamps ; a soft crowned Hat, with stiff brim ; and a black cloth top Coat, single breasted, buttons partly pulled off, lined with serge, two pockets outside, and one button in the middle of each pocket. By a man, middle age, about 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, thin features, and long dark hair ; supposed dressed in the stolen coat and hat, and dark trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., Feb. 3. SORS£ AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 1st instant, from the Fair in the borough of Evesham, a small light coloured red and white Cow, principally white, in very low store condition, with one horn broken and bandaged close to the head, and the other horn stumpy and deformed, and has lately been in milk. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, or to Sergeant Mann, Police Station, Evesham, Worcestershire — Bow- street, February 8. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from Eastdown Park, Lee : a bay Pony and Chaise, 10 hands high, black tail and legs, a piece of hair off one leg ; the chaise is small, painted green, step broken, loose seat, with hack ; and the harness is silver mounted.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, February 8. Stolen on the night of the 27th ult., from a field at Etting- shall Park, in the parish of Sedgley, a dark brown cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, white face, white hind legs, and blind in one eye, the property of Thomas Jones. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Police Office, Sedgley, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, February 8. Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant, from a meadow in the parish of Tilehurst, near Reading, Berks, the property of Mr. Thomas Kitchen : a dark brown geldiug Cob. 6 years old, about 14 hands high, large head, long ears, and a few white hairs on one side of the forehead, black legs, and rather flat footed on the fore feet, Ion* rough coat, in good condition, a fast trotter, and quiet to ride or drive. Information to be given to Superintendent Crook, Berks Constabulary Station Reading.— Bow- sireet, February 6. Supposed stolen from a yard at Foulmire, on the night of the 29th ultimo, au iron grey horse Pony, about 12 hands high, 6 years old, rough coat, dark legs, and the tail cut square above the hocks. Information to be given to Superintendent Pallant Arrington, Royston, Cambs.— Bow- street, February 5. Supposed to h « e been stolen since July last, from the Race Common, Warwick, a white Heifer, 2 years old, the pro- peity of Mr. John Woodward, maltster, Warwick. A good 2 P O L I C E OAZE/ riE. Stolen from a field at Fisherwick Grove Farm, between the 27th and 30ih ultimo, a shearling Rain, with long tail, two shearling Wethers, and three Hogs, pitch marked ' W.' on the off side, ot the black face bread. Alto stolen from Huddlesford, o., ie night of the 27th ult., five Ewes in lamb, aud a tup Lamb, marked on both sides with pitch ' J S.' in circle. Description of JOHN HARNEY, a jobbing butcher, of Roath, near Cardiff, charged wiili . stealing 4 Sheep in October last, the property of Hopkin Smith : he is a native of Pandy, Monmouthshire, 37 years of a^ e, 5 feet ( i J inches high, fresh complexion, dark biown hair, grey eyes, scar on right thumb and on lett side ot forehead. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Thomas, Constabulary Office, Ponty- pridd, Glamorganshire.— Bow- ttre-' February 3. Stolen during the night of the 30t! i ultimo, from a field in the parish of Charwelton : a long woolled ewe Sheep, with a notch cut iu the top of near ear in the torm of a V, branded on near side with ' H.,' a dot of raddle either under H or between the shoulders, also raddled on ihe rump. A reward of -£ 10 will be paid by Mr. William Hands, Staverton, for the appre- hension at. d conviction ot the offender or offenders. Supposed stolen from a field a Havod, in the parish. of Margam, between the 27th aud 29ili ultimo, a bay mountain mare Pony, about 11 hands high, black mane, tail, aud legs ; has a Colt, the same colour, 15 months old. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, County Constabulary, Bridgend, Glamorganshire.— How- street, February 3. Further information respecting GEORGE CHAPLIN, who absconded from Portsmouth, advertised in the- Police Gazette of the Ist instant, the Bank of England Notes were issued at the Portsmouth Branch Bank ot Euclaml, and the gold hunting Watch has ' Osborn, No. 4307.'— Bute- street, February 5. lAEJif. - If » IS - IB EZZLU . A man, lodger, 10 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in black cloth trousers and vest, two dark coats, and blucher boots.— — Metropolitan Police, W Division, February 8. Ab- conded on the I4th ultimo, from No. II, Wilson street, Shoreditch, embezzling £ 17 4s 8d. A man, of No. 5, Uuion- road, South Hackney, 3) years of age. 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion mid hair, light moustache ; dressed in blue pilot oveicoat, black trousers, black necktie, and hat with mourning hand.— Metropolitan Police, G Dioision, February 8 Description of MESIAH HALL. of Broseley, Shrop- shire, charged with stealing 14a. in Silver, at Mideley, on the evening of the 3rd instai t, out of a till in a shop. About 5 feet 9 inches high 34 or 35 years of age, very brown face, no • whiskers, dark biown hair ; dressed in dark clothes and billy- cock hat, aua is well known in Staffordshire. He travels tile country selling brass taps, and sometimes glass and china. Information to be kiven to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson. Wellington, or to Sergeant Austin, Madeley. Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension— Bow- street, February 8. Description of WILLIAM FIRTH, who absconded from York, on the 3lst ult: mo, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, belonging to his master, and for whose appre- hension a warrant has been issued : he is 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, large prominent grey eyes, large mous'ache, small whiskers, smart appearance, and is very ta kative and officious when in company ; dressed in grey mixture suit, with black stripe down the trousers, and blue pilot jacaet; carries a green leather pocket- book, and will have with him bis journey book, bound in parchment and endorsed ' Wm. Firth, Hull Journey,' on each side. £ i reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension, and also 5 per Cent, upon the amount of money found in his possession. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Haley, York.— Bow- street, February 8. Stolen on the 30ih ultimo, from St. Asaph Railway Station, a new pair of corduroy Trousers, aud a bundle Hand- kerchief, white with red spots. By a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair cut Bhort, sandy whiskeis, rather thin, pale face, long nose, and dressed in black cloth coat and vest, browu c irduroy trousers, black cloth cap with peak. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Chester or Birkenhead. Information to be given to Inspector McLaren, Rhyl, or to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire.— — Bou. - street, February 8. Absconded from the borough of Cambridge, charged with embezzi- ment, HENRY FEATHERSTONE THOMAS, lately in charge of Messrs. Smith and Son's bookstall at the Cambridge Railway Station He is from 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inch's high, rather stout built, dark hair and whiskers, pockmarked, has rather a large head and face, wears bis hat on one side, of respectable appearance, and walks quick ; ilia family reside at Bristol. £ 2 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be * iven to Head Constable Turrell, Borough Police Office, Cambridge, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 8. Absconded from Minster Union, Isle of Sheppy, charged under a warrant with stealing a suit of Clothes, the property of the Guardians of the above Union, JOSEPH NIGHT- INGALE, 60 years of age, 5 leet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair and whiskers turning grey, thin face ; dressed in light cord jacket, vest and trousers, and black monkey jacket, black billycock hat, blucher boots, blue check neckerchief, all marked • S. U. I | 9 '; had an old flag basket and leather strap on his ehoulder. £ l reward is offered for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, February 5. Further description of the man suspected of the robbery at Childerly, Cambs, on the 29th ultimo, advertised in the Police Gazette of the Ist instant: he is a native of Kirton Lindsey, about 60 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, erect carriage, having been in the army, small sandy whiskers, hair turning giey ; when last heard of was wearing a low- crowned hat, shabby clothing, and black and white striped shirt. He slept at Huntingdon on the 29ib, and at Stilton, Hunts, on the 30th and 3lst ultimo, is supposed to be making his way into Lincolnshire, and to be carrying the stolen properly tied up in a blue handkerchief or the stolen drab slop.
