C. * « * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 10th instant, the dead body of a male child, about 6 months old, and quite naked, was fouud in a ditch of water, eighteen inches deep, in a field about 40 yards from the turnpike- road leadiiig from Thornbury to Gloucester, there are no external marks of violence ou the body, other than slight bruises on the right side of the forehead, it was not decomposed, and could not have been dead more than two or three days : the child is well made and fat, has two front teeth in the lower jaw, very little hair ( rather sandy), blue eyes, and had been vaccinated. It is suppo- ed to have been brought some distance. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown has been returned at the coroner's inquest. In'ormation to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, or to Sergeant Arthur, Police Office, Thornbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, January 26. The body of a newly- born male child was picked up at sea on the 17th instant, about 600 yards S. W. of St. Catherine's Island : the body was sewn up iu a piece of black satin, the skull was fractured ( before death), and a punctured wound had been inflicted on the chest, which had not penetrated its cavity, no medical aid had apparently been had at the birth. It appears to have been in the water from 40 to 48 hours. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder' has been returned. Information to be given to Chief Constable Thomas, Tenby, Pembrokeshire. ~~ Bou>- itreet, January 26. Further information respecting WILLIAM RICHARDS, advertised in tne Police Gazette of the 2nd ultimo, charged With the murder of Joseph Butler, one of Lord Lisburne's gamekeepers, on the morning of the 28th November last, and tor whose apprehension a reward of £ 100 is offered : he is still & t large, aDd it is supposed that be will endeavour to get a passage to America, and to be now in the neighbourhood of London. Description of SARAH CRAWFORD, a widow, who is charged on a coroner's warrant with the murder of her illegitimate child, by drowning it in a lodge of water at Great Leven, on the 28ih ultimo : she is about 24 years of age, but JPpears much ynunger, about 6 feet high, fresh complexioL, " lue eyes, light brown hair, lost one of hei lower front teeth, and has a scar on the back of her right hand ; dressed when ' ast seen in a black straw bonnet, trimmed with blue ribbon, drrk brown winsey dress, and oaisley shawl. She is a winder ® t a cotton mill, but has been in servic iu Manchester, Liver- Sool, Bury. Le. da, Normanton, and London; is a native of arnsley, Yorkshire, where tier father resides, she has also a sister residing at Brompton, near Northallerton, Yorkshire. Information to be given to Colonel Bruce, to Chief Constable Preston, or to Superintendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton Lancashire.— Bow- meet, January 18. On the night of the 24th ultimo, at Newton Harcourt, in the county of Leicester, a gang of men ( eight or ten in number) violently assaulted William Cross, one ol the constables of the Leicestershire Constabulary, when on duty, knocking him down and beating him with bludgeons, inflicting serious Farm, Beaconsfield, was discovered on fire and the greater part consumed. Supposed the act " f an incendiary. Absconded, EDWARD THOMAS FITZGERALD, late clerk to the Chief Constable « . f the Eastern Division of the county of Suffolk, and lately reading at Earl Soham, who is charged upon a warrant with Forgery : he is 26 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, but look a shorter, slight make, fair com- plexion, rather pale, auburn hair artificially coloured a light brown, very thin brown whiskets round his chin, blue eyes, has a peculiar twitch of the mouth, keeps his left hand in his trousers pocket, smokes a meerschaum pipe, is in- toed, and keeps his eyes on the ground » hen walking ; he is a member of a masonic lodge, and 1ms tnkeu a masonic apron in his portmanteau, which also contain* a suit i f black, the breast of the frock coat faced with silk ; < iy tr-. de an engraver and gun- maker; supposed to be wearing a fashionable black and white mixture morning coat and waistcoat. light brown trousers with dark stripe down the side, side spring boots, white or flannel shirt, and narrow necktie. He has a silver watch and two guard chain?, one a heavy gold or giit albert with appendages, tbe otber a hair chain with gold or gilt mountings ; wears a masonic ring, and has gold maaonic snirt studs, and a hand- some malacca cane, with a dog's head carved in ivory and silver mountings. He took away with him upwards of .£ 200, and is likely to be free with his money. It is supposed he will leave the conntry. He was seen in London on the 19th inst., when he called at a police clothing depot to change a cheque for £ 40 ; he was theo weiring an old shabby overcoat, dark trousers, black hat, shabby ap(, e, rancf. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- About 1 a. m. on the 17th instant a wheat rick and a rick oats in the rickyard of Jesse Betts, farmer, at Gregory's SLOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM TH£ PfchSON- Stolen by a woman, from the person of a drover at Lampeter Fair, on the night of the 1 Ith instant, £ 16 in Gold, and ten £ 6 Bank of England Notes, Nos. supposed to be from 66047 to 66066 inclusive. Infoimation to be given to Super- intendent Hall, Llandyssul, or to sergeant Roberts, Lampeter, Cardiganshire.— Bow- nreet. January 26. Between 6 and 10 p m. on the 21st instant, the Castle Hotel, Tranmere, was broken and entered, and stolen from a chest of drawers: 60 Sovereigns and about 60s. in Silver. 1 gold Bignet Ring, figure ot stag's head on cornelian stone in shape ot a shield. 1 gold diamond mourning Rng. set in shape of a star. 1 set of gold Ear- rings, s. t with lubies. 1 plain ditto. 1 gold keeper Ring. 1 plated Brooch, set wilh coral. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammond, County Police, Abbey- street, Birkenhead — How- street, January 25. Stolen from a lady's pocket on the 14th instant, while walking between the farm of Muirhouse- head and Lockerbie, a lady's gold patent lever Watch, No 84i08, makers Henry Stuart and Co., Liverpool, small siz « , flowered dial, black numerals, steel hands, no seconds hand, outside of cases flowered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, County Buildings, Dumfries.—/ lo">- street January 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Absconded from Downham. Essex, on the 20th instant, charged with breaking and en'rnug the dwelling- house of Mr. Richardson, at the same place: WILLIAM MOTT, 28 years of age, 6 feet 6 or G inches high, fair complexion, whiskers round the chin, rather large features, and dressed in a black cloth coat, double breasted ditto waistcoat, old slop worn inside, yellow striped cotton shirt, c - rd trousers, with patch on one knee, all old and dirty, neirlv new lace- up boots. He went to London, but is supposed to have returned to the country, and is likely to seek employment waere there is a thrashing machine. Information to he itiveu to Sergeant Hawtree, Rayleigh, Essex. who holds a warraat for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 26. Between 2 and 8 a. m. on the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of C. L. Bolckow. Esq . of Marton, near Middlesborougb, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : a black marble Timepiece, stripes of green serpentine, French make, with balance on top of dial, the letters ' F' and ' S.' written on each side of balance in ink over the original French letters ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar, lined inside with black and white check, double breasted, with six black Bilk buttons, two pockets outside, right hand one having a smaller one inside, breast pocket inside; a brown single- breasted Overcoat, black velvet collar and breast, three black silk buttons, the top one rather torn ; six meerschaum Pipes, two short ones in cases, one burnt down, two silver- mounted bowls, one in a case, name of maker in Vienna inside, a cigar pipe, bowl shape, with head of a horse carved on it, one of the ears broken off name of maker in Vienna inside, and a short pipe, with flit 2. inch stem, broken, carving on stem, near the head, representing a Tyrolese hunter, large amber mouth- piece, in esse, name of maker in Vienna inside; two brown silk Umbrellas, one with white ivory handle, top broken, the other with large t> rown wood handle, nearly new ; and a pair of grey buckskin Gloves Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, Stokesley, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, North Ormesby, Middlesborough — Bow- street, January 26. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at bangor, Flintshire between 1 and 7 16 a. m. on the 19th instant: two £ 5 Bank of England Notes ; £ 4 in Gold ; 20s in Silver ; a small silver caddy Spoon, shell shape, with crest— hand and dagger ; a small gold Seal in fot m of a bird holding the seal, crest— hand and dagger ; a small silver Funnel or Wine Strainer, ' B.' cat near the top on outside, were stolen therein. Supposed by two men : one middle age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, long thin face, high cheek bones, light brown hair, no whiskers, and slight moustache ; dressed in shabby datk clothes, and cap with French peak. He represents himself as a Frenchman unable to speak English, is in the habit ot calling at clergymen's and other gentlemen's houses, going to the front door, and products an inscription in English, wants to see tbe lady or gentleman to speak French, he represents himself as a discharged soldier from the French Army, trying to raise funds tn get back to his own country, & c. The other is a shorter man, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes. He ia supposed to be an Englishman, and generally waits in the distance while the Frenchman calls to beg. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Boto- itreet, January 26. Further information respecting the case of housebreaking at Clapton, advert sed in the Police Gazette of the 13th inst.: the man WM. JONES, apprehended at Cambridge, ia now under remand on the charge, the greater part of the stolen property being traced to his possession. Another man is now charged with assisting in the robbery, and gave tbe name of HENRY WILLIAMS, alias HARRIS, a native of Surrey, 40 to 45 years ot age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark com- plexion, tmall eyes, erev hair and whiskers, and dressed in an old dark brown monkey jacket, two pockets outside with flaps, dark twill lining, cord trousers, dark double- breasted vest, mended with calico under the arms, or a cord vest, dark brown woollen shirt, soft black billycock hat, strong lace- up boots lately soled and heeled He stated he had been dismissed from the F Division of the Metropolitan Police after serving a month in Cold Bath Fields Prison for assaulting his sergeant or inspector, about 7 yeats ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Noble, Oundle, Northamptonshire.— Boto- st., January 25. Between 10 a. m. and 6 p m. on the 31st ult. the dwelling- house of William Gurley, at Packwood, in the county of Warwick, was broken and entered, and the following articles were stolen therein: a grey Top Coat with velvet collar; a black cloth Jacket, and about £ G in gold and silver Coin. Supposed by a respectably- dressed man, in brown jacket and trousers, and billycock hat, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high. Information to he given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden. — Bow- street. January 26. During the night of the 21st instant the shop of Mr. John Jones, Gwyddlewern, near Corwen, in the county of Merioneth, was broken and entered, and about £ 2 in copper Coins, and 6s. in 3d. and 4d. Pieces stolen from the till. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Bala, or to Sergeant Wil- liams, Corwen.— Bow- street, January 25. Stolen by means of breaking into the L. & N. W. Railway Station at Ackerhill, in the parish of Tipton, the property of John Wright, the station master, some time during the night of the 20th inatant: a white ivory Brooch, gold plated frame ; a silver Brooch in the shape of a heart; a silk Handkerchief, magenta colour; Id. in copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Police Station, Brierley- hill, or at any Police Station iu the county of Stafford.— Boic- ttreet, Jan. 25. During the night of the 17th instant, the house used as a catholic chapel, situate in the New London- road, St. Alban's, was entered and H silver Box, containing 3 otber little Boxes, with a letter on each as follows ' C. J. B ,' containing Holy Oil, was stolen ; also about 4 yards of quilt lace, about inch wide, was taken from off a chasuble, and a portion of another chasuble carried awav. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Police Office, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, January 22. Stolen by means of housebreaking during the night of the 16th instant, from the shop of Mr D. Love, draper, Torquay : £ 4 in 3d. and 4' i. Pieces; about £ 10 in Gold ; about £ i9 m Silver ; two£ l l'iah Notes ; also two Post Office Savings' Bank Books ; and suudry Papers, of no use hot to the owner. Can be identified. Information to be given to Superintendent Baird, Devon County Constabulary. Paignton, or to Sergeant Ockford, Torquay.— Bow- street, January 20. About 3 am. on the 17th instant, a dwelling- house in Portsmouth Was broken and entered, aud s'olen therein : an old- fashioned gold Watch, with open face maker Ellicott, London. No. 441) 7 ; a set of teeth, mounted in gold, about 7 deficient; a gold Seal, snake pattern, set with red cornelian stone, with a man's head, engraved on it ; a - mill oval shaped Box, made of white striked cornelian stone, with brass edges. Absconded from Sneinton, near Nottingham, on the 12th instant, charged wiih housebreaking : a man, 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark eyes aud hair, sallow complexion, small moustache, no whiskers, thin hooked nose, smart and sharp appearauce. has been a soldier, aud walks quick ; dressed in an old coarse black cloth coat, old dark military tr'jsers, stripes taken out, old black billycock hat, military blucber boots, recently soled and nailed, has a pin with a red stone in his scarf ; has been in Preston Gaol for desertion, and branded ' D. Informal ion to be given to Sergeant King, Risely, cr to Superintendent Carruthers, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, January 26. Absconded from Newport, on the 20th inst., an Irishman, named JOhN WELsH, formerly residing at Fair- lane, Cork, 33 years of age, 6 feet 4 to 6 leet inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, long eyebrows, sunken eyes, round features, and small dark whis ers ; dressed in a Ion,; dark brown coat • with pocke's, drab trousers and vest, ihe la'ter doublebreasted with bone buttons, and strong lace- up boots ; walks with a slouching gait, and known iu London aid Bristol as an Irish cattle dealer and drover from Cork, in a small way. Charged with stealing 14 Heifers ( which have been recovered) from Barnry, near Cork, on the 18th ii St., the property of Daniel Driscoll and others aud sold at Newport on the SiOih inst., on which day he lelt Newport, having in his possession upwards of £ 80, and it is supposed that he will make for some seaport to emigrate. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Huxtable Newport. Monmouthshire, or to Sub- Inspector Gunn, Constabulary Office, Cork, who hold warrants for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 25. Sto'en on the 15th instant, from Sharples's livery stables. Regent's Park- road, a dark bay Mare, 15 hands high, star oi forehead ; also a bet of light cart Harness, and a heavy Cart, painted dark green, picked out with white. By a man who hired the above and has not returned it : 33 years ot age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hnir, iuti on chin ; dressed respectably.— Metropolitan P lice, S la vision, January 22. LARCEKYAKD EMBSZZLEMEF ' S olen during the night of the 23 d instant, from the office of Mr. James Peerless, at Eastbourne : a silver Bugle, on which was engraved : ' Presented by the ladies to the Third Sussex Artillery Volunteers, for the use of the Eastbourne Detachment. July, 1861.' Also a German silver Bugle, no marks. Supposed by three men of the following description: One about 30 years of age. 6 feet 8 ii ches high, brown hair, sandy bushy whiskers, slight figure, supposed by trade a painter ; dressed in short pilot jacket, cord trousers, and red plaid shirt. Another about 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout figure, by trade a carpenter ; dressed in drab pilot jacket, cord trouser*, and billycock hat. The other abou' 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight figure ; dressed in a long dirty drab coat, cord trousers, and billycock hat. Information to he given at tbe Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham. or to Sergeant Jobott, Eastbourne. Sussex.— Bom- street., January 25. Absconded from Shepherdswell, on tbe 20th instant, having embezzled various small sums of monev belonging to Mr. Robt. Potter, his master : WILLIAM FULLER, a journeyman baker, ab ut 20 years of age, 5 teet 2 inches high, dark hair and complexion no whiskers ; dressed in black coat, blue cloth trousers wi< h whiie stripes, black cloth waistcoat, and black felt hat with band and white buckle ; was traced to Canterbury the same day, and it is supposed ihat he left the South Eastern Railway Station there by the 7 2 p. m. train for London. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Stokes. Kent Consta- bulary, Sandwic , or to Sergeant Barnes, Eythorne, near Sandwich.— how- street, January 25. Description of WILLIAM ROSS, late County Police Constable at inverary, who absconded on the 15th instant, charged with stealing a Police Uniform. Topcoat and Trousers, both new, the property of ihe Commissioners of Supply of Argyleshire : he is about 30 years of age about 5 feet 10 inches high, grey eyes, very lair hair and whiskers ( thin) meeting under the chin, full face, fair complexion, smart and respect- able in appearanct ; is a native o' Sutherlandshire. He will likely solicit employment as a police constable. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Argyleshire, Lochgilp- head, woe holds a Sheriff's warrant for his apprehension, and will pay all reasonable expenses — Bow street, January 25. " WILLIAM BLEWITT, alias BOGIE BLEWITT, absconded from Grantham on the 18th insant, charged with breaking m'n a building, and stealing one Ham, since recovered, he is ol the following description : about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fie » h complexion, brown hair and eyes, and walks rather lame from corns has been previously convicted 5 he is well known at the livery stabien in Manchester, Notting- ham, and NewarK, and may seek at those places employment j dressed when last seen in a cloth stable jacket, with pockets ontside, check tmuaers and velvet billycock hat. Absconded on the 18 h instant, mbezzling £ 4 16s. 7d.. the money of his employer, a lad 16 years of tigs, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair aud eyes; dressed in a butcher's blue smock, brown cloth coat, dark trousers, brown billycock hat ; his mother resides at No. 34, Charlotte- street, Portland- place. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, January 25. Stolen on the 16lh ins'anf, from No. 1, Kingsgate- street, Holborn : a black dress Coat ; three dark cloth Waisrcoats ; a pairot light Trousers ; three cotton shirts ; a pair of Stockings ; two pairs of Socks'; thtee cotton Handkerchiefs; eight linen Collars. By a man, 4G years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, small whiskers ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, and hat.— Metropolian Police, E Division, January 26.
