INFORMATIONS. murder and maliciously WOUNDING, The body of a full- grown male Child with sandy hair was found on the 18th ins'., in Threadneedle- street, huddersfield, wrapped in a piece of unbleached cotton, supposed to have been n pillow slip, a piece of a dirty old caddy sheet, and covered over with a piece of old wrapper, dirty looking, but appears to have been washed, the doctor being of opinion from external examination that the child was born alive. By a man, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches higb, light complexion, no whiskers, and large fat face ; dressed in a dark coat, black trousers and vest; has the appearance of a farm labourer, dressed in his Sunday clothes. Stolen from the person in Maidstone, on the 17th instant: 1 silver Geneva hunting Watch, No. 32290. 1 large old- fashioned silver Watch, with silver Guard and Key attached. 1 old- fasbioned double- case silver Watch, maker Burch, Maidstone. 1 double- case silver Watch, with the initials ' S. H.' engraved in the centre of outside case, and the initials ' E. J H.' scratched on the inside cise, with a gold plated albert Guard, Seal, and Key attached. A nun of the following description is smpected : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, very dark Lair and complexion, little or no whiskers, has the sppearanee of a foreigner ; dressed in black frock coat, black vest and trousers, and low- crowned fashionable black hat. Was carrying a dark carpet ba?, a light brown leather bag, and an umbrella with a, Cjver ou having green and ltd spots. Letterhead, Surrey.— Bow s', red, October About 7 a m. on the 17th instant, a paper parcel was discovered by Mr. Robert Abbott, in the Air and Calder River, floating onjthe surface of the water, near the Broad- reach Lock, and about 200 yards below the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Bridge, iu the township of Stanley- cum- Wrenthorpe, which, on being opened, was found to contain the body of a newly- born male Child. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 19. night of the 7th instant, 8 £ 10 Bank of England Notes, dated January 7th, 1G68, numbered ' J 49099, 49100, 49101,49102, 49103, 49104, 49105, aud 49100 ;' and a £ 20 ditto. JOHN DELANY, of Manchester, dealer in old clothes, has been committed for trial for stealing the notes, but none of tbem have been recovered. Any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the stolen notes, shall receive £ 10 reward, or iu proportio'n to the amount recovered. Stolen from tbe person of a gentleman, at St. Ives Horse Fair, on the 12th instant, a gold hunting Watch, maker Wright, Lisle- street, Leicester square ; the watch was twisted from tho bow, which was left on the guard. Information to be given to Superintendent Brown, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bovs- strcd, Octobcr 14, Description of CHARLES SEILER, who has absconded, charged with burglary and attempt to murder at Notting- hill, Between 9 p. m. on the 13th and 0 a m. on the 1- ith inst.* the dwelling- house of William Davey, of Mottram St. Andrew, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, labourer, was burglariously brofc « 3> and enteied, a'- d tbe following property stolen therein : a' pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with white calico ; a blue corded cloth monkey Jacket, lined with black merino, two pockets outside, and one inside the left breast; two door Keys ; and four Half- sovereigns. Between 1 and 0 a. m. ou the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of John and George Holmeswood, farmers, at Hodmill Farm, in the parish of Eastbourne, was burglariously entered,- and the following property stolen therein : two pairs of men'ei nailed and pelted lace- up Half- boots, one pair nearly new, th « other old, one of them has been mended on the side of the uppers; u white Slop, buttoned down the front, and has been lengthened at the sleeves ; a loaf of Bread ; a shoulder of Lamb; and an unbleacbed calico Big, about 2 feet long, and has a patch on one side. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of fcge, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches higb, fresh complexion, very red BURGLARY AND HOUSE BEEAEIH6. During the night of the 15th instant, the house of Mr. hair and whiskers, proportionate figure ; dressed in old browt » Thomas Francis, Cefngwifed, was broken and entered, and the jacket with pockets at sides, old brown trousers, and black following articles stolen therein : a pair of women's kid elastic- billvcock hat, and is supposed to be wearing a pair of the side Boots ; a pair of cloth bU'ton^ d Boots ; a pair of women's stolen boots; he is a bricklayer. Sarah ' and an anchor, in Indian ink, oi one arm, supposed right, and dressed when last seen in black frock coat and vest, dark trousers, old boots or shoes, and light billycock hat with broad band ; he was in- valided from the 59th Regiment about six we< ks ago from Gosport, in the name of CHARLES SMITH, and has his dis charge with him iu that name. He may be found in some gaol, workhouse, or tramp ward. Information to be given at the Detective Department, Scotland- yard, London. — Metropolitan Police, A Division, Octobcr 14. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- Between 8 and 9 p. m. of the 10th instant, a Wheat Rick, standing in a field called the Pightel, on Dutchman's Farm, near the road leading from Eton to Datchet, the property of Mr. M. Wells, of Cippenham- court, Slough, was wilfully set on fire. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Super- intendent Dunham, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 14. About 7 p. m. on the night of the 11th instant the Farm Premises called Brisington Farm, at Ickford, Bucks, and con- sisting of a corn barn, stable, cart shed, containing farm imple- ments and cart harness, belonging to Mr. Henry James Fuller, farmer, were wilfully Bet on fire, and the whole consumed. Information to be given to Inspector Markham, Police Station, Brill, Bucks, Thame.— Boto- ilreet, October 14. jimcrow hat. 1 wo men and two womeu are suspected : one about 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, anc dressed in a white slop ; another about the Bame age, short, and wore a rough dark cloth coat; one of the women had sandy hair. During the night of the 15th instant, Lyons Farm, Sompting, was broken into, and stolen therein: a silver lever Watch, maker Bianche, Tunbridge Wells ; a silver Table Spoon, marked ' W. M. G.;' a silver Mustard Spoon; an electro- plated Cruet Stand ; an electro plated Mustard Pot Top ; a new metal Teapot; two plated Table Spoons ; Bix plated Tea Spoons ; a pilot pea Jacket; a small Russian leather Writing Case ; a pair of thick nailed Boots ; and a pair of gentleman's balmoral Boots. Information to be given to Inspector Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing. — Bow- street. Octobcr 19. FORGERY. Absconded from Chittlehampton, Devon, on the 16th mBtant: JOHN SHAPLAND, of Chittlehampton, veterinary, charged with forgery and uttering counterfeit coin, he is 60 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and complexion, stout built; dreBseu in light kerseymere coat and vest, light cord trousers, his clothes hang loosely on him, well known in North Devon. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Wood, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 10. aOBBZRTANDtARO^ T FROM On the afternoon of tbe 12th instant, Mary Ann Stock- well was stopped on the highway in, the parish of Burnham, Bucks, and robbed of a Half- crown, eight Sixpences, and a Between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of George Thorley, of Marton, near Macclesfield, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : an old- fashioned invisible green cloth Shooting Coat, four pockets outside, one inside left breast; a black cloth ditto, two pockets outside, ono inside left breast, and a button off behind ; a boy's black cloth Coat, Waistcoat, and Trousers; a black cloth Vest, a gtey ditto, a pair of black cloth Trousers, a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, have been soled; a pair of men's lace- up ditto, wifh fancy toe- caps; a striped magenta woollen Shirt, and a damask Tablecloth, nearly new. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Constabulary Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire,— Bow- ttrect, Octobcr 19. During the night of the 16th instant the residence of G. B. Henkey, Esq, Fetcham ParK, Surrey, was broken into and the following property stolen therein : 1 gold keyless hunting Watch, maker D.- nf, No. 24717, ' H. B. H. » on back. 1 gold link Chain. 3 gold Seals, one engraved ' Fetcham Park,' ihe other two, with armorial bearings. 3 gold Pencil Cases. 1 small gold Knife, engraved ' From Anna Maria to her dearest LOUIS*.' 4 Snuff boxes : 1 gold and isaamelled, 1 tortoiseshell, in- laid with gold, 1 embossed silver gilt, and one cameo and gold fish shell, engraved inside ' Andalusia to Uncle George.' 2 tops of Inkstands, silver. 1 small papier- mache Stamp Box, Mont Blanc on top enamelled and set in gold. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field in the borough of Middles- borough, on the night of the 16th instant, a grey Mule, 8 years old, 12 hands higb, and a little skin off right shoulder. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Sagger son, Borough Police Station, Middlesborougb.— Boio- ttreet, October 21. Found at Frimley, Surrey, on the 4th instant, and sup- posed to have been stolen, a dark brown horse Pony, about 11 hands high, aged, white star on forehead, saddle maiks, short tail, cropped ears, and hog main. Information to be given to Superintendent Newland, Surrey Constahu'ary, Farnham ; OS to Sergeant Hyde, Frimley.— Bow- street, October Iff. Stolen from a field at Sindlesham, in the county of Berks,, on the 13th instaut, a three years old bay blood Filly, with black points, aud has been recently docked, the property of Mr. E. C. Targett, of Reading. Information to be given to Superintendent Millard, Town Hall, Wokingham.— Bow- street, October 19. Stolen from a field near Newtown, on the night of the 16th instant, a bay mare Pony, about 12 hands higb 81 years. old white stripe on face, old saddle mark on hack, black mane and tail, and rather heavy in foal. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 19. Stolen from the borough of Maldon, on the 13th instant, the property of Mr. A. Lucking, pork butcher, two red and white weanels Calves. Information to be given to Head Con- stable King, Maldon, Essex.— Botc- street, October 19. Stolen from a meadow in the parish of Loughton on the 9th instant, six half- bred Lambs, branded on the near side with the letter ' N :' the meadow is situated near the side of the highway leading from Loughton to Fenny Stratford, the properly of Mr. James Nickson, of Loughton, farmer. Stolen on the night of the 11th instant, from the lanes at Leverstock Green, in the parish of St. Michael, Herts, the uronerty of Mr. Mark Wood, a brown Gelding, 15 bauds high, f. v S i. i 0f catt breed, white star on forehead, be about 5 years old, crupper worked, aud short rough mane. Information to oiven to Mr. Mark Wood, or to the Inspector of Police, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, who will pay all reasonable expenses. — Bow- s'teet, Octobcr 10. Supposed stolen from a field at Brenchley, on thft night cf 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. October 12. the 6th instant, a light bay riding Mare, 4 years old, 16 hands 3 inches high, blaok legs, white star on forehead, small whits spot on wither, tail cut square, in good condition ; supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 6 feet 7 iuches high ; dressed in cord trousers, twill slop, jacket over, and a cut down hat. A reward of £ 5 will be paid on the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, Oct. 16. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Absconded from Peasenhall on the 6th instant, charged with stealipg a Letter and £ 1 4s. in Money, the property of his master : GEORGE LEWIS, 24 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches hub, fair complexion, brown hair, dark hazel eyes, very small whiskers, and very thin moustache; dressed in a dark tweed coat, dark brown cloth waistcoat, light tweed trousers, white canvas shoes, and round top felt hat; he is a tailor, and has a relative in business on the City side of London bridge, also friends in Bury St. Edmunds. Information to be given to Superintendent Cressey, Yoxford, or to Police Constable Oliver, Peasenhall, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- strest, October 21. Description of DAVID OLLIVER, who is charged at Bradford with stealing a grey cloth Suit from his late employer, Miss Stott, of Eccleshill: 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, slender make, of clean and smart appearance ; he is a coachman ; dressed in a dark mixture cloth coat and vest, mixture cloth trousers with light stripe, blue and white scarf with breast- pin, fox head pattern in glass, elastic- side boots, and soft billycock hat. Description of EDWARD KESTIN, late of No. 183, Victoria park- road, South Hackney, charged with stealing £ 300 in £ 6 Bank of England Notes, from the City Bank, Threadneedie street: about 28 years of age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 in. high, fair hair aud complexion, light whiskers and moustache ( small), is in the habit of fingering his moustache, of gentlemanly appearance, and generally wears a light overcoat with velvet collar. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Detective Office, No. 26, Old Jewry.— Bow- street, October 21. Absconded from Midhurst, Sussex, ALBERT PIPER, a draper's assistant, charged with embezzling money, belonging to 1 is master, Samuel Parrish : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, thin nose, has a peculiarity in one eye, and is of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Bray, West Sussex Constabulary, Midhurst, who holds a warrant tor his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 21. Absconded from his lodgings at Bicester, on the 19th inst., stealing and taking away a black cloth Waistcoat, half worn, and a knitted flannel Shirt, the property of John Banks, of Bicester, a man of the following description : about 40 years of age, fresh complexion, brown hair, about 6 feet 4 inches high; dressed in a dark short coat and a brown billycock hat; he stated he was an inspector of telegraphs, and that he had come to superintend the repairs of the telegraph near Bicester. Stolen from a lodging- house at Buxton, on the 7th instant, a black silk Dress; a flannel Petticoat; a pair of white StockiDgs ; a pair of Drawers; and a white pocket Handker- chief. By a woman named JANE McALREY, who had been lodging at the house : about 30 years of age, middle size, ruddy face, five false teeth in front, top side ; dressed in a light dress, black cloth jacket, and red velvet bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Hudson, Constabulary Office, Chapel- en- le- Fiith, or to Sergeant Oldham, Police Office, Buxton, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, October 19. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. David Mudie, Saltley, about 10 a m. on the 16th instant, a gold Watch, gold face, No. 556 ; a gold albert Chain, a small gold Chain from a locket; two gold Rings, one with diamond in centre, the other has 1 E. R.' engraved upon it; a red cameo Brooch and Ear- rings to match, and five plated Tea Spoons, marked'E. R.' By the servant girl, who has absconded, 20 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and dressed in a green frock, grey jacket, and black crape bonnet. She is accompanied by a man, about 30 years of age, a tailor by trade. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bloxham, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street October 19. Description of JOHN ABBERLEY, of Newtown, near Abbotts Bromley, seaman, charged with stealing a reversible waterproof Overcoat, black outside and white inside ; a drab cloth Overcoat; also a grey cloth Ditto; on the 6th instant, at Church Hulm ; he is about 2- 3 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, fair complexion, no whiskers, high cheek bones, wide mouth and large teeth, has several anchors and ships on his arm9, and left Abbotts Bromley for London on the 8th instant; stated he was going there for the purpose of obtaining employment, and will most likely engage himself as seaman on board a ship Information to be given to Super- intendent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 19. Absconded from the borough of Brecon, JOHN GRIF- FITHS, a builder, charged with stealing a quantity of Goods belonging to his creditors. He is of the following description: about 42 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, Garibaldi beard and moustache, rather crooked in the shoulders; dressed in dark clothes and soft straight- peaked cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Lee, Brecon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 16. Description of a man who is charged with stealing a brown Jacket, moleskin Vest, pair of Trousers, checked Shirt, and a red Pocket- book from the Salt Works of Messrs. Parkes, of Wincham, at 6 a. m. on the 14th inst.; the property has been recovered : ahout 40 years of age, 6 ft. 9 ins. high, and stout make ; dressed in dark clothes, black felt hat, red neckerchief, monkey jacket, and carried a white slop tied about his shoulders. He is supposed to have lost the sole off one of his boots, and may be fouud about boats on canals. Information to be given to Superintendent Andrews, Lynn, near Warring- ton, Cheshire.— Borw- sa. net, October 16. Stolen on the 12th instant, from the schooner ' Messenger' of Yarmouth, while lying in the River Tyne, a silver Geneva Watch aud Guard, with two Keys attached : by a man wh) deserted from the ship, between 19 and 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, thin face, long black hair, and small tuft of hair on chin; he was last seen at Jarrow, in the connty of Durham, in a pawnbroker's shop, trying to pledge the watch. Information to be given to the Officer on Duty, River Police Station, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, October 16. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Windhill, on the 12th instant: two brown holland Aprons, one Btained with fruit, and has a broad hem at the bottom, the other has a narrow hem, buttons at the side, and has a small hole at one corner, a cnlico Chemise, a pair of white woollen Stockings, darned at the foot, all part worn, the property of Mary White. By a young woman, who lodged at the house, and absconded about 9 a. m. on the 12th instant, she is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, 6tout build, round face, and good looking; dressed in a crimson dress, plaid handkerchief, white stockings, supposed to be the stolen onos, elastic side boots, and black scarf shawl on her head. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Con- stabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, October 16. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained by false pretences from William yardley, grocer, Stourbridge, Goods and Money to the amount of £ 2, on the 28th ultimo : by a man who gave the name of WILLIAM GRIFFITHS, about GO years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark complexion, full face, and hair and whiskers turning giey ; dressed in a dark green velvet jacket and breeches, white leggings, and black jimcrow hat; he stated that he had been recently employed as a gamekeeper, but having had a great amcunt of property left him he had retired from service.
