MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 28th ultimo the body of a newly- born female Child, was found under one of the seats in the Pavilion Grounds, Brighton : a female, short and rather stout, dressed in a black cloak, black dress, and black bonnet with fall, was seen about 8' 45 the previous evening, sitting on the seat under which the Body was found. An ir quest was held on the 29th ultimo, when the Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 10 reward, on application to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, September 2. Description of a man, charged on a warrant with the murder of Patrick Desmond, at the Navy Arms public- house, King- street, Deptford, on the 23rd instant: JEREMIAH TOOMEY, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout built, fair hair and complexion, no whiskers, tuft on chin, pale face, high cheek bones, flat turn- up nose, down-' cast look, swaggering gait, and has a peculiar mode of raising1 his right forearm to the level of his elbow, when walking ; dressed in white dunk jicket and trousers, dark vest, black or blue worked cap, with peak of same and check band, militia bluchers. Has worked in iron mines at Durham, talked of returning there, is likely to be tramping towards the north, as be had previously talked of going there.— Metropolian Police, 1 R Divisi' n, Augus', 31. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. During the night of the 25th instant, a bam at the parish of Pennant, containing 2 tonS of Hay, 1 load of Barley, and 2} loads of Oats in the straw, was destroyed by fire. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from a gentleman on the race course, Warwick, a silver lever Watch, open face, No 12851 on dial and movement, maker W. Ehrhardt. A reward will be givea on the recovery of the Watch, and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person of a labourer, in the borough of Middlesborough- on Tees, on the night of the 4th instant, a ' Patent silver lever Watch, with gold figures, and had attached ' * silver Guard. Stolen from the person of John Lovett, builder, Crewe, 1 Between 12 midnight and 1 a. m. on the 5th instant, a gentle- Man s medium size gold Watch, gold seconds dial, engine- turned case, back gold, balance spring over, jewelled in three BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 3rd inst., the dwelling- house of James Leppard, of the parish of Lindfield, Sussex, was broken into, and stolen therein a very large old- fashioned silver Watch, both hands broken off, and without a glass; had a steel chain which was getting rusty ; a pair of plated Ear- rings, the wire of each broken ; a silver Brooch, shape similar to figure ' 8 ' with a red bar up the middle ; a pair of old Half- boots, bras) eyelets, one tongue torn nearly asunder, 3s. 6d. in Silver aad Copper ; a quantity of Food, and a tin Tea caddy containing a quarter ot a pound of Tea, supp> sed by tramps. Information to be given to the Chief Office, Lewes, or to Super- intendent William Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow street, September 7. During the night of the 4th instant the residence of Mr. Richard Mansell, shopkeeper, Brow Bank, parish of Whitting- ton, Salop, was broken and entered, and stolen therein a pair of girl's kid- top Boots with elastic sides, the elastic worn inside from brushing, and toecapped ; and a small leg Basket. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry ; or to Serjeant Thomas, Ellesmere, Salop— Boie- strect, Spt. 7. During the night of the 3rd instant, the house of the Rev. B. P. Pigott, in the parish of Ellesfield, near Basingstoke, Hants, was broken and entered, and stolen £ 5 16s., a number of ancient Coins, a small gold Pin, engraved on the back ' la Memory of Sir Henry Cosby.' Information to be given to Superintendent Kelleway, Hants Constabulary, Basingstoke.— — Bow- street, Sep'ember 7. Between 10 p. m. on the 2nd and 6 a. m. on the 3rd inst., the dwelling- house of Mis. Fitzsimmons, Manchester- street, Crewe, was broken and entered, and ljlb. of Soap, a paper Box, containing seven or eight reels of Cotton, some Tape, aad Thread, were stolen therein. Also, during the same time, the dwelling- house of David Tomlinson, Beech- street, Crewe, was broken ar. d entered, and a case of Drawing Instruments, with Parallel Rules, a small brass Microscope, a Square, and a pair of Callipers ( all of which have been recovered), and two blue monkey Jackets, much worn, a linen Jacket, and a pair of ela tic side Boots, stolen therein. Supposed by two young men : one about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, round features, whiskers shaved off; generally dressed in monkey jacket, barrigan trousers, and Scotch cap with pesk ; the other is about the same age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Inspector Wood, Police Office, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 7. Between 3 and 5 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelliog- house of the Rev. John Horne, Earley, near Reading, was broken into, and stolen therein : eleven Tea Spoons, five Table ditto, six Egg ditto, three Salt ditto, four Toddy Ladles, five large Fotks, five small ditto, and a Tea Kettle, all silver, with crest— a bugle horn, and ' J. 11 ' underneath ; a Teapot and a Sonp Ladle, silver, crest— a talbot's head, motto—' Ad finem spero ;' a silver Sugar Basin and Cream Jug, marked ' J. H. from J. & E. W. C., June 20th, 1864 ;' a gold Watch, maker Howden, Edinburgh; a long gold Chain ; plated Top and Stand of Butter Dish ; a plated Cruet. Stand; two Pocket Books, containing valuable Papers ; and an Alms Bag, con- taining £ 1 10s. 3d. Two men of the following description are suspected : one from 30 to 35 yeais of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, full face, and dark brown whiskers ; dressed in a long black cloth coat aud billycock hat turned up at the sides : the other about the same age, short aud stout, dark complexion and whiskers; dressed in a seedy dark suit, white cravat, and black billycock hat. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction o' the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Berkshire, Reading, or to Superintendent Millard, Wokingham, Berks.— Bow- street, September 4. The Museum at Grange was broken into on the night of the 1st instant, and a number of Coins and Medals stolen therein: silver CoiLs of the different reigns of the kings and queens of England, particularly Elizabeth, Charles, James, and the Georges ; silver Coins of various countries of Europe, Asia, and America ; also Grecian and Roman Coins, silver and copper ; a valuable collection of copper Coins from the Isle of Patmos, about 100 copper Tokens of the last cen- tury ; Coronation Medals of George the 4th, William the 4th, and Victoria; Medals of the Exhibition, Thames Tunnel, & c.; and several Russian copper Coins, the property of Amos Beardsley, Esq., surgeon. Information to be given to Super- intendent Cooper, Lancashire Constabulary, Ulverston.— Bow- street, September 4, During the night of the 1st instant, the dwelling- house of William Holdsworth, grocer, Thornbury, in tbe township of Calverley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a light mixture tweed loose Coat, two pockets outside, pne inside left breast; a Vest of same material, without collar ; a pair of light brown cloth Trousers, with very narrow white stripe, all partly worn; a child's black silk Jacket, trimmed with white lace, and fastens with one hook at the top ; 6s. in silver and copper. There was left behind a dark mixture cloth double- breasted vest, without collar, with tobacco and clay pipe in the pockets. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, S'ptemher 4. On the night of the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Taylor, Hill Cottage, in the borough of Wigan, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a blue cloth single- breasted cutaway Jacket, pockets outside with flaps, one pocket inside left breast, and one inside right lap, about half worn ; about 20s. iu Silver, amongst which was a Lion Sixpence black from age. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simm, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- streei, September 2. Between 9 a. m. and 7 pin. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Robert Brewster, at Edstone, was broken into, and stolen therein : two lady's white cotton Nightgowns, a Chemise, marked ' J. A. M.' on breast with red thread ; a pair of linen Sheets ; a white cotton Shirt; and an unbleached cotton Shirt, man's size, marked ' R. B.' in ink. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moorside.— Bow- street, September 2. Between 12 and 1 am. on the 1st instant, the Post Office in the parish of Dartford, was entered by forcing the back window, and stolen therein : about £ 2 18s. worth of Postage Stamps, of different values, from one penny to a shilling. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Police Station, Dartford, Kent.— Bow- street, September 2. Stolen on the 29th or 30ih ultimo, between 9 p. m. and 8 a. m., by means of breaking into the shop of Messrs. Thomp- son and Sons, Kirkhouse : two lolls of black twist Tobacco, one weighs about 2£ lbs., the other about 4 lbs. ; ten or eleven pairs of hand knitted light blue yarn Stockings, small men's size ; and about six pairs of men's Socks, assorted colours, and hand knitted. Two persons were concerned, and they left upon the premises an iron Hammer, 13 inches long, with the end of shaft or handle flattened so that it could be used as a screwdriver. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, September 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen from a meadow at Home- wood Farm, Ripley, Surrey, during the night of the 1st inst., the property of Francis Whitburn, a bay cob Horse, about 14 hands high, 5 years old, black mane and tail, the maue very rough, a small sore on the near shoulder, caused by the collar, and a small sore on the foreleg, caused by the belly band. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Barker, County Police Station, Guildford.— Bow street, September 7. Supposed stolen since the 5th ultimo, 31 yearling Wether Sheep, cross bred, the property of Mr. James Heading, Lodge Farm, Faringdon. A reward of £ 10 10s. will be given for their recovery, and conviction of the offender or offeuders, if stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Johnson, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- street, September 7. Stolen on the night of the 3rd instant, tour fat Sheep, half bred, Down and Leicester, marked L in red paint, the property of the executors of the lale Mr. Lacey, Tuddenham, Ipswich. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving information as shall secure the conviction of the offender or offenders Information to be given to the Police, Tuddenham, Ipswich.— Bow- street, September 7. Supposed stolen or strayed from a field at Brasted, Kent, a half bred cart Mire, 7 years old, 16 hands high, rusty colour, and rather plain, two hind shoes off Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Police Court, Sevenoiks.— Bow- street, September 7. Further information respecting the white Horse stolen from Martin, near Salisbury, Wilts, on the night of the 30th ultimo, and advertised in tbe Police Gazette of the 2nd instant: It has been traced aud recovered at Lytchett Maltravers, in Dorset, where it was found turned loose by the side of the road, the Saddle and Bridle stolen with it under the hedge, the horse had thrown its shots, and got so lame that it could travel no farther. It was in possession of a young man, who offered it for sale, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, full face, no beard or whiskers, black hair, cut short; dressed injimcrow hat, rough grey jacket, dark blue trousers ( too short for him), and elastic side boots. He has been traced to Weymouth, where he left on the 5th instant, for Dorchester or Blandford, and he is supposed to have no money.
