Notice.— It is requested that al) communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may Siesjr the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr, W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, london, W. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of ALEXANDER BAILLIE, who absconded from Cheltenham, charged with forgery : about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, black hair, cut short and parted behind, black whiskers and moustache, florid com- plexion, and nose railier red from drink ; generally dressed in a dark or velvet coat, straight back, which fi'a light on the hips, dark trousers, with straps, and Wellington boots ; he has the appearance of a military mau, walks flit footed, has friends residing at Buckerell Lodge, near tloniion, and at Tenby, and is known as CAPTAIN BAILLIE. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Angus', 6. A silver lever Watch, with gold Albert chain, a Guinea, a 5- franc Piece, a Whistle, a gold Case, with Dice, and a sprint; Key attached. A silver Geneva Watch, with crystal glass, a gold link pattern Chain, with a small silver Coin of Charles II, and a small Knife attached. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, near the Lion Mansion, Brighton, about 10 30 p. m. on the 7th instant, a goM- chased Watch, with gold dial plate, maker Robson Miller, Newcastle- on- Tyne, No. 9481. by a tall, fashionably dressed woman, very pale. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 10. Stolen between 1 and 4 a. m. on the 4th instant, from the person of Mr. Uriah Langley, stone merchant, of Hiltop, Cartworth, near Huddersfield : 1G £ 5 Bank Notes, £ 4 10s. in Gold and 0 or 7 Shillings iu Silver, an English silver lever Watch, engine turned ca « e, cream coloured dial, has engraved on the plate ' Joah Tyas, Moldgreen, Huddersfield,' had attached a common silver Guard ; a felt Hat, a walking Stick, with a dog's head cut on it, two Pocket Books, one bound in slate coloured paper, which contained the notes, the other a black leather one, which contained a quantity of Bills, addressed to Mr. Langley. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, or to Inspector Nunn, West Riding Constabulary, Holmfirth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from the person at Dnnwich Fair, on the night of the 26th ultimo, a silver lever Watch, maker ' Canova,' No. 12390, and gold alberr, Chain, with gold Key, and black stone, with white cross on it. a gold Locket, one 18s. ROBBEBY AND LARCEIY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 11 p. m. on the night of the 4th instant, from the person of a gentleman iu the borough of Macclesfield, a patent lever silver Watch, seconds hand No. 4100, had at- tached a gold secret link Albert Cham. Information to be given to Mr. James Etchells, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, August 10. Stolen from the p rson of gentlemen at Lewes Races : On the 7th instant, a silver- case stop Watch, opens at the back, On the 8th instant, a silver Watch, maker French, has a crest and motto, ' Misens Auxilium fero,' engraved at back of case. Information to ho given to Superintendent Jenner, Lewes.— Boa- street, August 10. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Macclesfield, on the night of the 5th instant, a leather Bag, containing £ 148, consisting of two £ 20 Bank of England Notes, a Cheque for £ 28 10s. on the Goole Bank, and the remainder in Gold and £ 6 country Notes, and a £ 1 Scotch Note. £ 10 10s. reward will be paid to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amou t recovered. Stolen from the person at Brighton Races, on the 4th, 6th, and 6th instant:— A small old- fashioned double- case gold Watch. An old- fashioned siugle case vertical gold Watch, winds up in tbe face. A gold Geneva Watch, with white dial, mended on the outside case jewelled in 13 holes. A gold lever Watch, f plate, engiue turned. A gold Geneva Watch, No. 1035, jewelled in 13 holes, no gold dome, engraved cases. The party has been apprehended for stealing this watch, and committed for trial, but. the watch has not yet neen recovered. A large old- fashioned double- case Bilver Watch, ' James Sawyer,' engraved on the inner case ; a silver Albert Chain, with several silver Coins aud Keys attached. An old fashioned silver hunting Watch, capped and jewelled, maker Lashmar, Brighton. A silver lever Watch maker Freeman, No. 6074. A silver Geneva Watch, open face. No. 87027, stamped on the case, a small link gold Albert Chain attached. An old- fashioned silver Watch, maker Hatwood, Lewes, supposed No 6600. A medium size silver Geneva Watch, with silver Albert Chain, silver Key, and gold Key attached. A silver hunting Watch, maker Christie, Duke- street, London, ' S. J, H.' engraved on the outside case, A crystal silver lever Watch, double case, maker Birwise, London, No. 0422. Between 10' 30 n. m. and 1 p. m. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Draper, at Addlestone, Surrey, was forcibly entered, and the following property stolen therein ; 10 or 11 Sovereigns, 1 £ o note, four Table Spoons, two marked ' T. M. P.' in a flourish ; six Tea ditto, a pair of Sugar Tongs, and a Cream Jug, much bruised, same initials; two Salt Spoons, all silver ; a silver hunting Watch, formerly had a small glass on outer case, hut a smooth shilling has been fitted in its place, ' I. D' engraved on number plate ; an old- fashioned open face silver Watch, a gold Brooch with blue forget- me- not, and a mourning Ring. ' Catherine Tyler' engraved thereon. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow street, Aug. 10. Between the hours of 10 p m. and 0 a. m., on the 8th instant, the dwelling house of Trayton Garr, at Isfield, Sussex, was entered, and ttie following property stolen therein : a moleskin shooting Jacket, pockets inside ; a pair of cord Trousers ( men's size) ; « brown alpaca Dre9s ; a half- mourning ditto ( small pattern); a dark lavender ditto ; a woollen scarf Shawl ( light drab), has been mended ; a black scarf ditto ; a white cotton Shirt, a Night- gown, and a silk Handkerchief, with red stripes ( very old). Supposed to bo committed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Peacock, ! Uckfield, the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or any Police Station in East Sussex— Uoui- street, Augu ; t 10. On the 8th instant a house was broken into at Welshpool, and the following articles stolen, viz, eleven Tea Spoons, a pair of Sugar Tongs marked ' C. J. G.,' and a soft| Sugar Spoon, marked ' A. C. F' all silver. Information to be given to Acting Superintendent, Stafford, Welshpool, Montgomery- shire.— Bow- street, August 10. Between the hours of 11 a . m. and 12 noon, on the 6th instant, a dwelling- house was entered in Bolton, and the follow- ing property stolen therein :— A lady's gold skeleton lever Watch, No. 34990, maker John Monk, Bolton; had attached a gold Guard, round link9, tnd diamond- cut pattern, a gold Seal and a gold Key, each set with a yellow stone. An old silver lever Watch. An old pinchbeck Watch. A light silver Guard. A large gold Bn, och, eet with topaz stone. A gold- plated Brooch, serpent pattern. Four gold Studs. Five foreign stiver Coins. A foreign gold Coin, similar to a spadeace guinea. A flat glasB spirit Guage, 14 inch s long. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or in proportion thereto, on application to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton — Bow- street, August 10. Between 3 and 8 p. m., on the 8th instant, the house of Edward Hughes, in the parish of Llanrhaiadr, was broken into and the following property stolen therein, viz. : a blue cloth Waistcoat, pair of coid Trousers, man's size, and a pair of Watertight Boots, nearly new. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, or to Polica Constable Rowlands, Llanrhaiadr, via Oswestry,— Bow- street, August 10. A man of the following description is suspected of breaking into the cottage of John Charles, at Moreton, as advertised in the Police G- zette of the 8th instant : * bout 26 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, dark complexion hair, and ( smal>) whiskers and dressed in a Scotch cap, two pieces of ribbon behind and a crown in front with a likeness of the Emperor of the French on it, black cloth coat and trouser* fitting ight round the legs like a grooms, Jand rather gieasy ; states he had been in France, and can speak French, and was a native of Thrumpton, near Retford. He left Corby by 2 68 p. m. train for Grantham on the day ef the robbery, and was carrying two large bundles wrapped in check hondkerchiefs. He offered a pair of boots for sale at Corby, suppo- ed the stolen ones. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincoln- shire.— Bow- street, Aug. 10. - Stolen between 7 a. m. and 0 pm. on the 6th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the cottage of John Charles, a labourer, at Morton, near Bourn : a black cloth Coat, nearly new, black cloth buttons down the front, two buttons behind, two pockets outs'de with flaps over them, short laps, and lined with alpaca ; a black cloth Vest, black cloth buttons, lined with yellow twill, black gl- zed calico b-. ck, two outside pockets ; a brown cloth Vest, cloth buttons, two outside pockets, lined with swansdown, and slate coloured jean ba k ; a pair of woollen cord Trousers, email cord, metal buttons, full fall, lined with swansdown, and drab jean pockets ; a short white Slop, opens down the front, white metal buttons, band round the bottom, pocket on right outside; a pair of light half Boots, patent leather up the front, brass eyelet- holes, and sprigged ; a brown velveteen Coat, old- fashioned, brass buttons, with a horse on them, two buttons on each sleeve, two pockets outside, and two iuside; a double- breasted fustian Vest, two rorfs of white pearl buttons, drabbet back, and lined with swansdown ; and about 6 or 6 lbs. of co , k- d Bacon. Between 8 a. m. and 4 p. m. the 31sl ultimo, the dwelling- honsa of Matthew Wood, of Burneston Grange, Bedale, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a white calico Shirt, tutu's size, corners of neck and wristbands rounded off, pUiu front, anil china buttons ; a pair of light brown worsted Stockings, with white tops, and an old- fashioned copper penny Piece, with ' P. K. S.' on one side, and ' K.' on the other side ; supposed by iramps. Inform- tion to be given to Inspector Waliusley, L- yburn, or to Inspector Metcalfe, North Riding Constabulary, Wash, near Ripon, Yorkshire.— Eos- street, August 5. Between Sam. anil 1 p. m. ou the 29th ultimo, the dwelling house of Thomas Bryder, in the parish of Petworth, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, pockets outside two waistcoats, one without collar, a pair ot brown cloth striped Trousers, a bordered silk Handkerchief, a woman's Nightdress, and a pair of elastic- side Boots. Two tramps were seen in the neighbourhood the morniug of the robbery, they are from 20 to it years of age ; dressed in dark coats and caps ; the coat and nightdress was offered for sale at Guildford by a tramp, on the 30th ultimo.
