IVotiee.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to ' the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretory of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY ANB LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman, while in the Bridge Inn Hotel, in the borough of Richmond, a silver lever Watch, maker M. Smith, West Hartlepool, No. 27021. Information to be given to Superintendent Peacock, Richmond, Yorkshire. - Boa- street, July 8. 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' S.' 1 silver Knife and Fork, marked ' B. C.' 1 silver Mustard Spoon, marked ' D.' 1 silver Vinaigrette., Also the silver contents of a working case, Knife, Pencil, and Thimble. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- street, July 8. Between 11 p. m. and 6 a. m. of the 30th ult., the dwelling- house of H. Youngman, Esq , of Wattisfield, was broken into, and stolen therein : a dark cloth frock Coat, two pockets out- side, one inside breast ditto, binding very much worn ; an old brown cloth ditto ditto, a dark tweed ditto ditto, nearly new ; a thin dark cloth Coat, two pockets behind; a speckled colour tweed Vest; a gig Umbrella, faded green covering, spring in the handle; a Bmall Umbrella, green covering ; three large Knives and Forks, dark bone handles, one brass rivet through each, maker's name ' Groom' on each knife; three small Knives and Forks, very much worn ; and a large piece of old green Baize. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Durrant, Ixworth Police Station, or to Police Con- stable Wray, Wattisfield, Botesdale, West Suffolk.— Bow- ttrcet, July 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of JAMES RANDLESON, charged with having, on the 7th instant, feloniously broken and entered the Office, of the Carlisle Land and Building Society, Fisher street, Carlisle : he is 35 years of sge, 5 feet 10 inches high, light hair, fair complexion, small featured, and pale looking ; by trade a painter and glazier, but has been following the trade of a butcher the last two or three years ; dressed ia dirty grey clothes and billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief | Constable Bent, Police Office, Carlisle, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- s'reet, July 13. Between 8 a. m. an^ 1 p m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Charles Burrows, at Salford, Warwickshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of woman's leather Bjots, lace- up the sides, nearly new, three pairs of men's blue cotton Stockings, a red cotton Handkerchief, with white spots, a pound of Bacon, and 13s. 6d. in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Dembar, Alcester, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, July 8. On the morning of the 6th instant, Cumberland House, Butterley, Ripley, was burglariously enteied, and the following articles stolen therein : a dark brown tweed Coat, interwoven with a lighter mixture ; a brown Brighton Coat, pocket out- side, no lappels ; a black frock Coat, well worn ( since found in plantation) ; a black cloth Coat, double- breasted, one pocket in breast, and two in laps behind ; a pair of men's elastic Boots, nearly new ; a dark alpaca Umbrella ; a grey cloth stable Jacket and Vest ( vest found in plantation with coat) ; two check Scarfs, one with pink flowers; two gold Pins, one with a fox's head of a dark colour ; a dark blue monkey Jacket; and a black cloth frock Coat, with broad collar. A stick, ash plant, a small bundle of eatables, viz., a lump of ham, a piece of plum bread, a lump of butter, and two small pieces of bread tied up in a piece of dirty white calico, were left by the garden wall; the stick has a lot of nicks cut in it, and is supposed, with the bundle, to belong to some tramp or tramps. Information to be given to Inspector Mosley, Police Station, Ripley ; to Superintendent Rust, Constabulary Office, Heanor, or at any of the Derbyshire County Police Stations. — Boio- street, July 8. During tbe night of the 5th instant, the house of Mr. Cheetham, of Dukinfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth swinger Coat, with two pockets outside tbe skirt, and pockets inside the breast ; a black cloth Vest, full front, buttons up to the neck, with a pocket inside the left breast. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Little, Hyde, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 8. Stolen by means of skeleton keys, from No. 1, Gloucester- road, Warwick Town, the property of the Rev. W. P. Dothie : 1 gold Geneva W atch and Key. 1 gold Ring, with emeralds and pearls. 1 gold Ring, with pearls and a ruby, one pearl lost. • _ 1 gold Shawl Brooch, dark stone set in gold. 1 silver Gravy Spoon, marked ' S. Stolen on the 20tli ultimo, from the roadside, in the parish of Hard wick, a dark brown nag mare, aged, thin neck, drooping ears and in very low condition, the property of Mr. Joseph Ivatts, of Aylesbury. Information to be given to Superintendent Denson, Aylesbury.— Bow- street, July 13. Stolen from a field at the Firs, Great Malvern, on the 16th ultimo, a dark brown mare Pony, aged, about 14 hands high, blind, and square tail reaching nearly to the hocks, the property of Mr. Betteridge. Information to be given to Super- intendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 13. Stolen from a field at Cleobury Mortimer, on the 28th ultimo, a black Mare Pony, about 13 hands high, aged, switch tail, round punch mark through left ear, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Thomas Bamford, of Cleobury Mortimer, farmer. Information to be given to Sergeant Collis, Police Station, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, July 13. Stolen from Chew Magna, near Bristol ( supposed by gip- sies) on the 28th ultimo, an aged dark hrown mare Pony, about 13 hands high, old rusty coat not off, white star in forehead, about 10 years old, and hrauded on the off side ( on the withers) with a diamond. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the Pony and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Temple Cloud, near Bristol.— Bou>- street, July 13. Description of NEHEMIAH SMITH, a gipsy, in custody on a charge of stealing a Donkey, he is 78 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, blind with one eye, grey hair ; dressed in low crowned naples. hat, a brown plaid jicket, cord breeches, and cashmere leggings, and strong lace- up boots ; he is well known as a gipsy horse stealer. Information to be given to Inspector Palmer, Police Station, Longford, near Coventry.— Bow- street, July 10. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant, from off the highway in the parish of Cwmdu, Breconshire, a dark brown mare Pony, about 1L years old, about 14 hands high, in good condition, blind of both eyes, has a saddle mark, and a ring of white round one of the fore legs, very fine sleek coat, long tail, the end of which has been recently cut. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Crickhowell, Breconshire.— Bow- slreet, July 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Absconded onj the 1st instant, from the Lion and French Horn public- house, Pollen- street, St. George's, embezzling £ 13: the potman, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair com- plexion and sandy whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes and high hat.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 13. Stolen on the 7th instant, from the Thistle and Crown public- house, St. Martin's- lane, 20s. by a lad, 16 years of age, short, fair complexion, brown hair, a cast in one eye, and dressed in blue jacket. — Metropolitan Police, F Division, July 13. Stolen between 27th ultimo and 4th instant, from an unoc- cupied house in Church- street, Kingsland, 60 feet of lead Pipe, 2 brass Taps, 6 Bells, 12 brass Knobs, 4 gas Burners, 1 closet Tap, 1 iron Boiler: by a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, aquiline nose ; dressed iu brown coat, black stripe troustrs, and white billycock bat .— Metropolitan Police, N Division, July 13. Absconded on the 5th instant, from Ruislip, embezzling £ 9 : a man, 28 years of age. 6 feet 6 inches high ; dark com- plexion, hair, and eyas, whiskers shaved off, slightly pock- marked ; dressed in light trou- ers. dark fur cap, and watertight boots.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, July 13. Stolen on the 4th instant, a Pony and Cart, & c.: Pony dark brown, cow hocked, larg.' belly, Harness silver plated ; Cart painted dark green with ' Newport Pagnell' on it, and Collin's patent axles. Also a quantity of Grocery from 67, High- street, Shoreditch, by the traveller, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in dark frock coat, light vest and trousers, high hat and button boots. Supposed to be in company with a man, 20 years of age, light brown shooting coat, dark vest and trousers, and low crowned hat. Likely to be travelling the country.— Metropo- litan Police, H Division, July 13. Obtained on the 7th instant, from a Livery Stable Keeper at Lower Clapton, a Horse, Harness, and Gig ; Horse bay Mare ( aged), 13 hands hiih, hair grazed on off knee, and in good condition ; Harness, silver plated with curb bit; Gig painted dark, picked with light, blue lining, out of repair, and plated lamps at sides : by a man who hired the same for a day!; 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, full face ; dressed iu dark mixture coat, pockets on hips, light trousers, stripe down the sides, and low broad brim hat.— Metro- politan Police, N Division, July 13. Description of BENJAMIN HARRINGTON, alias POOR BEN, a collier, who is charged with stealing, on the 5th instaot, a tame Duck and thr; e Fowl?, the property of William Doody, of the Old Lodge : he is p' out 48 or 50 years of age, fi leet 10 inches or C feet h. fe', dark hair and whiskers turning grey, and dressed in a long black cloth jacket, light trousers and vest, black jimcrow hat. and light lace- up boots, all much worn ; formerly resided in John- street, Kate's- hill, near Dudley, and is well known in that neighbour- hood by the name of Poor Ben. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Ser- geant Turner, St. George's, near Wellington, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 10. Description of MARY FRY, charged with stealing, at Llanvaches, near Newport, on the 3rd instant, a white corded Skirt, a pair of lavender coloured silk Gloves, a woman's Collar, and a pair of Cuffs, the property of Sarah Harrhy ; she is also further charged with obtaining by false pretences from Cecilia Jenkins, of the above parish, three women's worsted Jackets, three black dress Caps, two men's red, puce, and white worsted Cravats, 5 yards of magenta Ribbon, 2 yards of black ditto, and 2 yards of Darrow red ditto, for the tair : about 22 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout figure, dark hair, very much sunburnt, un'l one of her eyes appeared weak ; dressed when she Ufc in a new cotton frock which has never been washed, white ground with small red spots or stars, black shawl, black straw hat trimmed with black velvet, magenta scarf, and red ribbon in her hair. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office Usk ; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Pontypool ; or to Inspector Sheppard, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Newport, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- tt. July 10. Stolen from Easingwold, on the 7th instant: a pair of cotton cord Trousers, several small holes at the bottom of the slops, two brace buttons off behind, and recently washed : by a man, 3fi years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and a mark on the right side from a cancer; dressed in a white slop, old cloth trousers, with band, very much patched and sewn, and black hard felt hat. Information to be given to Inspector James, Easingwold, or to Superinten- dent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, Yorkshire. — Bow- itreet, July 10. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from No. 8, Rye- lane, Peckham, stealing £ 1 3s.: a lad, 17 years of age, 4 feet 2 inches higb, fair complexion, light hair ;* dressed in blue monkey jacket, dark mixture trouseis, low shoes, and blue cap.— Met- ropolitan Police, P Division, July 10. Stolen during the night of the 4th instant, from the house of Mr. Richard Nutt, farmer, Spaldington Outsides, near Howden : an old- fashioned silver Watch, maker S. Roberts, Boston, No. 182; one Half- sovereign in Gold; and a Half- crown in Silver ; the properly of Thomas Parker. By a man, of the following description, who had been employed on the farm about three weeks, and on the night in question slept with Parker, and absconded sometime duiing the night with the Watch and Money, he is about 37 or 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh" complexion, stout figure, ginger hair, whiskers shaved off, beard under chin rather darker than his hair ; will be dressed either in black pilot coat, black cloth waistcoat, black cloth trousers, black silk tie, and black billy- cock hat, or drab jacket, rough black waistcoat, drab corduroy trousers, and black silk tie. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, East Riding Constabulary, Howden, Yorkshire.— Bow- slreet, July 10. Absconded on the 29th ultimo, from No. 250, Fulham- road, embezzling about £ 11 : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, sandy whiskers and moustache, shaved uuder the chin ; dressed in light grey su't and low- crowned hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, Ju'y 10. Absconded on the 22nd ultimo, from No. 47, Greek- street, 2 t O h I C E G A Z E T T E. July 13. St. Ann's, embezzling £ 3 10s., a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, da. k complexion, i air, ami eyes, large nose, dressed in brown frock overcoat, dark trousers and vest, and black cloth deerstalker hat. - Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 10. Description of WILLIAM PIXLEY, a native of Wash- ingborough, who ahscoudtd from Maiket Rasen on the 25th ultimo, charged with stealinj fioin the dwelling- house of Charles Blakey, of Market Rasen, beerhouse- keeper, a pair of Bedford cutd Br.- eches and Leggings, and a short white Slop ( since recovered): lie is 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, light brown hair, sandy whiskers meeting nnder the chin, large mark on back of right wrist, and dressed in a white slop, dark cord trousers, and black billycock hat; be carried a bundle in a long blue slop ; has been a suldier in the Royal Marines, Plymouth Division. Information to be given to Superintendent Barsby, Police Station, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July lO Description of a man, charged with stealing a silver Geneva hunting Watch, No. on case ' 35ii0,' and 9s. in Silver, from the per; ou of Mathew Sheppard, whilst asleep in a shed in the parish of Undy, on the night of the 4th instant: he is a tramping labourer, from 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout made, dark complexion, and dark tuft of hair on ctiiu ; dressed in a da k rough coat, a white slop worn for a shirt, cord trousers, with a paicli of dark cloth on one or both knees, old boots, cut to ease the feet, and dark cloth cap, all very dirty. He was traced to Bristol, where he stated he should seek work on the Cheddar Valley Railway, now being constructed. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, U.- k; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouthshire, who will pay all reasonable expenses on his apprehension.— Bom- street, July 10 Description of a man who ahsconded from Ashton- under- Lyne, charged with stealing £ 90 in Gold and Silver, which was entrusted to him for the purpose of taking to the Bank : about 27 or 28 years of age, 5 tee' 7 or 8 inches high, red curly hair, small Sindy whiskers, fresh looking, and proportionate make ; dressed when he absconded in a white linen slop, black cloth swinger coat over it, and light coloured cloth cap with peak. Any person apprehending the above person and re- covering the money will be handsomely rewarded. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Dalgleish, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 8. Description of JAMES BELSEY. a boilermaker, charged with stealing at Preston, near Faversham, Kent, a gold Albert, cable pattern ; a small gold Seal, and Key attached ; two gold scart Pius, one with coral, the other with white stone : a nearly new black cloth Jacket, p ckers on hips ; a new pilot cloth Jacket; a pair of black cloth Trousers; a pair of blue mixture Trousers, with grey btripea d wn sides, quite new ; a pair of dark mixture Trousers ; a double breasteu woollen V st, with small blue spots ; a black cloth Vest; a large Overcoat ; and a large dark scarlet carpet Bag : he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale face, very dark curly hair, no whiskers, well built, walks erect, has been IU the Army. In- formation to he given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bou>- slreet, July 8. Stolen on the - 6th instant: a gold Bracelet, set with cornelian stones; a gold Bracelet, chain pattern ; a gold breast Pin, head, a nusget of gold ; a silver lever Watch ; a silver verge hunting W^ tch ; a lady's gold Neckchain, old- fashioned ; a lady's gold Ri> g, set with a square red stone in centre, a green stone on each side ; a gentleman's gold Rin_', set with black stone with white streak ; an old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, on tour claws; and a gold breast Pin, with blue enamelled star on the faca. By two men : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slender make, fresh complexion, sandy hair, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in a suit of black, and high- crowned hat. Abscond> d, charged with stealing Wearing Apparel, on the 19ih ultimo, from Penygroes, Carnarvonshire, most of which has been recovered, having been sold by tiie under- mentioned person at Carnarvon, but the following articles have not been recovered: a yellow Muffler, with dark spots and blue border; a mauve check flannel Shirt, with diamond- shaped wristbands ; and a black cloth Coat, with white spots all over, single- breasted, three horn buttons in front, and three pockets outside: ROBERT FOY stonemason, a native of Dublin, about 40 years ot age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, reddish face, dark brown hair ( mixed with grey) and whiskers rather long, 1 ooks on the ground when walking ; dressed when last seen in a dark cloth coat, fustian waistcoat, cord trousers, and black cap with large crown, or may be * earing a black stitched hat and the stolen ai tides ; he has been working at Llanael- haiarn, Carnarvonshire. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Carnarvon.— Bow- street, July 8. ALFRED GRAY, Bedminster, Bristol, labourer, 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, fresh face, dark browu hair, hazel eyes, has a blue compaos on tight uun. Committed four 21 days. > THOMAS WILLIAMS, Longton, labourer at a foundry, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, freah, tine face, light curly hair, blue tyes, high forehead, has a puncture mark at inside co ner of right eye ; a good scholar. Committed for 14 days. GEORGE ROBERTS, of Cherry- Burton, Beverley, York- shire, 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, lull fresh ftice, light hair, blue eyes, wound mark on left thigh. Committed for 12 days. ELIZABETH TANNER, London, servant, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, long face, remarkably heavily pockpitted, light hair, large grey eyes, and has the letters ET. B. TANNER in blue ink at top of left arm. Committed tor 10 diys. ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, Moor street, Birmingham, small paper- box maker, 24 years of age, 6 feet 3i inches high, light brown hair, sallow complexion, several deep pookmarks on left side of her forehead. Committed for 7 days. i It is supposed that they have committed offences elsewhere. Information to be given to Serjeant Strettord, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— tiou.- street, July 13. Description of a sailor who gives the name of GEORGE BARRATT, who was on the 10th instant committed to North- allerton Gaol for six months, on a charge of robbing a ship, Ho is about 23 years of age, 6 feet C inches high, tresh com- plexion, light long hair, sandy whiskers meeting under chin, moustache, and appears not to have ever been shaved. States he belongs to Hull. Dressed in a pair of small plain cloth trousers, blue guernsey, and half Wellington boots. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Saggerson, Middleaborough. — Bow- street, July 13.
