Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may heer the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. . Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should he made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast Sie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Obtained on the 26th ultimo, from 77, Southampton- row, by meens of a forged order, two new Silver Plated Cornets, maker ' Distin, Nos. 9762 and 9668.' By a man 26 years of age, 6 feet high, Blim built, sallow complexion, sandy hair and whis- kers ; dressed in black overcoat and dark striped trousers, shabby. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 1. ROBBERY AND LARCEKY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of John Howland, at Boughton : a silver hunting Watch, the cases worn rather smooth, a silver Guard, a common Key, a small common Seal and a small foreign Coin attached. By a man called " GEORGE," about 23 yesrs of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high ; a labourer, full face, rather stout, tew whiskers, and light hair ; dressed in cord trousers, blue shirt, blue guernsey, and black cap, may have a dirty white slop over the guernsey. Is in company with a labourer, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, long hair and whiskers, dressed in white slop and cord trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Bassett, Preston next Faversham.— Bow- street, June 1. Stolen from the person of Joseph Davies, at the Craven Arms Hotel, on the 29th ultimo, an old black leather Purse, brass edging, a small piece torn out where it had been fastened with elastic, containing £ 6 10s. in Gold, and about 30s. in Silver. By a trair. p of the following description : 15 years of gge, about 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair complexion, hair rather long, and dressed in grey alpaca jacket, dark cord trousers, similar to those worn by railway porters, and dark cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Lear, Craven, Salop.— Bow- street, June 1. Stolen between 10 and 11 p. m. on the 24th inst., from the person of a gentleman, whilst passing from Cross- lane, Salford, to Tanner's- lane, Pendleton, a gold chronometer Watch, engine- turneu^ Ns, No. 21236, J. H.— 18, 35 ; also a gold Guard, which was attached to the watch, at the end of the guard is the figure of a horse, with stone let in at bottom. £ 5 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Cardiff, on the night of the 25th instant, a gold lever Watch, with ' Rev. David Parry,' engraved on the inside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Police Station, Cardiff.— Bow- street, May 27. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 26th ultimo, the cottage of T. Lewis, labaurer, of Buttington, was broken into and a double- breasted moleskin Waistcoat, a pair of boy's brown mixture cloth Trousers, broken on one knee, and a gold Ring stolen therein, the latter has been recovered ( sold at Shrewsbury). By a young man from 18 to 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, light sandy hair; was dressed in a black jimcrow hat, white slop, waistcoat and trousers, wore elastic side boots, one of the toes slit to ease it; he had the ap- pearance of a militia man. Information to be given to Police Constable Richards, Buttington, or to Sergeant Stretford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, June 1. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of P. Birkley, silveismith, Commercial- street, NewpOit( MonI mouthshire), was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 14 silver Geneva Watches, NOB. 7027, 7628, 7629, 8563, 8564, 8565, 761-% 7616, 7617, 29095, 29696, 29697, 30018, and 30019. • 1 silver hunting Geneva Watch, with silver dial. 1 silver hunting Geneva Watch, No. 22870 or 1K045. 6 or 6 small Geneva Watches. 1 English silver lever Watch, maker P. Birkley, New- port. 8 silver lever Watches, not quite new. 1 gold ij- plate hunting lever Wa'ch, with gold dial. 2 gold Geneva Watches, with gold dial; one is a small size and the other a large one. 9 gold guard Chains, stamped 9 or 10 carat. 8 gold albert Chains, same stamp. 15 silver guard Chains. 7 plated albert Chains. 10 pairs of gold Ear rings. 2 pairs of gold collar Studs. 1 pair of gold Sleeve- links. 1 pair of silver ditto. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Huxtable, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, June 1. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. F. H. Sutton, Theddingworth, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : A Musical Box, with a singing bird, tortoiseshell, with gilt top. A Miniature of Dudley, Lord Leicester. A Miuiature, portrait of a gentleman, signed ' G. S.' A Seal, with ( Floreat Etona) gold mounted. A Seal, of agate ( Floreat Etona) silver mounted. A Seal, with horee drinking at a fountain, engraved, gold mounted. A Ring, gold, with head of Bacchus, engraved. A Ring, of black enamel, with Lapis. A Ring, gold, with antique engraving. A Ring, formed by two figures, with a carbuncle. A silver gilt book Cover, with dark green ? elvet, book torn out. A few old Coins, one gold, value 20s. of Charles I, another one, same value, of James I. A small silver Egg, for scent. A small metal Ornament of Algerian Work, with a Chain Bet with blue and red 6tones, 2 pairs of dark tweed Trousers, fly fronts. A black cloth Vest, with silk braid. A lavender coloured Overcoat, nearly new. A gold Rirg, square st nes on each side, turns upon a swivel, a flash of lightning engraved on one side, and ' In mare mieat' on the other. 2 Groats of the reign of Henry VI, supposed silver. A pair of gentleman's old Balmoral Boots, brass eyelet- holes, have been soled, and are worn down at the toes. Two men of the following description are suspected : one about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, whiskers ( supposed dark) meeting under the chin ; dressed in long dark cloth coat, dark troUBers and vest, and black billycock hat. The other about 3C years of age, not quite so tall, stout make, supposed brown whiskers ; dressed in long dark frock coat, dark trousers and vest, and dark cloth cap. They stated they were engine fitters, had walked from Liverpool, and were going to Wolverton to try to get work, that they were hard- up, did not want to go on the regular roads, and inquired for the by- roads ; they had the appe iiance of mechanics, and at other times stated that they came from Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Iliffe, Constabulary Station, Market Harboro', Leicestershire.— Boio- st., May 29. Between 12 midnight and 4 a. m. on the 27th instant, the residence of N. N. Dyer, Esq., at Bredon, Worcestershire, was broken into, and the undermentioned silver articles stolen therein : twenty- four Dessert Spoons, eighteen large Forks, eighteen small ditto, a Gravy Spoon, and a Mustard ditto, all marked ' N. D. six Salt Spoons, marked ' H. P. five Table ditto ; twelve Tea ditto ; a Butter Knife ; a Fish ditto ; two Sauce Ladles; a Soup ditto; and a quart Tankard, marked ' J. H. P. also a gold Pencilcase, about 3 inches long, £ 18 or £ 20 in gold and silver Money, and several gold Rings and Nuggets. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Harris, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 29. During the afternoon of the 2Cth instant, the cottage of John Lewis, labourer, of Old- road, Buttington, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein: a Purse, con- fining a broken gold Ring; a double- breasted moleskin Vest, with jean back ; a pair of old brown mixture cloth Trousers, worn out at one knee, and with raised seams; and some Bread, Butter, and Sugar. Supposed by a tramp. In- formation to be given to Police Constable Richards, Buttington, or to Sergeant Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Mav 29. During the night of the 26th instant, the rectory at Llan- dinam was broken into, and tho following articles of silver Plate stolen therein : an old- fashioned pint Cup, with one handle ; a half- pint ditto, same pattern ; a Punch Bowl, which holds about a quart; four Table Spoons, one marked ' T. C.,' one ' E. W.,' the other two old and much worn ; six Tea Spoons, some marked ' J. J.,' others ' T. C.;' a small Ladle ; a Butter Knife ; and a Salt Spoon. £ 10 reward will be paid for any information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the shop window of John Chadwick, of Turton, between 3 and 5 a m. on the 27th instant, by pushing up the lower sash, which had been left unfas'ened, viz. : 9 pairs of jet Ear- rings ; 4 plated Lockets ; 2 plated Necklets ; 4 black glass Brooches ; 2 Brooches, in imitation of pearl mounting ; 4 Brooches, treble gilt, in imitation of diamond mounting ; 2 Brooches, in imitation of a carbuncle and pearl mounting ; 3 steel B- ickles ; 6 treble gilt Rings, for neckties ; 7 breast Pins, of various patterns: 5 gilt finger Rings ; 1 bog oak Brooch ; 1 pair of imitation emerald and silver mounted Ear riDgs ; several br « S9 mounted Pocket Combs ; a number of small amber Lockets ; 2 Cards, with a German silver Knife, Fork and Spoon attached. Information to be given to Super- intendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Ma]/ 29. During the night of the 25th instant, the shop of Mr. Roberts, jeweller and watchmaker, of Bute- street, Cardiff, was broken into, and about three dozen pocket Knives stolen, one, two, and three blades, tome with ivory handles. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorgan- shire.— Boio- st., Mav 27. During the night of the 22nd instant, the booking office at Welsh Hampton Railway Station, w « s broken into, and 4s. 6d. in copper stolen from out of the till ( which had been forced open), the property of the Cambrian Railway Company : sup- posed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Thomas, Ellesmere, Salop.— Bow- street, May 27. Between 7 p. m. antfJl p. m. J£ e 23rd njtimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. W. Field, of Knowle, near Bristol, was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom : two gold watch Guards, one with large round links, the other a plain one ; a gold Pencil Case, shape of a cross ; a gold Locket, with two portraits, one a gentleman, the other a lady ; a^ old Eye- glass ; a square gold Brooch, hair in centre, engrave' ? n back ' E. C.' or • E. M. ;' a gold enamelled Brooch ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; and a silver mus'ard Spooon, marked ' F.' Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, Somerset Constabulary, Flax Buurton, near Bristol, or to Sergeant Morse, Knowle, Bristol.— How street, Mav 27. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Tow Law. in the county of Durham, at about 3 o'clock on the morning of the 27th ultimo, two bay mare Ponies, viz, a h< y mare Pony, 3 years of age, 14J hands high, white star on forehead, a high stepper, the hair inside her hocks strong and standing up, having been recently blistered, both hind fetlocks white, the propeity of Mr. George Coates, of Tow Law ; the other a dark bay mare Pony, aged, 14j hands high, plain head, both knees have b; en broken, near hind foot white, the property of Mr. William Waugh, Tow Law. Information to be given to Superintendent Robinson, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope.— Bow- street, June 1. Three men. named WILLIAM BLACK, alias HUNTER, CHARLES PLUM, and STAG REEVE, were employed by Mr. John Chapman, of Norwich, horse- dealer, on the 18th April last, to take fifteen horses from Leicester to Melton- Mowbray, and at same time received £ 30 from Mr. Chapman towards paying expenses, & c. The fifteen horses were not taken to Melton, as otdered, and the three men absconded. Two have since been apprehended in Cambridgeshire, and are re- manded till Friday next, the 5th June, viz, Stag Reeve and Charles Plum. Williiin Black, alias Hunter, is still at large: he is £ 0 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, slender make, hair turning grey, small whiskers, dark complexion, thin face; dressed in a light- coloured coat and waistcoat, and brown trousers, and wears a silver gnard chain in his waistcoat pocket. None of the horses have j et been recovered. Infor- mation is to be given to the Borough Fo'ice Station, Leicester. — Bow- street Jun1. Stolen from a field in Middlesborou » h, during the night of the 25 th instant, a dark iron grey horse Pony, in good condition, about 6 years old, 13$ hands high, long tail, cut square, has a scar on the off hind leg, below the hock, both knees have been broken, and the hair shows rather lighter, and bad on a leather collar. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen during the night of the 19th instant, from a field in the parish of Marshfield, the property of Mr. Thomas Evans : a light bay mare Pony, mountain breed, 7 years old, about 11 hands high, marked on left side with the letter ' P.' under the saddle, tips of ears cut, dark leg-, and in good condition. In- formation to be given to Inspector Sheppard, County Consta- bulary, Newport, Monmouthshiae.— Bov- street, Mav 27. Description of a man who was apprehended near Nuneaton, at 3 a. m. on the 2lst instant, with two Horses in his possession, which were stolen during that night from the parishes of Gilmorton and Ashby Parva near Lutterworth ; he gives the name of WILLIAM SMITH, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, thin brown small whiskers, rather florid complexion, long visage, high cheek bones, lvge gTey eyes, which are weak, and which are frequently being closed from some defect, la> ge nose, which is bread at the nostrils, has a deep dimple in the cbin ; states he is a native of Bir- mingham, a butcher by trade, has lived at West Bromwich, and at Smethwick ; be is remanded until the 28th instant, it is supposed that he has committed several similar offences elsewhere. Absconded from Wraglev. on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzlement, EDWARD DREWRY, a native of Eagle, Lincolnshire, butcher. He is about 28 years of age 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, stiff built; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, lignt tweed trousers, stiff round black hat, with white bone buckle on girdle. He was seen at Horncastle on the following day. His father is in America, and it is suspected that he will attempt to join him. Previous to last March he lived with Mr. Quenborough, of Boston. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Barsley, County Police Station, Market Rasen, or Inspector Truelove, Wragley, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 1. Absconded on the 28th ult., from Old Brentford, stealing 11 yards ot green striped Stuff, 11 yards ditto, with narrow stripe, 11 yards of Mourning, 8| yards grey and black stripe, 8 yards of light cotton Print, 14 yards of white Calico, 4 yards of woollen Shirting, and a light mohair Shawl: a man, 36 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in blue shooting coat, light vest and trousers, and blue scarf.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, June 1. Stolen from on board the schooner * Viking,' while lying in the river Tyne, a quantity of Rope, two casks of Beef, and some Herrings. By a man named SMITH, who has absconded, and'for wl o9e apprehension a magistrate's warrant has been issued, about 6 feet 9 inches high, light hair and beard, long straight nose, and about 24 years of age; he is a sailor, and a native of North Shields, but talks with a south country accen', having frequently sailed in south country ships, but lately has been employed in boats on the Tyne, selling crockery ware. When last sven he was dre « sed in moleskin" trousers, blue guernsey frook, cloth cap with peak ; he resided with his wife in North- street, Milburn- place, then in Thames- street, S lUth Shields, and supposed now to be in the western part of it. Information to be given at any of the Police Stations of New- castle- on- Tvne, Gateshead, North or South Shields.— Bonj- slreet, June 1. A warrant has been issued sgairst MARK, alias JAMES, FRENCH, charged with stealing at Brighton, on the 29th ultimo, a Registered Lettir containing the sum of £ 26 in bink notes, the monies of his mistress, Mrs. E. S. Colvin, 8, Bedford- square, Brighton ; he is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, strong built, red f cj, brown hair and whiskers, notquite meeting under the chin light grey eyes ; dressed in dark clothes and black hat. He h>: s served in the 1st Royal Regi ment for 16 years, and has been in the employ of Mrs. Colvin for upwards of two years. Description of two men who absconded from Sandbach, on the 27th instant, charged wi'h stealing 200lbs. of Potatoes, a' Brereton, on th' 27th instant, the property of Thomas Hall, of Duke's Oak Farm. Brereton : EDWARD HORTON, 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 i inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in an old blue pilot coat, blue plush vest, cord trousers, cap, and clogs ; ho is a labourer, and a native of Sandbach. JOHN BROWN, 34 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, light bair, fallow complexion, and has a shuffling gait; dressed in a brown cloth j cket. black cloth vest, and old brown cap ; he is a sh iflmaker, and a native of Sand bach. Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich. or to Sergeant Hulme, Con- stabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street. May 29. Description of a man who was engaged as an in- door servant to Mr. Rogers, Lowee Hope Farm, Felton, Hereford- shire, ont'e 19th, and early on thr morning of the 21st October last absconded and stole the following property : a brown cloth Jacket, torn on the elbow, a p- iir of cotton cord Breeches, and cashmere Leggings, a light moleskin double breasted Waistcoat, with white calico back, two blue bundle Handkerchiefs, with ' W.
