C. *.* Whenever . it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. EOBBESY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of WILLIAM HUGHES, joiner, of Druid Corwen, Merionethshire, on the railway platform, Chester, about 6 p. m. on the 6th instant, a silver lever Watch, plate glass. No. 128S6, yellow chins, the ring from the shank broken off. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, County Constabulary Office, Bala, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, " 11. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of JAMES LYNCH, charged with the wilful murder of James Lavery, at Willington Quay, on the 2nd inst., he is an Irishman, 35 to 40 y< ars of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, round shoulders, dark brown hair, with little whiskers under chin, the eyes have the appearance of having been sore, and rather red, small face, and slightly pockmarked, sallow com- plexion, and rather slightly made, more especially from the waist downwards ; dressed in a daik grey coat, much worn on tops of shoulders with carrying iron, fustian trousers, and a blue cap, with peak ; be has been working for some time at Messrs, Palmer's Ship Yard. Howdon, as a labourer, and will most likely endeavour to make his way to Ireland or America. Information to be given to Superintendent Wookey, North- umberland Constabulary, Bulman's Village, Northumberland. Bow- street, May 6. Description of three poachers who are charged with vith violently assaulting and wounding William Lane, under gamekeeper to John Sherwin Gregory, Esq., in the parish of Great Ponton, Grantham, Lincolnshire, on the 26th ultimo: JAMES WATSON, alias NOTTINGHAM JIMMY or LONG JIMMY, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, marked on side of right eye from a blow iu the affray ; dressed in long blue coat, dark trousers, and billycock hat ; is a labourer, and is well known in Stamford, Peterborough, Oundle, Kettering, Bedford, Nottingham, and Chesterfield. WILLIAM SUTTON, about 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, worn busby round chin ; dressed in cord jacket and trousers, dark vest, and black cloth cap ; is a labourer, a native of South Witham, Lincolnshire, and a returned convict. JAMES BREWSTER, alias CITY BREWSTER, about 36 years of age, 6 teet 8 or 9 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, dark complexion, stout built; diessed in pilot jacket, cord trousers, and billycock hat. They have all been in the habit of working in skin yards. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, County Police Station, Grantham, Lincolnshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— tinw- street, May 6. In the months of October and November laBt. the remains . f two children were found in an old coal pit at Upper Arley, Staffordshire, one was apparently a newly born infant, sup- posed to havetbeen in the pit about twelve months ; the other is about 6 years old, aud had probably been in the pit eight or ten years. A goner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder ag ist some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Guvernment, in each case, to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice in either case, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the same result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Congreve, Stafford, or at any Police Station in Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 4. During the evening of the 1st instant, a murderous assault was committed upon Mary Ann Nuun, the housekeeper, at No. 2, Catherine- court, Tower Hill, London, and the sum of £ 2 6d. stolen : by t wo boys, of the following description, who have absconded ; ARTHUR FORRESTER SMITH, 15 years of age, and HECTOR AUGUSTUS SMITH, 13 years of age, brothers; both dressed in daik cloth jackets, waistcoats, trousers, and caps, one of the caps was lett behind ; both of these boys had light hair, and formerly lived with their parents at No. 56, Sutton- street, Commercial- road East, and lately at No. 9, Albion- place, Old Ford- street, Old Ford- road. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any person who shall apprehend, or give such information as will lead to the apprehension, of each or Stolen from the person of RICHARD MONTAGUE, at Holtye Races, in the parish of II an field, on the 9th instant, a black Pocket- book, containing three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and several Memoranda of racing. £ 10 reward will be given on recovery of the same, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen on the 2nd instant from the person of a gentleman, in a cab in the Strand, a gold Watch, maker Grohe, Wigmore- atreet, a massive gold albert Chain, cable pattern, with round bloodstone seal on swivel, a gold watch Key, with a small piece of coral attached to the end, and three gold enamelled Crosses, attached to a bar, in centre of Chain.— Metropolitan Policc, F Division, May 8, Stolen, with violence, from the person of John Williams, at New Church East, Monmouthshire, between 12 midnight and 1 a. m. on the 3rd iustant, two Half- crowns, a Florin, five Shillings, a Sixpence, aud a black- handled Pocket Kuife, with a piece of brass in the shape of a tea kettle let in the handle. By a man from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout figure, fresh complexion, freckled face, light brown or sandy hair, small light moustache, aud tuft on chin ; dressed in long blue pilot cloth coat, moleskin vest or white slop under, dirty moleBkin or cord trousers, black cloth cap with peak, and lace- up boots. Information to be given at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Usk ; to Superintendent Llewellyn, Usk ; or to Inspector Ward, Chepstow, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen from the person of Mrs. Jane Davy, of Norwood, on the 1st instant, whilst standing in the Otley Market, a worsted Purse, various colours, with steel clasp, which is broken, containing one Half- crown, four Florins, and about nine Shillings. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, Policc Office, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow street, May 4. Stolen from the person of Mrs. Mary Ann Roe, of Weston, whilst standing in the Otley Market, on the 1st instant, a black leather Purse, with steel clasp, containing one Half- sovereign, one Halt- crown, one Florin, and about four Shillings. Intormation to be given to Superintendent Sykes, Police Office, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 4. During the night of the 3rd instant, the office at the passenger station of tbe London and North Western Railway at Buckingham was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a B > x containing a silver Geneva • pen- faced Watch, name- on watch Berthoud, a Paris, N t. in case 17828; Pillar Plate and Dial of a silver *- atch ; a gold English f- plate lever Watch, open face, with seconds, No. 16H08; a lever Movement, with flat gold balance, seconds hand off, name and No. on it, but not known, believed to be Dent or Benson ; a lever Top Plate, < fcc„ jewelled. No. 8460 ; a silver double- bottomed Watch Case, Balance Wheel, and Pinion ; a Parcel containing two new cloth Waistcoats, one light grey, the other daik grey ; a new shepherd', plaid woollen Shirt, marked ' H. B ' on one side ; and two Pocket handkerchiefs, marked ' H. B.' The box and covering of the parcel was found near the station. Information to be given to Superintendent Howe, Buckingham.— Bow- street, May 8. During the night of the 1st instant, fhe office of John Harding, Wormley, Herts, was broken and entered, and an iron Chest, with its conte ts stolen therein. The chest was afterwards found in the river Lee, about one mile from the office, which had been broken open, aud two Sovereigns, and two £ 10 Bank of England Notes stolen, Nos. 32316 and 32317, dates 20th February, 1868 the payment of which is stopped. Whoever will give such information as will lead to tbe appre- hension and conviction of tbe offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 22 reward on application to John Harding, Wormley. Information to be given to Police Constable Coote, Wormley, or to Inspector Bygrave, Ware, Herts.— Bow- street, May 8. During the night of the 3rd instant, the saddle- room at Grafton Manor, was broken open, and the following Articles stolen, viz.: a pair of black cloth Trousers, Waiscoat, and Coat; a grey tweed Jacket and Waistcoat ; a round tweed stable Jacket; a white calico Sbirt; a pair of elastic- side Boots, with caps on toes ; a Muffler. pattern dogshead ; a silk Scarf; and two wooller Scarves. Information to be given to Super- intendent Bevan Police Station, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. — Bow- sired, £ 6. During the night of the 4' h instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. W. Godfrey, of the hundred of Romsey, was entered from the back, and the following property stolen therein: a Teapot, four Dessert Spoons, five Table ditto, with crest— a griffiu's head; fifteen T « a ditto, marked ' G W E. G.;' four Salt ditto, maiked ' G.;' and a pur of Pickle Fotks— all silver. Information to be given to superintendent White, Hants Constabulary, Romsey.— Bow- s'reel, May 6. Between 8 p. m. of the 29 h and 5 a. m. of the 30th ult., the office of the Cambrian Railway Company at Harlech Station, Merionethshire, was broken and entered through the window, and various articles stolen therefrom, which have been sold by a man of the following description : from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, swaithy complexion pug nose, yellowish face, dark brown hair and whiskers, and dressed in a blue pilot cloth j icket, ragged cord trousers, cloth cap with leather peak, old shoes much worn, and has the appearance of a tramp. Iutormation to be given to Inspector Hughes, Constabulary Office, Bala, Merionethshire.— Bou>- ttrcct, May 4. On the night of the 1st instant, or early the next morning, the dwelling- house of Henry Lay, of Cassington, Oxon, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen: a pair of men's lace- up Shoes, brass eyelet holes, nailed in soles and heels, four or five nails out ot right shoe, had socks in them cut out of an old felt hat; a black low- crowned hat; a tea Towel ; a small piece of cooked Beef, Cheese, Yorkshire Pudding, part of a small Loaf, also a sharp pointed white handled Knife. Supposed by a tramp who was seen in the neighbourhood, about 5 feet 10 inches high, walks very erect, active looking; diessed in a striped red flannel shirt, cord or moleskin trousers, billycock hat, strap round his waist, and without a coat. Information to be given to Inspector Coates, Woodstock, Oxon.— Bow- street, May 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Sometime during the night of the 8th inst., the ' Crown ' public- house, Albrighton, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein, viz. : a pink and white silk Dress, trimmed with black velvet; 1 black and blue striped ditto, corded round the bottom ; a silver plated snuffers Tray, crest tree in centre, a pair of silver Snuffers ; 4 silver plated Knives, metal handles or hafts; a ditto Fork ; 2 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' B.' A man of the following description called at the inn, about 6 p. m. on the 8th instant, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in light coloured overcoat, cotton cord trousers, and soft jimcrow hat; carried a frail, and was hawking Bponges. £ 2 2s. reward will be given by Mr. Bucknall, the landlord, for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, Salop, or to Sergeant Burnwell, Shiffual, Salop, — Bow- street, May II. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Donyatt, near Ilminster, since the 12th April last, a small light bay mare Exmoor Pony, about II or 12 hands high, about 8 years old, and black mane and tail; also a dark mare Donkey, 2 years old, and not shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Everitt, Constabulary Office, II- minster, Somerset.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen from Baker's Farm, in the parish of Churchstanton, Devon, on the 17th ultimo, the property of John Didham, a dark bay mare Pony, about 10 hands high, long tail, white nose, white spot near the lL- ht jiw, marked with the letter ' B,' but nearly obliterated, about 8 years old. A reward of £ 1 will be paid on couvictiou of the offender and recovery of the pony. Information to be given to Superintendent Dore, Police Station, Honiton, Devon.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from Gilvach Mountain, in the parish of Llantrissant, Glamorganshire : a light brown mare Pony, mountain breed, 6 years old, 12 hands high, long mane and tail, white feet to fetlocks, white blase dotan the face,- silver eye off side, a small lump on back behind s< ddle, in good con- dition, and In foal, the property of David Gibbs, mason. In- formation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Thomas, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen from the flock of EL P. Crofts, Esq., at Lichpole Farm, in the parish of Sompting, nine Ewes and nine Lambs, 2 POLICE GAZETTE May 11. the ewes were marked on the left side ' LLC.' in red paint, and the lambs in the usual manner. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the same, shall receive £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a boy in Farringdon- road, Clerkenwell, a Horse and Cart, contuioing fourteen Sacks of Oats, and three bushels of Hemp Seed, by a man, 35 years of age, middle height, dark complexion and hair, and dressed in white slop, black billycock hat, black cloth trousers, who tent the boy on a false message, aud on his return had decamped. The horse and cart has since been recovered.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 8. Stolen from a field at Bloxwich, near Walsall, during the night of the ltiih uhimo, a dark brown Horse, aged, 14 hands high, small white star on forehead, two wbife spots on each side of the back. Stolen on the night of the 28th ultimo, from a field at Swandean Farm, in the parish of Durrington, Sussex, the property ot Messrs. Emery, a two tooth ewe Sheep, marked • E.' in a circle, with pitch on the side, and a red spot between the shoulders. Intormatinn to be given to Inspector Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing.— itirw- st., May 4. Stolen from the open forest, in the township of East Dean, about the 10th of January last, a mare Pony, rising 5 years old, about 12 hands high, brown body, the two hind feet and the off fore one white, white spot in centre ot forehead, white streak across the left nostril, and ' T. G.' on both fore feet, the property ot Thomas Guest, who will pay 10s. reward, with all reasonable expenses on recovery of the pony, and conviction of the offender or i ff- Dders, if stolen. Supposed to have been stolen from Buckland- green, Surrey on the 26tb ultimo, the property of S. J. Champion, a brown Mare, about 16 hands high, 7 years old, lame in off lore fetlock, marked on both fore hoofs S. J. Champion, was heavy in foal, and had hind shoes off; i. lso a black mare Pony, aged, about 12^ hands high, white nose and eyebrows, marked from saddle, the letter K marked on the near shoulder ; also a black horse Colt, rising 3 years old, about 11 hands nigh. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Stolen from a dwelling- house at Redcar, near Keighley, Yorkshire, about 2 p. m on the 8th instant, £ 60 in Gold aud Silver, £ 40 in loci £ 5 Note>, the property of Gill Dixon, of Redcar, farmer. By two men, who were hawking combs in the neighborhood: both about 25 or 26 years of age, one is about 5 feet 7 inches high, the other about 5 feet 6 inches high, both dtepsed in caps and dark clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Gill, West Riding Constabulary, Keighley.— Box- street, May II. Description of BRIDGET BURKE, servant, charged with stealing a Tablecloth from the dwelling- house of Wm Melvin, of Heyside. Royton, on the 28th ultimo : 28 years of age. 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, browa hair, large teeth, and full face ; dressed in a lilac print, dress, old dark green shawl, and el- istic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Pickenng, County Constabulary, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bou>- street, May 11. Description of JOSEPH BAKER, alias DRAPER, for whose apprehension a warrant is issu- d, charged with felony, in the borough ot Ludlow ; he is 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, blue eyes, very liL> ht hair, small light whiskers, red sunburnt countenance, full face, aquiline nose, bald on fore top of head ; dressed in a brown cap, with peak, tied in froot with two strings, light jicket, witii large pockets on side of skirts, corduroy or fus'ian trousers, geueiaily tied round the knees with strings, is of stout build, hi Old shoulders, and stoops a little when walking; returned from penal servitude on the 30th of March, 1867, and is now supposed to be working with a gang of timber fallers, at Barth Peelers, in Herefordshire, or the adjoining counties. Stolen from a lodging- house in Whitchurch, on the 9th instanv. by a tramp anout 18 or I!) years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches hi^ b, very thiu features, and ill looking; dressed in a light dirty cap, round moleskin jacket, light coloured trousers; he has a sore heal, and is a native of Leominster. A black cloth single breasted Coat, black velvet collar. 1 pair of Mack cloth Trousers, fly fronts. 1 black cloth Waistcoat, roll collar. 1 black cloth Waistcoa', pieces let in the sides. A warrant has b' en issued against WILLIAM HENRY MANTLE, la'e ot Brighton, clerk, who absconded on the 6th lDBtanf, charged with stealing the sum of £ 7 6s. 9d. and a Cheque for £ 31 14B. on Dimsdale's Bank, Cornhill, which was cashed on the 6th instant, at the bank, the monies of his employer, Mr. Rowland Berkeley, wine aqency office, 39, Old Steine, Brighton : he is about. 16 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, light hair ; dressed ia shabby black clothes, black round crowned felt hat, maker ' Woolley, Brighton,' atid shephern's plaid scarf round his neck, and has relatives in Lincoln and in Portsmouth. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, May 8. Description of JOHN BERMINGHAM. charged on a warrant with embezzling 19 s. 6d., of Messrs. George and John Zair, whip manufacturers, Birmingham : about 26 years of age, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, d rk hair and complexion; dressed in dark coat, trousers, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— bow- street, May 8. Stolen on the lut instant, from No. 1, Hand- court, High Holborn, £ 7 in Gold. By a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, hair, aud eyes; dressed in drab cost, black trousers arid vest, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 8. Stolen on the 24ih ultimo, fiom a cart in High- street, Whitechapel, i3 5s. in bronze Coin. By a man, 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and whiskers, and dressed in white slop, light cord trousers, and blue necktie with white spots, who waa left in charge of the cart during the absence of the carman .— Metropolitan Police, H Division, May 7. Stolen on the let instant, from No. 111, Whitfield- street, £ 4 in Gold. By the servant, who has absconded, 44 years of sge, 6 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, and dressed in dark linsey, blue and black circular cloak, and black bonnet trimmed with black bugles.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 8. Stolen on the 3rd instant, in New Oxford- street, a ship's gold chronometer, enamel face, gold hands, plain case. By two men : one is tall aud thin, and wore a round felt hat ; the other is short, and both are respectably dressed.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 8. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of SELINA YEATES, late of Brighton, charged with stealing a piece ot Velvet, the property of Edwin Gates, No. 6, Railway- street, Brighton : she is about 24 years ot age, middle height, dark complexion, proportionafe make, round face, mouth sunken, aud pug nose; dressed in a violet mobair dress, red gaiabaldi, mauve silk bonnet, aud waterproof cloak. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- strect, May 8. Absconded on the 2nd instant, from No. 48, Crispin- street, Spitalfields ( stealing a cotton Dress, three Table Cloths, two white, one coloured), a cotton apron, and a blue velvet Bonnet), the servant, 20 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion aud hair, grey eyes, and dressed in litht blue bonnet, black shawl, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, May 8.
