Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the' " OLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. ',* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Further information respecting the dead body of a male child, found in Ansley Tunnel, on the 24th ult., advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo: a coroner's inquest has returned a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 60 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the Secre- tary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall Mr. Sturland surgeon", Westbury, Wilts]^ vvas" broken" and" lead to the same result. Information to be given to the Chief j entered, and stolen therein: a silver cream Jug, smooth Constable, Kenilworth, or to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, pattern, a large silver snuff Box, engine turned, 1 pair of JOHN DOCHERTY, miner, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, long thin features, scurvy face, large mouth, hair dark, no whiskers ; dress, long bluo pilot cloth jacket considerably worn, dark and green small checked trousers, dark vest, blue cloth oap. OWEN DOCHERTY, miner, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, brown hair, sandy- coloured whiskers on chin only, rather good looking ; dress, brown cloth jacket, trousers, and vest, round black felt hat, has a smart appearance, NEIL KANE, miner, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin face, dark hair and whiskers ; dress, dark grey trousers and vest, has a dissipated appearance. The Docherty's will in all probability be found in some mining district in a neighbouring county, and a reward of £ 10 will be paid on their apprehension and conviction and recovery of the stolen property by Chief Constable Jenkins, Dumbarton. — Bow- street, April 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 16th instant, the rectory at Potterne, near Devizes, was broken into and stolen therein : an old- fashioned gold Snuff Box, long inscription on it; a small silver Tea Pot, crest— a swan's neck and head ; a bmall Ladle, a Gravy Spoon, foui Table ditto, eight Dessert ditto, four Tea ditto, and a Butter Slice, all with ctest— an eagle rising from a mural crown ; a £ 6 Note of Locke of Co.' s Bank, Devizes; several Pounds in Gold and Silver, a quantity of Copper Coin, and about 15s. worth of Postage Stamps. Supposed by two men, who were seen near the premises the day previous : one about 35 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, cut very short and turning grey, no beard or whiskers, dark com- plexion, has a peculiar countenance, and the appearance of a pugilist; dressed in dark clothes and black hat; the other about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, beard, and moustache ; dressed in black coat, dark mixture cloth trousers and vest, and black hat, and carried a light coloured overcoat. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction ot the offender or offenders, on application to the Superintendent of Police, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, April 20. During the night of the 16lh instant, the house of Warwickshire.— Bout- street, April 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the 16th instant, at Llanybled- well Races, a silver lever Watch, Nu. 17105, ' E. Gough, 1864,' engraved on outside of inner ca6e. Information to be given to Spectacles, silver mounted, a leather Case, containing surgical instruments, and a small sum of Money in silver and Coppers. £' 10 reward will be paid on recovery ot the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster, Wilts.— Bow- street, April 20. Between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Gittins, of Shidnall, Chirbury, Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop. Bow- street, April 20. galop, was broken and entered, and the following property Stolen from the person on the night of the 16th instant, stolen therein, viz. : a black cloth Coat, man's . size, not much at Market Drayton, a patent lever silver Watch, maker James worn, with pockets in the hips, containing a Purse, with a Chambers, Liverpool, No. 2054. Information to be given to £ 5 Note of the North Wales Bank ; black cloth Vest and Sergeant Scale, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, April 20. Trousers to match the coat; two Waistcoats, man's size, slate Stolen on the 16th instant, from Mr. John Thurlow, at Middleton, an old- fashioned silver Watch, loose case, marked on the outside of inner case ' C. Craggs,' and 10s. lid. in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Young, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- streel, April 20. Stolen from the peison of a lady, on the 14th instant, at the Newport Railway Station, a gold hunting case Geneva Watch, engine turned back, gold dial, plated dome, attached a gold split Ring, Locket with ' J. H. Dore,' engraved on back, two Lockets with hair ; a gold Key ; and a gold Seal. Stolen from the person on the 14th instant, at the Isle of Wight Steeple Chases; a single case silver lever Watch, maker Alfred Warne. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Horan, County Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, April 17. Stolen about 11 p. m. on the 11th instant, from the person of Moses Palmer, while returning from Oakengates Market, a patent lever silver Watch, ' M. P.' engraved on outside of outer case, and ' M. R. Palmer' on outside of inner case. 10s. reward will be paid by Moses Palmer on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. On the morning of the 9th instant, Nutwell House, the residence of Sir Trayton Drake, Bart., was burglariously entered, and the following articles stolen therein :— a silver Medal, London Horticultural Society ; a cameo Profile of the late Lady Elliot Drake ; a small bronze Statuette of the late Emperor Napoleon. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Paris Street, Exeter.— Bow- street, April 13, Stolen by three men with violence from the person, at Croy, Dumbartonshire, early on the morning of the 7th instant, a patent lever gold watch, double- bottomed, flower carved on outer case, gold dial, small scratch or crack on dial, steel hands, No. 18832, much worn, and having attached a gold guard chain, secret link, much worn near swivel colour, with brown stripes in them, one with pink back in it; and two silver Watches, one pair- case verge, without hands, made in Liverpool, and has ' Samuel Gittins, Shidnall,' written on a paper inside, the other a Geneva, nearly new, seconds hand, ' No. 78 ' and some other figure on the dial, and ' T. G.' on the stone of a gold seal attached. Supposed by two tramps, who were camping in the lane near the house the pre- vious day : one is about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 0 inches high, sandy hair, thin sandy whiskers, and dressed in the suit of black clothes, as he left his own suit behind him, hid in a heap of straw near the house ; he is supposed to have worked with a blacksmith, as his clothes are very black and greasy, and the back of the vest is burnt in holes as if riddled with small shot; the coat is dark brown cloth, and the trousers has lining which appears to have been taken out of cord ditto, and are identified as having belonged to the above ; the other man is lame, and walks with two sticks, is shorter and older, and dressed in a dark rough coat, a sailor's blue shirt under it, and cap with peak. | They had ballads printed by J. Wrigly, No. 3, Rochdale- road, Manchester, selling, and are likely to be found in some bye- lane, sleeping in outbuildings, or selling ballads in some fair or market. Information to be given to Superintendent Casewell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury ; to Acting Chief Constable Danily, Newtown ; or to Police Constable Rogers, Montgomery.— Bow- street, April 20. Between 1 and 8 p. m. on the 15th insta nt, thedwelling- house of Mr. Robert Walshaw, Tranmere, Cheshire, was broken and entered during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : 1 silver Snuff box, square pattern, engraved on lid ' Pre- sented to Richard Morley, Esq., by a few esteemed friends.' 12 Dinner Forks and 12 Dessert Forks, electro- plated, and marked ' A.' 1 large Teapot, 5 Table Spoons, and 12 Tea Spoons, all electro plated. 2 silver Salt Spoons, one marked ' W.' 1 Sugar Basin, 1 Cream Jug, and 1 child's Cup, all electro- plated, and gold plated inside. 1 silver Medal, inscribed ' Goojerat, Chillinwallah' name ' Jas. Kennedy.* 3 gold Wedding Rings, much worn, 2 Keeper Rings. 1 small gold fancy Ring, set with pale yellow stones. 1 silver Penci'case. 1 electro- plated Toast Rack 1 lady's gold guard Chain, single link, old pattern. 1 pair of loug { old Ear- drops. 1 small silver Snuff b ix. 1 silver pair- case verge Watch. 1 short drop Chain, Australian gold, link bar pattern, with a malachite stone in seal. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammond, County Constabulary, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Boio- street, April 17. Between 10 and 11 p. m. on the 9th instant, the house of Mrs. Phoebe Starling, in the township of Linton, in the parish of Bromyard, was entered through the bedroom window, by two or three men, two of whom held Mrs. Starling down on the floor, while the other ransacked her bedroom and stole two old dirty white dimity pockets, from underneath the bolster of her bed, containing an old leather Purse, with two half Sovereigns, about 10s. in Silver, and a German silver Watch from a drawer, the glass cracked across, winds up at the back, with a steel or brass Chain attached ; no description can be given of the men, except one of them was dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, April 17. Between 1 and 5 n. m. on the 10th instant, dwelling- houses in High- street, Hungerford, Berks, were broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom: four Table Spoons, three Tea ditto, four Salt ditto, engraved ' B. A.' ; Gravy ditto, nine Dessert ditto, a Mustard ditto, a Fish Slice, two Sauce Ladles, a Butter Knife, engraved ' B. E. A all silver; two silver Cream Jugs, and two pairs of silver Sugar Tongs. Information to be given to Superintendent Harfield, Berks Constabulary, New- bury, Berks ; or to Serjeant Bennett, Hungerford.— Bow- st., April 13. Between 2 and 3 p. in. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Sutcliffe, farmer, Stamland, was entered during the temporary absence ot the family, the door having been left unlocked, and tne undermentioned property stolen therein : a small linen Ba^, containing six Sovereigns and two Half Sovereigns; a silver lever Watch, white dial, No. either 16163 or 16653, . maker's name supposed Whiteley, Ripponden ; and a gold albert Guard, snake pattern, gold key with topaz and cornelian stone. Supposed by two youDg men, who were seen near the house, one is about 18 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, supposed to lave a deformed upper lip, and dressed in dark short lapped shooting coat unl wideawake or billycock hat; the other is about 16 or 18 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, and dressed in a dark slack back coat, and wideawake or billy- cock hat. Information to be Kiveu to Superintendent Cope- land, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, Yorishre.— Boto- street, April 13. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. Mr. Davis, of Radford, near Leamington, in the county of Warwick, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen, viz : 1 gold Watch, No. 7587, maker Powell, Worcester; a silver Toast Rack ; 4 silver Table Spoons, two marked ' D.,' the others plain; 3 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' W. D.;' several old gold and silver Coins ; 2 old Guineas ; I Queen Anne shilling ; 1 oid halt Sovereign ; and several others not described ; 1 black cloth Overcoat, stout cloth, much worn, single- breasted, several spots of grease down the front, made very long, 2 pockets behind in skirt, and one inside left breast, and deep round cuffs ; I very dark Oxford mixture fine cloth, same make as black one, nearly new, both old- fashioned. Two persons were seen loitering about near the house the day previous to the robbery, one about 26 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, very dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat and trousers. The other a tout 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion ; dressed in black cloth jacket, dark grey trousers ; both wore soft black billycocks. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Isaac, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, or to Inspector Gaskins, Southam.— Bow- street, April 13. HORSE AND RATTLE STEALING. WILLIAM MASON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, charged with stealing a Donkey at Newtown, has been apprehended and rem nded. In his possession was found a pair of boy's new cord Trousers, a boy's hrown Smock Frock, open down the front, a linen Shirt, marked ' C. K. Bernard, No. 6,' and a red cotton Pocket- handkerchief; the shirt ia worn a good deal, all the other things are quite new, o POLICE GAZETTE, April 20. and are supposed to have been stolen from Herefordshire. Stolen from the Vedw, in the parish of Saint Harmon, on the night ot the 9th instant, the property of John Breeze a 2- year old Filly, of the Mountain breed, dark brown, and about 10 h> md » high : supposed by a man who had the appear- ance of a low horse jockey, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in giey coat and waistcoat, cord trousers fitting tight to the legs, and carried a long whip, with brass ferrule9. Information to be given to Superintendent Constance, Penybont, or to Sergeant Jones, Rhayader, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen during the night of the loth instant, an entire bay Pony, 3 years old, 12 hands high, blnck mane, tail, and legs, smart, well bred, and in fair condition, with blinder bridle, sewn with white leather thong near the bit on near side, the property of Martin YoUng, farmer, of Sotherton cum- Aberford. Information to ba given, to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Selby, Yoikshire.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen from a field at Croft Herefordshire, about the 2nd instant, a bay mare Pony, 6 years old, about 13 hands high, white star on forehead, a few white hairs on left shoulder, a notch in right ear, long switch tail, mane plaited with hay, strong bone, one shoe off, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Constabulary Station, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bow- mrcet, April 17. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from a sheep fold at Chaldon Court Farm, Chaldon, two teg Stieep, they were taken on to Alderstead Heath, about | mile from the fold and slaughtered. The heads, skins, and entrails were found there, and a butcher's knife near the sheep fold. Information to be given to Superintendent Hollington, County Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- street, April 13. Stolen on the night of the 2nd instant from a field at Swainby, two good bred Ewes and four L imbs, the property of Mr. Joseph Wortley, farmer. ! Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, Stokesley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Hodnet, Salop, on the night of the 3rd instant, a Shropshire Down yearling Ewe, in lamb, marked ' W.' in pitch, on the off side, which mark is nearly obliterated, the property of George Wild, of Hodnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Police Constable Birch, Hodnet, Salop. — Bow- ilreet, April 13. Stolen on the night of the 27th ultimo, from the road side at Pontypridd, near Berriew, a she Ass, light brown colour, tail cut square and short, no shoes on the fore feet, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, or to Police Constable Sibbald, Berriew, Montgomeryshire. — Bozo- street, April 13. LABOENTAND EKSEZZIE 13I5T' • WILLIAM MORRIS, alias JOHN FULLER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, charged with stealing a spring Cart, and a set of Harness, from Rugby, has been apprehended, and the property n- covered ^ he i8 commit,.' for trial at the ensuing Warwick Q/ iarter Sessions.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen from a chest of drawers at the Victoria tavern, Southwold, | nn the night Jof the 14th instant, a black Jacket, trimmed with wide b ads round the shoulders, sleeves, bottom and front, also a full size grey tweed water- proof Cloak, with hood, button at the neck, the property of the landlady ; also a little girl's black Jacket, with yellow metal buttons down front and on sleeves : by a man who lodged at the house the same night, 30 or 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches hizh, full face, proportionate build, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, lisps in his speech, and his eyes are constantly in motion ; dressed in brown frock coat, pocnets on sides with flaps, dark trousers, and black deerstalker hat. £ 1 reward will be paid on recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to the Chief of Police, Southwold, Suffolk.— Bow- street, April 20. Description of JOHN RICHARDS, late of the parish of Montfort, in the county of Salop, pii; dealer, against whom a warrant is issned, charging him wit'., stealing, on the 26th ultimo, a quantity of Wearing Apparel, Sheets, and Blankets, the property of " Thomas Pugh, of the parish of Montford : he about 44 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very stout make, small wart or mole under the right Dcstril, nearly bald, whiskers inclined to be sandy, and generally dressed in grey coat and woollen cord trousers. He is accompanied by a woman, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light blue eyes, cut on ( supposed) right cheek bone, hair brown, and dressed when last seen in a black straw hat with feather, brown linsey dress, and long dark tweed cloak ; has with her a little girl, about two years old, stout for her age. They were 6een on the 27tli ultimo going in the direction of Newtown, Montgomeryshire, the man driving a trap, drrwn by a light chesnut horse, with its beily and legs roughly clipped, white hind legs, and in low condition. On the 9th instant the man was seen at the Craven Arms Railway Station, and on the 11th the man and woman at Bishops Castl-, Salop. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.- Bow- street, April 17. Description of a man who lodged at the Hare and Hounds inn, Framlingham, on the night of the 13th instant, and absconded on the following morning, charged with stealing a canvas Purse, containing 1 half Sovereign, two 5s. Pieces, and small silver Money, amounting to about, 37s., the property of Richard Bowles, who slept in another bed in the same room. He is further charged with stealing a pair of old Blankets, from the btd in which he slept, the property of the landlord of the above inn. He is supposed to be about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, dark swatthy complexion, dark hair, dark short whiskers meeting under the chin ; had the appear- ance of a journeyman printer on tramp, Jewish speech, and very talkative at night when at his lodgings ; dressed when he left Framlingham in a dark cloth overcoat, black billycock hat, and dark cloth trousers, much worn. Information to be given to Inspector Fisher, Framlingham, East Suffolk.— Bow- street, April 17. Absconded from Rendcombe on the 7th instant, charged with stealing three Brushes aod a pair of Scissor?, the property of his master, William Newcnmbe, of Cirencester, builder : JAMES TRAVIS, alias DANIELS, a tramping painter and paperhanger, about 45 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, is lame of the right leg, and has a wound on the ankle; dressed in dark blue coat and vest, canvas trousers, high hat, and spring- side boots, much worn. Information to be given to Superintendent ltidditbrd, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehenbion.— Bow- slreet, April 17. Description of a man charged with breaking into and entering a dwelliog- house in Ashton- under- Lyne, between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 10th instant: he is 40 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout made, fresh looking, and has a sandy tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in a suit of dark clothes, or black cloth, black silk hat, and of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- st., April 15. Absconded on the 30ih ultimo, charged with forgery: RICHARD WILLIAM WAY, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 74 inches high, dark eyes and complexion, light brown hair, which is straight and cut short, small whiskers and moustache, and proportionate build ; dressed in blue pilot overcoat, velvet collar und facings, bound wiih braid, dark brown sealskin vest, black or Btriped trousers, and patent leather boots. He was accompanied by a young lady, who will pass as his wife : about 19 years of age, 6 feet II inches or 5 feet high, dark eyes and complexion, and light flaxen hair.
