C. i » • Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Description of ALFRED ADAMS, of Bamptoft, Oxon, labourer, against whom a warrant has been issued, charged with maliciously inflicting U( iou one George Shayler grievous bodily harm at Bampton, on the 27th ultimo : he is about 20 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather stout build, dark brown hair, no wickers, and iather dark complexion ; dressed in a velveteen jacket or brown slop, corduroy trousers, lace up shoes, and a round cloth cap without peak, which he generally wears on the right side of his head ; he has relatives living' at Crick lade, Wilts, where it is ptohable he may make his way. B.— Boio- st., March 6. FORGERY. Absconded since the 18th ultimo, charged with forgtryi , and also with stealing upwards of £ 500, the monies of his late employers. Ci a< les Lavy and Company, 7, New Basing- hall- street: FERDINAND ENCKHAUS, late of No. 2,1 Alexander- villas, St. John's wnod, Middlesex, merchant's clerk, 22 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, brown curly hair, weak eyes and legs, wears a gold fly scarf pin, a small gold horse attached to bis j watch guard, aud carries a tortoiseshell cigar case; warrants have been issued for his apprehension. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Bangor Steeple Chase, on the Cth instant, a silver lever Watch, No. 3961, maker Brownhill, Liverpool, with gold wire albert Chain, and gold SetJ, white camelia, on which was cut a fox, under atree, attached. On the night of the 6th instant, Mr. Adam Dempster, was attacked by three or four men, while crossing a field in the bore gh ot Dudley, and robbed of the the sum of £ 445, con- sisting of Gold, Bark of England Notes, and £ 5 Notes of the Dudley and Westhromwich and Wolverhampton Banks, a £ 5 Back of England Note, backed by E. Trudell, and dated 4th or 5th instant, « ' so a number of Keys, Pocket Knife, Cheque Book, and s. e Letters. Three men, of sh'trt stature, were seen running liom tbe place where the robbei> nascommitted, followed by a female in a brown cloak ; they were dressed in dark clothes and each man wore a billycock hat. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a gentleman, in Regent- street, a silver oren- faced lever Watch, maker Lowe, No. 4053, ' Loan watch from Dent's, 34, Royal Exchange, No. 9,' scratched inside case, a thick square- linked gold guard Chain with large hook, a very large gold Key, bloodstone seal at end, engraved with the ' Weston' crest and coat of arms, motto— • Nect emere nect imida' By two women : one 25 years of age, middle height, pale, and repulsive looking ; tbe other 20 years of age, short, and thin.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, March 6. On tbe evening of tbe 2nd instant, Mr. Robert Brown, manufacturer, Kilmarnock, waB assaulted on the Newmill- road, near Kilman ock, and robbed ot a double- bottomed patent lever gold Watch, No. 8071, with heavy gold guard Chain, plain cable link, attacbtd. Supposed by a man about 6 feet 1 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, stout make; dressed in a dark low hat or cap, dark shooting coat or jacket, aad drab BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The dwelling- hi use of Thomas Jenkins, watchmaker, High- street, Merthyr, was hrol< en and entered between 11 p. m. on the 7th and 7 a m on the 8ih instant, and a silver Tea Spoon, fiddle pattern. ma'ked ' T S. Jenkins,' stolen therein. The dwelling- house if E. R. Gay, chemist, High- street, Merthyr, was broken and entered between 11 p. m. on the 7th and 7 a. m. on the 8th instant, and the following property stolen therein : twelve Tea Spoons and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all silver, bead pattern, and marked * E. R. G.;' four silver Tea Spoons, plain pattern ; two Table Spoons, two Dessert ditto, two Salt ditto, and two Mus'ard ditto, all electro- plated, bead pattern ; four electro- plated Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern ; a silver Pickle Fork ; a silver Bu'ter Knife; a pair of gilt Sleeve Links; and a pair ot linen Cuffs. The dwelling- house of Peter Williams, printer, ' Merthyr Tydvil, was broken and ent- red OD the night of the 7th inst., and the following pmpeity stolen therein: four silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. K. ;' six electro- plated Tea SpoonB; £ 12 10s. in Gold, 8s. in Six i ences and smaller coins, Is. Od. in Coppers, and 5s. worth of Postage Stamps. A drab- coloured life preserver, brass mounted, was left behind by the burglars. Information to be given to Superintendent Wrenn, Glamorgan- shire Constabulary, Merthyr Tydvil.— Bow street, March 9. Between 10 p. m. on tfce fl'h and 7 a. m. on the Cth inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. William Bond, of Leasgill, West- moreland, tailor and draper, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : 1 pair of strong laced- up Boots, with eight biass eyelet holes on each side, tbe left boot capped on the tofc and above the heel, and two or three of the brasa eyelet holes torn out, the right boot capped on the inside; and a pair of black and white striped woollen Trousers and Waistcoat ; these Articles can be identified. By a tramp, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown or black hair and w.' iskers, slender make, and spoke the Lancashire dialect; dressed in a brown cloth overcoat, under which he wore a black cloth coat, dark cloth trousers] and vest, and will pr. hably lie wearing the stolen boots. He can be identified, having been seen near Mr. Bond's house, on the evening of the oth instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Bird. During the night of the 6th instant, a tailor's shop was entered in Bolton, by false keys, and stolen therein : three pairs of men's white moleskin Trousers aud Vest, eight pairs of men's cord Trousers, four men's grey tweed cloth Vests, one with collar; two boys' g> ey tweed Suits, aud two Vests, one bound with black braid, no collars; three blue witney cloth Overcoats, two lined wiih red and black, and one with black woollen ; a black cloth Coat, lined with red and black woollen; two black cloth Jackets lined ditto ; a cord ditto, lined with grey twill; thrw boy>,' blue witney cloth ditto, lined with black stuff ; six boys' black cloth Vests, without collars, lined with glazed calico ; six men's cord ditto, a boy's brown cloth Suit, and a boy's cord ditto. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- st, March 9. On the night of the 28th ultimo, the house of Mr. Reed, at Littlehampton, was broken into, aud the following property stolen, six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' D.' five ditto marked ' C,' two Table SpoonB, marked • D,' one ditto, not marked, two Salt Spoons, not marked, a Mustard ditto, and two silver cream Jugs, one marked ' 1 M. C.;' and two pairs of silver Sugar Tongs, not marked. A ticket- of leave man of the following description is suspected : 27 years ot age, 6 feet 8| inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, scar near right eye, long scar left ot forehead, mole on left shoulder and left side of neck, and long scar on left shin. Information to be given to Superintendent Holloway, West Sussex Constabulary, Leominster, near Arundel, Sussex.— Bow- street, March 9. On the night of the 3rtf instant, the house of Mr. James Gyton, tailor, Sheerness, Kent, was broken and entered by the kitchen window, and the tollowing articles stolen therein : two Table Spoons, six Tea Spoons, and a Mustard Spoon, all silver, and marked ' G.;' fuur Dessert Spoons, two Table Spoons, a pair of Sugar Tongs, a Tea Spoon, and two Forks, all electro- plated ; three silver Dessert Spoons, one marked • J, S. F.;' a superfine black cloth walking Coat; a blue witney ditto ; about 2 yards of black silk Velvet; two pieces of dark Cloth, about 2 yards in each ; ai d about 3 yards of black silk Serge. A black and white mixture Waistcoat, of coarse material, Buch as is worn by discharged convicts, and an old case Knife, with brown bone handle, were left in the house ; tbe offender is likely to be spattered with blood, as a cat was killed in the kitchen, and a quantity of blood spattered about; the waist- coat left behind was bloody. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, Kent Constabulary, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Noakes, County Police Station, Sheerness.— Boto- street, March 6. Between 9 and 12 a. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Charles Weston, at Knowle Hill, Egham, was forcibly entered, and the following property stolen therein : an old- fashioned double- case silver Watch. with flint glass, maker James Bishop, London, No. 700 ; 25s. 6d. in Silver; 2 cotton pocket Handkerchiefs, one red wiih white spots ; and a child's Telescope. Supposed by a tramp, between 30 and 40 yean of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, and black moustache ; dressed in a short tweed jacket, tweed trousers, and old cloth cap. In- formation to be givtn to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Con- stabulary, Cherisey.— Bew- sireet, March 2. Between 10 30 p. m. on the 27' h, and 7 am. on the 28th ultimo, th- dwelling- house of D. Bowan, surgeon, Stret- ford road, Old Trafford, was buglariously entered and the following property stolen therein : 1 brown morocco case, con- taining white hafted Knives, a Saw, aud the usual surgical instiuuients ; 1 red moiocco C ase, containing surgical Knives, a set of Catheters, a set of Bistouries, white handles, some curved, others straight, two silver Speculums, a Clim with gilt ends, and several Lancets and Knives, most of the above were made by ' Wood.' It- formation to be given to the Superin- tendent of Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, Ma'cli 2. Between 10- 30 p. m. on the 28th and 6 a. m. on the 29th ultimo a dwelling- house at Withington was burglariously entered, ai d tbe following property stolen therein : an electro- plated Claret Jug, white ivory handle, marked ' B.;' a ditto Sugar Basin, marked ' B.;' a pair of ditto Sugar Tongs, marked ' b.;' a Timepiece, gold and green case, stands on four feet, maker Hall, King- street, Manchester; a scarlet and yellow damask Tablecover ; a blue pilot reefer Overcoat; a black cloth Overcoat, large size, two pockets in skirts outside, and one inBide lett breast; a tninure Undercoat, reefer pattern, bound with black braid ; three white damask Tablecovers; two unbleached ditto spotted pattern ; a pair of white calico Sheets, large size, nearly new; a pair ot men's Wellington Boots, nearly new ; a pair of elastic side ditto, nearly new ; and a pair ot strong lace up ditto, nearly new. Information to be given to tbe Superintendent ot Police, County Constabulary Station, Old Trafford near Manchester— Low street, March 2. HORSE AUD CATTLE STEALING. WILLIAM CAMPSELL and WILLIAM NADIN, advertised in the Police Gazette on tbe Cth January last, for slaughtering and stealing the Carcase of a Sheep, have been committed tor trial.— Bow- street, March 9. Supposed stolen from a field near Grimsthorpe Castle, on the 5th or 6tb instant, the property ot Mr. Williamson, Grimsthorpe Park, a store Cheviot Sheep, white face, marked ' T.' on near side, a burn on right side of face, near tbe nose. Information to he given t" Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Boir^ slreet, Match 9. Found at Purbrook, Hants, supposed stolen, a dark brown gelding Pony, 8 years old, 12 hands high, tail cut square above tbe hocks, fore- lock cut square, near fore shoe missing, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Drew, Hants Constabulary, Fareham.— Bow- strea, Match 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of Melton Mowbray, on the 2- th ultimo, a hay horse Pony, 5 years old, 14 hands high, black mane and tail, marked with a while star on the forehead. Stolen on the 1st instant, from a field at Epping, the property of Edwin Richardson, baker, a black Mare, aged, about 14J bands h'gli, a scar on off shoulder, caused by collar, switch tail, thiu mane. Supposed to have been taken by low horse dealeis for the purpose of saddle work in tbe suburbs of London. Suppused to have been stolen since the 17th ultimo, from a field at Wells Farm, Warlingham, near Croydon, a small black and brown mare Pony, about 11 hands high, tail cut unevenly, sides slightly clipped.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, March 9. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the city of Durham, on the 29th ultimo, a patent lever silver Watch, No. 7779, haB * A. L. Stevenson,' scratched on the inside ot outer case, and ' A L. S.' on inside case : hy a young man, of low stature, has a tuft of dark hair on chin ; dressed in dark coat and cap, and light cord trousers. Description of a tramp who absconded from a lodging- house. kept by John Orpe, in Cheadle, Staffordshire, on the morning of the 2nd instant, stealing a Purse containing £ 2 16s.: he is about 45 years of 8ge, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale face, light hair and small light whiskers ; dressed in light coat and trousers, black felt hat, carried a basket about, jj ot a yard long containing paper mats ; be was traced to the direction of Leek.
