Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the S. tgnatinre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, don, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepasc!, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AIB MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Description of a youth charged with shooting a boy, on the 13th instant, in Hair Brain- court, Blue Anchor- yard, Whitechapel : 17 years of age, 4 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in old grey jacket, cord trousers, ] ace- up boots, and dark cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, February 21. Description of a female, wanted for the supposed murder of her female infant Child, by drowning, in a piece of water, called the Black Sea, on Wandsworth- common, on the 28th ultimo : she is about 25 years of age, 4 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair worn io two plaits behind, mole on right cheek ( a few black hairs growing from it) ; dressed in a brown speckled gown, black shawl; appearance of a servant. May apply for admission to a female refuge or casual ward.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, February 19. About 3 a. m. on the 18th instant, the mansion of Viscount Holmesdale, M. P., at Linton, Kent, was burglariously entered by two men, armed with pistols aud bludgeons, and with their faces blackened ; they encountered the private watchman on the premises, and committed a murderous assault on him, disabled him, and made their escape. They are described as men not exceeding the middle height, and dressed in dark clothes ; one or both may have the mark of a blow on the head from tbe watchman's stick. They left behind a dark Lantern, a Russian slouch waterproof Hat, and a green and red silk Pocket- handkerchief. Iuformation to be given to Super- intendent Ovenden, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone.— Box- street, February 19. The bodies of two newly born female Children were found, one in a field near Llangefni, and the other in a pool of water at Gaerwen, on the morning of fhe 28th ultimo. In addition to £ 20 offered by the Local Authorities, a further sum of £ 60 will be paid by the Government in each case, to any person who shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the party or parties who murdered the children in question, and Her Majesty's . Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's \ pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who ' Hall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the same result. It is suspected that the bodies were brought to the above named places front some other district. Iuformation to be given to the Chief Constable, Menai Bridge, Anglesey. — Bow- street, February 19. and hair ; dressed in black silk dress, black velvet jacket, and black lace bonnet with white strings ornamented with black beads.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, February 21. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Nottingham, on the evening of the 19th instant, a plain gold Ring, with a single diamond in claw : by a man named TOBY PEARSON, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, rather stout, no whiskers or moustache, and is well known among betting men as a welsher, and is also known at the Bouverie Arms, Fleet- street, London, and at the Surrey Arms, Surrey- street, Sheffield. Information to be given to Chief Constable Freeman, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen from the person of George Knox, at Idle, on the 4th instant, a large new silver Geneva Watch, engine turned case, gold hands, and raised gold figures, sunk seconds, dial white in centie, browu on outside, also a gold plated Chain, snake pattern, has been repaired, aud a brown glass Seal. Supposed by a man, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 iuches high, stout built, sallow complexion, brown hair and whiskers, round face ; dressed in a blue pilot suit. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Beno- street, February 19. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- Description of a man. named ROBERT HUGHES, alias ROBIN TYGWYRTHIN, a labourer, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with arson : he is about 29 yearB of age, 5 feet 6 i. iches high, brown hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, fresh complexion, small eyes, has a brother named Owen Hughes, a stonemason, living at Pen- y- groes, Llanllyfni, Carnarvonshire. with whom he has occasionally worked, and has also been working at Bethesda and Festiniog Quarries. Information to be given to Superintendent Owen, Police Office, Holyhead, Anglesey.— Bow- street, February 24. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. Shaxby, at Canterbury, on the Oth instaut, a silver Geneva open face Watch, No. 5350, with a piece ot gold Albert attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Canterbury.— Bow- street, Feb. 24. Stolen on the 14th instant, from a gentleman in Coventry- street, St. Martin's, a gold Geneva hunting Watch, with gold cable pattern Albert Chain, wiih cross- bar, attached. By a woman, 23 years of age, 6 feet 5 incaes high, dark complexion BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of THOMAS JACKSON, alias GINGER, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with having, on the night of the 25th ultimo, feloniously broken into a lockup shop in the parish of Llanwchllyn, in the county of Merioneth, and stolen therein three Cheeses, two bundles of worsted Stockings, each bundle containing twelve pairs, and about 4 lbs. of Tobacco, in packages, ' W. O. Wills' on the paper : about 25 years of 8ge, 5 feet, 8 to 10 inches high, full fresh face, red curly hair, red whiskers and moustache ; dressed in cord trousers, dirty twilled loose slop, black cloth tap with peak, navvy boots, and red twilled neckerchief; he is a navvy, and is supposed to have gone to work on the Central Wales Railway in South Wales, in the Sugarloaf Tunnel, or on some public works about Cardiff, where he is supposed to be known. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Bala, Merionethshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 24. Between 12 p. m. on the 19th and 0 a m. on the 20th inst., the Liverpool Arms, Wellington- road, Rhyl, was entered by the tap room window, which had been left unfastened, and the following properly stolen therein : a blue pilot cloth Top Coat, with black buttons, black lining, pocket outside left breast, one inside right breast pocket, a pocket on right side at the bottom of the coat ; a grey cloth Top Coat, black buttons, two pockets outside, one inside on left breast; a black and white puce Scarf; a pair of white cotton Stockings ; a pair of lace- up Boots, with brass eyelet holes ; a grey flinnel Shirt, with puce, black, and white stripes. Supposed by a tramp, who left behind him a pair of old blucher boots and a pair of old blue woollen worsted socks. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire, North Wales.— — Bow- street, February 21. Between 7 p. m. on the 17th and 9 a. m. on the 18th inst., the lockup- shop belonging to Mr. Thomas Mallinson, watch- maker, of Lydgate, New Mill, Wooldale, near Holmfirth, was entered by means of forcing back the bolt of the door, and the following property stolen therein : 2 gold skeleton Geneva Watches, figured back, and with- out glasses, Nos. 4804, 51803. 1 old- fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 1792. 1 English silver lever Watch, with silver Guard attached. No. 5579. 1 silver Geneva Watch, with silver dial, No. 5365. 1 silver Geneva lever hunting Watch, No. 18913. 1 silver verge Watch, with plain back. No. 23897. 1 English silver lever Watch, No. 2644. 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 18087. 3 new silver Geneva Watclus makers Harris and Co., marked on dial, Nos. 32023, 33265, 20773, white dial. 1 silver Geneva Watch, with centre seconds, No. 2608. 7 silver Watches, viz : ( one lever and six Geneva), Nos. 7249, 768, 3559, 3309, 27188, 6012, and 16269. 1 large English lever Watch. 1 Geneva Watcb, with white dial, and brass dome. 1 Geneva lever Watch, with yellow centre. And a quantity of other Articles, consisting of albert Chains, Ear- rings, wedding Rings, dress Rings, , Brooches, Lockets, See. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, or to Inspector Nunn, West Riding Constabulary, Holmfirth.— Bow- st., February 21. On the night of the 13th instant, the house of Admiral Harding, Coventry- road, Warwick, was broken into, and two gold Seals s olen therein, one old fashioned, cornelian stone, crest— a boar, the other fine gold, bloodstone, crest— a shield filled with ermine. A reward will be paid on the recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or oflenders. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick. — Bow- street, February 19. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Baginton, near Coventry, on or about the 17th ultimo, a half- bred bay Mare, 6 years old, 17 hands high, black legs, white star on face, rather drooping ears, bang tail, and bocks slightly ca[_ ed, and has a peculiar j irking of the head when standing, md often when being ridden. £ 8 reward will be given by tbe Coventry Association for the prosecution of felons, upon the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Gallaway, Warwickshire Constabulary, Kenilworth.— Bow street, Febuary 24. Between 2 and 6 a. m. on the 21st inst., the dwelling- house of Edwin Stippisley, Esq., Wells, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : three electro- plated Salvers, two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S. P. R. ;' a Table Spoon, three Tea ditto, silver ; a silver Butter Knife, marked ' E. H. ;' a silver Cream Jug, with tbe inscription ' Presented to Edwin Stippisley by the Rev. W. Bennett.' Information to be given to Deputy Constable Bloxham, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Tucker, Wells.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen from a stable at Golds Green, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, between 10 p. m. the 12th, and 2 a. m. the 13th instant, the property of John Gosling, of Smethwick, a light bay Horse, about 9 years old, 14£ hands high, short mane, and switch tail, in good condition, and is branded on both sides of the neck, and on the near shoulder with the letters ' J. G. S.' £ 5 regard will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the horse, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Passey, Police Station, Smethwick, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from off the Common, near Abercage, in the parish of Darowen, two Donkeys, the property of Edward Evanes, of Abercage, one is a dark browu, 12 years old, the other is a lighter brown, 9 months old; a party of gipsies are suspected, who were encamping near the common the day before the robbery was commiued, Information to be given to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, or to Police Constable Thomas, Cemmes.— Bow- street, February 21. Turner, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, County Police Station, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 19. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of two men charged with stealing two Hams and a quantity of Bacon ( since recovered), at Poppleton, on the 29th instaut: WILLIAM HUGHES, alias CAPTAIN, a native of Yorkshire, 36 years ot age, 5 feet 5| inches high, sallow complexion, darn hair and eyes, round face, stout build, and dressed in cotton cord trousers, old green cloth j icket, dark cap, and old lace- up boots; and JOHN HUGHES, labourer, of York, brother to the above, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, thin face, little or no whiskers, slender build, and dressed in cotton cord trousers, old dark coloured cloth shooting jacket, dark cloth cap, and old lace- up boots. Information to be given to Super- intendent Kane, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster, York- shire.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen from Newbury, Berks, on the 21st instant, a working jeweller, about 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache, tooth out in front ; dressed in black and white scarf shawl ; he is charged with stealing a gold Chain, Watch & c., the property of Mr Stradling, his master. Information to be given to Superintendent Deane, Borough Police, Newbury.— Bom- street, February 24. Absconded from Westonstow, Salop, on the 17th instant, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 4 4s., the property of Jos. Tudor, his master ; JAMES YEAMONS, or YEOMANS, a labourer, about 22 years of age, 6 leet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, small tutt of hair on chin ; dressed in dark coat and vest, corduroy trousers, and black billycock hat, all very much worn ; he is a native of Cressage, Salop. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, Salop, who holds a warrant for li s apprehension.— Bou>- slreet, February 24. A woman absconded from her lodgings, No. 43, Northgate- street, Gloucester, on the morning of the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing and taking away with her, an old small sized silver Geneva Watch, silver dial ( discoloured); a white chip Bonnet, trimmed with black velvet aud flowers; a white tucked Skirt; a pair of white Cuffs; a woman's purple striped woollen garibaldi Jacket; a do. cashmere, trimmed with black and white braid ; a black clotn Jacket, trimmed with black alpaca braid ; a black and white plaid woollen Cloak ; the property of Mr. Gardener. She is about 27 years of age, o feet 3 inches high, stout made, large full face, small nose, and round features ; dressed in a wtnte chip bonnet, a green French merino dress, dark wat- rproof cloak or black mantle. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen on the 17th instant, by a young woman named ELIZABETH ROGERSON, from the house of John Hadfield, farmer, at Bramall, Cheshire, £ 10 in Gold, 3s. 6d. in Silver, an old gold Ring, and 2 old watch Seals, the property ot Mr. Hadfield : she is 22 or 23 years ot age. about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, full face, very fresh complexion, slightly - pock- marked across the nose* Has been traced to No* 2, Clement* 2 . Absconded from Cirencester on the 13th inst., charged with stealing ten jovereignf, a Florin, a flannel Petticoat, a pair of women's Boots, a pair of Handkerchief, the property SAUNDERS, 22 years of age, rather short, very stout, dark brown hair, pale complexion, walks lame with the right leg ; dressed in a hlue stuff old dress, plaid shawl with violet stripes, a straw bonnet trimmed with red ribbop, lookB very dirty ; she is a native of Brokenboro, Wilts, where her parents reside ; she is supposed to be wearing the stolen articles, as she left her old clothing behind. Mary's Fen, about 1 p. m. on the 19th instant, a pair of light high Tops, with patent fronts, and brass eyelet holes, and b und with blue : by a man, * bout 23 years of age. 6 feet 7 inches high, light hair, little or no whiskers, and large scar on chin ; dressed iu black cloth coat, snuff coloured trousers, black chimney hat, blucher boots, and states tbat he was a grocer and draper, and that be had an uncle a chemist and druggist at Whittl aey. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockney Elin road, Wisbech, Isle of Ely, who holds a war- rant for his apprehensi'on.— Bow- street, February 24 Stolen from a dwelling- house at Tilly, iu the parish of Wem, cjalop, during the night of the 22nd instant, the pro- perty of John Morris, a German silver Watch, with steel curb chain, two keys, two seals, and a small white shell attached. By a man, who gave the name ot THOMAS BODGER, a tramping blacksmith, who had lodged in the house and absconded during the night, about 23 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches hi^ h, stout build, pale complexion, light brown hair, Snail light whiskers, and dressed in round moleskin j icket, waistcoa', and trousers, jimcrow hat, and two odd boots, one with seven rows of heavy hob na Is, the otber with seven rows of small sprigs. Absconded on the 11th instant, from No. 43 Boundary- road, St John's Wood, stealing £ 5 : a woman, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in black shawl, dress, and bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, February 21. Description of WILLIAM DONALD McBEAN, * ho has absconded, and for wh.. ee apprehension a warrant hits bten issued, charged with embezzlement at Worcester : he is a native of Scotland, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches high, dark b own hair, no whiskers, has lost one front tooth in upper jaw, very slender figure, and walks erect, with a quick step. Information to be given to Superintendent Phillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Low- street, February 21. Description of CHARLES RAVEN, a journeyman baker, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with embezzlement : he is 32 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair parted behind, black whiskers under the chin, and very smart appearance ; dressed in grey mixture tweed trousers, coat and vest, light brown overc at, and low flat- crowned hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Rogers, Police Station, Reigate, Surrey.— Bow- street, February 19. 24th instant, charged with forgery, pass'; ig forged cheques, a obtaining goods under false pretences, and who have forashtf^/ time resided at Clarence Cottage, Swanage, under the name " J. T. HOWARD, Esq , the woman passing as bis wife. TJ>; man is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, fair co^ plexion, blue eyes, brown hair, light whiskers, rather sto& f figure, and very genteel appearance ; he has used the names LEE, CHARLES WICKES, and various other aliases. V> his possession were found several cheque books and IDo^ f cheques of various banks, viz : National Provincial Bank 0 England ( Marylebone Branch) ; Bilston Distric Banking C"'#' Wolverhampton ; Messrs. Bunney, Slocock, and Co., Newbury ' Messrs. Hedges, Wells, and Co., Wallingford ; John MortloC^ and Co., Cambridge ; London and County Bink, PetwortlJ' ditto, Gravesend ; ditto. Kensington ; Messrs. Bacon, Cobbol<>; Rod well, and Cobbold, Ipswich ; Messrs. Randall, Maidstone ' and various other banks. He has subsisted by these practic^ ® in different paits of England since 18' 51.
