CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received ir cases of Felony and of Misdemeanor* of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, I) ress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 4437 MONDAY, JULY 22, 1867. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose oi obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE! GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article is the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that tha Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Further information respecting GEORGE MOORE, alias GEORGE JOHNSON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th ultimo. A reward of £ 50 « ill be paid for his apprehen- sion. He is charged with having at Worksop, Notts, on the night of the 1st ultimo,, feloniously utabbed, cut, and wounded with intent to kill and murder, William Taylor : about 22 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 6 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, freckled, and rather good locking ( not pock pitted, as pre- viously fctited) ; dressed in black cloth suit and black billycock bat: in a native of Reiford, Notts, and will probably endeavour to obtain employment at a colliery or brickyard. Information to be given to Captain Holden, Chief Constable, Court House, Nottingham, or to Superintendent Winant, County Con7 gtabnlary, Worksop, Notts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 16. Description of MICHAEL BURKE, charged with causing the death ot Mark Mitchell, in the township of Elton, near Bury, Lancashire, on the 27th ultimo : about 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 VT 6 inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair cut short behind, grey eyes, very large mouth, thick lips, and large ears which stHnd out prominently. head inclines forward, slight bear on forehead ; is a bricklayer's labourer. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Milne, Police Office, Town- hall. Bury, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and who will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, July 15. FORGERY. Absconded from the borough of Northampton, charged with forgery, JOHN EAST, late of St. Johu's- lnne, currier, about 46 years of age, 6 feet 4 inche* high, fair complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair, small sandy whUkers, round full face, short neck, and very stout. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person apprehending him, or to any one giving such infor- mation as shall lead thereto. Information to be given to Chief Constable Iteenan, Borough Police Office, Northampton. Bow- street, July 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 14th instant, a large silver lever Watch, maker Levi Abrams, No. 4387, ' Benjamin Morgan' engraved on inner case,' B. M.' engraved on outer ; was offered for sale at Trowbridge on the 16th instant by a man, about 25 years of age, short and stout, light hair, seemed stiff- necked, slouching gait ; dressed in a dirty Blop with band, and old jiin- crow hat; had the appearance of a farmer's labourer. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Sale Moor Station, on the evening of the 7th instant, a g ild lever Watch, with white face, Frankport maker. No. 4033, has ' Une inontre a cylindre' " engraved on the back of it. Description of a man committed for trial for stealing the same, but the watch is not recovered : WILLIAM EDWARDS ( supposed fictitious) 0f Ford- street, Salford, but only recently returned from America, 5 leet 10 inches high, swarthy* complexion, black hair dark eyes, no whiskers or moustache, and ot good address ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes, and billycock hat. Supposed to have been previously convicted. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Britnor, or to Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from the person of Benjamin Morgan, on the 14th instant, a large pair- cased silver Watch, maker Levi Ahrams. jyo. 4387, M.' engraved on outer case, ' Benjin. Morgan,' on hirer cse. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Richardson, or to Sergeant Christie, Wellington, Salop.— Sow- street, July 17. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Stubbs, of B - sIey, near Macch sfield, was broken and entered, during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : 1 man's black cloth Coat, 1 pair of black cloth Trousers. 1 light coloured Vest, 1 woman's black silk Jacket. Information to he given to Superintendent Williamson, County Constabulary Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire. — Bow- street, July 22. The counting- house of the Stone Company, at Godstone, was entered between 6 and 7 a. m. on the 20th instant, and the following property stolen : a bright single- barrelled Gun, two ferules recently put on to hold ramrod ; a hand Lamp, opens at top, and unscrews at bottom ; a paraffin Lamp ; a pair of brass letter Scales and Weights ; an old drab Waistcoat; a bronze powder Flask ; and a leather shot Flask. Supposed by two men, one dnving an old chaise, the other a cart, with a brown and a bay horse; they were traced to Croydon, and are supposed to have gone in the direction of Woolwich ; they bad the appearance of low horse dealers, one having a small moustache, and wearing a high crowned white hat with a black band round it. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hollington, Surrey County Constabulary, Godstone. — Bow- street, July 22. Between 10 p. m. on the 16th &><< l C a. m. on the 17th instant, thn dwelling house of Mr. J. Bonson, grocer, Milburn, Westmoreland, was burglariously entered, and stohn therefiom: a tin Percussion- cap Box, containing about £ 2 in Silver ; a Sovereign, out of a wooden box in a cupboard, which was lock. d tbe previous night and found in the same state next morn'tig ; and a Match- box. Information to be given to Superinten dent Parks, Appleby, Westmoreland, or at the Couuty Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Boto- Ureet, July 22. Stolen by roears of housebreaking, at Glynmorlas, Salop, on the I2ih instant, a stiver Geneva Watch, white dial, with blue ring on the back of case, a black silk Guard attached. Supposed by a Man who absconded from GlynmorJas : 2- 3 years ot age ( looks younger), 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, slight cast in one eye ; dressed in light cord trousers, old velvet j . cket, blue cloth vest, and cap. He has been previously convicted » f stealing a watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, July 19. During the night of'. f • 1 instant, the factory of Messrs. Holloway, Brotlieis, of Stij. mi, outfitters, was entered, and the following piopertv stolen ti, ivtrom : fifteen pairs of Trousers ( since recovered), and » ix d mble- breasted cord Vests, flaps to the pockets, and tiuished all but stitching, round the edges. Alto stolen, from a bakehouse adjoining, an old Jacket and two old Ve- ts. On the morning « . f tile 14th instant a man of the following description took & c. ttage in Gloucester, in which he lelt a bundle, a. id took the. key away with him, stating he was going to| Chelienhatn for hi- > i! e ; not returning, on tbe 16tl> the door was broken t. puu, and the trousers mentioned above, one of the old vests stolen trom the bakehouse, and an old cornet, broken at the luouilipiece, found in tbe bundle: he is a foreigner ( said » Frenchman), about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, red face, light hair and whiskets, sandy on the chin, and thin stature ; dressed in a black coat, light vest, cord trousers, and jnucrow hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Haubidge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow- strect, July 17. During the night of the 11th instant, a house in Cardiff waB entered and the following articles stolen therefrom : a pair of men's elastic side boots, two pairs of boy's ditto, and 12s. 3d. in money ; there is a small bit let in under the toe of one of the boy's hoots. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, July 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Weddington Farm, Uphavon, Wilts, on the night of the 19th instant, a chesuut Mare, 3 years old, white star on forehead, hind shoes off; the property of Mr. William Rownen. Information to be given to Superintendent Stretten, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- urea, Julv 22. Stolen from a meadow at Cooling Common, near Cliffe, Gravesend, on the lOih instant, a brown mare Pony, the property of Mathew Court, of Gravesend, about 12£ hands high, supposed marked ' S. H.' on one side, prominent eyes, long tail, about 8 years old, slightly chipped on knees. Infor- n ation to be given to Superintendent Everest, Chatham.— Bow street, July 22. Stolen Irom a field near , Buttershaw Church, in the township of North Bierley, on the 11th instant, a bay cart Mare, 6 years old, 16 hands high, three white leg*, white mark down forehead, switch tail, the property of William North, saddler, Wibseybankfoot, Bradford. Information to be given to Superintendent Bill, Court House, Bradford, York- shire.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen between the 27th and 29th ultimo, from a sheep fold on West Ilsley Downs, Berks, a ewe Teg, South Down breed, small size, in low condition, just shorn, has a scar on the off shoulder, and a slight trace of a ruddle mark between the shoulders. Stolen from a meadow in tbe parish of Wivelsfield, Sussex, the property of Mrs. Mary Ann Tugwell, grocer and draper, during the night of the 19th instant : a dark brown cob Horse, 16 hands bi^ h, 13 years old, white star on forehead, short switch tail, hair rubbed off the near fetlock from rubbing one foot against the other, and in good condition. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a harness room in the parish of Dilchling, the property of Mr. Sturt Gosling : 1 light chaise Harness, complete, brass mounted ; 1 Collar and 1 harness Bridle, new. brass mounted ; tbe back part of an ojd Harness; 1 riding Saddle, spring stirrups; 1 double rein Bridle, nearly new ; and 1 single rein Bridle, old. Stolen during the night of the 19th instant, from a cart lodge in the parish of Ardingly, the property of Henry Carter, beer- house keeper : 1 light spring Cart, painted brown colour, picked out with red, has lately had new shafts, which are painted plain ; 1 single- barrel Gun, liss been broken near the trigger, and has be- n repaired tiy a piece of iron being set in the stock, and 1 fi- gallon iron B tiler. By two men of the following description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 0 inches high, light complexion and hair, little or no whiskers, and stout figure ; dressed in light coat and trousers fitting tight to the legs, and light coloured round hat. The other from 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 0 inches high, light hair and complexion, slight whiskers, and stout figure ; drtssed in blue livery coat with bright buttons, worsted cord trousers, and white high crown hat. Information to he given to Superintendent Akehurst, Police Station, Cuckfield ; the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; or at any Police Station in Eist Sussex.— Bow- street, July 22. Further information respecting the mare stolen from Henry's Moat, near Maeaclochog, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th instant: the near hind leg has be^ n bad gume time, and appears to be a little larger than the other as the bair stands on end from a blister, a small white saddle mark on back. The suspected man was seen leaving the down train from Carmarthen at Clarbeston- road Station a', 7 p. m. on the IOth instant, with a cart bridle in his hand, and jt is sup* posed that he sold the mare at Carmarthen Fair: he is rouad shouldered, dark complexion, brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed in a blue frock coat, corduroy breeches and leggings, black round low crowned bat. Stolen from a field in the township of Acton, near Nant- wich, Cheshire, oil the night of the 7th instant, a large light coloured gelding Donkey, 0 or 7 years old, turns the right foot out, sand crocks in fore feet, the property of John Whitticase. Inhumation to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- strcct, July 19. Stolen between 11 p. m. on the 11th snd 4 a. m. on the 12ih instant, from a stable in Langdale- road, Peckham : a black Mare, 14 hands high, in good condition ; a large spring Cart, painted olive ; a set of plated cart Harness; a pair of brass Hames ; a set of brass mounted cart Harness, initials * F. B.'— Metropolitan Police, P Division, July 19. Stolen between 10 p. m. on the 14th and 5 a. m. on the 15th instant, from No. 726, Old Kent- road : a dark brown Mare, 6 years old. 15 hands 2 inches high, black legs, switch tail, in good condition, knees chipped ; a set of brass mounted Harness,' S' on blinkers ; a brown Cart picked out with red, Collius' patent axle- tree, one cap deficient, near shaft broken, • Geo. Wieldon, Rodney- row, New Kent- road,' on off shaft. Supposed by two men : one, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, no whiskers ; dressed in black cut- away coat and grey mixture trousers and cap : the other, 30 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high ; dressed in black frock coat and billycock hat : have the appearauce of horse copers.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, July 19. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of North Mimms, the property of Mr. James Freeman, a bay Mare, aged, 14 hands high, white star on the forehead, hair chafed off at the back of the ears from the rubbing of the bridle, has been fired on the near fore leg, scar of broken knee on S'me leg, has also been fired on the off hind leg, white fetlock, and h » s a short switch tail. Information to be given to Inspector Isgate, Police Station, Hatfield, Herts.— Bow- street, July 17. Stolen from a field in the parish of Hartley Wintney, Hants, on the 15ih instant, a dark brown mare Pony, 13 hands high, 6 years old, switch tail, light legs, rather large barrell, from being on grass. Information to be given to Superintendent Howard, Odiham, Hants.— Bow- street, July 17. During the night of the 12th instant, a Sheep, the pro- perty of Mr. G. Wellard, butcher, of George- street, in the borough of Hastings, was slaughtered in a field near the Old London- road, in the said borough, and a leg and the liver of the said animal stolen. A reward of £ 1 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender and offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, July 17. Stolen from a field on Pig Lane Farm, Great Barr, on the night of the 10th instant, a very dark brown Mare, 6 years old, with fired hocks. A reward of 10 guineas will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Absconded on the 15tli instant, from No. 63, Fair street, Horselydown, emhezzling £ 10, a j oung man, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, siout build, lair complexion, brown hair; dressed in grev coat, cord trousers and drab billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, July 22. Description of JOHN EDWARD INGLE, late agent to Mr. C. P. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Riddiford, Constabu- lary Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 22. j Stolen on the morning of the 21st instant, from a tramps lodging- bouse, Huntingdon, a Hall- Crown, a Florin, two Shillings, two pieces of Bacon, and some small parcels of Grocery, belonging to other lodgers. By a sailor tramp, who slept there : about 30 years of age, 6 feet 8J inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed iu a round flit blue cap, two blue serge flannel?, dark mixture trou- ers, and old shoes cut on the side. Information to be given to Superintendent Marson, Huntingdon.— Box- street, July 22. Stolen on the morning of the 20th instant, from a cottage at Ford, near Leominster, a dark red plush Vest, rose pattern, has a small hole burnt iu one of tho pockets, and a snuff- coloured satin Neckerchief, wiih blue and white stripe in it By a man who tlept in the house : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers, shufflmg gait; dressed in black billycock hat with a leathern band round it, dirty plush vest with sleeves, cold or moleskin trouseis, lace- up boots, with pieces nailed on the toes, both boots cut open down to the toes ; stated he bad lately been in the employ of Mr Holloway, of Hampton Wafer, and that he was a native of Stoke Lacey. Stolen on the 18th instant, from Newton Villas, Lonsdald- road, Barnes : A i- ilver hunting Watob, No. 47 | 2547, maker Jacobs. A black silk Guard. A gold Pencil Case. A gold Seal, A Locket with portrait of a female, and a common watch key, attached A while Btraw Bonnet, trimmed with white tulle, and white velvet strings. A black silk Jacket, trimmed with beads. A pair of dark coloured kid Gloves. A hiack lace Veil. A small crystal Brooch. A brown morocco leather Purse, containing 18s. in Bilver and 6d. in coppers. By a female, 17 years of age, looks older, 4 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, very stout; dressed in a light Cotton frock, brown jacket ( imitation seal skin), black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet, old boots, or may be wearing the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Police, Division, July 22. Stolen from the ' Star' hotel, Southampton, about 5 p. m. on the 17th instant, a leather Case, containing samples of Spectacles and Holders, and about 100 gold double Eye glasses for ladies; by three Germans ( two of whom have been appre- hended) ; the third one ( supposed to have left, fur London with the property), is named SILGARBECK, about 30 years of age, gi od- loi king, 5 feet 8 inches high, daik complexion, and black whiskers and moustache. It is supposed he will offer the eye glasses for sale or pawn in London.
