Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, (^ stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person rfifUiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. Q. Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well aa those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Further information respecting GEORGE MOORE, alias GEORGE JOHNSON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th ultimo. A reward of £ 50 will be paid for his apprehen- sion. He is charged with having at Worksop, Notts, on the night of the lst ultimo, feloniously otabbed, cut, and wounded • with intent to kill and murder, William Taylor : about 22 years of age, 6 feet 5 or G inches high, rather stout, dark brown'hair, freckled, and rather good looking ( not pockpitted, as pre- viously stated) ; dressed in black cloth suit and black billycock hat: is a native of Retford, Notts, and will probably endeavour to obtain employment at a colliery or brickyard. Information to be given to Captain Holden, Chief Constable, Court House, Nottingham, or to Superintendent Winant, County Con- stabulary, Worksop, Notts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 15. Description of MICHAEL BURKE, charged with causing the death of Mark Mitchell, in the township of Elton, near Bury, Lancashire, on the 27th ultimo : about 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 or G inches higb, sallow complexion, light brown hair cut short behind, grey eyes, very large mouth, thick lips, aud large ears which stand out prominently, head inclines forward, slight scar on forehead ; is a bricklayer's labourer. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Milne, Police Office, Town- hall, Bury, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and who will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, July 15. Further information respecting the dead Body of a newly- born male Child, found in the Monkwearmouth and Fulwell Cemetery, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant. A woman uamed MARGARET CHARLTON, has 1 een apprehended at Monkivearmouth. Information to be given to Superintendent Salter, Jarrow- on- Tyne, Durham.— Bow- street, July 12. Description of a gentlamen, WILLIAM STANDISH CARR STANDISH, late of Duxbury Hall, near Chorley, who absconded on the 9th instant, chatged upon a warrant * yith shouting, with intent to murder : he is about 30 years of • j^- j, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches higb, rather fresh complexion, thin face, dark brown hair, dark eyes, whiskers recently shaved off, light and active, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in a suit of grey clothes, aud Scotch cap with two black ribbons behind. He was accompanied by another gentleman, from 40 to 60 years of age, about 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high ; he was dressed in a suit of light grey clothes, and soft billycock hat. It is supposed that they will make for some seaport, for the purpose ol leaving the c > untry. Information to be given to Superintendent Beetham, County Constabulary Office, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- sircet, July 10. About 8 30 p. m. on the " 4th instant, a man entered the shop of Mr. Vaughan, watchmaker and jeweller, No. 25, Bath- street, Bristol, and asked to purchase a watch key, and while being served by Mr. Vaughan made a mutderous attack upon him, striking him on the head with a life- preserver or other blunt instrument, and stole from the shop window the following property : Rmgs— A half- hoop diamond, five stones, about carats; a ruby and diamond, about 4 grains; four single stone diamond, 1}, 2. J, 3), and 5 grains ; two cluster diamond, one with fifteen stones, about 3) carats, the other with thirty- nine stones ; a turquoise and diamond, gipsy pattern ; a lialf- hoop diamond, five stones, 4 grains ( second hand) ; a cluster opal and diamond ; and an enamelled mourning single stone diamoiid. Pin— A diamond breast, Brunswick star pattern. Albert Chains— A coloured gold drop, small close fluted curb pattern, 14 dwts. 23 grs.; a ditto, 13 dwts. 20 grs.; a ditto, cable pattern, bar link, 19 dwts. 18 grs.; a ditto, fancy pattern, 1 oz, 6 dwts, 13 grs,; a ditto, twisted cable pattern, fluted links, 1 oz. 3 dwts.; a ditto, open curb, plain, 17 dwts. 6 grs.; a ditto, twisted fetter pattern, 1 oz. 7 dwts. 16grB. ; a ditto, Alexandria pattern, 1 oz. 11 dwts. 10 grs. ; and a ditto, plain curb, close links, 2oz. 2 dwts. Lockets— A plain coloured gold Locket, with enamelled Brunswick star and diamond ( 2 j grains) in centre, and box for portrait ; a coloured gold engraved ditto, with cross, inlaid with turquoise, has two boxes for portraits; a coloured gold ditto, with raised shield, and a bar of pearls across it, has two boxes for portraits. Description of the offender : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight made, sharp features, clean shaved ; dressed in slate- coloured close fitting coat buttoned up to cbin with pockets at side, and soft black felt hat. £ 60 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender, and £ 60 for information that shall lead to the recovery of the whole of the stolen property, or in proportion to the value of the property recovered. Absconded firm Csmbridge, charged with uttering and forging a Bill of Exchange, knowing the same to be forged : GEORGE ETCHES MILLS, a builder, he is from 35 to 40 years of age, alout 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light hair, and long light whiskers ; a bankrupt. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge, who holds a wariaut for his apprehension— Bow- street, July 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 11th instant, a house in Cardiff was entered and ihe following articles stolen therefrom : a pair of men's elastic side I <> ots, two pairs of boy's ditto, and 12s. 3d. in money ; there is a small bit let in under the toe of one of the boy's boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff. Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, July 16. Between 12 midnight, 7th, and 6 a. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Richard Mawson, farmer, Markington, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a pair of men's lace- up Boots, brass eyelets, newly soled, and iron plated heels ; a pair of large size Scissors, nearly new ; a brass Tobacco Box; a snail quantity of Rice ; and 6 Eggs. In the room where Ihe plate was stolen from, was left behind, by the offender or offendeis i females pepper and salt tweed jacket, trimmed wiih black worsted braid, and a row of 4- hole white pearl buttons down the front, and an old black woollen shawl with black silk border and white piping cord. Information to be given to Head Constable Eason, Wisbech, Isle of Ely.— Bow- sweet, July 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between 9 p. m. on the 9th and 4 a. m. on the lOih instant, from a field at. Lyth, a light bay cob Pony, 6 years old, about 14 hands high, white spot on forehead, small lump on near hind foot, and some angle berries on sheath and about the flank. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable flibberd, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Westmoreland.— Bow- street, July 15. Stolen from Wotton, on the 28th ultimo, a dark brown mare Pony, 12 hands high, tail cut square at the hocks. Also on the 12th instant, a bay Horse with white streak in forehead, hair rubbed off the foot having been fettered. Also a dark bay Pony, 14 hands high, sore on the neck caused by collar. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a field near Aylesbury, an iron grey 3 year old nag Colt, 14 hands high, and in rather low condition, also a cliesnut mare Colt, rising 3 years old, 14£ hands higb, white hind foot, white blaze down the face, and long inane aud tail. £ 6 reward will be paid on recovery of the colts aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a field at Holling's- lane, Warley, on the 9th instant, a valuable bay Colt, about 16 hands higb, 3 years old, well bred, black legs, in good condition, star on forehead, and a white mark j above the hoof of one forefoot. Information to le given to superintendent Copeland, West Riding Con- stabulary, Hali' .— How- street, July 15. Stolen frori Holywell, about three week ago, a stallion Donkey, black . lour, has a white muzzle, small white spot under the collar in right side, saddle marks on the back, and his tail has bee., recently trimmed. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, July 16. Stolen from a field on Pig Lane Farm, Great Barr, ozi the night of the 10th instant, a very dark brown Mare, 6 years old, with fired hocks. A reward of 10 guineas will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Further information respecting the Donkey stolen from a field at Shottalon, Salop ( advertized in the Police Gazette of the lst instant) : a man who can be identified, was seen making bis way for Bowmer Heath, Ellerdine, Hinstock, and may go into the Stafford potteries, Wolverhampton, B lston, and neighuourhood : he is 25 years of age, 6 feet 9 ins. high} dressed a, a besom maker or gipsy, and has that appearance. The donkey has a very pecular way of lifting the near hind leg when walking, and can be identified. Infor- mation to be given to Detective Sergeant Dovey, West Felton, Salop.— Bow- street, July 12. The light bay mare Pony stolen from a field at Shark's Lodge, in the parish of Haddon ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant), has been recovered. Two men of the following description, who were inquiring the way to Bedford, are charged with stealing the same : one is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches higb, dark whiskers meeting under the chin, and dressed in a blue stuff coat ( butcher's), tight- fitting cord trousers, and dark grey cap with peak ; the other is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sandy whiskers, dark coat, tight- fitting cord trousers, and Scotch cap with tassel. Stolen from the premises of Mr. Lawson, in the parish of Tunbridge, during the night of the 9th instant, a light chesnut cart Horse, about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, long manp and tail, about 14 years old. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Keut Constabulary, Police Court, Tunbridge.— Bow- street, July 12. Supposc- d to have been stolen from a field in the parish of North Crawley, Buckinghamshire, on the night of the 6th instant, a brown- faced Lamb, marked * B. W.' on the near side, the property of Benjamin Ward, of North Crawley, farmer. Information to be given to Inspector Hedley, Police Station, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- strect, July 10. Found at Brown Candover, near Alresford, Hants, and supposed to have been stolen, a grey gelding Pony, 11^ hands high, aged, in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Everitt, Winchester, or to Sergeant Bennett, Hants Constabulary, Alresford.— Bow- street, July 10. Supposed stolen during the night of the 7th instant, a bay cob Horse, aged, about 14 hands high, small white star on fore- head, goes wide behind, short switch tail,— from the parish of Lyonshall, the property of John Howells. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Kington, Herefordshire.— Bow- strect, July 10. Supposed stolen, from a field at the Oaks Farm, near Pontesbury, between 9 a m. on the 27th and 9 a. m. on the 28th ultimo, a Shropshire Down bred ewe Sheep, in good condition, marked on right side with the letter ' B.' £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. W. Bellingham, the owner, on apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Jones, County Constabulary, Donington, Salop.— Bow- street, July 10. Found, supposed to have been stolen, on the 2Gth ultimo, at Wittenhall, a black cart Mare, about 6 yeats old, 14| hands high, small white star on forehead, and in good condition, has recently been blistered under the near ear, and has a wart or sore inside the near hind leg. Information to be given to Superintendent Gwynne, Tarporley, or to Police Constable Edgar, Cotebrook.— Bow- street, July 10. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant, from a field in the Augusta- road, Edgbaston, near Birmingham, a dark brown cop Gelding, 14 hands high, 8 years old, has a white star on fore- head, and little wbite on the off hind fetlock. A reward of 2 guineas will be paid on its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to the owner, Mr. Harrison, Hagley- road, Edgbaston.— Bow- street, July 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of man named HENRY JEFFCOTT, alias MACGORREN, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with embezzlement: he is 18 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, blue eyes, very pale complexion, slight build, top of little finger on right hand turns in, and dressed in black cloth coat, bound with braid, pockets on hips, light trousers and vest, and brown felt hat, round crown. Absconded, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, the property of his masters, Messrs. Dell and Co, watchmakers, Broad- street, Bristol : ROBERT PEEL, lias been employed as traveller, 25 years of age, 6 feet high, rather slight build", light complexion, slight whiskers and moustache, cut short, stoops a little when walking, and turns his toes out ; dressed in dark coat, elastic- side boots, and low- crowned hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street July 15. Absconded on" the 4th instant, from No. 3, Grey Coat- place, Westminster, stealing £ 8 2s. : a man, 24 years^ of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, tuft on chin; dressed in blue smock, dark tweed trousers, lace boots, and light stitched hat.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, July 12. Absconded fiom Kingston- upon- Hull on the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing a Sewing Machine, the property of Adum Shand: a German tailor, named GOODMAN, 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches higb, very broad face, dark complexion, and has a cast in one eye. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Hull, who hold9 a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen on the Gth instant, from 9, Charles street, Black- friars- road, a silver verge Watch, open face, glass broken, common Chain and Seal attached, makers Chasty and Bond, Oakhampton ; a pair of side- spring Boots. By a man, 25 years of age, fair complexion and hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in dark clothes and cap.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, July 12. Stolen from Hertford, on the 11th instant, 4 gold Watches ( since recovered) : by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather stout, dark complexion, full face, and whiskers shaved off; dressed in dark cloth coat and waistcoat, black aud grey striped trousers, and black bat. Had in his possession a silver Geneva Watch, ' No. 102888,' on the case, a gold albert Chain with a gold Coin attached. He is supposed to be a foreigner, and speaka broken English. Wharf- street, Godalming, Surrey, embezzling upwards of £ 6 10s. : WILLIAM EDWARDS, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in a white smock frock, black cloth cap, Wellington boots, hud with him a black cloth coat. A female, 16 years of age, very tall for her age, fair complexion and hair, laige blue eyes ; dressed in a light mohair frock with white bead trimming, grey wateiprogf cloak, drab straw bonnet trimmed with mauve, a short black silk cloak trimpied with bead trimmings, kid boots with fancy fronts and brasa tips to heels, black paiMsol. Stolen a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. 47963 and £ 3 10s. IU Gold and Silver. By a man, 20 years of age, 6 feet 0 inches high, fresh complexion, liutu brown hiitir, front teeth decayed ; dressed in black coat « nd waistcoat, Bedford cjrd trousers, and high black liat.— Metropolitan Policc, A Division, July 12. Absconded on the 4th instant from the borough of Black- burn. WILLIAM BRADSHAW, alia, SYKES, HARRISON, HOWLLS, HANCHER, & c, and fur whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charging biin with having on the 29 h ultimo, fraudulently obtained from Messrs. Christian Bernin and Brother, of Cross Church street, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, a quantity of Bacon, which has been found at Wigan Railway Station, consigned to Bradshaw iu the name of Hencher. lie is 26 or 27 years f « ge, 6 feet 5 to 7 inches high, proportionately made, oval face ginger whiskers; may be dressed in black and white plaid coat, vest, and trousers, but carries with him another suit ot clothes. He travels from town to town ordering goods, describing Himself as a fruit and provision dealer, and, as in the present instance, on receiving the goods re packs them and ends them to another town, consigned in a fictitious name, lie is accompanied by a woman and a boy, 3 or 4 years of age. l'hey take furnished lodgings, aud give the address of such lo icings as their place of business. Absconded from Ipswich on ihe 29 h ultimo, charged with stealing a black cloth Coat, machine made, butt sleeve linings, two pockets ouside with flaps, one ouisiile breast pocket, and lined with alpaca, the property ot Robert Buckingham: ALFRED MUDD, 20 years of age about 5 feet 5 or 6 incheB high, whiskers shaved off, hair inclined to be sandy ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes aud wideawa1 e bat. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Town- hall, Ipswich, who hoido . a warrant fur his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 10. Description of a man charged with stealing a yard of Elastic, for boot, sides, and a quantity of shoemaker's Tools, including heel and sole Irons, from Matthew Kneeshaw, shqe- maker, Castleton, in the parish of Dan by. iu the Nori h Riding of Yorkshire, on the 4th ins! nt : 32 or 33 years ot age, 6 teet 2 or 3 inches high, stout built, ftitr complexion, ginger hair and whiskers, is a shoemaker, and a Scotchman, and had been working for Mr. Kneeshaw some few days ; dressed in an old dark cloth cap, old brown cloth coat, and dark cloth trousers, had on a leather apron, and vej y often hanging down. He is a very drunken character, carries a tin whistle with him, upon ivhiuh he plays for drink, and often works in out of the way villages. Description of a man charged with stealing from a Tem- perance Hotel at Doncaster, a lady's black woollen poplin JucKgt, lined with alpaca, faced witti quilted ails, and has jet buttons on : about 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight make, ruddy complexion, fawn freckled, lost several fingers of one of his hands, has a dark mark on middle finger of other hand ; dressed in dark clothes aud patent leather boots, aud carries a satchel slung over his shoulder, tie stayed at the hotel three days and absconded, leaving his bill unpaid. From a barn at Line- ends, Revidge, on the 26th, a ribbed fustian Jacket, with large brown horn buttons, man's size, nearly new, the property of John Ormrod, labourer ; it has since been recovered, found pledged, by a man who gave the name of JOHN KELLY, Grimshaw- park : he is from 50 to 54 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, grey hair, sallow complexion ; dressed in a white linen jacket, old black vest and trousers, black billycock hat, and old shoes. He is sup- posed to be a man named JOHN GALLAGHER, who formerly resided in Sawyer's- court, Mount- street, and was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for stealing a jacket 2 years ago, and is charged on coinmiment for fraudulently removing goods.
