Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the putpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 4413 MONDAY, MAY 27, 1867. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, tho Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. \ m Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tho Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mUBt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," aa they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 17th instant a boat was picked up near Dungeness, full of water, with the dead body of a man at the bottom, by the brig ' Alfred,' of Sunderland, master J. Reece, who states that the man's face was very much disfigured and eyes blackened, apparently had been much illused ; when they made fast the boat, the body washed over the stern and was seen no more. The ship's name had been scraped off the boat outside ; inside the stern was the name ' George Wm. Robin- son in black paint; supposed to belong to Goole or Hull. The boat is painted green outside with a white streak round the gunwale, and lead colour inside. The body was dressed in blue serge shirt, black trousers, had a belt round it with a sheath but no knife ; and he is supposed to have been murdered by some of the crew of the ship to which the boat belonged. The boat was stolen from the schooner ' Howden,' of Goole, during the absence of the master, George William Robinson, at Lydd, on the 16th instant; also a Chronometer, a Sextant, a gilt Watch, a gold Chain, and several other articles. By three of the crew : one, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, long straight hair, no whiskers ; dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket Bnd trousers, black curly Elsinore cap, and Wellington boots with a piece of copper on one heel; a native of Jersey or Guernsey ; another, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, a few dark whiskers ; dressed in pilot cloth coat and trousers, and blue cap ; a native of Peterborough : the other, 21 years of age, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket lined with blanketting, and Scotch bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent English, Police Station, Seabrook, or to Super- intendent Dewar, Police Station, Ashford, Kent.— Bow- street, May 24. FORGERY. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a man, of the following description, charged with uttering forged Cheques at Aldershot, Hants, on the 20th instant, on Messrs. Cox and Co., Bankers, London, in tbe name of Thomas F. Glancey, Lieut., Royal Engineers : about 26 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, moustache, and whiskers rather early, and dressed in a black melton coat, light striped trousers and vest, black low crowned felt hat, marked inside • Harrogate' in gold letters, also a private mark, all new ; his name is supposed to be BARBER, and was formerly a Lieu- tenant in the Engineers, and was convicted oi forgery in Scotland two years since, and sentenced to twelve months imprisonment. Information to be given to Superintendent Howard, Hants Constabulary, Odiham.— Bow- street, May 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen on the 22nd instant, from gentlemen on Epsom Downs: 1 double- case patent silver lever Watch, « T. D. V.' en- graved on outside case. A single- case silver Watch, white face, seconds hand. A gold Geneva Watch, flowered back, white face, back rather pushed up. A gold open- face Watch, white dial, maker Roberts, Shrewsbury. A gold hunting Watch, white dial, makers Martin and Baskett, Cheltenham, with gold single bar Albert Chain, and Locket with hair attached. A gold patent lever hunting Watch, white dial, makers E. and E. Emanuel, Portsea, bearing crest— a hand holding winged thunderbolt. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, May 27. Stolen from the person of a lady at New Brighton, Cheshire on the 20th instant, a lady's gold lever Watch, No. 1626, gold dial, steel figures, fancy flowered case, maker Carter, Warrington, and a gold ^ uard Chain, snake pattern, attached. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the abrve and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammond, County Police, Abbey Street, Birkenhead, 1, Cheshire.— Bow- st., May 24. Stolen from the person of one John Morgan, while attending Eardisley Fair, on the 15th instant, a double case silver Watch, with a small glass in front, N? a 33533, maker Skarratt, Kington, a small seal and steal chain attached. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Shead, Kington, or to Sergeant Edwards, Eardisley, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 20. Between 1 and 7 p. m. on the 21st instant, the cottage of William Woodhouse, Kentchurch, Hereford, was broken open, and the following articles stolen therein : a black Hat; a black cloth Vest, much worn ; a black Necktie ; 2 men's Shirts, one unbleached, the other dark plaid ; 2 neck Handkerchiefs ; and 2 pairs of worsted Stockings. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superin- tendent Blunsdon, Abbey Dore, Hereford.— Bow- street, May 24. During the night of the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. E. Elton, of Wheatley, was broken and entered and the following articles stolen therefrom : 4 silver Dessert Spoons, bead pattern, crest— hand and dagger ; Tops of Cruet Stands ; Mustard Spoons; a sugar Bottle; a silver Fork, queen's pattern, marked ' A. E. E. ;' a Dessert Spoon, marked ' E. a silver Thimble ; and a Kitchen Cloth, with ' Elton ' on it. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the offender or offenders, to Mr. Frampton, Secretary to the Wheatley Property Protection Society, to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or to Inspector Yates, will receive £ 10 reward, subject to the rules of the association.— Bow- street, May 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The cottage of James Green, of the parish of Tedstone, Delemere, was broken and entered in the day time, during the absence of the inmates, on the 23rd instant, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a double- cased silver Watch, maker J. Cornwall, London, No. supposed to be 1817, ' B. B.' on tbe inside of outer case; 2 Papers of Woodward, watch- maker, Broad- street, Worcester, inside, a piece of red Silk, and steel chain, double links, a Seal with red stone, and man's head engraved thereon, 2 brass Keys, one without swivel, attached ; 1 black cloth Vest, with a hole burned near the left pocket, single- breasted, and buttons up to neck ; 2 calico Shirts ; and 7 or 8 lbs. of Bacon. Also in the above parish, the same day, the cottage of Thos. Handley, was entered, and a white Shirt, a blue ditto, 2 red pocket Handkerchiefs, a small ditto, a Workbox containing a Tea Spoou, several Bills, 2 bunches of Keys, and other articles, stolen therefrom. Also on the same day, the cottage of Thomas Rowbery, of Linton, in tbe parish of Bromyard, was entered, and a dark woollen sack Jacket, dark bone buttons, a small rent on the back, and large sleeves ; a striped Vest, nearly new ; a pair cf woollen cord Trousers, with biass buttons ; a woollen Necktie; a bundle of dirty Linen, belonging to a boy about 14 years of age ; and 2 Vests, one stout and warm material, the other black cloth, open front, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Brom- yard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 27. Early on the morning of the 26th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Tate, of Thornbury, in the township of Calverley, Warehouseman, was forcibly entered through the kitchen window, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. :- A new blue pilot cloth Overcoat double- breasted black aK^ STghTeTthan ibelthZ part of" the bodyTthe • rofT^ — ** oLHenry Benny, Lfor- pair of dirty yellow kid Gloves ; two Sovereigns and two Half HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Washwoodheath, in the county of Warwick, on the night of the 21st instant, the property of Mr George Luckman, a light chesnut Horse, 5 years old, 15 J hands high, white legs, and white face, in good condition. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bloxham, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen on the night of the 22nd instant, from Fordhall, near Market Drayton, four Lambs of the Shropshire Down breed, the property of Mr. Joseph Brayn. £ 5 5s. will be paid by the owner to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Scale, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, May 27. On the night of tho 25th instant, a Lamb, the property of Mr. John Ashlin, Firsby, Lincolnshire, was slaughtered in a field in Firsby Ings, and the carcase taken away, tbe skin, head, and entrails left in the field. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, Police Station, Spiisby, who will pay a good reward to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders.— Bow- street, May 27. Supposed to have been stolen on the 6th instant, from a field in the parish of Bockland, a dark chesnut Mare, 14 hands high, aged, marked with the ietter ' H ' on the off hip, mane Sovereigns, two Half Crowns, one Florin, and six or seven Threepenny Pieces in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, Court House, Bradford, Yorkshire. - Bow- street, May 27. During the night of the 23rd or the morning of the 24th instant, the house of Captain Brookbanks was entered and the following property stolen therefrom : a brown small plaid Inverness Cape, a slate coloured or grey mixture tweed top Coat, a brown silk Umbrella, a lightish coloured soft raddy Hat, with black ribbon round it, and bound round with black. £ 25 reward will be given to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Captain Brookbanks, Middleton- on- the- Wolds, or to Superintendent Young, East Riding Constabulary, Police Station, Great Driffield.— Bow- street, May 27/ Between 10 p. m. on the 23rd and 6 a. m. on the 24th inst., the dwelling- house of Miss Johnson, at Alcester, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : six silver Tea Spoons, 3 silver Dessert ditto, 2 silver Forks, six electro- plated Dessert Spoons, six ditto Forks, six ditto Tea Spoons, twelve German silver Dessert ditto, twelve ditto Forks, twelve ditto Tea Spoons, and four ditto Table ditto ( some marked ' E. R. H, C. C., R. E. S.,' and some ' W. A. G., J. C., J. J., A. D., H. S.' Information to be given to Superintendent Dunbar, Alcester, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 27- Between 11 p. m. on the 24th and 3' 30 a. m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of James Dawson, of Moston, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen there- from : a woman's old white flannel Petticoat; a man's old flannel Shirt, one button at the breast, and patched ; a dark winsey dress Skirt, lined at the bottom with slate- coloured lining, and two pieces of Winsey to make the body. Infor- mation to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Traflord, near Manchester.— Bow- street, May 27. Between 10' 40 p. m. on the 22nd and 5' 50 a. m. on the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Jabez Alderley, Barlow Hall Farm, Chorlton- cum- Hardy, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a dark green morocco Writing Case, small size, containing note paper, ink- stand, penholder, and sealing wax ; a dark wooden Workbox, containing a pair of scissors, thimble, and a small Book, entitled • To make Home Happy,' and ' Jabez Alderley' written inside. By a man, 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build ; dressed in fustian clothes and billycock bat. Further information of the Pony, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, as stolen from the stable of Mr. J. Edwards, of Gyfynes, near Wrexham, on the night of the 24th ultimo : tbe Pony is supposed to have been driven away by a boy of tbe following description, who had been working for Mr. Edwards : about 5 feet 2 inches high, 17 years of age, and brown hair; dressed in a blue jacket and waistcoat, corduroy trousers, dark cap, lace- up boots with brass eyelet holes, and a blue and white muffler. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Boto- street, May 24. Supposed stolen from a field at Garth, in the parish- of Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire, a 2- year old Shropshire down Ram, dark face and legs, was reared by hand, well woolled, and laintly raddle marked on the breast. Information to be given to Sergeant Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a field belonging to Edwin Housden, at Bury, a dark bay nag Mare, 4 years old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, has three white marks round the off ear, and in fair working condition ; also a bright bay cob Horse, aged, in low condition, low in the back, hollow above the eyes, and collar marked on shoulder. Supposed by two gipsies : one about 30 years of age, tall, and thin make ; dressed in dark clothes and low soft dark hat: the other man is about 25 years of age, short, and stout; dressed in dark coat and cord trousers fitting tight to the leg. They travel with a dark gipsy woman, about 40 years of age, and a girl about 14; they have a light- coloured donkey and a tent with them. Information to be given to Acting Superin- tendent Hamilton, Ramsey, Hunts, or at any Police Station in Hunts or Cambs.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed stolen from a field at Roden, near High Ercall, Salop, during the night of the 16th instant, the property of Mr. Smith, gardener, of Roden : a bay Mare Pony, about 13 hands high, burn mark ' W. P.' on the near Bide of the back, a hole punched in the right ear, and is about 4 years old ; and a dark chesnut Mare Pony, about 11 hands high, burn mark ' C.' on near shoulder. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the ponies, or the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall be handsomely rewarded and all reasonable expenses paid. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Market- square, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen on the 6th instant, from Enfield Farm, Lindfield, Sussex, the property of Geo. Found at Tean, near Cheadle, on the 14th instant, and supposed to have been stolen; » dun coloured back Mare, lu low condition, without shoes, about 14 hands high, white star on forehead and white near hind foot. Description of a man ( name unknown) charged with steal- ing from tbe < « b'u ' Elizabeth,' of Beverley, whilst lyin" at Stanly Ferry, about 3 p. m. on the 24th instant, the property of John Toft, the captain, viz, a £ b Beverley Bank Note; '.£ 4 lh Gold, and 7d. in Copper; also a silk Handker- chief, with blue and white spots. A waterman, about 25 years of age; 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light bro. vn hair, round shouldered, no whiskeis, a curl each side of his face : dr. ssed in black cloth coat, two pockets outside in laps, black cloth vest, moleskin trousers, duty in front, and black cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent William Hall, Wakefield.— Bow- street, May 27 Stolen from a dwelling- house in Bolton, on the afternoon of the 23rd instant, a puce u ooll. u plaid Shirt, a puce woollen Neckerchief, and a black cloth VVst. Also stolen from a dwelling- house, on the morning of the 24th Instant, a pair of men's lace up Shoes, frith brass eyelets ; a new peach winsey Dress, white pearl buttons; a blue cloth Spotting Coat, new style ; a black cloth Vest, turn- down collar; and a pair of dark blue mixture cloth Trousers. By a man, about 21 years of age, tall and slender, sharp features, daik brown hair, much sunburnt, burn marks oil both arms, and dressed iu an old cloth coat, moleskin vest, cord trousers, cap, and the stolen shoes. He was in Bury, Lancashire, on the 24th instant, and may go either to. Ruohdale or Manchca'er. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Laucashiie— Bow- it., May 27. Absconded oh the 18th instant, charged with stealing about £ 250 In Bank of England Notes ( of which eight £ 20 notes were numbered 44455- M52 inclusive, one £ 10 note, No. 4724, all flirted 23rd March, 18( 57), HENRY AYRES, clerk, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, com- plexion clear, rather sallow, short dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, except a few hairs, thick Fet, usually carries his hands in his trousers pockets when walking, large feet which turn outwards, hips protrude ; dressed in dark shirt and coat, dark grey striped tweed trousers and vest. He was accom- panied by a young man, 19 years of age. 5 feet 9 inches higb, . dark complexion, no whiskers, hair cut short, peculiar look, high forehead, and dressed in dark coat, pockets on hips, light grey trousers, black and white scarf. Information to be given to Inspector Hamilton, City of London Detective Office, No. 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bovf- street, May 27. • • Absconded on the 4th instant, from his employer, East Moulsey, embezzling 19s. : ALBERT SMITH, a milkman, 21 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and eyes, fresh complexion, scars on left arm and shoulder ; dressed in a shabby black suit, low- crowned bat, lace shoes. Supposed enlisted at Westminster. A warrant is issued.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, May 27. Absconded on the 21st instant, from 28, Qreat Marl- borough- street, St. James's, stealing a dark blue double breasted morning Coat, silk facings, bound with braid, pockets inside; 8 green silk Scarf, yellow spots : a foreigner, speaks English, 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches bigh, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, weak eyes, and wears spectacles ; dressed in black coat, dark mixtuie trousers and vest, and black hat.— Metro- politan Police, C Division, May 27. Absconded on the 20th instant, from 44, New Bond- st., embezzling £ 7 : a man, 20 years of age, 6 feet 6 or C inches high, fair complexion, light browu hair, has lost all his front teeth ( except one) in upper jaw ; dressed in a black melton coat, light veBt, grey trousers, blue cap with leather peak and brass buttons— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 27. Absconded oti the 22nd instant, from 74, New Bond- st., stealing a small wooden Box, containing £ 4 in Gold; a youth, 13 years of age, fair complexion ; dressed in a black velvet jacket, dark trousers and vest, lace- up boots, and black wide- awake hat trimmed with blue ribbon,— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 27. Absconded on the 20th instant, from 28, Anchor- street, Bethnal- green, stealing 1 feather Bolster; 1 flock ditto; 1 pair of Sheets; 1 pair of Blankets; 2 pieces of Carpet; 2 chintz led Curtains; 1 brass Candlestick ; and 1 set of fire Irons : a man and woman, lat, about 66 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, grey hair ; dressed in a dark coat, cord trousers, and black hat; 2nd, about 60 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fur complexion, hair inclined to grey, has an impediment in her speech, and walks lame ; dressed in a dark linsey dress, dark violet shawl, and black Velvet bonnet. — Metropolitan Police, ,11 Division, May 27. Absconded from Barking about the 16th instant, JOHN WILLIAM BAILEY, of Heath- street, Barking, collector of poor rates and assessed taxes, embezzling £ 366 16s. 7d. income tax, and £ 328 16s. 7d. land aud assessed taxes, the monies of the Commissioners of Taxes and the Churchwardens of the parish of Barking, Essex : he is 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark . complexion, whiskers, and hair; dressed in black coat, vest, and trousers, black necktie and bat, and side- spring boots. Absconded on the 12lh instant, from No. 124* Albany- street, Regeut's- park, embezzling £ 3, a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, and dressed in light clothes aud billycock haL— Metropolitan Police, St Division, May 24. Stolen on the 16th instant, from a house at Whetstone : a blue pilot coat, lined with red plaid ; a pair of cord Trousers, a pair of dark mixture ditto, a dark mixture cloth Vest, a plum coloured Scaif, square pattern ; a led Pocket Handker- chief, a pair of Braces, and a black velvet stitched hat. By a man, 24 years of sge, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair ( cut Bhort), and supposed to be dreBsed in the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, May 24. Absconded on the 21st inst. MORRIS PHILLIPSTALL, Charged wi- h stealing £ 40 in Bank of England NoteB, Nos. from 94347 to 94366, the property of his employers-: he is about 24 years « f age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches higb, light sandy hair, and blue eyes; dressed in a suit of dark clothes. Infcrmation to be given to the Chief Constable, Kiagston- upeti- lIuH, who holds a warrant for lus apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, Mm/ M. Description of GEORGE PRATT, who absconded from Deeping St. James, on tbe 21st instant, charged with stealing a Sovereign, the property of Edward Bellamy: lie is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, slender figure, large nose ; dressed in black cloth coat, pockets at sides, black cloth waistcoat, grey mixture trousers with a dark patch on one knee, and black felt billy cock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bowen, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, May 24.
