The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications iu reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, m. iy be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY _ WOUNDING On the 16th instant, the body of a fehial.> Child, newly- born, was found in the River Yore, near Masham, North Riding of Y<>> Ushire. An Inquest has been h> M. and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder ' returned against some person or fer- ons unknown, Inhumation to be given to Inspector Aliierson, Bedale, or to Superintendent Walmsley, Leyburn, North Riding of Yorkshire.— Hom- sireet, April 22. Description of DANIEL TROY, charged with the wilful murder of Timothy Cummings, at St. Helens, in February last: 24 or 26 years ot age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, high cheek bones, dark hair, no whiskers, scrfoula marks right side of bis neck ; dressed when last seen in a blue pilot cloth coat, light cord trousers, black cloth cap, and lace- up boots. He is an Irishman, and has been employed at chemical works, but may he found woikingasa labourer at some public works. Information to he given to the Police Office, St. Helens, Lancashire. - Bow-' treet, April 16. On the 7th instant the body of a female Infant, newly born, was found near Newgate's Wood, in the borough of Hastings, wrapped in two pi. ces of calico, part of the ' Standard' new- paper of 26ih January last, and some brown paper upon which the word ' Hastings' is legible in ink. An inquest has been held, aud a verdict of * Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the Racecourse at Bedford Steeplechases, on the 6th instant, a double bottom engine- turned gold lever Watch, gold balance, name inside ' William Gray, Leicester,' Wo. 89883 ( the number is on several parts of the watch), ' S S ' engraved on outside. Also stolen from the pers in a gold Geneva Watch with white dial. Information to be given at the County Police Office, Bedford. — Bow- street, April 12. FORGERY. Absconded on the 8th instant, charged with forging two Cheques, one for £ 12 and the other for £ 160, upon the National Provincial Bank at Cardiff, S. ARNORSEN, a native of Iceland, 36 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, 1 ght " - own hair and whiskers meeting under chin, bald on crown head, slight made, very straight, speaks good English ; generally d> ess » d in a black suit, fawn coloured overcoat, and high hat His intention is to leave this country for America or Australia. Absconded on the 1st ultimo, from No. 21, Hatton- garden, charged with utteiing forged Cheques, LOUIS LACOUTURE, clerk, a Frenchman, 33 years ot age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, beard, and moustache, slightly bald ; dressed in dn k suit and black hat. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Hoylake Races, on the 12th instant, a gold patent lever Watch, No. 20i> 6, maker ' Thomas Yates, Preston,' engine turned canes, white dial, and steei hands ; ' Yates, patentee,' on dial. £ 2 reward will be paid for the recovery of the watch, and conviction of the offender er offenders. Stolen on the 9 h instant, from a gentleman, while in a crowd at the corner of Albany- street, a gold Geneva Watch, chased back, maker T. Perrv, No. 131. Stolen from the persons of two gentlemen at Lichfield races, on the 8ih and 9tli instant, a gold lev. r Watch, double- cased, richly chased, No. 3623, maker C. Information BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 20th instant, the house of Frederick Brodie, Esq., Uckfield, was burglariously broken into, and a child's silver Mug stolen therefrom. By a man, short and slight, who left a screwdriver and an old pair of elastic side boots in the hou- e. Information to beg ven to Superintendent Bennett, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- slreet, April 22. Stolen from the cottage of William Allcorn, Uckfield, which was bioken and entered, an old pair of elastic side Biots, clumped soles. Between 10 p. m. ou the 16th and 7 a. m. of the 16th inst. » the premises of Mr. William Chapman, of Herstmonceux, draper and grocer, were burglar. oiisly entered, and about £ 3 in money stolen therefrom, which consisted of about 3s. worth of 3d.. 4d., and 6d.- pieces, upwatds of £ i worth of FarthingB, and the remainder in Pence and Halfpence, several of the halfpence being very much bent, and among them are several French Soua. Information to he given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 22. Late on the night of the 16th instant, or early the follow- ing morning, souie person or persons broke and entered the saddle room at Edstone Hall, neir Stratford- on- Avon, and stole therefrom a dark tweed stable Jacket, a plum coloured livery Coat, with white buttons, crest — a Swan, and a shilling in cash. Information fo be given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire.— Bow- xtreet, April 22. Stolen from Barton, in the parish of Temple Guiting, on the night of the 10th instant, the property of Mr. Robert Hanks, of Barton, farmer a black mare Pony, about 12 hands high, 4 years old, sinail white star on the forehead, a little white on the near hind foot, long mane and tail, no shoes, and very wild. Information to be given to Constable Evans, Police Station, Lower Guiting, near Wiuchcomb, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, April 22. Between 12 and 1 a. m. on the IGth instant, a pawnshop window was broken at Bolton, and the following property stolen : 1 Suit of boy's black cloth, three buttons on the cuff. 1 Suit of boy's blue cloth. 1 Suit of noy's grey cloth, striped. 1 light printed Dress Piece. 1 lilac print Dress Piece. 1 lilac print Dress Piece, running pattern. 12 yards of Wincey, dark brown and light brown. 7 yards ot Thibett. puce. The shop of Mr. Brimley, tailor, Exeter, was burglariously entered on the night of the 11th instant, and the following articles stolen: 21 yards of black broad Cloth. 2 do. do. 21 do. of black Doeskin. 2J do. of mauve and white Tweed. 2. J do. black and white striped Tweed. 2J do. drab check Tweed. 4J do. black Doeskin. 2J do. Oxford mixture Doeskin, do. heather mixed Tweed. 3 do. btown and drab striped Tweed, do. blue and white silk mixed CoatiDg. do. mulberry Coating. 2 do. dark and white Silk stripe. 3 pairs of black Trousers. 2 black Vests. 1 pair black tweed Trousers. 2 pairs of grey ditto. 1 black melton Coat. 1 Oxford mixture Coat bound. 1 new Hat, maker ' Thomas, Queen- street.' Information to be given to Superintendent Steel, Guildhall, Exeter.— Bow- streex, April 15. Between 6 a. m. and 6 p m, on the 10th instant, the dwell- ing- hou- e of Thoiuas Prituhard, of Aherwheeler, rear Denbigh, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : a chiefs, marked ' Jno. Jones' with ink. By a tramp, about 25 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, stout build, sandy whiskers, and diessed in an old velvet jacket and cap. An old pair of boots and vest were left in the house. Information to be given to Superintendent Pugh, Denbigh, North Wales.— Bow- street, April 16. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Read, at Defford, Worcestershire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: three pairs of men's white cotton Stockings, a pair of old patched Sheets, a man's calico Shirt, and a mahogany Tea Caddy. Also, on the s< me night, from the house of William Hitchins, of the same place, a double- barrelled Gun, without lock on light barrel, the name ' Williams on lock of left. The gun, tea caddy, and tea kettle has been found pawned at Worcester, by a man. about 35 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches hi^ b, very dark hair, whiskers, and eyes, and small mouBtache, has a pe< uliar expression of countenance ; dressed in a black billycock hat, supposed fustian waistcoat ( witli sleeves) and under do., brown cord trousers, and shoes, with about four lace holes on each side. . Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 12. On the morning of the 9' h instant, the dwelling- house of C. Garnier, Esq., of Mount Tavy, near Tavistock, was bur- glariously broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a large Tray, seven small Waiters, four side Dishes and three Covers, two Teapots and Stands, three butter Boats, four pairs of upright Candlesticks, a hot water Jug and Stand, four egg Cups with Stands and Spoons, four salt Cellars, a pair of sugar Tongs, a mustard Pot and Spoon, a small Teapot, three cream Jugs, two marrow Spoons, four Sauce Ladles, a sugar Ladle, a Fish Slice, four pairs of salt Spoons, forty- five large table Forks, thirty- four small ditto, . four gravy Spoons, two sany Ladles, thirty- five tab'e Spoons, thirty- four dessert Spoons, nineteen tea Spoons, two butter K. nivoc, thr » » Goblets, thiee Cups a pepper Box, and two Skewers; the whole marked wiih the crest— a mailed arm with bolt, lion, lion's claw grasping crossed arrows. A reward of £ 50 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of th.- offender or offenders. At noon on the 9th instant a dwelling- house in Cardiff was broken and entered, and a black silk Dress, the body made to torm a jacket and waistcoat, trimmed with ruches of the same material ; a wiusey Dress, trimmed at the bottom with different widths of velvet; a pair of very large half- Wellington Boots ; a pair of boy's elastic- side Boots ; a pair of black Trousers, much worn, several pieces let in the back to make tbein larger, old- fashioned, small fall; a pair of black Trousers, large fall, small hole burnt in leg; a pilot cloth Overcoat and a drab witney ditto with velvet collar, much worn, two pockets outside and a breast pocket in each ; a large woollen plaid tcirf Shawl, scarlet, brown, and black ; and a red aud black Welsh flmnel Shirt, nearly new, stolen there- from. Information to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, April 12. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field between Castle Donington and Sawley Bridge, on the 16tti or early on the 17th instant, belonging to Mr. Bakewell, an aged grey horse Pony, about 14 hands 2 inches high, has beeu fired on both fore legs round the ceronet. Whoever will give information of the offender or offenders shall, on his or their conviction, receive £ 6 reward from Mr. Elton, Treasurer of Castle Donington Association for the Prosecution of Felons, aud £ 5 from Mr. Bakewell, Information to be given to Superintendent Hague, Police Station, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 22. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Hopstone, Claveiley, during the night of the 9th instant, the property of Mr. R. Ireland, farmer, a brown cart Mare, 3 years old, 15 hands high, long mane and tail, has been shod, shoes supposed off, and in low condition. A bay nag Mare, 3 years old, 16 hands high, bang tail, has been shod, but supposed without sh ies, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent McWilliam, County Constabulary, Bridgnorth, Salop, or to Police Constable Bromwell, Claverley, Salop.— Bow street, April 22. Description of CHARLES BERTON, who is charged with stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, the property of Matthew Harris, at Burgess- street, South Stoneham, on the 17th instant, and wliich has beeu found sold at Romsey : 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 iuches high, dark hair and whiskers, " tooth out of upper jaw in front, projecting tooth in upper jaw, skin off first joint of left thumb, very much inflamed ; dressed in very dark clothes, black low- crowned hat, red scarf, and red Garibaldi shirt, and has the appearance of a stoker or engine' driver: he left Salisbury Mt 10 30 p. m. en the 18th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne, or at any of the Hants Constabulary Stations.— Boto- strcc- t, April 22. Absconded from Newport Pagnell, Bucks, on the morning of the 18th instant, charged with felony, JOHN PAYNE the younger native of Woburn Sands, labourer, about 36 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, large swelling under one ear, scar under his jaw, dark hair and whiskers, dark complexion, and dressed in a dark monkey j < cket, slop under it, moleskin trousers, dark cloth cap with p< ak, and lace- up boots. He is well known in Bucks, Beds, aud Herts, and is supposed to be in one of those counties. Description of EDGAR WALDGRAVE, alias WEST, a gardener, who absconded from a gentleman's house in Pendle- ton, in the borough of Salford, on the 11th instant, stealing and taking with him upwards of £ 40, and a silver lever Watch, maker Hall, King- street, Manchester : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, very small dark hazel eyes, slender make, and rather round- ahouldered ; usually dressed in a dark rou* h coat, dark tweed trousers, and brown billycock hat ; when last teen he had on a suit of black cloth.
