APRIL 8, 1867. ft'otfffce.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- Between 10 and 11 on the night of the 4th instaut, a straw Rick belonging to Mary Golby, of Coton, Oxford, was set on fire, also a cart Hovel, at Coton, the property of Thomas Campion both of wnich were destroyed. By a man of the follow- ing descripiion, who has absconded : 22 years of age. 6 feet high, Very thin made, sallow complexion, very small whiskers, and the end of forefinger off the right hand ; dressed in an old flannel jicket, with large white buttons, and short slop underneath, old dark trousers, with patch oil one knee, old corded billycock hat, and old shoes, he is a native of Chacombe, Northamptonshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Whadcoat, County Police Station, Banbury, Oxfordshire. — Borostreet, April 8. FORGERY. Description of a man who gave the name of JOHN PALMER, charged with obtaining a qmntity of new Clothing by means of a forged order, on the 30th ultimo, from Fred. Tuck, clothier an 1 tailor, Chatteris : from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light brown hair, small whiskers, fresh complexion, and quiet appearance ; dressed in a light drab slop, buttoned in front with band, an elastic band round his waist, cord knee breeches, old shabby- locking brown leather leggings, lace- up boots, and black cloth cap with peak. Stt4en on the 30th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman, while passing through the Strand, an old fashioned gold lever Watch, maker Bar wise, and a small cable Chain attached.— Metropolitan Police, F Dision, April 5. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a gentlemsD, while standing at his door, No. 357, Strand, during the time the volunteers were passing, a gold lever hunting Watch, compen- sation curb in the watch, and part of an Albert chain attached. By a man, 24 years of age, short, slight ; dressed in brown loose coat with pockets at sides and old cap .— Metropolitan Police, F Division, April 5. Stolen on the night of the 3rd instant, from the person of Mr. Alfred Martin, a gold English lever Watch, double back, f- plate compensation balance, jewelled in 4 holes, maker Alfred Martin, Brighton, No. 7090 Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, about 5" 30 ,). m. on the 30th ultimo ( supposed at the Melton Mowbray Railway Station), a> ingle- case gold repeater Watch, makeis Arnold and Dent, London. £ 10 will be paid on the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, from the person of Samuel Jones, of Rotherham, forgeman, while at the Rother- ham Steeple Chases, a gold Geneva Watch, No. 14665, the figure ' I' is rubbed off the dial. By a man about 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, mueh worn, a flat cap with peak, Und a red muffler. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a gentleman, at the corner of Cranbourne- street and St. Martin'e- lane, a gold Swiss Watch, crest on back— two lions, paws crossed, No. 9483.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, April 1. Stolen from the person, between 12 p. m. 29th, and 10 a. m. 30th ultimo, a patent lever chronometer silver Watch, No. 14080, maker Alexander Leadiham, Aberdeen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hewett, Tynemonth.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from a gentleman, in High- street, Whitechapel, a gold lever Watch, white dial, brass pin in swivel, a gold Albert Chain, oval links, gold bar with knob at each end, and small gold Ring, with spring for trinkets, attached. By a man, 25 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in dark clotheE.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 1. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Kidderminster Steeple Chases, on the 29th ultimo, an old fashioned gold Watch, and a silver black lever Watch, No. 4802. Information to be given to Superintendent Stanton, Stourport, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, April 1. Stolen from the person at Bangor Steeplechases, on the 28th ultimo : a gold skeleton lever Watch, winds up on face, much scratched at keyhole ; a lady's gold Geneva ditto ; an old fashioned gold Geneva ditto, broke off at swivel; and a silver lever ditto, enamel face, ' Humphrey Roberts' engraved inside case. Information to be given to Superiutendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Boio- sreet, April 1. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between the nights of the 30th ultimo and the lst instant, the offices of W. D. Trotter, Esq , solicitor, Bishop Auckland, were broken into and about £ 240 iu Notes, Gold, Silver, and Copper stolen, including three £ 5 Notes. Two of the notes were on the Bank of Messrs. Backhouse and Co., one a new one, and the first three figures of its number 790—. The other note is supposed to have been on the Bank of England. There was also stolen ut the same time a yellow leather Money Bag, on which was impressed the official seal of the County Court for Bishop Auckland. A portion of the money bad tor some time been kept wrapped in paper and was discolored. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person giving ouch infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland.— Bow- street, April 8. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Read, at Defford, Worcestershire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: three pairs of men's white cotton Stockings, a pair of old patched Sheets, a man's calico Shirt, and a mahogany Tea Caddy. Also, on the same night, from the house of William Hitchins, of the same place, a double- barrelled Gun, without lock jon right barrel, the name ' Williams' on lock of left. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 8. Between 1 and 8 a. m. on the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Ackroyd, pattern maker, Sowerby Bridge, was entered through the cellar grating, and the following property stolen : a gilt Time- piece surmounted by the figure of a man ; a grey cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside and one in left breast, brown and grey lining ; a black Coburg Dress- piece, 10 yards long ; a clothes' Basket con- taining the following articles of washed Linen but not smoothed or ironed— two white cotton Shirts with Jinen fronts and wristbands, a blue and white striped cotton Shirt with metal buttons, a cotton Chemise marked « E. Ellis' in ink, a pair of women's Drawers, two harden Towels, a white linen Towel with blue edge, three white holland Aprons, three bleached calico Pillowcases, two men's Collars ( one white and the other brown and white), and a blue and white check bundle Handkerchief; a black stuff Apron ; and some Butter. Eggs, and Bread. Intorniation to be given to Superintendent Copeland, Court House, Halifax, Yorkshire. — Boa- street, April 8. Between 12 p. m. on the 4th and G' 30 a. m. of the 5th inst, the sleeping apartments of the servants in an out- building at Lluest Garsheli were entered, and the following property stolen, the property of David Price : a locked cloth Box, con- taining 2 Sovereigns, 2 Half- Cro » ns, and a few Pence ; also a pair of watertight Boots, 7 size, with eyelets, five rows of nails, heels and toes tipped. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hall, Llandyssul, or Sergeant Roberts, Lampeter, Cardi- ganshire.— Bo no- street, April 8. On the night of the 3rd instant, Welland Court, the resi- dence of Mrs. Swinberron, Welland, was burglariously broken and entered and 13 bottles of Port and one of Sherry Wine, 3s. in money, and a Loaf of Bread stolen therefrom. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn Police Office, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 8. On the 6th instant, between 7' 15 and 8 30 p. m., the cottage of James Pope, of Cowfold, West Sussex, was broken and entered, aud the following property stolen therefrom : 1 small silver Box, about the size of an halt- crown, chased on the lid, and a small space left plain in the centre, in the box was a plain gold Ring, much woin ; 1 small leather Purse, with steel fastening, containing half a Crown ; 1 bottle home- made Wine, and a small quantity of Bread, Cheese, Butter, and Bacon, Information to be given to Super- intendent Blake, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— — Bow- street April 8. The dwelling- house of Anthoney Milner, of Blackrod, was broken and entered between 1 and 5 a. m. of the 4th instant, and the following property stolen therefrom : a man's pair of black cloth Trousers, a red flowered Muffler, three silk lavender coloured Neckties: three cotton Pocket Handkerchiefs, with white borders and flowered middle ; 2 lbs. of Currants, 2 ozs. of Tobacco, 3 lbs. of Cheese, and 2 lbs. of Butter. Suspicion is attached to a man, who had lodged in the bouse about a month : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers round chiD, and dressed in a square- lapped plaid cloth jacket, mixed cloth vest, dark ribbed cloth trousers, black cloth cap, with broad top and brass button at each side, and clogs. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street. April 6. Between 11- 30 p. m. of the 25th and 6 a. m. of the 26th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Lloyd, of Wrenbury, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom: a new calico Shirt, with linen front; three new ditto, ditto, partly made ; two diaper Table Cloths ; two white Poeket Handkerchiefs, one marked ' M. W.;' three coloured ditto ditto, a chemise, and a pair of lady's Drawers, marked * H. G. S.' Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 3. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the National Schools at Oakham were broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : about 2s. in Coppers; two Draft Boards, one black and brown squares, the other black and white, on the white are figures in pencil; two sets of Chessmen, one black and the other brown ; two white Fox and Geese Boards and Pegs ; two brown Solitaires, with marbles and green bags, one bag darker than the other. Supposed by tramps. A reward of £ 1 will be given on conviction of the offenders by the Rev. J. Mould, the vicar. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable of the County, Oakham, Rutland.— Bow- street, Apt 111. On th night of the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of John Humphrey, of Leigh, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : six silver Table Spoons, 2 marked ' R. M H.,' 2 • F.,' and 2 ' W. L. F.'; fourteen Tea ditto, 9 marked ' R. M. H.,' 4 ' M. C.,' and 1 supposed with a cross ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' R. M. H.' ; two pairs ditto, plated ; an old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, marked • T. S. F.'; a pair of silver Spectacles, a Razor in red case, au old brown Jacket, and a Box containing about £ 5 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, April 1. A shop en the Chain Pier, Brighton, was broken open, during the night of the 20th ultimo, and the following articles stolen, the property of Mr. John Pointing: 60 pebble Brooches, set in silver, different shapes. A quantity of smaller Brooches and Lockets, set in silver. 12 Penholders, mounted in silver. 16 pebble Bracelets cased in silver. 2 carbuncle Bracelets. 20 pebble Bracelets. 1 onyx Casket, not lined, with four naked figures, one at each corner. And a quantity of other Jewellery. 1 long Nightgown, cut out, but not made up. 4 pairs of women's Dra wers, quite new, not been washed. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton. — Bow- street, April 1. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the night of the 2nd instant, a dark chesnut Mare, about 13 hands high, 7 years old, white face, little white on the hind legs, lately blistered on the fore feet, and in good condition. £ 5 reward, and all expenses will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery ot the mare. Information to be given to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 8. Stolen from a field at Acton, Middlesex, on the night of the lst ultimo, a bay Gelding, 14f hands high, rising 4 years, black mane, tail, and legs, the mane would not lie readily on the right side, a white star on the forehead, which is peculiarly sunk, being quite indented. When stolen it was only partially broken in, and had not been trimmed. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the said Gelding, shall receive £ 10 reward, on application to William Wood, Esq., Friars- place, East Acton. Information to begiren to the Inspector of Police at Acton.— Bow- street, April 8. Supposed to have been stolen on or about the 13th ultimo, from a field in Bollington, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, 7 Sheep, marked with a red dot on the left hip, and a hole through one ear. If strayed all reasonable expenses will be paid, by the owner, Mr. Mark Pierson, Bollington. Stolen from a straw yard at Oasley Farm, Wye, near Ashford, Kent, on the 27th ultimo a small black rough coated forest mare Pony, about. 11$ hands high, long mane and tail, in good condition, aged, large splash ot white near end ot nose, was gored by a bullock on one one side some years ago, the wounds are still visible, is fork marked in off ear, and had no shoes on. Stolen from a house in Newcastle, Staffordshire, on the 26th ultimo, two pairs of women's kid top elastic spring- side Boots : bv WILLIAM EVERETT, a shoemaker, a native of Stone, about 26 y.- ars of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pock- marked, liuht hair, small moustache and beard ; dressed in old blsck cloth coat, shepherd plaid trousers, glazed cap ( all much worn), and a pair of elastic spring- Bide boots, which are also stolen. He is supposed to have gone to Birmingham, where he has worked, and lodged in a yard near the ' Black Lion,' Hurst- street. A warrant is isued for his apprehension. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from Rouel House, Rouel- road, Bermoudsey : a black silk Skirt, a light plaid woollen Shawl, a Scotch plaid Shawl, a Tablecloth, and a white Petticoat. By a female, 60 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow com- plexion ; dressed in black linsey dress, plaid shawl, straw bonnet with ereen ribbon, and lace boots.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, April 3. Stolen on the 23rd ultimo, from the Bricklayers' Arms Railway Station, a quantity of Materials for making baskets. By a Frenchman, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, square build, flat face, no whiskers, smal' moustacne, hair turning Metropolitan Police, LAEGENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Description of JOHN WILLIAMS, late Surveyor to the Local Board of Health at Roath, charged with convening a valuable security to hi* own use, and for whose apprehension ^ the iront withblack bead buttons, trimmed with black glass a warrant has been issued: about 40 years of * ge, 6 feet bead trimming; a dark tweed Jacket, nearly new, with black Stolen from a beer- house in Stockport, about 9 a. m. on the 1st instant, a blue merino stuff Skirt, has no lining and fastens up the front with hooks and eyes; a drab and black woollen plaid single Shawl ; two calico Chemises nearly new ; a white flannel Petticoat with narrow white calico binding which ties with tape ; a pucecoid stuff Dress which buttons up 8 or 9 iuches high, fair complexion, whiskers inclined to be sandy, rather round shouldered, delicate appearance, stoops when walking ; dresses respectably, and generally wears a high- crowned hat. The woman is ubout 28 years of age, 5 feet high ; dressed in a GEORGE GILLETT and WILLIAM black and blue silk dress, green and black velvet bonnet, black scarf shawl, and elastic booK Information to be given to Description of GILLETT, charged with stealing on the 12th ultimo, a Gun, Tared • ttaman < sllk Vestment, ^ embroidered with gold, coloured silk, green wel vet, and gold thread; a Stole made of thetsamt- material. l red flowered satin Vestment; Stole and Maniple same material. 1 white satin embossed Vestment, embroidered cross, gold- coloured silk, and gold thread. 1 white satin Vestment, and Maniple of the same material, 1 white silk Banner embroidered with spangles and gold- coloured silk. 1 black funeral Pall, cotton velvet, white silk fringe. 1 sn all silver gilt Chalice. 1 silver salt Spoon. 1 bottle of Wine, and a quantity of gold and silver Lace. 1 linen Alb embroidered with reu chain stitch on the sleeves and lottom. 1 linen Alb trimmed with pointed lace. A newly- made, highly- finished steel jemmy, lamp slide, and a box of lucifer matches were left behind t> y the thieves. There were traces of blood as if they had cut their hands. A reward of £ 20 will be given by the Rev. Thomas Williams, President of St. Mary's College, Spinkhill, lor such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviition of the offender or offenders. Also, on the sime night, from the honse of William Hitchins, of the same place, a double- b irrelled Gun, without lock on right barrel, the Dame 1 Williams' oa lock of left. The gun, tea caddy, and tea kettle has been found pawned at Worcester, by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, very dark hair, whiskers, and eyes, and small moustache, has a peculiar expression of countenance ; dressed in a black billycock hat, supposed fustian waistcoat ( with sleeves) and under do,, brown cord trousers, and shoes, with about four lace holes on each side. Trotter, Esq., solicitor, Bishop Auckland, were broken into and about £ 240 in Notes, Gold, Silver, and Copper stolen, including three £ 5 Notes. Two of the notes were on the Bank of Messrs. Backhouse and Co., one a new one, and the first three figures of its number 790—. The other note is supposed to have been on the Bank of England. There was also stclen at the same time a yellow leather Money Bag, on which was impressed the official seal of the County Court for Bishop Auckland. A portion of the money had for some time been kept wrapped in paper and was discolored. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person giving suoh infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders.
