Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tile !& iguature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published withaut bis authority. INFORMATIONS. cut very short behind, and brushed back on the top of his head in front, little or no whiskers, florid complexion, with rather prominent nose ; had the appearance of a farmet ; dressed in dark clothes Information to he given to Superintendent Leaper, Spalding, or to Superintendent Wright, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Dow- street, February 15. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 18th | instant, the dead body of a male Child apparently about three weeks old, was found in a wood at Hambleden, Bucks, with a piece of a white | ocket- handker- chief tied tighily round its neck. A coroners inquest was held on the 22nd instant, and a verdict returned of ' wilful murder ' against Bome persi n or persons unknown. Infotmation to be given to Superintendent Shepherd, High Wycombe, or to Inspector Clear, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bow- street, Feb. 25. I About noon on the fith instant, tbe body of Hugh McKeon was found brutally murdered on the Quay of the Great Float, Poulton, Cheshire, aud it is supposed a considerable sum of money was stolen from his person, and at an adjourned inquest, on the Ilth instant, a verdict of ' wnful murder ' was returned. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Government to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or mur- derers ; and the Right Hunourahle the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice ( not being the actual niuiderer), who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the same result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smith, Cheshire ; to Superinten- dent Hammond, Birkenhead ; or at any Polite Station in Cheshire.— Bow street, February 22. On the morning of the 18th instant, the body of a male Child, apparently about 10 days old, was found in an ash pit at the back of Saville- Btreet, in the borough of South Shields, and is supposed to have been murdered ; it was dressed in white cotton nightgown, chemise, and nightcap, and white flannel barrow coat, and was wrapped in a piece of sacking about a yard square. The coroner's inquest is adjourned for a week. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, Soirh Shields.— Bow- sired., February 22. A coroner's inquest was held, on the 16th instant, on the body of Thomas Duce. and a verdict of ' Man- slaughter' returned against JAMES DUCE, who has absconded : he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dimple on chin, dark hair, large dark whiskers ( probably shaved off), chin rather prominent, stout made, thick red neck, and good lookiug ; dressed in a brown aud black plaid coat, straight back, full of small holes, cord breeches, leather leggings, and round stiff hat with narrow btim and very greasy ; by trade a butcher, but se'dom follows that occupation, and a native of Wheathill, Salop. He will most likely he found in some low public or beer house, and in company with poachers ; he is well known in Ludlow, Ten- bury, Wolverhampton, and Pontrilas, near Penybont; he was two years in service at Pontrilas. Information to be given to Superintendent McWilliain, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Police Station, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- strett, February 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a lady at Stanningley, in the township of Pudsey, about 11 p. m. on tbe 20th instant, a silver lever Geneva Watch, nearly new, had one rivet on each side of dial which are lost, engine turned cases, with smooth place in ceDtre of back for initials. Also a gold Guard, secret link pattern, with patent swivel, the spring of which is rather bent, the guard has been broken but was tied together with black thread. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford. « -- Bow- street, February 25. Stolen from the person of George Dean, on the 17th inst., between the hours of 7 aud 8 p. m., whilst in the Greyhound Public- house, in the parish of Market, a pair cased silver verge Watch, ' George Dean' engraved on back of inner case; a german silver watch- guard Chain, and three Seals, one gold with plain blue stone in centre, two common ditto, one with two small hearts, the other ditto and a common key attached. Information to he given to Superintendent Bar- by, Police Station, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bou>- street, February 20. Stolen from the person of a seamin on the highway, leading fiom Queenhoro to West Minster, Sheppy, Kent, on the night of the 13th instant, a silver verge Watch, No. 848, capped nnd jewelled, ' John Longfoot' engiaved' on the cap and inside the case ; a silver Albert with brass Key attached ; a plum- coloured Overcoat, velvet collar, two side pocktts, one outside breast pocket, lined with black alpaca, quite new ; and a Portemonnaie with brass clasp, ' J. L.' on the fastening, contain- ing £ 5 10s. in Gold. By two men, one about 33 years of age, 6 feet 10 or II inches high, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a monkey jacket, and cap with peak. The other about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in an overcoat and large billy- cock or fenian hat. The tallest one produced a bottle from his pocket, which he said contained rum, from which the seaman drank, and shortly afterwards became insensible. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, Kent Constabulary, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Noakes, County Police Station, Sheerness, Kent,— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen on the 8th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman at Manchester, a gold f plate centre seconds Watch, engraved dome, flat glass, gold dial, expansion balance, jewelled in 10 holes and sliding stop work, No. 19909. £ 10 leward will be given for BUCII information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender and recovery of the property on application to Chief Constable Palin, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 18. About 9 o'clock on the night of the 10th instant, William Ward, ot Midway, near Swadlincote, was waylaid near Repton, and robbed of 7s. 4d. in Silver. By three men, one ot whom struck him on the head with a stick, and afterwards plunged a spike ( fixed on the end of the stick,) into his side : one of the men was rather tall and stout, with dark whiskers, dressed in velveteen coat aud a cap without peak, with earlaps, and tied under the chin ; the others were not so tall, and were dressed in similar coats. They were accompanied by a lar_ e black dog with long hair, and ran off in tbe direction of Ticknall. Description of THOMAS MOSS, charged at Birmingham, with forgery, he is about 36 years of age, 6 feet 0 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, iather pale face, wears a tuft of hair on chin, also wears spectacles; dressed in a light brown Overcoat, dark trouseis, and black silk hat, and may be found in company of betting men, supposed at present in London. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 20. Description of a person who passed a forged Cheque at Mr. Garfits Bank, at Spalding, on the 29th ultimo, for £ 86 10s., purporting to be drawn by John Rinder, of Skendleby, near Spilsby, and made payable to Thomas Robinson, of Anderhy, near Alford, Lincolnshire. The man who presented the forged cheque signed his name THOMAS ROBINSON, 28 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair which is BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between the hours of 12 p. m. of the 21st and 6 a. m. of the 22ud instant, the dwelling house of W. Kaye, Esq, of Coryton- park, Kilmington, was broken and entered, and a pair of silver Su^ ar Tongs ( marked ' E. C.') sttolen. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Dore, Devon County Constabulary, Police Station, Honiton.— Bow- street, Feb. 2o. On the evening of the 21st instant, a dwelling- house in Sandrock- road, Tunbiidge- Wells, was entered and the following articles of jewellery stolen : 2 Rings, large diamonds set in gold, one has the gold cut through. 1 embossed sold Ring, very handsome, with antique female head. 1 ruby Ring, set in diamonds, half hoop, Indian gold. 1 coral half hoop Ring, Indian gold. 1 tuiquoise Ring with hair at back. 1 pearl Ring, set in Gold. 1 gold Ring, with the following stones to form the word * Regard,' a ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, rnhy, and diamond, and an amethyst in centre with a flaw in it. 2 bracelet Clasps, one has a picture of ' Runjeet Sing ' on it, and the other th* ' Court of Delhi.' 1 pair of gold Bracelets formed by fine chains and clasps. On the night of the 16th instant, the house of Thomas Morris, beerhouse keeper, Wentnor, in the county of Salop, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a brown and black mixture cloth sack Overcoat, pockets at the sides, in one of them was a pair of light blue home knitted woollen Gloves, cuffs on the sleeves, black covered buttons, the lining of the back and front of different coloured plaid ; 1 pair of strong nailed lace- up Boots, men's size, have been soled, and lately repaired with large nails on the outside each heel; 1 pair of men's woollen Stockings, red and blue mixture; 1 dark green cotton Umbrella, whalebone frame, the handle rather short ; the whole of which can be identified, if found. Information to be given to Sergeant Lear, Police Station, Bishops Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, February 25. * On the night of the 19th instant, a cottage at Tregan was broken into, and the following property Btolen : two check Shirts, one old, and broken at the elbows, the other fastens at tbe back, and one of the buttons w fastened with a ring. A tramp of the following description is suspected : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 incites high, stout make, fair complexion, light hair, small whiskers, and walks lame with right leg, which is supposed to have wounds on it ; dressed in dirty light coat and trousers, and hard bowler hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk, or to Superintendent Free- man, Couuty Constabulary, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.— Bow street, February 22. Between the hours of 6 and 10 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelliDg- house of Mr. Isaac Steel, in Green- street, Macclesfield, was entered by means of false keys, during the absence of the inmates, and the following property stolen there- in : 3 gold wedding Rings; 1 gold keeper Ring, figured pattern ; 8 silver Tea Spoons, figured handles, and marked ' H.'; 6 plain ditto, marked ' C.'; 2 plain silver Table Spoons ; 2 silver Salt Spoons : 1 Egg Spoon, fluted pattern ; 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, figured bows ; and 2 black lace Falls. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the property, or in propnition thereof, on application to Mr. Isaac Steel, the owner. Absconded on the 13th instant, from Rickinghall, charged with housebreaking: HENRY FORDHAM, alias BOTES- DALE JOE. 43 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark h » ir and complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and black billy- cock hat; he frequents fairs and low public houses with a nut basket. During the night of tbe 15th or morning of the 16th instant, the Training College, Bishop Stortford, was entered by the laundry window and the following property stolen : a walnut wood Desk lined with blue silk velvet, lock with three catches, inlaid with pearl in the centre, with initials ' E. C.,' 16J inches by 11 j in size, secret drawer with card inside, ' Mr. G. Gurton, Clarendon Hotel ;' an Envelope Box, brown wood, or. anient, d wn h brass, lined inside with magenta watered silk, 9 inches by 4£ in size ; a pair of lady's kid Boots, spring sides, 4J size ; a hlark silk Dress, body separated from skirt, fuU body, top of sleeves trimmed with black bead trimming, skirt and body lined wiih slate colour lining ; two night Dresses, one marked » A. A.,' the other * M. A.'; a flannel Chemise marked ' A.' ; H Chemise marked * A.' ; a Bodice marked ' A.'; a n. w flannel Petticoat; and about Ten Shillings in money, chi. fly coppeis. Information to be given to Inspec'or Ryder, Herts Constabulary, Bishop Stortford.— Bow- street, Feb. 18. During the night of the 8th instant, the Station Office of the Great Western Railway, at Albrighton, was feloniously entered and £ 5 8s. 6^ d. in Money and 3s. 3d. in Stamps, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Bullock, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street. February 15. Ou the night of the 8th instant, a tailor's shop at Marple, Cheshire, was bruken aud entered through the back window, and the following property stolen therefrom : three pairs of new Tiousel's, one pair black cloth, another black, with brown stiipe, the other black aud red plaid ; three Waistcoats, one black cloth, another black and red plaid, the other of a light colour; a black cloth Jacket, with two pockets outside ; a plated Hold Guard ; and about 30s. in Silver. Also stolen, from " nuttier shop in the same place, on the same night, about 130s. in Surer and Copper, and about £ 1 of Tea, made up in 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. About a fortnight before this burglarv, this man was lodging in New Mills, Derbyshire, and had with him a woman dressed in black, and he there pledged a quantity of property ; he also pledKed property in Hyde, Cheshire, the tickets of which he left behind at the place he had be^ n lodging at for three nights at Marple, and the property named in the pawn tickets is sus ected to have been stolen from Hyde aud other places. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen. County Police, Stockport, Cheshire.— — Bow- street, February 16. Berwwn midnight and 7 a. m. on the 13th instant, Oaklc Farm iu ihe parish of Churcham, the residence of Mr. Wm. Barnes, was broken into, and two large loaves of Bread, 3 lbs. of Pot k. and ahoot Albs, ot Cheese, stolen therefrom. Supposed by a tramping labourer ; there were footmarks near tile wiudow of a midoie- sized man's boots, which bad a double row of nails round the sides, and thiee rows up the centre. Informition to be given to Superintendent Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, February 16. The dwelling- house of the Rev. W. H. Ibotson, at Edwin- stone, Notts, was burglariuusly entered during the night of the 8th instant, and the following property stolen therefrom : a mustard Pot, two salt Spoons, nnd a te » Spoon, all stiver- plated ; a pair of men's lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets ; two Half- crowns ; 6s. iu silver and copper Moneys ; and a pork Pie. Suppos- d by a tramp. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, February 13. Between 9 p. m. on the Oth, and ( J a. m. on the 10th inst, the stable of Mr John Wilkinson, of Plealey, farmer, was broken intn, and the following articles stolen : 1 brown Overcoat, burtons up the right side, and 1 dark drab smock Frock, neaily new. Supposed by a tratnp, about 45 years of age, 5 feei 1) inches high, sandy hair and w hiskers ; when last seen be was wearing the overcoat, clog Roots with tips on heels. He gave his name JOHN THOMAS, at Bishop's Castle Union, on the lOih insrant, and he is supposed to be tramping in Woles. Suspicion is attached to a man who resided next door to where tbe robbery was committed, and absconded immediately after : he is 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, thin face pale complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, is a weaver or an ei gineman, and a native of Black hum ; dTessed in black shooting coat, black vest, cotton cord trousers biack felt bittycock hat, half Wellington boots and whi e muffler ; is at. present in a state of ill health. Pieces seven Id. Pi. ces of tbe reign of George III, a pint bottle of Port Wine, several small Cakes, a small Pocket- bouk, containing u Sovereign, two Shillings, a gold keeper Ring, and two Letters. Stolen from a flock of stock Ewes, of the Oxfordshire Downs and the Southdown breeds, between the 27th of Decem- ber lasr, and the I4' h instant, from a sheep fold in the parish of Newiogton. Oxford, 20 ewe Sheep, heavy in lamb, ' D' in a cncle branded ou near side on top of ribs. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 10 reward. De- cription of JAMES McINNES, who has absconded from Ediuburgh, chargefl with embezzlement: he is about 26 years of age, 6 feet inches high, sallow complexion, long tbiu face, long nose, rather thick and red at point, dark hair, little or no whiskers, slight moust. che, walks erectly, smart appearance, aud speaks with a Scotch accent ; dresses generally in dark cloth walking coat, tweed vest, brown trousers, and felt hat with blue and white band ; he may dress in a blue pilot il. th monkey jscket, windaor oord trousers, and Scotch cap with crest in front; be also occasionally dresses in High- land costume. He is supposed to be accompanied by a Scotch woman named ANNE CAMPBELL, of loose character, very good looking. States he served in the 48th regiment, from which he was discharged through being iuptured, and is obliged to use a tiuss ; also that he is a native of Ashborne, Derbyshire, and is a gardener. THOMAS SMITH, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, good looking, light hair aud whiskers ; dressed in an old browu velveteen jacket with large white buttons, cord trousers, and low black bat. On the 1st instant, a man named THOMAS CHANDLER, alias JACKSON, was apprehend* d in Wolverhampton on suspicion of stealing a quantity of Boots, and in his possession was found an invoice from the firm of Messrs. J. snd 11. Holme, of Deansgate, Manchester, for a large quar. tity of boots. A telegram was sent to that firm, aod they sent their traveller. Mr. Septimus Jackson, to inquire into the matter, aod he represented himself before the magistrates to be Mr. H. Holme, one of the partners, and from his evidence procured the release of Thomas Chandler ; it was subsequently ascertained that SEPTIMUS JACKSON ( who is now in custody on a charge of pel jury), is a brother of Thomas Chandler, alias Jackson, ann that he had no authority to use his mastei's name. A warrant has b en granted by the magistrates for their appre- hension for conspiring together 10 obtain the release of Thomas Chandler from the custody of tile Chief of Police of Wolver- hampton, he, the said Thomas Chandler, being then in custody on a charge of felony.
