Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. 1 N F O R M A T IO N S MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Bishopswood, in the parish of Otterford, in the county of Somerset, four men, charged with night poaching, on the grounds of the Right Honourable Viscount Sidmouth, in the parish of Up Ottery, on the 28th ultimo, and wounding John Halford and John Hoskens, gamekeepers, with intent tg> do grievous bodily harm, and for whose appre- hension warrants have been granted : WILLIAM WILLIE, about 30 years of age, about 6 feet 9 inches high, well made, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers under the chin ; dressed in an old speckled coat fustian troupers, and lace- up boots ; is a quarryman. He has been previously convicted, and is a returned convict. WILLIAM WELSH, about 26 years of age. 5 feet 8 inches high, red chubby face, stout built, dark hair, and little whiskers ; diessed in an old velveteen jacket, corduroy trousers, and lace- up boots ; is also a quarryman. JOHN EVERY, about 26 years ot age, 5 feet 9 inches high, very dark hair and whiskers, fresh complexion ; dressed in fustian jacket and trousers, and lace- up boots ; is also a quarry- man. These three men generally work at Lime Quarries. HENRY DOBLE, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, and dirty appearance ; dressed in old fustian jacket and trousers, or he may be wearing a white slop ; is a native of Up Ottery, Devon. Three of the men were seen going towards Taunton, on the 28th ultimo. - A. reward of i' 50 is offered to be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of Such of the offenders as are not. yet in custody, on appli- cation to Mr. William Kitch, Bailiff, Up Ottery. Information to be given to Superintendent Dore, Devon County Constabulary, Police Station, Honiton, or to Sergeant Eckford " Who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, Dt conber 7. Further information of JOSEPH EVANS, a native of Llanonno, Radnorshire, advertised in » he Police Gazette of the 26th. ultimo, charged with shooting Thomas George, on the 23rd ultimo, with intent to kill and murder him, in the parish of Abbtjycwinhir, in the county of Radnor : it is supposed that h^ Jtias cut off his whiskers and changed his dress, and that he will endeavour to get to America, where he has a half brother living. Evaus is a small farmer and baptist preacher. 4J60 reward will be pain by George H. Phillips, Esq., of Abbey- cwmhir, for his apprehension and conviction. Information to he given to Superintendent Constance, Penybont, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 6. A warrant has been issued against GEORGE WOOD, charged with forgery, and obtaining upwards of £ 4000. He is about 38 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, grey eyeB, light reddish- brown whiskers, pockmarked face, one side Slightly more than the other, thin features, slender make, looks' wiry and active, fresh complexion, speaks with a quick sharp tone, and usually dresses in hat or brown wideawake, blue pea jacket, dark vest and trousers, and sometimes a brown cloak; has been in business at Sunderland, Durham, as a wood buyer and merchant for some years. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the said George Wood will be handsomely rewarded, or 6 per cent., will be paid upon the amount found upon him. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunder- land, Durham.— Bow- street, December 3. FORGERY. GEORGE WOOD, charged with forgery at Sunderland, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, has been apprehended in Westmorland.— Bow- street, December 10. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Licence holder, No. 96{ 3, GEORGE COLLINS, alias JOHN HEATH, who was advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th ultimo, has been apprehended at Abingdon, Berk- shire, and committed for trial at the next assizes for arson. Information to he given to Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, December 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the fith instant, the shoemaker's shop of Mr. James Parkyn, Denby, was broken into, and a but of English soleing Leather : two sides of cow Leather ; a pair of new half Wellington Boots, 9 size, a pair of unfinished blucher Boots, 8 size, lasts in boots, nails in the heels ; a pair of women'* leather Tops, lace- up fronts, 5 size; and two large pieces of sole Leather ; were stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Rust, Superintendent's Office. Headon ; to Inspector Kerry, Smalley ; to Sergeant Mosley, Ripley ; or at any of the County Police Stations in Derbyahire.— Bow- street, December 10. Between 1 and 3 p. m. on the 7th instant, the cottage of John Amey, gardener, Effingham, Surrey, was broken into, and a very old Fiddle, which has been repaired with screws, and an old green Bag, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Page, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking, or at the Police Station, Letherhead, Surrey.— Bow- street, December 10. During the night of the 8th instant the house of the Rev. Father Johnson, at Skipton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : two Sovereigns five or six Shillings in silver aud copper, 2 lbs. of Moist Sugar, ^- lb. of black Tea, in lead coloured paper, ' W. Stockdale, Grocer, Skipton " printed thereon, a Mutton Chop, and half a loaf of Bread. Information to be given to Superintendent Lottey, West Riding Constabulary, Skipton, Yorkshire.— Bow- strut, December 10. Between the hours of 10 p. m. and* 4 a. m. on the night of the 6th instant, the stable belonging to Mr. John Holliday, at the parish of Barnsboro, was broken open, and the following articles, the property of William Petch, the groom, were stolen therefrom, viz. : an old black mohair top Coat, very much worn, with two outside pockets, and has only two buttons upop it at the top, iu the pockets were a pair of woollen glove » , with a piece of red at the tops, and a yellow coloured woollen Muffler ; also a dark tweed cloth Jacket and Vest, both rather worn, with two holed bone buttons upon them. Supposed by tramps who may be wearing the stolen articles. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Riding Constabulary, Police Station, Leven, near Bever- ley, Yorkshire.— Bow street, December 10. Between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 7th instant, the cottage of David Jones, near Holywell, was broken and entered, aud stolen therefrom a Suit of brown tweed, the jacket is made sac fashion, the vest has a roll collar, the trousers a large flap, in good condition ; aud a pair of black cloth Trousers, haif worn. Tramps are su- pec ted. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, North Wales.— Bow- tt., December 10. Between 8 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the fith instant the dwelling- house of John Hallam, of Burnaston, near Derby, was broken into, and a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers, about half worn, fly fronts ; a dark cloth Waistcoat, boy's size ; a blaek scarf Shawl, torn at one end and darned; and a white calico Skirt, with three tucks, stolen therefrom. The trousers and waistcoat have been found pledged at Derby, by a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, proportionate make, dark complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in blue pilot round jacket, double breasted grey waistcoat buttoned very high, fustian trousers, and cap similar to those worn by engine- drivers with broad top. Information to be given to Super- intendent Whieldon, Litchurch, near Derby.— Bow- street, December 10. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, on the 3rd instant, from Garthucha, in the parish of Llandilofawr, Breconehire : a dark cloth double- breasted Over Coat, lined with red striped flannel, and pockets outside ; a brown cloth Coat and Waist- coat, with buttons of same colour ; a pair of cloth Trousers, with small brown spots; a pair of lace- up Boots, without nails ; and several other articles of Clothing. Supposed by two tramps : one is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender make, and dark complexion; the other is from 25 to 30 years of age, stout make, dark complexion, with rather thick lips ; they are wearing the stolen property. In- formation to be given to Superintendant Price, County Con- stabulary, Brecon.— Bow- street, December 10. During the night of the 3rd instant, the cottage of Robert Holt, at Fishponds, Gloucestershire, was burglariously entered aud the following property stolen therefrom : 6 calico Sheets, 2 diaper Towels, 1 Counterpane, marked ' J. C. 2 flannel Petticoats, 2 flannel Vests, marked ' C ;' 3 cilico Sheets, 2 flannel Shirts, 1 flannel Petticoat, marked ' H '; 2calico Sheets, marked ' M;' 1 silk pocket Handkerchief, red and white colour, and a canvas Bag with a round piece in the bottom similar to those used by soldiers; and two fancy woollen Shirts. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Staple Hill, near Bristol.— Bow- street, December 10. The tramping shoemaker charged with stealing Boots, &. C., at Tunbridge Wells, has been apprehended and committed for trial tit the next Maidstone Quarter Sessions ; he gave the name of ALFRED GEORGE HALL, and states he is a native of Cambridge. Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Ktul- Bow- street, December 10. Further particulars respecting JAMES PEARSON, alias WILLIAM JOHNS, alias JAMES HOWELL, who committed a burglary in the city of Oxford on the 4th, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th ultimo : the scars on the right side of his neck are scrofula marks, he has also a scar on right breast; he is a gunmaker, sometimes hawks type in frames for marking linen, usually sleeps in lodging- houses or low public- houses, and is supposed to be making his way to some seaport town tor the purpose of emigrating. £ 25 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction, and recovery of the property stolen and described in the Police Gazette of the 7th ult. Information to be given to Inspector Savage, University Police, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 7. During the night of the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Woodward, of Bridge- street, Worksop, tailor and woollen draper, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : eight new cloth Overcoats, mixed colours, some of thein have black velvet collars; a new light- coloured witney sac Overcoat, with black velvet collar, double machine- stitched edges, and pockets in front; and a new Russel cord Coat, very large. Information to be given to Superintendent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, December 7. During the night of the 4th instant, Langdon Villa, Charlton Kings, the residence of Captain G. B, Cornish, was broken and entered, and the following silver articles were stolen therefrom, viz.: a pair of Sugar Tongs, marked' G. 11. C.'; a Sugar Sifter, marked ' G. B. C.' in monogram; 5 Mustard Spoons, three marked ' H.' and two ' G. B. C.' ( four of these Spoons are like Salt Spoons); 4 four- cornered Cruet Stands; aud a Top off a Pepper Castor. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who wiii g: • such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Chelten- ham, Glouces'ershire.— Bow- strect, December 7. i Between 2 and 6 am. on the 5th instant the dwelling- house of Edward Terry, miller, Worth, was broken and entered, and a white sample Bag, marked ' Geo. Oldlield, St. Bartholomew's,' containing ill in gold and silver Coina, and a twill sample Bag, containing several copper Coins, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Stokes, Ktnt County Constabulary, Sandwich.— Bow- street, December 7. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the 2nd instant, from Alma- Bireet, Hartlepool, the property of Mr. Robert Newton: 4 large silver Table Spoons, marked ' N.' 5 small silver Tea Spoon?, old fashioned, marked ' J, E. S.' 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' N.' 1 silver Salt Spoon, marked ' N.' 1 silver Mustard Spoon, marked ' J. A. H.' 6 silver hafied Knives, smail size, quite new. 1 small gold mourning Brooch, with hair in the centre. Information to be given to Head Constable Waters, Police Station, Hartlepool.— Bou>- street, December 5. Between 11 p m. on the 28th and 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Wostenholm, pawnbroker, Bridge- street, Bel per, was entered, and the fol- lowing property solen : a tilver Geneva Watch, worn bare; a German silver Watch, Fiench movement; a German silver Watch ; a silver Watch, No. 400; a German silver Watch, No. 3606 ; several old fashioned silver Wutches; eight or nine gold wedding Rings ; two coral Necklaces; pilot Overcoata; pilot Jackets; cotton cord and cloth Trousers; about 8s. worth of Postage Stamps ; £ 3 10s. in Silver; 4s. or 5s. in Copper; a low soft felt Hat; a silver Watch, No. 692. The offender or offenders < eft behind them a pair of old dirty moleBkin trousers, very greasy, patched with dark brown cloth, lined with flannel, a pair of blue stockings, a pair of stockiug legs, and an old black cloth vest: it is supposed they came Irom Sheffield. £ 3 3s. reward will be paid to any person giving such infor- mation as shall lead to the recovery of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Shawe, Constabulary Office, Belper, near Derby,— Bow- street, December 3. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Burwell, on the night of the 7th instant, a yellow bay cart Horse, white face, light coloured or white legs, aged, rough, and in rather low condition. The Horse in the possession of three gipsey looking men, one riding, the others walking, passed through Bourne Bridge toll gate, on the road towards Chesterford and London, at 6 a m. on the 8th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Cambs.— Bow- street, December 10. Stolen on the 5th instant, from Arundel- st., Strand, a Pony and Cart: the pony 13£ hands high, mouse colour, ring from collar, scar on forehead, off hind fetlock while: the cart painted dark green, picked out with white, back panel cracked off shaft spliced in stop, ' Robert Fear, Walthamstow' on near shaft. By a man, 35 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and whiskers ; dressed in an old black rough coat, and billy : ock hat.— Metropolitan Police, F Division Dec. 10. Supposed t « have been stolen, during the night of the 2 POLICE GAZETTE; December 10. 3rd instant, from a marsh at West Thurrock, the property of Charles May, butcher, a dark bay nag Mare, in toa], aged, about 15 hands high, clean legs, switch tail, in low condition. Information to be given at the Police Station, Oraett, Essex.— Bow- itrect, Dicembcr 7. Supposed stolen from a field at Bratton, Salop, on the night of the 30th ultimo, the property of Mrs. Plant, a dark brown cob Pony, G years old, and a wagon Colt, rising 2 years old, roan colour, white blaze down face, three white fetlocks ; both are in good condition, and have rough hair, having been out in the fields. Information to be given to Chief Super- intendent Richardson or to Sergeant Christie, Wellington, Silop.- Soic- s.' rcci, December 7. Stolen from a field in the borough of Portsmouth, on the 16th ultimo, a brown nag Mare, rising G years, about 13 hands high, tail cut short and square, and has the hair rubbed off one knee. Iritormation to be given to Chiet Superintendent Barber, Portsmouth.— Bow- street, December 7. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Rowley Regis, on the ; 0th ultimo, a bay horse Pony, 3 years old, 13 hands high, and has a lump on one side of face. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Police Station, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- strut, December 7. Found in the borough of Middlesbrough, about 3 months ago, and supposed to have been stolen, a dark grey Pony, about 14 hands high, t wo years old, has never been shod. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Saggerson, Middlesbrough. — Bou- itreet, December 5. Supposed io have been stolen on the night of the 24th ult., from a held at Downton Castle, Herefordshire, a brown mare Pony, aged, from 12 to 13 hands high, supposed a few white hairs on the back under the saddle, a little white on one of the hind feet, mane turning to the left, tail cut square at the hocks, and in good condition, the property of A. R. Boughton Knight, Esq, Downton Castle, information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to Police Constable Jones, Constabulary Station, Leintwardine, Herefordshire.— Boa- street, December 5. Stolen from Albury, Surrey, oil the 29th ultimo, a black mare Pony, 2 years old, about 12 hands high, in low condition, has a small white spot above near hind hoof, and the tail has been wrung by the crupper. It has been traced to Epsom. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey, Guildford.— Bow- street, December 5. Further information respecting the Horse and Dog Cart, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 21st ultimo: it is supposed that the person who hired them may put up at an hotel, and having run up an account, leave them in pledge. A reward of £ b will he given for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender and recovery of the property, on application to the Worcester City Police.— Bou>- st., Dec. 5. Supposed to have been stolen since the 23rd ultimo, from Abbotts Court Farm, in the parish ot lloo, the property of Edward Lake, Esq , 4 Maiden Kent Ewes, marked ' E. L.' on the near shoulder, if ear marked, fork mark in off ear. Infor- mation to bs given to Superintendent Everest, Chatham. —. Bow- street, December 3. Supposed to have been stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the Old Wood Common, parish of Tenbury, the property of Mr. Edward Palmer, a 2- year old chesuut Mare, 14 bauds high, bang tail, aud white blaze down face. Information to be given to Sergeant Merrefield, Police Station, Tenbury, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, December 3. Supposed to have been stolen fron) ft fold near Scraps- gate, in the parish of Minster, Sheppy, Kent, on the night of the 27th ultimo, four Kent Lambs, marked ' A. T.' on near shoulder or hip iu pitch, and a small piece clipped out of near ear. Information to be given to Superintendent Gieen, Kent Constabulary, Sittingboume, or to Sergeant Noakes, County Police Station, Sheerness, Kent.— Bow- street, December 3. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 25th ultimo, from a field at. Gospel End, Sedgley, 3 ewe Sheep, marked 1 J. H.' on left side, also two Ewes, and one Wether, marked 1 W.' and crown on right side, the property of John Hickman. Information to be given to Sergeant Tomlinson, Police Station, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 3 Found straying in Romford, an 1 supposed to have been stolen, on the 12th ultimo, a bay mare Col', nag breed, year old, about 13 hinds high, small wliiie mark on hind fetlocks, long tail, and in low condition. Information to he given at the Police Station, Romford, Essex..— Bow- street, Dec. 3. coat, grey trousers, and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, December 10. Absconded from East Bergholt, Suffolk, on the 27th ult. charged with stealing two Skeps of stock hees with honey, the property of John Parker : EDWARD, alias TAMPIN MUL- LETT, liighler : about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, and whiskers inclined to sandy ; dressed in a dark velveeen frock coat, dark trousers, waistcoat and cap, and heavy lace- up high shoes. Information to be given to Police Constable Gobbett, East Bergholt, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boto- street, Dec. 10. Description of WILLIAM TAYLOR, alias CURLEY, a tramping labourer, who absconded from Great Grimsby on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a Top Coat, lined with blue ( red stripe); a black cloth Dress Coat, bound with black braid, pockets outside, one of which has been burnt through by a match ; a black cloth Waistcoat with sleeves, left pocket has a small patch on it ; a pair of mixture cloth Trousers with three large brass buttons ut the bottom of each leg ; a blue and red print Shirt, with four button holes 011 bosom, and five buttons to each, forming a diamond round each hole ; a red silk Handkerchief, with red and white flowers ; a flat top soft billycock Hat; a silver Watch, ' Spilsby ' engraved on plate ; a steel Chain, to which is attached two Seals, one bone, the other jet, and a copper Axe ; the property of Edward Perkins, with whom Taylor lodged a short time : he is about 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionate make, black curly hair ( rather long), a little hair on end of chin, a black mark on bridge of nose, which has been br< ken and is rather on ouo side, walks badly, feet turns out, takes short steps, and carries his head down ; dressed in white slop, fustian trousers, and btrong navvy boots with plates on the toes. He is well known in Hull, Market Rasen, ;. nd Lincoln, and was seen going fmm Hull in the direction of Lincoln on the day after the robbery, and is supposed to have disposed of the Btolen property in Hull. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent" Campbell, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 10. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of GROVES HICKMOTT, late of Tun! ridge Wells, hair dresser, who i s charged with stealing, in July last ( under the Fraudulent Bailee Act), a Gun ( since recovered). He is about 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and mous- tache, rather pointed chin, and dressed respectably in dark coat, light trousers, and high- crown d hlack hat. He is sup- posed to be in the neighbourhood of the Borough, and is well known in the neighbourhood of Powis- place, Notting- hill, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, December 10. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of ELLEN OSBORNE, charged with stealing. from her furnished lodgings at Tunbridge Wells, a Blanket ( found pledged), a Table Cloth, and a Knife. She is about 27 years of age, middle height, rather dark complexion, lost two upper front teeth, and dressed when she left in a dark dress and cloak, straw hat, and frequently wears a bonnet; works occasionally as a laundress. Her mother lives at Sydenham, at which place she is likely to be found. Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Kent,— Bou>- Uriet, December 10. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of GEORGE TURNER, late of Tunbridge Wells, who is charged with stealing, on the 25th ultimo, an old- fashioned silver Watch, double cased, figured face, maker Loof, No. 4344, a rusty steel Chain, a large leather Purse, aud £ 3 in Money, the property of his master, Frederick Hales.
