Absconded about midnight oil the 26th ultimo, from Broxburn, in the county of Linlithgow, after seriously stabbing William Kildare :] PETER ROURKE, labourer, native of - either the county of Cavan or Westineath, Ireland, about 28 years of age, 5 faet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, brown hair cut short, no whiskers, long thin face, rather large eyes •( one of which is blind, although open like the other, and hafc a somewhat glazed appearance), and has one of his large toes off Isy the first joint; dressed in a white moleskin jacket and • trousers, brown velvet vest, blue cloth cap with leather peak, and navvy boots. It is likely he will get employment at Shale Oil Works, or as a mason's labourer. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Linlithgowshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 8. possession ; he also attends Baptist Chapels and other religious meetings. — Metropolitan Police, Detective Department, A Division. October 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Middlesbrough, on the night of the 8th instant, a gold scarf Ring, with white stone in the centre, a pair of gold plated sleeve Links, a brass Seal with ' R. P.' engraved on it, and about £ 2 14s. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Saggerson, Middles- brough.— Bow- street, October 12. Stolen from the person of Thomas Edwards of Keel, on the road oear Welshpool, on the night of the 1st instant, a silver Watch, small dial, steel albert Chain, maker Edward Matthews, Welshpool, No. 2009. Information to be given to Sergeant Strefford, Police Station, Welshpool.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen from the person of a lady at St. Michael's church, Brighton, on the evening of the 7th instant, a gentleman's large flat gold Geneva Watch, with silver dial which is much tarnished in places, • Leroy,' on the inner case. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen from the person of James Rook, at Baldock, Herts, a large sized lever Watch, in metal case, the property of the Great Northern Railway Company, engraved on outside ' Great Northern, No. 110,' and inside " John Walker, 48, Princes- street, Leicester Square. £ 2 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. wheat straw Stack, Abont 8 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, a situate in the rick- yard of Mr. George Creswell, at the parish of Great Marlow, was destroyed by fire ; supposed to be the act of an incendiary. Information to be given to Inspector Clear, Police Station, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 3. FORGERY. Absconded, charged with forgery, and against whom a • warrant has been issued, JOHN HeNRY GREATREX, native of Gravesend, Kent, late of Glasgow, a photographer, - about 38 years of age, nearly 6 feet high, stout built, military appearance, gruff voice, good looking, fair hair combed over to the right,' large bushy drooping whiskers, moustache, and hair on chin ; is a member of the Plymouth Brethren. Was in business in Regent- street, London, as a photographer. He is in the habit of preaching in the streets, and has been in America. A female is with him, about 22 years of age, ordinary height, genteel and good- looking, round face, brown • crept hair, dressed in a heavy dark winsey or a light coloured check * vitli buttons down the front. Greatrex is charged, witli-^& e two Grimshaws at present in custody, with forging jEl Notes of the Union Bank of Scotland, great part of which have been recovered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of County Police, Edinburgh.— Bow- st., October 15. Description of EDWARD ALLAN, a shipbroker and commission ageot, lately residing in Peterhead, who is charged with forging and uttering bills of lading'in Banff and Macduff, in the county of Banff: he is a native of Peterhead, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers and beard dark and thin, lather long face, thick lips, rather heavy features and dull expression of countenance, proportion- ately made, and stoops a little ; dressed in long double breasted pilot cloth jacket, grey trousers, and black wide- awake hat, sometimes in grey coat and trousers with a mixture of yellow ; displays a great deal of jewellery about his person, and generally wears a heavy gold albert watch chain bearing masonic emblems ; his chest is diseased and he may seek medical advice. It is supposed tbat he will try to leave the country in some trading or passenger vessel, and it is believed that he is in possession of a large quantity of Scotch Bank Notes. In formation to be given to William R. Gordon, Procurator Fiscal, Banff, or to Chief Constable Robertson, Keith, Banff- shire, who holds a sheriff's warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 3. Description of a man charged on a warrant with forgery: JAMES WALFORD NURSE, alias JAMES WALFORD, alias PARWELL, aud other names : 28 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, rather dark complexion, dark whiskers, bald on top of head, hesitates in speaking, turns in his feet, aod has a stopping gait. He hasjbeen to America, and may stay at some hotel, he having a quantity of forged Dollar Bills in his BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The cottage of James Gilbert, of Sandyford, near Stone, was broken and entered on the 12th instant, and a black cloth Coat, outside pockets ; a grey mixture Vest and pair of Trousers; a black and white woollen Shawl; a black coburg Shawl, black silk fringe ; a green plaid Dress, black silk velvet trimming round skirt ; a pair of women's black cloth Boots, patent fronts; a grey calico Shirt, white front; two Half- crowns ; three Shillings ; a Sixpence ; and 3d. in Copper stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Bergen, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow street, October 15. Stolen from a cottage at Hartbury, near Gloucester, between 8 and 10 p. m. on the 11th inst, by means of house- breaking : a man's new calico Shirt, with small plaited front; a woman's Chemise, nearly new ; a Loaf of Bread, and a small quantity of Cheese. Supposed by a man dressed in a white slop ( having with him a woman of short stature, and three or four children), who was seen near the cottage. Information to be given to Superintendent Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, October 16. During the night of the Gth instant, the shop of Thomas Young, at Broomhill Colliery, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz: 12 yards of Rob Roy Tartan. 51 yards black and white checked Winsey. 25 yards of Holland, part of it dressed, and the other part undressed. 12 yards of Barege, dark and light green stripe. 11J yards of Winsey, green check large pattern. 12 yards of red Flannel. 12 yards of white Flannel. 12 yards of winsey Skirting, in 2 pieces, small check. 34 yards of woollen Skirting, puce and white stripe. 3 yards of woollen Skirting, red mixture, small check. 4 woollen Shirts, two of them red and black, the others magenta and bl- ick, men's size. 3 pairs of lady's Stays. 1 pair of long Drawers, men's size, grey colour, bound with red. Two men of the following description were seen near the place about 5 on the following morning, carrying large bundles, sup- posed to be the stolen property : one, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, full face, upper lash of right eye hangs down ; dressed in blue monkey jacket with pocket laps stitched round, black vest, moleskin trousers torn at the waist, and glengarry cap : the other, about 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate make; dressed in light coloured shooting coat, brown velvet vest with pink spot, dark trousers, and black bairy or sealskin cap tied over the top with strings : both are very dirty, aud have the appearance of ' muggers ' or hawkers. Information to be given to Superintendent Cocks, Police Office, Morpeth, Northumberland.— Boie- street, October 12. Between 5- 30 and 7' 30 p. m. on the 7th instant, a dwelling- house in the city of Durham was broken and entered, and two german silver Watches, an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, a silver Albert Guard, a german silver guard Chain, a gold Wedding Ring ( very much worn), about 30s. worth of Postage Stamps, aud a small j ipatined tin Cashbox stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent W. Beard, Durham,— Bow- street, October 12. During the night of the 9th instant, a dwelling- house in the township of Halton was broken and entered, and the fol- lowing property stolen therefrom: a black cloth frock Coat, two pockets in skirts behind and one inside left breast, sleeves lined with silk plaid of very small pattern, the skirts, which have been shortened, are lined with black alpaca, which is turned in, but having become loose in some places, hangs down and is frayed ^ t the edges; a woollen scarf Shawl, mixed colours, red, blue, and black, is fringed, which is also of mixed colours; a black aud white half- inch plaid woollen Bcarf Shawl, has a dull appearance, the colours having run in wash- ing ; a girl's black silk Jacket, machine- stitched with whits silk ; a girl's white muslin Skirt, has two tuckB; an alpaca Jacket, lined with grey calico, will fit a boy about 12 years of age ; a small Concertina ; an old mingled green Shawl; and about 2 lbs. of uncooked Pork. Information to be given to Inspector Egerton, Town Ball, Runcorn, Cheshire.— Bout- street, October 12. Stolen between 10 a. m. and 10 p. m. on the 8th instant, from the dwelling- house of Jobu Uunning, a miner, at bell- hill, Rothwell- Haigh, by breaking through the roof of the kitchen : a grey scarf Shawl, a new Paisley Shawl, a woollen plaid Dress- piece, a black worsted Shawl with silk fringe, & black silk Waistcoat with roll collar, a red woollen Shirt, and a pair of dark mixture Trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield.— Bow- street, October 12. Stolen from a tailor's shop in Somerset, between 12 p. m. on [ the Oth and 9 a. m. on the 7th instant, by means of house- breaking: a dark blue ribbed pilot cloth single- breasted Monkey Jacket, velvet collar, one button at breast; a dark Oxford mixture Vest, without collar; a red and black flannel Shirt; a Half Crown, and some Balfpence, one of them burnt. Also, about the same time, from the house of Alfred Baker, confectioner, Highbridge, Somerset, a quantity of Farthings and other Monies, amounting to about 2s. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Axbridge, Somerset— Bow- street, October 10. Between the hours of 7 a. m. and 12- 30 p. m. on the Oth instant, the dwelling- bouse of John Rumens, in the parish of Salehurst, Sussex, was broken into, and the following property stolen, viz: a pair of calico Sheets, nearly new; a pair of Blankets, marked ' Stobart' in one corner; a black round Frock, nearly new ; a black silk Vest, much worn ; a pair of light cord Trousers, very dirty at the bottoms; a black cloth Jacket, with pockets at the sides, and one outside ou the left breaBt, the left Bleeve has been torn ; a dark cloth Vest, with very, small collar; a pair of dark brown Trousers with four stripes on each leg, and bound with red binding round the waist, and dark buttons. Supposed by two tramps who were seen near the house, one about 20 years of age, about 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, and sandy hair; dressed in white slop and trousers, and black cloth cap; the other, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat and cap. Information to be given at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Lewes; to Deputy Chief Constable Thompson, Battle; or to Sergeant Pocock, Burwaah, Sussex— Bow- street, October 10. Between the hours of 6' 30 and 7' 30 p. m. the dwell- ing- house of Mrs. Norten, East- street, Shoreham, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz : 5 £& Notes, one London and County Bank, the other four Union Bank, Brighton, No. of one of the notes 77457; £ 15 10s. in gold; a Butter Knife ; a dozen Table Forks; a dozen Table Spoons; a dozen Tea Spoons; 0 Dessert KniveB and Forks; 4 Salt Spoons; 4 Salt Cellars; a Sugar Basin ; a Milk Jug; a Soup Ladle; ( all silver, some marked with crest- three daggers crossed, some' W. R.,'' E. M.,'' S. S,'' J. M. T.'; a plated Fish Knite and Fork ; u gold double Eye Glass, and gold Trichinopoly Chain attached ; a gold Trichinopoly Chain, round rope m ike; several Brooches, large and small, 1 cameo, man's head, and 1 small oval, garnet set in gold; 2 Rings, one diamonds and pearls, set as a rose, the other, single diamond surrounded by a ring of gold ; several Bracelets, some green stones, set in filligree work, and several other Trinkets; and an Indian muslin Ball Drees, ornamented with beetles wings, not made up. Description of two men in custody, charged with Jstealing the above property, which has not yet been recovered: WILLIAM SQUIRE, barman, 21, FinBbury- market, Finsbury- square, Loudon, 26 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches High, fair complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, Blight cast in eyes, and slight figure; dressed in black cloth Buit, brown overcoat, elastic- side boots, imitation button, white necktie, and black hat. WILLIAM BAKER, jeweller, 82, Upper Stamford- street, Blaokfriars- road, London, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, 110 whiskers, and rather stout figure: dressed in black coat and vest, dark speckled trousers, black necktie, black hat, and elastic- side boots Information to be given to Superintendent Bray, West Sussex Constabulary, Police Station, Steyning.— Bow- street, October 10. Between 1 and 7 a. m. on the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Houson Sears, Dartford, was entered by the front window, and the following property stolen therefrom: a Bilver Tankard, with inscription, ' Presented to Thomas Houson Sears by the Right Hon. — Summerfield, for five best Wether Sheep'; a plain silver Cup ; a silver Tea Spoon and three silver Dessert Forks, all marked ' T. H. B. S.,' with crest— a bird; also a pair of heavy laoe- up Boots, newly soled. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Kent County Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, October 8. Description of a man who, early on the morning of the ( 28th ultimo, burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Mr. j Jas. Nuttall, agent, of Poplar- street, Bolton, struck Mr. Nuttall 2 October 15. a violent blow on the face with a pair of tongs, and otherwise violently assaulted him, and afterwards got away, stealing £ 2 14s.: about 23 years of age, fi feet 7 or 8 iacues high, slenderly made, fresh complexion, hair cut short; dressed in old white linen jacket, black cloth vest, cord trousers much patched, shoes newly soled, cloth cap without lining and made in quarters; he left behind an old black cloth vest, a pair of shoes much worn, and a pair of tt Hikings; a portion of the articles he was diessed in were purchased of a clothes dealer on the same morning, to whom he stated that he wanted to go to Manchester by the 7' 27 train. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire.— Eow street, October 5. The dwelling- house of Mr. J. W. Russell, at Merthyr Tydvil. was broken and entered on the night of the 28tn ult., and the following property stolen : a papier- mache Envelope Case, filled with envelopes; a round wooden Snuff box, with woman's face and Btars painted on cover, containing some foreign copper and silver cuius; an octagon stone Ruler, of different colours; a stone Penholder; a silver Thimble ; three reels of different colouted Silk ; five reels of Cotton; a long white Bodkiu Case, elaborately caived ; a silver Vinaigrette ; two Tape Measures ou leels ; a small gold Fencilcase ; a small white Bodkin Case; a silver Fruit Knife, plated handle, engraved' H. G.'; and a Scent Bottle in form of a railway rug with straps. Inclination to be given to Superintendent Wrenn, Glamorgan Constabulary, Merthyr Tydvil.— Bow- street, October 5. small white spot on nose, 3 years old. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Dartford, Kent. — Bow- street, October 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMOX- WILLIAM COLLINS, charged on warrant with stealing a Watch from the ' Kobin Hood ' inn, Monmouth, has been committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions to be holden at Usk, on the 16th proximo.— Bow- street, October 15. Absconded from Coleridge, charged with stealing a quantity of Wool in July last, JOSHUA RAYMENT, a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, Btiff grown, black hair, whiskers shaved off, round features, small eyes, knees incline in and feet out ; dressed in a white slop and black tiousers ; supposed to have gone to Plymouth. Information to be given to Sergeant Davey, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bou- slt eet, October 16. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JOHN BIRCH, alias WELCH, late a butcher in the employ of Mr. ! Henry Squire, of Watford, for embezzlement : he was last seen in London, about 20 years of age, 5 teet 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, small light whiskers, walks badly ; dressed in an old brown coat without buttons, old vest, dark tiousers, and old deerstalking hat, very dirty. Information to be given to In- spector Hilsden, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, October 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a youth iu custody at Beccles, charged with stealing a bay Gelding from Beccles Common, on the 10th inst., which was found in his possession at Bury St. Edmund's, en the 12th instant: he gave the name ot GEORGE GYE, no settled place of residence, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, stout make, brown hair, full face, and fresh complexion; diessed in light wideawake, brown frock coat, white slop underneath, light cord trousers, and strong lace- up high shoes. He is supposed to have committed offences elsewhere, or to have been previously convicted. Information to be given to the Police, Beccles, Suffolk.— Bow- street, October 15. Supposed stolen from Moceas Farm, during the night of the 8th instant, tea white faced close woolled Ewes, pitch maiked' V. C.' on near hip. If stolen, £ 10 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Wilson, Shire Hall, Hereford.— Bou>- str « d, October 16. Further description of a man who took a Hone and Trap away from Bedfoid, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant. He is about Oil years of age, tall, rather long features, rusy cheeks, and dressed in grey coat fastened with one button, l uff waistcoat, soft felt hat, and gold studs in shirt. The horse and cart were sold to a cab proprietor near Euston- square, and he then stated that his name was THOMAS OSBORNE, landlord of the ' Compasses' inn, Chertsey, which is false. Information to be givtn to Chief Constable Stennett, Bedford.— X'ow street, October 16. Supposed stolen from a field In the parish of Strond, Gloucestershire, on the night of the 8th instant, a bay Mare, About 15 hands high, long tail, star on forehead, hind legs white to the fetlock, hair off right side. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, October 16, On the 6th instant, a man having the appearance of a horse dealer, left a black Filly at an inn in Bedford, and has not since returi ed for it. The filly is 14 hands high, rising 3 years old. It is supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stennett, Bedford .- Brno- street, October 12^" Found in the parish of Tivetshall, on the turnpike road from Ipswich to Norwich, on the night of the 6th instant ( supposed lo have been stolen), a small black Cart Mare, between 13 aud 14 hands high, aged, lung mane and tail, near fore foot and off foot white, aud chafed on hind legs. Infor- mation to be given to the County Police Station, Pulham- Harleston, Norfolk.— Bow- street, October 12. Supposed to have been stolen, on the 9th instant, from a field in the Pershore- road, Birmingham, the property of Mr. John Webb, 36, Carpenter's- road, Edgbaston, a stout cob chesnut Mare, about 14 hands high, long flaxen mane and tail, B star on forehe d, and when taken away was without shoes. A iesvard of £ 5 will be paid to any person recovering the above, and obtaining a conviction agaiost the offender, on appli- cation to Chief Constable Glossop, Birmingham.— Bow- street, October 12. Further information respecting the light grey cob Horse supposed to have been stolen from a field in the borough of Maldon, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th ultimo: it is now known to have been stolen aud has been traced on the road going in the direction of London, in the possession of a low horse dealer, who stated that he was going to Romford, but it is suspected that the cob was sold just on the borders of London, it has several marks about it and can be identified, is 14^ hands high, 8 years old, very deep hollows in the temples, near eye very weak, with a black mark immediately over it, as from a blow or fall, small ears, rather short tail, off hind hoof very much cracked, saddle marks, galled withers, i n low condition. £ 6 reward will be paid on recovery of the cM) and conviction of the offi nder or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable King, Maldon, Essex.— Bow- street, Oct. 12. The grey Horse described in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, as stolen from Loughton, Bucks, was found on the 8th instant in the possession of Edmund Elstone, carman, of Price's yard, Copenhagen- street, Caledonian- road, London, JOHN KINGHAM, a native of Pyrton, Oxon, recently residing at 36, Radnor- terraoe, South Lambeth, London, is in custody at Fenny Stratford, charged with stealing the horse: he is 42 years of age, 6 feet 9J inch eJ high, dark hair turning grey, and small dark whiskeis; dressed in brown mixture trousers and coat, light coloured waistcoat, black billycock hat, and elastic side boots; it is supposed he has committed similar offences, and been convicted. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Thomas Brtary, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 10. Supposed lo have been stolen on the night of the lst inst., from a field at Lower Gornal, Sedgley, a chesnut horse Colt, 2 years old, 14 hands high; also a dark brown horse Colt, 2 years old, and about 12 or 13 hands high, the property of Morgan Evans. Information to be given to Sergeant Tomlin- son, Police Station, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 8. He left Birmingham about twelve months ago, and lived in Carver street and Great Charles- street. Committed for trial at the next quarter sessions for the borough of Ludlow, charged with stealing a quantity ol female's Wearing Apparel from the ' Fee,' Ludlow, also with stealing from a shop iu the Narrows, Ludlow, a pair of women's Boots: a voung worn in who gives the name of JANE HAYCOCK,* 4 feet 11 inches high, grey eyes, dark hair, long thin face, sharp Dose and chin, has a burn on right side of face near the chin, which she hides with the strings of her bonnet; when apprehended she was dressed in a light bonnet with blue ribbon, a blue check silk dress with cuffs trimmed with black velvet and lined with white silk, and black buttons with white spots down the front; she was convicted on the 31st December, 1864, at the quarter sessions for the borough of Much Wenlock, of stealing wearing apparel. N.: he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 J inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, bald on the front part of the head, several scars on forehead, apparently from wounds, rather stout, and is of gentlemanly appearance and address ; fashionably dressed in black cloth coat, black hat with a cloth mourning band, and carried a small dark walking stick with a silver twisted ferrule round the top.
