"•* Whenever it is desired that any person eliouid be appre- henced, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must toe prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded about midnight on the 26th ultimo, from Broxburn, in the county of Linlithgow, after seriously stabbing William Kildare : PETER ROURKE, labourer, native of either the county of Cavan or Westineath, Ireland, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, brown hair cut short, no whiskers, long thin face, rather large eyes ( one of whiih is blind, although open like the other, and has a somewhat glnzed appearance), and has one of his large toes off by the first joii. t; dressed in a white moleskin jacket and trousers, brown velvet vest, blue cloth cap with leather peak, and navvy boots. It is likely he will get employment at Shale Oil Works, or as a mason's labourer. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Linlithgowshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 8. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 8 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, a wheat straw Stack, situate in the rick- yard of Mr. George Creswell, at the parish of Great Marlow, was destroyed by fire ; supposed to be the act of an incendiary. Information to be given to Inspector Clear, Police Station, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 3. FORGERY. Description of EDWARD ALLAN, a shipbroker and commission agent, lately residing in Peterhead, who is charged with forging and uttering bills of lading in Banff and Macduff, in the county of Banff: he is a native of Peterhead, 28 years of age, 6 feet G or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers and beard dark and thin, lather long face, thick lips, rather heavy features and dull expression of countenance, proportion- ately made, and stoops a little ; dressed in long double breasted pilot cloth jacket, grey trousers, and black wide- awake hat, sometimes in grey coat and trousers with a mixture of yellow; displays a great deal of jewellery about his person, and generally wears a heavy gold albert watch chain bearing masonic emblems ; his chest is diseased and he may seek medical advice. It is supposed that he will try to leave the country in some trading or passenger vessel, and it is believed that he is in possession of a large quantity of Scotch Bank Notes. In- formation to be given to William R. Gordon, Procurator Fiscal, Banff, or to Chief Constable Robertson, Keith, Banff- shire, who holds a sheriff's warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 3. Description of a man charged on a warrant with forgery : JAMES WALFORD NURSE, alias JAMES WALFORD, alias PARNELL, and other names : 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather dark complexion, dark whiskers, bald on top of head, hesitates in speaking, turns in his feet, and has a Btojping gait. He has| been to America, and may stay at some hotel, he having a quantity of forged Dollar Bills in his possession ; he also attends Baptist Chapels and other religious meetings. — Metropolitan Police, Detective Department, A Division, October 3. Stolen from the person of John Small, in a public- house at Shroton Fair, between 10 and 11 a. m. on the 26lh ultimo, a silver double bottomed consular vertical Watch, No. 1703. Information to he given to Deputy Chief Constable Hammond, Dorset Constabulary, Sturminster Newton.— Dow strut, Oct. 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM TH£ PERSON- Stolen from the person of James Rook, at Baldock, Herts, a large sized lever Watch, in metal case, the property of the Great Northern Railway Company, engraved ou outside ' Great Northern, No. 110,' and inside John Walker, 48, Princes- street, Leicester Square. £ 2 re » aid will be paid for such information as Bhall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Mr. R. Williams, Company's Inspector, King's Cioss Station, LondoD. — How- strut, October 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 1 and 7 a. m. on the 6th instant, the dwelling' house of Mr. Thomas Houson Sears, Dartford, was entered by the front window, and the following property stolen therefrom : a silver Tankard, with inscription, ' Presented to Thomas Houson Sears by the Right Hon, — Summerfield, for five best Wether Sheepa plain silver Cup; a silver Tea Spoon and three silver Dessert Forks, all marked ' T. II. B. S.,' with crest— a bird ; also a pair of heavy lace up Boots, newly soled. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Kent County Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, October 8. Description of a man who, early on the morning of the 28th ultimo, burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Jas. Nuttall. agent, of Poplar- street, Bolton, struck Mr. Nuttall a violent blow on the face with a pair of tongs, and otherwise violently assaulted him, and afterwards got away, stealing £ 2 14s. : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slenderly made, fresh complexion, hair cut short; dressed in old white linea jacket, black cloth vest, cord trousers much patched, shoes newly soled, cloth cap without lining and made in quarters ; he left behind an old black cloth vest, a pair of shoes much worn, and a pair of ( tickings ; a portion of the articles he was dressed in were purchased of a clothes dealer on the same morning, to whom he stated that he wanted to go to Manchester by the 7" 27 train. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire.— Eow- strcet, October 5. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person, and a free pardon to any accomplice, who shall give such information to Super- intendent Lidbury, Weymouth, Dorsetshire, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons ( and recovery of the property stolen) who burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Dr. Smith, Greenhill, Weymouth, about 4 a. m. on the 12th ultimo, and stole a gold Watch and other property, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th ultimo.— Bow- street, October 5. The dwelling- house of Mr. J. W. Russell, at Merthyr Tydvil, was broken and entered on the night of the 28th ult., and the following property stolen : a papier- mache Envelope Case, filled with envelopes; a round wooden Snuff box, with woman's face and stars painted on cover, containing some foreign copper and silver coins ; an octagon stone Ruler, of different colours ; a stone Penholder; a silver Tliimble ; three reels of different coloured Silk ; five reels of Cotton; a long white Bodkin Case, elaborately carved ; a silver Vinaigrette ; two Tape Measures on reels ; a small gold l'encilcase ; a small white Bodkin Case ; a silver Fruit Knife, plated handle, engraved ' H. G.' ; and a Scent Bottle in form of a railway rug with straps. Infoimation to be given to Superintendent Wrenn, Glamorgan Constabulary, Merthyr Tydvil,— Bow- street, October 5. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 7 and 9 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, 7 Half Sovereigns ; six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' R. C.'; two Table Cloths, marked ' W. C.'; two calico Sheets, a silver Albert Guard with red stone in Key, and a small gold Scarf Pin with round bead. Information to be given to Superintendent Thoraby, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bou>- street, October 3. Between G and 8 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house and shop of Mr. John Rundle, grocer, Crewe, was entered by picking the front- door lock, and about 30s. in Cash, 3 lbs. of Butter, 3 lbs. of Black Tea, twelve plated Tea Spoons, and one pair of plated Sugar Tongs were stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Inspector Wood, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- itreet, October 3. During the night of the 29th ultimo, Burton Mill, Here- fordshire, w as broken into and six bushels of Flour stolen there- from ; two Sacks were also stolen, one marked ' J. E. Winnall, Burton Mill,' the other ' Little Burton Mill.' Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 10 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Police Station Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- sireet, October 3. Stolen from the house of John Bridger, in the parish of Leominster, on the 28th ultimo, a double- cased silver Watch, large size, and the name of ' J. Bridger ' marked on the inside case with a pin. Information to be given to Superintendent Holloway, West Sussex Constabulary, Leominster, near Arundel— Bow- street, October 1. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information to Superintendent Cockshott, Settle, West Riding of Yorkshire, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who broke and entered the shop in Upper Settle on the night of the 14th ultimo, and stole the Monies and other Property, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 21st ultimo, the property of the Settle Co- operative Society.— Bow- street, October I. Between 9 and 12 a. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of John How, of Addington, Kent, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: two pairs of black cloth Trousers, two black cloth Coats, two black cloth Vests, a black Overcoat, several Neckties of different colours; two Handkerchiefs, one white, marked ' W. How' in rad cotton, one red, marked ' W. How' in white cotton; and about i' 10 in Gold and Silver. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Kent County Constabulary, Kast Mailing, Kent- Bow- street, Oct. 1. Further information respecting the property stolen from Horeb Chapel House, in the parish of Llanfair, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo: on the 24th ultimo a tramp was seen crossing the hill from the direction of the chapel towards Llanervil, with a small buudle wrapped in a white linen cloth ; he was about £ 5 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, whiskers and moustache turning grey ; dressed in a brown tweed loose overcoat button- ing up to the neck, dark cloth trousers, oil- case cap with peak, the fore parts of his shoes are cut. Information to be given to Police Constable Davies, Llanfair, or at. the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 1. Between 10 p. m. on the 24th and 7 a. m. on the 25th instant, a dwelling- house at Hightown, near Heckmondwike, was entered with skeleton keys, during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen : 1 white damask Tablecloth, marked' S. S.' 1 red and white Tablecover. 4 old white cotton Shirts, plain fronts, marked' J, S. J.' 1 linen Shirt, plain front. 1 small brass Timepiece. I Razor and Case, mirked ' Jackson, Hightown,' 1 pair of black cloth Trousers. 1 black cloth Vest, black and green lining. 1 black silk Dres9, tiiiumed with black gimp, 1 inch wide, slate coloured cotton lining. 1 black satin Dress, trimmed with velvet gimp. 1 brocaded dove coloured silk Dress, lined with black cotton. 1 black and lavender silk Dress, trimmed with black satin. 1 light brown stuff Dress, black and white stripes, trimmed with frills of same material. 1 black silk Dress, trimmed with ribbon velvet and black gimp. I purple, black, and gold colour mohair Dress, trimmed with black gimp, 4 inches wide. 1 snuff coloured muhair Dress, trimmed with black gimp. 1 alpaca scarf Shawl, trimmed with brown silk. 1 brown winsey Skirt, stripes round bottom. 2 black Jackets, trimmed with ornamental gimp and lace. 1 green and chintz batcge Shawl, silk fringe of mixed colours. 1 dark red and blue Scarf Shaw), trimmed with black silk fringe. 1 blue and grey cheneille Scarf Shawl. 1 Scarf Shawl, red and black ground, with black worsted fringe. 1 flannel Petticoat. 1 silk Handkerchief, with white middle and blue border, marked ' S. S.' 1 India silk Handkerchief, red border. 10 yards of magenta and black woollen Shirting. 4 yards of purple and grey Shirting. 6 pair of Bed Sheets, some marked ' N.',' G. L.', or' J. S. 1 linen Chemise, marked ' S. S., No. 3,1863.' 1 black corded silk Vest, black and green lining. 1 small Portemonnaie. 1 small Vinaigrette, marked ' S. C.' 1 small silver Pencil Case. 1 woman's Night DreBS, with needle- work round edges. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 28. On the night of the 17th instant, St. Paul's School, Chippenham, was broken and entered, and £ 1 in silver and copper Monies Jand the following Books stolen therefrom: a small Reference Bible, ' St. Paul's School' written on the cover ; a Pinnock's' Old Testament History'; five Arithmetics; a Colenso's Arithmetic ; Thompson's Arithmetic; a Sullivan's Geography; one on Food, one on Clothing, and one on Dwelling- houses, marked on the fly- leaf with the Government stamp. Supposed by a middle aged man, 6 feet 8 or ' J inchts high, long nose, thin made, supposed to hare a scar on hand or finger; dressed in black coat and trousers and black high hat broad in the brim. He carried a black shiny bag with a strap across his shoulder and is a hawker of books. He is supposed to be the man who has lately committed simila offences at the schools at Andover and Tetbury. 10s. reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Staples, Chippenham, or to Superintendent Woodman, Malmebury, Wilts.— Bmc- street, September 28. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the Ist inst,, from a field at Lower Gonial, Sedgley, a chesnut horse Colt, 2 years old, 14 bands high; also a dark brown horse Colt, 2 years old, and about 12 or 13 hands high, the property of Morgan Evans. Information to be given to Sergeant Tomlin son, Police Station, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Ban- street, Oct. 8. Stolen from a field within half- a- mil « of Marlborough, on the night of the 6th instant, a dark brown Horse, 15 hands high, 12 years old, thick set, large belly, broken winded split inside the near hoof behind, long tail, newly shod, the property October 8. § of John Farmer, of Wantage ; two men were seen in the field ' Halfway House' Camperdown, a small brown coloured pit about 11 o'clock the s. me night. Information to be given j were advertised in the Police Gaz- tte of the 7th instant), and to Superintendent Brando'u, Daittord, Kent .- Eon- street,, for whose apprehension a variant has been issued in each case : " " 1 JOHN LINDON, a horsedealer's assistant, nutive of Tamworth, Warwickshire, and late of Voughton's Hole, Birmingham, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair cut short, whiskers shaved off, oval face, narrow chin, much pockpitted, fresh complexion, red neclc, ' small hands, walks with short quick step ; dressed ( when last seen at Shaw- lane on the 4th instant, with the stolen horses) in a black glazed overcoat and bright black leather leggings ; has the appearance of a groom or low liorsedealtr. Also description of a man who accompanied Lindon at the time the horses were stolen : a'lout CO years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate make, little or no whiskers, slight cast or detect in one eye: dressed ( when seen with the stolen horses) in a heavy drab topuoat, high bat, and cord trousers fitting tight to the leg. Stolen during the night of the 1st instant from a field at Loughton, Bucks, a light grey nig Horse, 5 years old, loi hands high, long mane and tail, one fore foot nearly white. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Naphill, iu the parisli of Hughenden, on the night of the 27th ultimo, a half- bred chesnut Filly, in good condition, 14 hands high, rising 3 years old ; also a baj Filly, in lo* condition, 12 hands high, rising 2 years old ; the property of Thomas Let, farmer. Information to be given to Superintendent Shepherd, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 3. Stolen from a field in Stamford- road, Bowdon, on the night of the 17tli ultimo, a very light coloured gelding Donkey, in good condition, long tail, white star on forehead. Sup- posed to be in or near Manchester, as it was offered for sale in • Swan- street, Manchester, on the 18: h ultimo, by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high ; dressed in Uue guernsey, cap, and dark trousers. £ 1 reward will be paid on recovery of the donkey and convictiou of the offender. Burton, of Whittlesey, farmer, on the night of the 23rd ultimo, an active bay cart Mare, in good con- dition, a crease down the back, 4 years old, about 16 hands high, white heels behind, white mark on face, fore feet stand well forward, a thick stumpy mane, had no shoes on hind feet when stolen, n mark of a recent kick on one hind leg: supposed by a knacker horse dealer, who is now in custody on remand, but the mare is nut recovered. £ 3 reward will be paid by the said Benjamin Burton, on the recovery of the mare and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from Lilbourne, Northamptonshire, on the night ot the 25tli ultimo, a brown Mare, the property of Mr. Marston, of Lilbourne, with white hind teet and a white blaze down the faoe, ha! f bred between a nag and a cart horse, in good condition 6 years old, 14 hands high, and has a mark on the near flank from which a wart has been recently taken off. Also on the night of the 26th ultimo, from Hillmorton, Warwickshire, a whitechapel dog Cart, the propeity of Mr. Sutton, Hillmorton, without seats, of a dark colour picked oat with red, green, and buff, and with one new shaft which does not correspond with the other in shape. Supposed to have been stol n by the same petson or persons as 6tole the mare above described. Whoever shall give such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or i- ffcnders will receive £ 5 re- ward on application to the owners of the property ; tie Super- intendent of Police, Rugby, Warwickshire ; or to the Superin- tendent of Police, Weedon, Northamptonshire.— Bow s'reet, October 3. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the night of the 26th ultimo, an iron grey horse Pony, 12 hauds high, 2 years old, long tail, and without shoes, In- formation to be given to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Staffordshire.— Bom- street, October 3. Supposed to have been stolen, a brown nag Mare, aged, in low condition, about 16 hands high, has a white spot on each side of the withers and some white hairs on the off side of neck underneath the mane, the hair off inside * f the off hind leg between the hock and fe lock, soies from colkr on shoulders, hair of mane worn away by collar. She was sold in Ramsey Fen about the 24th ultimo, by a man who was advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing a bay cart mare from Whittlesea, Cambs, Information to be given to Acting Superintendent Hamilton, Ramsey, Hunts.— — Bow- street, October 3. Supposed to have I een Btolen, one night last week, from a field in the parish of Berdoch, near Penryn, the property of Mr. Joel Blarney, a bay Exmour Pony, 11 hands high, one ear cut, and branded ' H. & M.' Information to be given to Police Constable Edwards, Borough of Penryn, Cornwall.— Bon- street, October 1. Supposed to have been stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a field at Lower Denford, Hungerford, two Donkeys, one a small dark brown Mare without shoes on fore feet, and feet much worn, and the other a light coloured male. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to their recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen, shall reccive 15s. reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Harfield, Berks Constabulary, Newbury, or to Sergeant Bennett, Hungerford, Berks.- ita- s.' ml, Oct ber 1. Found, on the night of the 26th ultimo, supposed to have been stolen, a bay cart Colt, 15 hands high, white legs, white blaze down forehead, long mane and tail, risin 3 years old. Also a dark bay brood Mare, aged, 15$ hands hi a, and white star on forehead. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— bom- street, October 1, Description of WILLIAM STARBUCK, charged with stealing the Horses ( since recovered) from Rudge, near West- bury, on the 18th of August last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th of August: he is about 28 years of age, o feet 10 inches high, dark eyes, hair, and whiskers, thin ; dressed in a dark tweed coat, long waisted, and raised seams, light woollen cord trousers, tight in the legs, and black round crowned silk hat; carried a furled riding whip, and is very fond of showing a good magenta silk handkerchief; is a native of Hammersmith nnd well known to the police in that neigh- bourhood, also at Bracknell, and has been in the habit of staying with gipsies at Windsor and Ascot Heath, and is generally called GIPSY WILL. £ 5 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Superintendent Matthews, Wilts Constabulary, Fisherton, Salisbury, who holds a warrant fur his apprehension.— Bow- st. Odcber 1. Found on the 8th instant ( supposed stolen) an old brown Mare, 16 hands high, star on forehead, near hind foot white, white ring round off foot above the fetlock, switch tail, hollow back, scurvy on hack. Information to be given to Superintendent R. Hare, Shaltesbury, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street Sifkmbsr 28. Stolen between 3 and 6 a. m. on the 22nd instant, from the Stolen from Whittlesey, on th » night of the 23rd instant, a bay c- irt Mare, 4yearsold, about 15 hands high, whr. a mark on lane, hind heels white, thick s ump tail, and is in good condition, no shoes on hind feet, the property of Mr. B. Burton. Committed for trial at the next quarter sessions for the borough of Ludlow, charged with stealing a quantity of female's Wearing Apparel from the'Fee,' Ludlow, also with stealing from a shop in the Narrows, Ludlow, a pair of women's Boots : a young woman who gives the name of JANE HAYCOCK, 4 feet 11 inches high, grey eyes, dark hair, long thin face, sharp nose and chin, has a burn on right side of face near the chin, which she hides with the strings of her bonnet; when nppreliended she was dressed in a light bonnet with blue ribbon, a blue check silk dress with cuffs trimmed with black velvet and lined with white silk, and black buttons with white spots down the front; she was convicted on the 31st December, 1864, at the quarter sessions for the borough of Much Wenlock, of stealing wearing apparel. Also found in her possession : two white Jacket Bodies, braided, one marked ' E. E. Lloyd Jones. 4,' the other ' E. E. Lloyd Jones. 4—/ 60 ;' one silk Stocking, maikei ' L- 6;' one white Stocking, ' M. K. J.;' on Stocking, ' A. Williams 1— 60;' and other articles ; the silk dres-; is supposed to have been stolen fiom some place near Wednesbury or Darlaston, where she was in service in May or Jure last. Supposed by some person who came down by the train due at Deptford at 8 p. m. The child is now in the Deptford Union Work- house. Description of a man who has absconded charged with altering pawntickets and afterwards selling them ; the ink is removed from the ticket by some kind of acid ; he is about 47 years of age, 5 feet fij inches high, light hair, sandy whiskers, chin shaved, thin; dressed in a French cap with large bright peak, and light or check trousers ; is a tailor, and has served in the 47th Foot. For a similar offence he was imprisoned for six months in Nottingham Gaol, and during the past two or three years he has been going from town to town committing similar offences. In his possession was found a new magenta shirt with black anchors on it, plain front with four pearl buttons down it, which is supposed to have been stolen. He states that he has been workingi at different salt works in Cumberland, and was working with bricklayers at Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, about 14 days ago ; he came by way of Middlewich, Tarporlty, Sand bach, Knutsford, and Warrington ; he was in Knutsford Gaol about three years ago for an act of vagrancy. Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, off lines in three different gardens in Leominster, the following articles of Wearing Apparel : two white Shirts, two Shifts, two white Petticoats, and three Stockings, all supposed to be marked with ink ' Ashley'; from another garden a flannel Petticoat, a green plaid Skirt, and a cotton lilac Apron. Supposed by a man and woman who took lodgings in the immediate Veigh- bourhood. They went to bed at 8 p. m. ; the man got up at 12 p. m., leaving the woman in bed. She stated in the morning that her husband had gone to Hereford to get some clothes out of pawn, and that she was going after him, which turned out to be false, as she was traced going in the direction of Tenbury as far as Wooferton. The man plays the cornet, is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache very thick but not very long, has the appear- ance of a foreigner ; dressed in dark coat, aud vest, dark blue trousers, good boots, and felt hat. The woman is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inche* high, proportionate make, fail- complexion, wore drops in her ears ; dressed in white straw bonnet trimmed with blue ribbon, grey mantle, light brown dress, and cloth boots ; carried a large basket in her hand with double lid on top ; and had with her a spaniel Hog, white with brown spots.
