Description of SAMUEL MUTTLEY BARTLETT, who obtained cash for a forged cheque of the East Loudon flank, Limited, for £ 6 5s., payable to W. Bartlett, purporting to be signed by W. H. Forster, at Taunton, on the 24th ultimo : about fiO years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, stoutly built, deaf, and respectably dressed ; he was a convict at Port- land in 1851 or 1852, when a meeting or conspiracy of prisoners was divulged by him, whereby he obtained a remission of his sentence ; he has also been in the County Gaol at Southampton about two years ago ; he carried, when in Taunton, a carpet bag and paper parcel. Stolen between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 25th instant, from the person of a gentleman, at the Royal Oak Grounds, Newton Heath, Manchester, a gold Geneva Watch, No. 29129— 2816. Any person giving such information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offenders, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 1 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester, or to Superintendent Chadwick, Old Trafford.— Bow- slrtet, Aug. 29. Stolen on the 27th instant from the person of ROBERT PACY, a labourer at Buxted, a silver Geneva Watch, double cases, has a brass clasp on the outer case, and a silver watch Chain. Stolen from the person of a labourer, at Tadcaster, York- shire, on the evening of the 25th instant, a silver lever stop Watch, engine turned case, wore almost smooth, maker Holds- worth, Tadcaster, No. 12772. Information to be given to Superintendent Parkin, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 29. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of A. Lucas, Esq , West- terrace, Darlington, was broken and entered, and the following silver articles stolen therefrom : twelve ivory handled Knives ; twelve Dessert Forks, figured ; six Dessert Spoons, six large and six small Dinner Forks, six Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern ( all marked ' L' in old English) ; six nearly new Tea S( joons, four Egg ditto, figured handles; a Dessert ditto, marked ' M. A. T.' and other initials; two Table ditto, marked ' L ' in old English ; a Salt ditto, a Mus- tard ditto, two Sugar Sifters, one lined with gold ; a pair of Sugar Tongs, two small Forks, a Table Spoon, a large Soup Ladle, marked ' L' in old English ; a Marmalade Dish Stand, about 6 inches in diameter, with a stawberry on handle ; a Cruet Stand and six Cruet Tops ; a ditto ditto, small size, leaf pattern ; a flat solid Inkstand, about 8 ins. long, with grove for pens, and two bottles ; a Thimble, a pairjof scissors, a Bodkin, and a brass or gold wire Frame to hold the box containing the thimble, scissors, and bodkin. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Durham County Constabulary, Dar- lington.— Bow- street, September 10. Between 9 p. m. and 5 a. m. on the night of the 31st ult., the shop of Henry Morris, boot and shoe maker, Wrentnall, was broken into, and a pair of men's watertight Boots, un- finished. with the Lasts in them, were stolen therefrom. In- formation to be given to Sergeant Smith, Dorrington, Salop, or to Police Constable Sumerville, Longden.— Bow- street, Sep- tember 6. Between the 23rd and 27th ultimo, the house of George Ellis, of Hatfield- Peveril, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : a light cloth Overcoat, three pairs of Sheets marked ' G. H. E.', two old Coats, a pair of Trousers, an old Cloak, and two Blankets. Information to be given to Superintendent May, Witham, Essex.— Bow- street, September £. Description of a man charged with housebreaking at Tonbridge on the 28th ultimo : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 8 inches high, dark hair, small light moustache, and dressed in a long black coat, vest, and trousers. He left his hat behind him, and is supposed to belong to Southwark. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Tonbridge.— Bouo- street, September 3. Description of a man charged with breaking into the house of William Burrows, Theascombs, in the parish of Minchin- hampton, between 3 and 4 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, and stealing £ 1 8s. 3d. : a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark curly hair, dark eyes, black bushy whiskers all round his face, rather slightly made, is fund of low company, very fond of snuff, and plays on a tin whistle ; dressed in a white billycock hat with a black band round it, ' Taglioni' coat, white moleskin trousers, rather dirty, and boots without nails ; he was sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude for stealing clothes at Monmouth, about 1858. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, or to James Critchley, Constable in charge.— Boio- street, September 3. Description of GEORGE BRAMAH, late of Tankersley, who is charged with breaking into a store room at Tankersley- lane, on the 12th ultimo, and stealing therefrom the following articles, the property of Benjamin Wood, a collier: a blue pilot cloth Jacket and Vest, a black cloth Vest, a pair of light cloth Trousers, since recovered ; a number of Neckties, and £ i 10s. in Gild and Silver, which has not been recovered: 29 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, stout built, large features, a number of teeth out in front and left side of mouth, knuckles on right hand contracted, wore moustache and beard ; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, light mixture trousers, and black billycock hat; a blacksmith. It is probable he may be found working at some iron works in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bou>- street, September 3. Between 6 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 28th instant, the dwell- ing house of John Reumson, labourer, of Steeton, Yorkshire, was entered by means of breaking a pane of glass and opening the window, and the folic wing property stolen therefrom: a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, red and drab lining, double breasted, two pockets outside, three horn buttons; a blue- black single breasted shooting Coat, two pockets outside, back and sleeves lined with white calico, dark horn buttons; a light single breasted Waistcoat, brown horn buttons; a dark drab cloth single breasted Waistcoat, horn buttons, lined with white calico ; a pair of woollen cord Trousers, nearly new, lined with white calico, white metal buttons, bound round the waiat with drab braid; two blue striped calico Shirts; two pairs of worsted Stockings, one pair blue, the other grey; a pair of men's Boots, lace- up fronts, brass eyelets, newly Boled, and nailed with steel nails ; a blue plaid silk Kerchief. Between 11 p. m. and 6 a. m. on the night of the 21st instant the dwelling- house of Thomas Hall, of Ledbury, was burglariously broken into, and the following property stolen: two white calic J Shirts, one of them marked ' E. A.' or : A. A.' in ink ; three white Petticoats, one marked ' G. J. Biddulph two Sheets, marked ' Lewis' in ink; three Tablecloths, one marked ' H. Pitt' in ink, one with a little red cotton sewn in the corner as a mark, aud the other with a bit of hlack cotton; two females' Nightdresses, one marked ' E. B.' in ink ; E Chemise ; a pair of white Sto ikings, marked ' E. A.'; a chamber Towel, marked ' Lewis'; two white Aprons; a boy's hlack cloth Jacket with black binding, pockets outside. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent G. Tanner, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bouyslreei, August 31. Stolen during the night of the 2Gth instant, from the dwelling- house of Charles Gurney, of Ledbury: a pair of Blucher Boots, six lace holes on each side, three or four new square headed hobnails in the outside of each heel; a 2- foot Rule, which has been broken and repaired with brass plates; two plated Table Spoons ; a pair of silver Spectacles; a pair of olack Gloves; two Tablecloths; a Pocket- handkerchief; a Towel; and a steel Tobacco- box. A youth, a convicted thief, a native of Ledt ury, of the following description, is suspected: about 18 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sallow com- plexion, brown hair, thin face, turns out his toes when walking ; supposed to be dressed in black jacket and cap and light trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent G. Tanner, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- tired, August 31. Between 2 and 4 a. m. on the 29th instant, four dwelling- houses at Little Horsvood, Bucks, were burglariously entered, and there were stolen from James Wakes, two new calico Shirts, one with Irish linen front; 8 yards of new Calico; a shepherd's plaid Shawl; a homemade Hearth Rug, red, hlack, white, and grey bordered cloth, 4 feet by 3 feet: and from Thomas Quainton's, a silver Table Spoon, marked with three initials; a pair of old- fashioned silver Sugar Tougs, plain; a silver Caddy Spoon, plain ; a silver plated Caddy Spoon, plain; three small very old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, plain; five gei'inan silver Tea Spoons, plain ; about F 1 in Silver and 2B, in Copper; three parts of a bottle of Gin; a lj- pint yellow earthen Jug ; a blue and white Basin ; and a red and white Tea Cup. Supposed by a man of middle height and size, dressed in light slop, dark trousers hat or cap, and had across his arm a dark coat; has the appcarance of a bricklayer's labourer. Between the hours of 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 20th instant, during the absence of the family at divine service, the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Hirst, Cartwiight- street, Doncaster, was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom: 1 large old- fashioned gold Watch, with gold dial. 1 gold Locket, with miniature portrait of a young man. 1 small gold Pencilcase 1 gold Seal. 1 old- fashioned stiver verge Watch, with gold seal. 2 Table Spoons, 11 Tea SpoonB, 1 Salt Spoon, 1 Mustard Spoon, and 1 pair Sugar Tongs, all silver. 3 silver Pins. 2 gold Rings, one with white stone, and one with red. 1 gold Wedding Ring. 1 large gold Brooch, enamelled, with dog in centre. 1 large gold Mourning Brooch; engraved ' In Memory of T. On the 25th ultimo a man of the following description got a watch repaired, answering the description of the one stolen, at a shop in Newcastle- upon- Tyne, and tendered a £ 5 note of I lie Carlisle Bank in payment, which was refused, as the bank had failed eome years ago ; he also had a pistol which is supposed to be the 6tolen one : about 36 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in black cloth coat, and check silk vest ( supposed those stolen from the house), cord trousers, tight fitting moleskin leggings up to knee, blue scarf, black cloth cap, boot on one foot and old shoe on other, the latter much cut about the upper leather. The coat is sup- posed to have been sold or pledged in Newcastle, as he was afterwards seen wearing a white slop. He is supposed tu be of weak intellect, as his conduct and conversation were rather childish, and has the appearance of a mason's labourer. Supposed by a lodger ( who absconded the same day), a collier, about 29 years of age, nearly 5 feet 7 inches high, ratber light complexion, light hair, and sore eyes ; dressed in brown coat, cord trousers, cap, and clogs.
