IVotice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. "„" Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must toe prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 12th instant the dead body of a new- born male child, in a very decomposed state, was found in the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal, at Hempstead, near Gloucester, it was wrapped in an old napkin with three small stones placed inside for the purpose of sinking it; the coroner's jury returned a verdict of ' wilful murder against some person or pereous un- known.' Information to be given to Superintendent Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, July 23. On the 1st instant the body of a man was found in the Sunderland Docks, and from the wounds on his person there is reason to believe he was murdered : between 26 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches long, dark hair and chinette ; dressed in blue guernsey frock, fustian trousers, and blucher boots. Any persou who can give any information which may lead to the identification of the body, or of any man missing from a ship in the port of Sunderland between the 1st and 20th ultimo, is requested to communicate with Chief Constable J. Stainsby, Sunderland, Durham. — Bow- street, July 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Robert Williams, on the night of the 20th instant, in an out- building, at Ruyton of the Eleven Towns, <• unty of Salop: an old- fashioned silver Watch, maker W. Marston, Salop, No. 102, and £ 1 18s. Supposed by a man who was in the out- building with Williams, but has since absconded, he is about 6 feet 8 inches high, light hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in a brown velveteen jacket, moleskin trousers, and light billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, County Constabulary Office, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, July 23. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the 16th inst., at Bewdley Railway Station, a gold Watch, No. 2264, makers Stf "^ ry and Sons, Cornhill, London. Stolen on the 14th instant, from the person at Masham, in the Worth Riding of Yorkshire, a silver lever Watch, No. 110, maker William Pratt, Masham, sunk seconds, and gold hands. Information to be given to Inspector Alderson, Bedale, or to Superintendent Walmsley, Leyburn, North Riding of York- shire.— Bow- street, July 16. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Cardiff, on the night of the 12th instant, a silver lever Watch, No. 6659. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff. — Bow- street, July 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking between the 27th ult. and the 16th instant, from the house of Miss Louisa Walthew, of Burley- in- Wharfdale, six old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, much worn, and a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, all marked ' J. H. M.' ( with a star underneath). Also stolen, from the house of William Broadwith, of Stainburn, farmer, by means of forcing the cellar grate, between 11 p. m. on the 16th and 4 a. m. on the 17th instant : a black cloth loose Coat, with black covered buttons, bound with black worsted braid, black lining, two pockets outside, and one outside left breast ; a brown cloth ditto, with brown alpaca lining, dark brown buttons, two pockets outside, and one outside left breast; a white silk Pocket Handkerchief, with black and yellow border; and a white holland Apron. Also stolen, from the house of John Hawke, of Stainburn, farm labourer, between 4 and 7 a. m. on the 17th instant: a black cloth loose Coat, black covered buttons, two pockets outside, and one outside left breast; a black cloth Sac Coat, ribbed, with black velvet collar, one inside and one outside left breaBt; a black woollen Scarf Shawl, with silk fringe; a green and red ditto, fringe same colours ; a drab and black woollen plaid Shawl, with blue border ; a black woollen Scarf Shawl, woollen fringe. £ 2 re- ward will be paid to any person who will give such informa- tion as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the above property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given Superintendent Sykes, Police Office, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 23. During the night of the 19th instant, Ffynonbeder Chapel in the parish of Tremain, was broken and entered through the window, and a large Welsh Bible, six small ditto, six Testa- ments, six small Books, headed ' Lyllydd Rhwydd,' 4 F/ ynon- beder' was written on each book, a bottle of Wine, and part of a Window- blind, made of white calico, stolen therefrom. Also, during the same night, the vestry- room belonging to Blaencefn Chapel, in the parish of Verwig, was broken and entered through the window, and a white linen Tablecloth, a bottle of Wine, some oatmeal Bread, 3lbs. of Cheese, 2 lbs. of Butter, and some Tobacco, stolen therefrom. Also, during the same night, the workshop of David Evans, Blaenffrwd Aberporth, shoemaker, was broken and entered through the window, and about 6 lbs. of Leather for uppers or fronts, a shoemaker's Knife, a ball of Hemp, and some Nails, stolen therefrom. Supposed by two tramps who were seen in the neighbourhood on the 19th instant: one rather tall, dark hair and whiskers, dressed in dark clothes and glazed cap ; the other shorter, sandy hair and whiskers, dressed in brown or light clothes and cap. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hall, Llaridyssul, Carmarthen, or to Sergeant Davies, Cardigan.— Bow- street, July 23. Between the hours of 10 p. m. on the 18th, and 2 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling house of Mr. Joshua Smith, at Radley, was burglariously broken into, and the following pro- perty Btolen : a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, and five silver Tea Spoons, marked • J. M. S.'; Sve silver Tea Spoons ; one silver Table Spoon ; one silver Mustard Spoon ; five electro Forks, marked ' S.'; two Table Spoons, marked ' B.'; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, newly soled ; a Basket of Clothes was Bet on fire and consumed. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon.— Bow- street, July 23. g On the night of the 19th instant, or early the next morning, the house of Mr. Beswick, Duffield- road, Derby, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom viz: 6 silver tea Spoons ; 1 silver table Spoon ; 1 silver gravy Spoon ; 2 silver dessert Spoons ; 2 silver salt Spoons ; 1 silver punch Ladle ( with a coin at bottom); 1 pair of German silver sugar Tongs ; 1 ivory Purse ; 1 pencil Case; 1 black silk Dress ( with rings of crape up the skirt); 1 lady's silk Jacket trimmed with crape ; 1 half cashmere Shawl with a black velvet border ; an<! 1 flannel Petticoat. The tea Spoons were marked ' £. A. S.' and the rest of the plate « G. E. A. B.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Hilton, Town Hall, Derby.— Bow- street, July 23. During the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. G. Roberts, of Norton Disney, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen: 1 pair of silver Sauce Ladles; 1 small Salt Dredge ; 1 pair of Salt Cellars ; 7 Dessert Spoons, marked ' G. R.'; 6 Table Spoons, three marked ' G. R.', the others plain ; and 1 Mustard Spoon— all silver. 14 Forks ( 7 large and 7 small), one marked ' G. R.'; 6 Egg Spoons ; 1 Cruet- stand; 11 Tea Spoons— all electro- plated. 1 black ebony Workbox, inlaid and filled up with pearls. Information to be given to Inspector J. Allingham, Kesteven Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, July 23. Between 1 and 2 a. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Wilkinson, of Hornbank Rigton, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz.: seven silver Tea Spoons, marked ' T. F. W.'; two silver Table Spoons, marked ' J. E. B.' ; an old- fashioned silver verge Watch ; an ivory handled Knife ; and seven 3d.- pieces. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Ormsby, Court House, Knaresborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 20. On the night of the 16th instant, a burglary was com- mitted at the ' Coach and Horses' pnblic- house, Low- row, near Brampton, Cumberland, and the undermentioned property stolen : three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, a quart Bottle con- taining about a pint of Rum, a brown papier- mache Snuff Box, containing three Dice, one of which had six numbered on opposite sides; a Half- Guinea, 5s. in Coppers, and a 6d., a 4d., and 3d. Piece ; and a pair of Wellington Boots with square toes. Supposed by atramp, tall and slender, who complained of having sore feet, called at the above inn at 10- 16 on the same night, and partook of a glass of ale; he wore leather straps round his legs below the knees. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 20. Description of two sailors, suspected of entering the dwelling- house of Henry Fortune, in the parish of Peterstone, between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 1st instant, and stealing a magenta and black plaid Scarf Shawl, a Concertina with twenty keys, some of them out of order, and a Violin with two strings on : one about 35 years of age, £ feet 6 or 6 inches high, stout, dark complexion, hair, and moustache; drtf or serge shirt, dark trousers and cap. HORSE AND CATTLE STE Supposed to have been stolen by gip Tadcaster, Yorkshire, on the night of thejt brown cart Mare, aged, 17 hands high, off ran3 fe'tlock white, shaggy mane, switch tail, several wind galls on legs, and in low coudition. Information to be given to Superintendent Parkin, West Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 2^ f< J] Supposed to have been stolen from Bronington, Flintshire, during the night of the I9th instant, a bay cart Mare, blister on off fore- foot, and a Welsh cob Mare, about 14 bauds mp, and white hairs under the mane. The property of Mr. Allen, who will give a rewatd for their recovery, if stolen, or pay all expenses, if strayed. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Flintshire Constabulary, Hanmer.— Bow- st., July 23. Stolen during the night of the 20th instant, from a field at Stickney, near Spilsby, the property of John Sowden, an iron grey clean- legged cart Colt, 3 years old, 15 hands high, a small range down the ( ace, a small white streak down each side of the neck near the shoulder, far hind leg white half way up, long tail white at the end. Information to be given to Sergeant Berry, Stickney, or to Superintendent Wright, Police Station, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— bow- street, July 23. Supposed to have been stolen from Marchhowel Mountain, in the parish of Cadoxton- juxta- Neath, between the 25th ultimo and the 17th instant, a dark iron grey Mare, 4 years old, about 13J hands high, square tdil reaching to the hock, in good condition, the property of Mr. Samuel White, of Neath. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Neath, - Glamorganshire. — Bow- street, July 23. ( Left at the ' George and Dragon' inn, Fenny Compton, Warwickshire, on tfie IQtli instant, and supposed to have been stolen, a light brown nag Mare, apparently about 9 or 10 years old, 15^ hands high, black legs, black mane and tail, cut level above the hocks, and has a few white spots on the back from the saddle; also a double- reined Bridle and a Saddle with double girths, has' Crago, London,' and ' C. F, Allen,' on the bottom of stirrups, the bridle bit has ' Eariley' on one side, and 1 London' on the other. By a man who had the appear- ance of a gentleman's servant; he had with him another horse, which he said was sold, and he was going to Leamington, and would call for the other the next day, aa he had brought it to ride home on, but he has not since been heard of. Information to be given to Inspector Pugh, Kineton, or to Police Constable George Harris, Fenny Compton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, July 20. Description of a horse in the possession of the police at Hanley, supposed to have been stolen or obtained by false pretences: a dark brown bay Horse, long tail, black legs, star on forehead, a swelling on near fore knee, 16J hands high, and aged. Information to be given to Superintendent Stuart, Police Office, Hanley.— Bow- street, July 20. Further information respecting the entire Colt and brown Mare, supposed to have been stolen from Seisdon, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th instant: some gipsies who were camping in the neighbourhood, and left about the time the horses were missing, are suspected. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horses. Information to be given to Sergeant Price, Police Station, Trysull, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Brno- street, July 20. Found, supposed stolen, on the 17th instant, at the parish of Great Packington, an aged dark brown Mare, 16 hands high, white face, near side feet and legs white, short mane and tail cut square at hocks, and sore back ; also a light- coloured young male Donkey, without shoes. J.' cut on fore hoof, and in good condition ; a bay cart Mare, about 16 hands high, 4 years old, star on fore- head, and in good condition; and a brown cart Mare, about 15 hands high, a » ed, and in good working condition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow street, July 20. Stolen during the night of the 16th instant, from a field at Stivicball, near Coventry, a bay cart Horse, about 6 years old, white mark on face, some grey hairs on hiud legs, and scarred by a kick upon near hock. Whoever shall give such informa- tion as ' will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or. offenders shall receive a reward of £ 5 5s. from Mr. Henry Akerman, Treasurer of the Combe, Binley, and Warwickshire Association for the Prosecution of Felons, and a further reward of £ 5 5s. from Mr. Pridmore, the owner ; and if any accomplice will give such information he shall be entitled to the same rewards, and every means u » ed to obtain a free pardon. Information to be given to Police Constable Webb, Earlsdon, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bou- st., July 18. Supposed to have been stolen from a field upon Congleton Moss, on the night of the 7th instant, a brown Mare, about 6 years old, 16i hands high, black legs, white star on forehead, long tail, and in Mori condition, the property nf Wm. Morris, farmer and cattle dealer, Congleton. All reasonable expenses will he paid on its recovery, and conviction of tbe off nder or offendere. Information to be given to Superintendent Bohauna, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow street, July 18. Supposed to have been stolen in Pillory Street, Nantwich. Cheshire, on the 10th instant, a dark bay Mare, aged, about 16 hands high, white star on forehead, and has black legs and feet. LARCENY ANT EMBEZZLEMENT- Absconded on the 16ti i istai t, from No. 23, Gosset street, Bethnal- green, stealing £ a 10s.: a youth, 13 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes; dressed in dark jackct, light vest, cord trousers, dark cap, and lace boots.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, July 23. Stolen from a lodging- house at Broseley, about the 17th instant, a pair of low Shoes, laced up the Iront, nearly new, the property of Joseph Bradeley ; also a black and puce plaid Shawl, the property of Elizabeth Wally. By a woman, who is going ahout the country with a travelling hat cleaner: she is about 40 yenrs of age, rather tall; dressed in black jacket made out ot a ma^.' s coat, brown skirt, straw tionnet covered with alpaca, aid of shub'iy appearance. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Stoke Goldington, Bucks, on the 21st instant, a dark blue Dress, trimmed with blue braid round the bottom and black velvet on the sleeves, new ; a new black Shawl, bound with black aDd white velvet ; a green plaid Shawl; f. nd a white Guernsey ; the property of James West, of Stoke Goldington. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, very much pockpitted ; dressed in a light drab coat, cord trousers, dark vest, black scarf, coloured shirt, whi collar, Scotch cap, e'a= tic- side biwts very much worn, uo tops to his stockings; he was seen to leave the house where the robbery was committed, on the morning of the 21st instant, with a bundle under his aim, and traced to the Ravenstone and Weston Underwood tollgate, and is sup- posed to have gone to Northampton, Bedford, or Lrndon. Information to be given to Inspector Allen R. Hedley, Police Station, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 23. Absconded on the 14th instant, from No. 72, Seymour- street, St. Pancras, stealing £ 1 14s. 6d.: a youth, 16 years of age, short, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; dressed in new grey mixture cloth suit, black cloth cap, and lace boots.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 23. Description of THOMAS GREEN, a shoemaker, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, for stealing the Materials with which he had been entrusted to make up a pair of ( ady's side- spring Boots, and a pair of lasts, the property of Mr. George Blake, bootmaker, Reading, on the 17th instant: he is from 46 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, very little ur no whiskers, and auburn hair turning grey ; dressed in a dark brown cloth coat, corduroy trousers, and high crowned black hat; said he was a member of the Shoemakers' Trade Society, and is likely to call at the club houses. Inlormation to be given to Chief Superintendent James Purchase, Borough Police Office, Reading, Berks.— Bow- strcet, July 23. Absconded from Wrexham, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, and for whose apprei ension a warrant has been issued: THOMAS GRIFFITHS, 15 years of age, about 4 feet 10 inches high, round face, and good looking; dressed when he absconded in light oloth jacket and trousers, black vest, and a muller hat. It is supposed he may have gone to his uncle, who keeps a blacksmith's shop, named Griffiths, at Penwyn mawr, Carnarvonshire, where he was staying before coming to Wrexham. Information to be given to Superintendent Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- mad, July 23. Absconded on the 13th instant from No, 3, Blackmoor- street, Drury lane, stealing £ 3 9s. 8d., a man, 44 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, sandy coloured moustache, finger nails discoloured, and dressed in a dark suit and hat. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Mary Ann- street, Birmingham.— Metropolitan Police, F Divi- sion. July 20. Stolen on the 15th instant, from Buxton House, Highbury Hill: a grey tweed Stable Suit, a blue cloth Coat and Vest, two sets of silver- plated Harness, one double, the other for a pony; a Bridle, ' B,' on each side; a Quilt, a pair of Sheets, a Horse Brush, a Dandriff ditto, a Comb, and six Collars, various. By a man, 25 years of age, £ feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, ditto bushy whiskers, and nose pointed. Supposed dressed in the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Police, Y Didsion, July 20. Description of EDWARD RANDALL, of Sturminster- Marshall, Dorset, charged with embezzlement. He is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and whiskers turning grey, and swarthy complexion: dressed in a dark mixture coat with pockets at the side, light mixture trousers, sometimes wears light cord breeches and gaiters, low crowned hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Baynton, Dorset Constabulary, Wimborne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, July 20. Stolen on the 16th instant, from No. 8, King- street, Grosvenor- square : a pair of light tweed peg- top Trousers, seam outside ; A silver engine- turned vertical Watch ; a plain link Albert Chain with Key attached ; and 2s. 2d. By a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark clothes, and black feit . hat,— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 20. Absconded on the 14th instant from his employer, St. Thomas- street, Southwavk, stealing £ 7 : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, full face, boil on tip of nose, walks erect ; dressed in loose dark paletot, dark trousers, aud black hat.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, July 20. Stolen between 4 p. m. on the 16th and 7 a. m. on the 17th instant, from No. 6, Gainsford- street, St. John, South- wark, £ 26 8s. 6d. in Gold and Silver. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light hair ; dressed in pilot jicket, blue trousers and cap, and light vest.— Metro- politan Police, M Division, July 20. Stolen on the 10th instant, from No. 55, Harmood- street, Kentish- town, a pair of lady's Drawers and a black cloth Cloak.
