Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the samo, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. Whenever it is desired that any person should oe nppre- iiended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor Ulll^ t tie jirepilid, otherwise the insertion will not he made. It is requested thnt the Names aud Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot he published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At 12- 30 p. m. on the 28th ultimo the body* of a female Child, about 4 months old, was found in the River Calder, at Hawksclough, in the township of Wadsworth, in an advanced state of decomposition ; there was no clothing, except a cotton chemise turned up at the bottom ( appears to have been worn by an older child aud altered to fit the one found drowned), and a twilled cotton binder round the waist, marked 4 B | 6', supposed to have been given out of some workhouse. An inquest has been held on the body, and a verdict returned of 4 Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, or to Inspector Kershaw, West Riding- Constabulary, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, . June 1. Description of two men charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Henry Ellison, of Dalton, near Wigau, gamekeeper, on the morning of the 18th ultimo, for whose apprehension warrants are issued : JAMES CRITCHLEY, alias OLD BRUSS, of Dalton, qua'ryman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, thin features, light brown hair, grey eyes, very rough looking, and bow- legged ; dressed in mole- skin and cloth cap. JAMES ASCROFT, alias CROW CHEETHAM, also of Dalton, quarryman, 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin features, brown hair, grey eyes, much marked about hands and face from a blast of powder, from the effects of which his fingers are slightly contracted ; dressed in black monkey jacket, cord trousers, and blue cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, County Constabulary, Pemberton, near Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 30. Desciiption of JOSEPH ELLARD, groom, who absconded from Leamington, Warwickshire, about the 3rd inst., charged with maliciously wounding Nicholas Wright, at Melverton, on the 27th March last : he is 33 years of 8ge, about 6 feet 7 ins. high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, sallow complexion, deeply pockpitted, and turns his feet out when walking ; supposed to be ires- ed in a light tweed suit and black hat ; he was traced to London, and will most likely seek employment as a groom at some mews in the neighbourhood of Oxford- street. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Lapworth, Melverton, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension.— Bow- street, Mav 30. The dead body of a male Child, supposed about 2 months old, vva6 found in the River Avon, near the Great Western Railway Bridge, Bristol, on the 19th instant, and at the coroner's inquest held on the 23rd instant, the jury returned a verdict of * Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. - The said child was dressed in a calico eliirt, with selvage at the bottom and narrow edging on the sleeves, a flannel whittle, bound at the top with white tape, blue selvage at the Bide and marks of tar all over it, calico belly- band joined at the end with calico of a different kind, two napkins, one with a hole in it, darned at one corner, and bound on the top with new white tape, the other made apparently from the tail of a skirt, having three tucks in it. Information to be given to the Officer on duty at either of the Police Stations in Bristol. — Bozo- street, Map 28. the counties of Warwick, Northampton, Oxford, and Bucks, for London. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person during the opening of the Public Park, Bolton, ou the 24th instant: A gold lever Watch with grey dial and engine turned cases. A silver verge Watch, winds up in the dial, and has a crack at the figure 6. A silver verge Watch, No. 20251. A silver verge Watch, dented in several places on outside case, gold Guard attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow street, May 28. Stolen from the person of Charles Copley of Rotherham, fitter, whilst laying drunk and asleep in Bassingmoor Lane, Rotherham, early on the morning of the 25th instant, a silver lever Watch, No. 4G41, maker A. Taffinder, Rotherham, with a silver albert secret link Chain attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire.— Bow street. May 28. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Description of JAMES McSHARRY, a seaman, charged with setting fire to a rick of Straw at Hartlebury, near Stour- port, on the 26th ultimo, in company with another tramp, named WILLIAM PAGE, now in custody : McSharry is about 24 years of age, about 6 feet C inches high, black hair, no whiskers, very dark complexion, much sunburnt, and is a native of Ireland ; dressed in a grey flannel shirt, black trousers, black cap, no shoes or stockings ; he left Birmingham on^ the 28th ultimo, aud i9 supposed to be tramping through BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of John Kennerley, of Lower Withington, near Macclesfield, in the county of Chester, was burglariously entered and the following property stolen therefrom : a pair of man's stroDg Boots, with iroiu lips, heels, and toes ; a grey tweed Vest with smoked pearl buttons, one missing, single breasted ; a man's grey calico Shirt, with linen front and wristbands, ironmould ou front of breast; seven packets of Needles, a wire Brooch, a yellow gilt ditto, and a brown and white bundle Handker- chief with a patch on it. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Williamson, County Police Office, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, June 1. Between 11 pin. on the 29th and 6 a. m. on the 30th ult., the house of Mr. Caslake, at Sevenoaks, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a black cloth Great Coat, with velvet collar; a black cloth Frock Coat; and a small Timepiece, with brass rim. Information to be given to Superintendent Colinan, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, June 1. Between 10 p. m. on the 30th aud 0 a. m. on the 31st ult., the dwelling house of Joseph Maughan, farmer, of Worsall Grange, was entered, and tbe following property stolen there- from : a very dark grey cloth Top Coat, single breasted, three pockess outside and one inside right breast, raised stums, supposed to have a button off the bottom, man's size, half worn caps over the buttons ; and 5 or G lbs. of cooked Bacon. Supposed by a tramp from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches to G feet high, very dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, proportionate build ; dressed in a long dark green frock coat, much faded, buttoned up tight, dark cloth cap, and bad shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Stoksley, or to Acting Inspector Spence, North Riding Con- stabulary, Yarm, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 1. During the night of the 20th ultimo, seven Fleeces of Southdown Wool were stolen from the barn of Mr. Davies, of Lletty- gyn- farch, in the parish of Forden, Montgomeryshire ; and on the night of the 30th ultimo, the granary of the same house wns broken into and ten moro Fleeces of the same sort were stolen therefrom : they will weigh about 6 lbs. each, some of them are feintly pitch marked ' R. D.' on left side, and tehre are no other marks on any of them. They can be identified. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool ; or to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, June 1. Between the hours of G and 9 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the house of Isabella H. Hills, of Shirley, was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom ; a gold Chain ; three gold Seals ; a gold Watch Key ; a gold Ring, with ruby and diamond ; two gold Brooches, one ruby and pearl, the other diamond ; a silver Knife, with pearl handle ; three silver Tea Spoons, marked ' II. W. II.;' a silver Salt Spoon; a Dessert Spoon, marked ' E. T. M. H.;' a pair of gold Earrings; a gold Seal, Neptune's head in cornelian; a silver Pencilcase ; a guard Chain ; a silver Brooch, fleur- de- lis ; a silver- edged Eyeglas3; a Scent Bottle, with silver- gilt top; a small cornelian Cross, with gold top; a black anchor Brooch; £ 3 10s. in Gold, and some loose Silver. The whole of the property has been recovered. A man of the following descrip- tion is charged with eight cases of housebreaking at Bitterne : about 2G years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sandy dun- dreary whiskers, pockpitted, and red nose ; dressed in a light overcoat, black cloth undercoat, black vest, light tweed trousers, high crowned black hat, and very gentlemanly in his manners ; he is accompanied by a female about 19 years of age, very thin face, and dressed in a black silk dress with two flounces at the bottom, small black jacket, new fashioned white hat trimmed with black, dark brown feather, and black fall. They left Southampton at 11 p. m. on the 26th instant and posted to Winchester, and took mail train to London. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Con- stabulary Station, Bitterne, or at any of the Hants Constabu- lary Stations,— Bow- street, May 28. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen, on the 12th ultimo, from a field at Banstead, Surrey, a bay Mare, 14 hands high, short tail, collar marked, light scar on fore knees; had on a hemp halter.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, June 4. Supposed to have been stolen from Brierly, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, since the Oth ultimo, a light brown entire Donkey, about C years old, both ears split at the ends, a Blight burn mark on the thigh under the tail, and in good condition; the property of Mr. Joseph Jones, of Ruardeans Hill, Glouces- tershire. Information to be given to Superintendent- White, Coleford, or to Sergeant Burge, Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, June 4, Stolen on the night of the 29th ult, from a field in the occupation of William Allenby, Esq., of South Thoresby, 2 ewe Hogs, in the wool, underbitted on both ears, and a red paint mark on near hip ; supposed to have been taken away ill a horse and cart. £ 20 reward will he paid to any person or persons who will gave such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders or offenders. Information to be given to the said W. Allenby, Esq., or to Inspector Groom, County Police Station, Alford.— Bow- street, June 4. Supposed to have been stolen fiom a field in Briton Ferry, on the 25th ultimo, a bay Mare, aged, from 14 to 15 hands high, collar mark on the oti Bide, black square tail and legs, walks very close behind. Whoever will give such information to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Neath, Gla- morgan, as will lead to the recovery of the same, shall be handsomely rewarded.— Bow- street, June 4. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the' Horse and Groom' public- house, Ascot Heath, a Pony aud Chaise, the property the Hon. Mrs. Byng, The Lodge, Virginia Water: the pony is a brown gelding, aged, 12 hands high, a remarkably good trotter with high action, mark on the knee aud on the near flank done with the singeing iron'; tbe harness wa9 partly plated and partly covered ; and the carriage is a double bodied basket, painted black picked out with green; there was no cushions in the carriage. By a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, face very much freckled, aud dressed in a twill waistcoat with black calico sleeves, aud had the appearance of a groom. He has been traced through Egham and over Staines Bridge, where he was met by two men who got into the carriage, one carried a black hag or parcel. £ 10 reward will be paid for the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender a, id recovery of tbe pro- perty, Information to be given to Inspector Reece, County Police Station, Windsor, Berks.— Bote street, June i. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of Weaterham, on the night of the 29th ultimo, the property of Mr. E Dye, a bay maro Cob, 13 hands high, no shoes on, about 4 years old. Information to be given to Superintendent Column, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow street, June 1. Stolen from Clee Hill, Salop, on the night of the 10thult., a dark brown 6he Donkey, aged, two marks on small of back, and right fore foot turns in. Information to be given to Super- intendent McWilliam, County Constabulary, Bridgenorth, or to Police Constable ( 82) W. Jones, Clec Hill, near Ludlow Salop.— Bow- strcet, May 30. Supposed to have been stolen from a farm on the night of the 23rd, or the morning of the 24th instant, a bay Pony, between 11 and 12 hands high, with a white spot on nose, and a white star on forehead. Information to be given to John Lloyd, Esq., Solictor, Llaudyssil, or to Police Constable Pierce, Llaudyssil, Cardiganshire.— Bow- street, May 30, Stolen during the night of the 17th instant, from a field at Frolesworth, the property of Mr. Stannage: a dark brown cob Mare, 8 years old, 13$ hands high, small head, white star on forehead, black mane and tail, three black legs, one hind foot white up to the fetlock, saddle marked on one side, and chafed with the bellyband on both 6ide6. £ 2 reward on conviction of the offender or offenders. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of THOMAS SMITH, an Irish convict, discharged on licence from Lusk Prison on the 2nd October last, charged with having stolen, on the l!) th December last, at Worston, near Stafford, a pilot cloth Jacket and other Clothing ; about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, oval face, pale complexion, small hole under left cheek : is a labourer, and is knowa at Newcastle under- Lyme, Lichfield, and Willenhall. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 4. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from No. 38, Chester- mews, Pimlico, a silver Geneva Watch, maker Motter, with a common brass Chain attached. By a mas 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, and dressed in a brown jacket, tweed trousers fitting tight, and lace- up boots.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, June 4. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, embezzling various sums of Money amounting to £ 4 15s., from No. 67, King's- road, Chelsea, a man 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, light hair and eyas; dressed in black coat and vest, grey trousers, and hat. Stolen on the 30th ultimo from Sussex- place, Slough, a lady's gold Gin v. i Watch with gold dial, figures on dial much worn, makor Li Croix, No. 7106 or 7100, had a Mack jet link Chain with steel Cross, Anchor, uud Heart attached, and a gold Riri; with plaited hair secured by a small gold Heart, ' C. A. to J. A ' stamped on inside. By a servant, 22 years of age, short and stout, i'uk complexion, dark hair and eyes; dressed in white crinoline bonnet with purple strings bound round the front with black Lice, and drab stuff dress with small stripe. She recently left the Windsor Refuge for Fallen Women, where she had been for two years. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hodgkinson, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- ttrcel, June 1. Description of FREDERIC WEBB, charged with stealing a joiner's Plough, which has since been recovered : 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, large front teeth ; dressed in shoit grey twilled jacket wiili flannel jacket under- neath, cotton cord trousers, and cup. He is a wheelwright, gnd no doubt will seek employment. Supposed to be a Cam- bridgeshire man, and gone Stamford way. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, County Police Station, Grantham, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Boa- street, Mat/ 30. Absconded from the parish of Llai. wehllyn, in the county of Merioneth, on the 23rd instant, chargi d wiih stealing a £ 5 Bank of England Note and four Sovei eigns, the property of Rowland Junta, farmer, in whoso house she lodged with a navvv, living as his wife! MARGARET EVANS, alias WILLIAMS, alias CATHERINE EVANS, a prostitute, a native of Talbont or Taliesyn, Cardiganshire, from 30 to 35 yesrs of age, 4 feet 10 or 11 inches high, stout build, long features, especially the chin, red cheeks, some of the front teeth are lost, aud those remaining are black; dressed, when last seen, in a dark or black shawl with red border, dark straw hat with velvet trimmings, red striped stockings, and new leather slippers, all neat and clean. On the morning of the 24th instant she was seen taking a ticket to go by the 6- 40 a. m. train from Penmienpool to Machynlleth, but her ticket not having been delivered theie, it is supposed that she went further by that train, either to Newtown or Welshpool, or may lave chmged at Mutt Lane for Llanidloes; she may go to South Wales, as she is well acquainted there ; she is in the habit ot following iiavv'es of the lowe t claos. luforuia. ion to he given to Inspector Hughes, Bala, Merionethshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Ulna- street, Ma'/ 30. a donkey out of Leicesleishire, which has since been recovered, and who is remanded till the 7th instant : about 60 years of age, 5 feet G inches liif< h, stoul built, round shouldered, dark brown hair and whiskers turning grey, very brown com- plexion ; dressed in cord trousers, diity pepper- and- salt jacket, duty li- ht waistcoat, turkey red handkerchief, black billycock hat, iind lace- up boots : lias a very clumsy appearance : he givn the iv me of JOHN SMITH, but refuses to give any address. Description of licence- holder No. 3367, JOHN THOMAS, ali. s ELLIOTT, who has filled to report himself to the town ot Aherystviith Police, as required by the Penal Servitude Act, 1SC- 1: he is 35 years of age, 5 teet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, large burn mark on back :; ad nnder light arm. He was sentenced to four years' penal servitude at the Shrewsbury Quarter Sessions, 14th October, 1862, for larceny and previous convictions. D. ecrip.- ion of HORACE BUSS, who is charged with si . hnir a copper Furnace, which has since been recovered : ahout 30 years of age, o feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com plexion, .' aik brown ha: r long behind, and beard ; dressed in a suit of black cloth, and low- crown hat ; he is a blacksmith by trade, and was last heard of at Croydon, Surrey. Informa- tion to lie given to Deputy Chief Constable Thompson, Court House, battle, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bou>- strcet, June 4. Description of licence- holders who have failed to report themselves at Metropolitan Police Stations, as required by the • Penal Servitude Act, 1864' : HENRY SMITH, No. 3583, 34 years of age, 4 feet 6f inches high, fiesh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, marked with anchors and ' U. L.,' and much deformed on back. Was sen- tenced to four years penal servitude at Kingston- upon- Hull for larceny ; his sentence will expire on the 30th December, 1866. FREDERICK ADAMS, No. 6889, 21 years of age, 5 feet inches high, lair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on left side of tnce, and two moles on spine. Was sentenced to three years' penal servitude at Middlesex Sessions for larceny ; his sentence wiil expire on the 6th July, 186C. These licence- holders cannot be found at the addresses given by them, and they are to be apprehended by any Constable, if seen, at any time prior to date of expiration of sentence, and the fact rep rt d immediately to the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, 4, Whitehall- place, London, S.
