HI Otic e.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, amY « the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor Cltist lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Between the hours of 6' 40 p. m. and 8- 45 p. m. on the evening of the 13th instant : SARAH MELVIN, a little girl, 5 years of age, was murdered by some person or persons un- known, on the road leading between Carrs Hill and the Felling, in the borough of Gateshead, in the county of Durham. Her Body was found lying by the side of the foot- path, with a cord round her neck, and her hands tied together, she had also been violated. Information to be given to Chief Constable Elliott, Town Hall, Gateshead.— Bow- st., April 10. Further information respecting the murder committed at Dudlick Mill, near Stottesdon, on the 14th of January last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th of the same month. A reward of £ 100 is offered by Mr. John Meredith, of Dudlick, in lieu of the reward of .£ 20 offered by him and the £' ZO offered by Mr. James Meredith, and a further reward of .£ 100 will be paid by the Government to any person or persons who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Right Honourable Sir George Grey, Bart., Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer. Information to be given to Chief Constable Edgell, Shrewsbury, or to Super- intendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, April 16. The body of a newly born female Child having been found murdered in the river s. t Llangefni, in the county of Anglesey, on the morning of the 11th ultimo, in addition to £ 20 offered bv the local authorities, a further sum of £ 60 will be paid by the Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders, and Sir George Grey, Her Majesty's Secretary of State, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give . such information and evidence as Bliall lead to the same resuAb ' Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Menai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bow- street, April 16. During the day time on the 30th ultimo Janet Hender- son or Rogers, was murdered, in the kitchen of the farm- house of Mount Stewart, in the parish of Forgandenny, and county of Perth, by some person or persons at present un- known. A reward of £ 100 is hereby offered by Government, to any person who shall forthwith give such information to the Procurator Fiscal of Perthshire, or to the Chief Constable of County Police at Perth, as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers.— Bow- street, April 13. voice, and of a nervous habit ; dresses respectably in dark clothes, and wears his hat on one side ; speaks Fiencli fluently. Absconded, THOMAS SCHNEIDER STUBBINGS, late of the parish of Biddestone, Wilts, farmer, charged with forgery : 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, tair com- plexion, fresh and rather lull face, broad and stout made, rather light hair and whiskers; likely to be dressed as a farmer. Information to be given to Head Constable Hughes, Central Police Office, Bath, Somersetshire.— Bow- st., April 10. FORGERY Absconded since the 9 h instant, charged with forging a : d uttering a Bill of Exchange for £ 125, with intent to defraud the Agra and Mustei min's Bank, Nicholas- lane, Lombard street, EDWARD LAWRENCE LEVY, late of No. 2, Bow- street, Covent- garden, and No. 44, Burton- crescent, solicitor, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, thin lace, very pale complexion, light moustache and • whiskers inclined to sandy, stiff shuffling walk, and carries hiB right shoulder higher than the left. Description of HERBERT LEFFLER, charged on a warrant with forgery : about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thick set, florid complexion ( as if he drank), long hook nose, dark hair, rather long dark whiskers, has a soft effiminate ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON . , , Stolen from the person of a female, on the evening of the 20th instant, at Henley- in- Arden, a 1' ortemonuaie, with steel clasps, on one Bide three pockets, one worn at the bottom, one of which contained about £ 20 in Sovereigns and Half sovereigns, on the other side a pocket containing an American gold Dollar, a Lottery Ticket for a Shakesperian Table, a Receipt from the bank for £ 20, and some Receipt and Postage Stamps. Infor mation to be given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire.— Baa- street, April 23. Stolen frcm the person of James Stubbs, on the 18th instant, at Stifford's Bridge, in the parish of Cradley, a large calico bag Purse, with two compartments in it, and contained 4 Sovereigns and 12s. 6d. in Silver. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches hig'i, stout m ike, fresh complexion, light eyes, light brown hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in a seal skin overcoat, dark blue Scotch tweed trousers, ditto waistcoat, buttons up to the throat and has no collar, low crowned napless hat, light boots, and has the appearance of an ostler. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Harewood, Bromyard, or to Sergeant Traylor, Cradley, near Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 23. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the Cheltenham race course, on the 13th instant, a large open face gold English Lever Watch, ' M. F.' engraved on the outside case, maker Howlett, Cheltenham. £ 3 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion of the offender and recovery of the watch. Stolen from the person, at the Volunteer Review, Brighton, on the 2nd instant, a silver hunting Watch, makers Davey & Sous, Lewes, No. 43931. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent W. Waghom, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen on the 20th ultimo, from the person of Robert Hughes, at Wigan, a gold skeleton lever Watch, with stop, chronometer balance, centre seconds, and white dial sunk in the centre, maker Thomas Milner, Wigan, No. 1054, the number is also on the inside of outer case, winds up and sets hands on the back, back of case is smooth and engraved with shield and garter. A reward of £ 7 will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the reccvery of the watch, and £ 3 for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the Volunteer Review, Brighton, on the 2nd inBtant. a gold J- lever Watch, maker Molyneaux, Lombard- street, No. 16079. Information to be given to Superintendent Drew, Hants Constabulary, Fareham.— Bow- street, April 11. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. At about 6 p m. on the 16th instant, the Priory Lodge, in th9 parish of Burnham, was entered by breaking a pane of Glass during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen thtrefrom : three old Pocket Handkerchiefs, marked ' Hanah ' in red cotton ; 1 yard Muslin- de- laine, new, blue ground with white stripe ; a silver plated Brooch, shape a true- lover's knot ; a ditto ditto, four horse shoes ; two jet ditto, one with mosaic stone ( two of the brooches are without pins) ; a pair of black velvet Bracelets, with a plated star on the back. Three men of the following description were seen coming from the lodge at that time, and had been begging in the town : one is about 40 years of age, and dressed in a blue guernsey and billycock hat ; another is about 30 years of age, and dressed in a tweed coat, light trousers, and cap; the other is about 20 years of age, rather tall, and dressed in a slop, corduroy trousers, and cap. They were traced to Slough. Information to be given to Sergeant Moore, Bucks Constabu- lary, Burnham, near Maidenhead,— Bow- street, April 23. Stolen, by means of househreakng, on the 17th instant, from the cottage of Elizabeth Howells, at Winington, Salop, a pair of light blue woollen Stockings, newly footed ; three or four Three- penny Pieces, the same number of Four- penny Pieces, and 3d. in Copper, with holes and letter on them ; a plain silver Ring made from a shilling; an old crimson silk net Purse ; and a small quantity of Bread and Cheese. Sup posed by a tramp, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches liigh, brown hair ( inclined to sandy) and whiskers ; dressed in a grey jacket, corduroy trousers, and low- crowned hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Shrewsbury, or to Police Constable ( No. 7) R. Dovey, Ivy End, Shrewsbury.— Bote- street, April 28, Early on the morning of the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. Robert Gibson, of Bolton- le- Smdi, was broken and entered by means of breaking two squares of glass and opening the fastenings of the dining room window, and stealing therefrom the following property: a £ 5 Bank of England Note, a £ 5 Note of the Luncaster Bsnk, £ 34 in Gold, and about £ 112a. in Silver, a white cornelian Seal mounted in gold with three storks, a small gold Seal with single stork, a small gold Seal with ' L'Aniitie' on it, a Bmall inferior gold Seal with squirrel, a Bilver clasp Fruit Knife with mother- o- pearl handle, an old silver Snuff Box with pebble top, an Indian Rupee, a Penknife with two blades and mother- o'- pearl handle, and a buckhorn handle Knife with two blades, pen blade broken. A man of the following description is sus- pected : about 2C years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark , hair, Bmall moustache which may be shaven, the forefinger ( supposed left) off nearly to the second joint, speaks aa if he was a nativd of Lancashire; dressed in a rather sliabbb blue cloth coat, brown cloth trousers, far worn; had with him a rug bound with black, blue one side, brown the other. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of the property recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Clegg, Skerton, near Lancaster.— Boiestreet, April 23. During the night of the 21st instant, a farm house at Meifod, near Welshpool, was broken into, and the following property stolen : an old brown velvet Jacket, two dark pearl buttons at top of breast; an old dark mixture cloth Jacket, the cuffs torn off; a pair of lace- up Boots, nearly new, large size, the inside of lace holes lined with red leather, the heels neatly nailed with squares, no nails in soles; a pair of blucher Boots, lately soled, three brass lace holes on each side, the heels nailed with square nails, the soles with sprigs; a large ham of Bacon, G lbs of flitch of Bacon, eleven J lbs. of Dutter, a Loaf of Bread, and 3 lbs. of Cheese. Supposed by tramps. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- streU, April 23. Between 1 and 7 a. m. on the 10th instant the house of J. C. Mouosey, Esq., No. 20, Cobham- terracc, Swanscombe, Kent, was broken and entered, and a pa'r of silver Sugar Tongs, marked on top ' J. C. E. M.'; a glass crucifix Scent Bottle with gold top; Bnd a Meerschaum Pipe in case with piece of silver in centre of stem, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Kent Constabulary, Dartfurd.— Bow- street, April 20. About 1 am. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Robert Willi ims, of Llong, near Mold, was broken aud entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : apiirof woollen cord Trousers, patched at the bottoms, lined with calico, much worn ; a pair of dark cotton cord Trousers, patched on the knees, lined with white flannel, in the pocket was a padlock Key and a Shilling ; a pair of common Braces with leather straps ; a pair of white flannel Drawers ; a pair of Wellington Boots, lately soled, square patch on the upper of right boot; and a pair of women's elastic- side Boots, neatly new. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Mold, Flint- shire.— Bou>- street, April 20. On the afternoon of the 16th instant, the dwelling- house of David Lewis, Llanerfyl, Montgomeryshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a light mixture cloth Over Coat, two pocketB on hipp, an outside breast pocket, much worn; a pair of cotton eoid Trou< ers, nearly new ; a silk Handkerchief, a little faded; a white and blue Scarf; and a pair of men's lace- up watertight Boots, nearly new, very strongly nailed, two rows of square tacks all round the fore parts as well as the heels. Two tramps are suspected, from 20 to 20 years of age, and dressed in dark brown clothes, who pretend to be sailors. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Williams, Llanerfyl, Montgomeryshire.— Box- streot, April 20. Between the hours of 1? and 1 p. m. on the 10th instant, the cottage of William Goring, labourer, Fetcham, Surrey, was broken into, and a pair of men's black cloth Trousers, lined with unbleached calico; a brown cotton pocket Handkerchief; and Is. 4d. In Money stolen therefrom : a man about 25 years of age, dressed in dark clothes and cap is suspected. Information to be given to Superintended Page, Suriey Constabulary, Dorking, or at the Police Station, Leatherhead.— Bow- street, April 18. Between 1 and 3 a. m. on the 17th instant the house of Mr. W. T. Rothwell, of Foxholes, Ellel, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: a large gold Seal, with Arabic characters engraved upon it; two gold Seals on a ring, one of them plain, the other has engraved upon it' Amity,' with two doves drinking out of a fountain; a Microscope, by Newton, of London; a gold Scent Bottle, holden with cameos on the side, oval shape, with claws on the base of same ; a Kanjar or curved Persian Dagger, with ivory handle, the ' Scliah of Persia1 carved on each side; and a black Siieath. Information to be given to Superintendent Clegg, Skerton, near Lancaster.— Bow- street, April 18. Description of a man suspected of breaking into a house on the Kingcoed, on the night of the loth instant, and stealing therefrom £ 2 10s. in Gold, 10s. in Silver, and some Copper Money: 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, rathei stout made, fair complexion, light brown hair ( short behind) and whiskers, brown eyes, slanting cut mark across right cheek, blue mark round one finger of right band, small hands; dressed in a large sbeved waistcoat with flowered plush front, cord trousers with leather at the bottom of each leg, white shirt with band round the neck, coloured muffler, hilly- cock hat, navvy boots, the left boot has a large tongue folding over the front which is slit in several pieces at the end, seven rows of round headed nails in soles, two rows outside and three in the centre, the centre rows reach neater the toe than the others, square heads in the heel, the other boot has a piece cut out of the uppers; he carries a frail basket and goes about the country mending umbiellas and windows. During the night of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of George Hargr- aves, Esq., at Leyland, was enteied, and the following property stolen therefrom: an Opera Gla< s, ebony mounted with brass ; a Medal- opening of the Art Treasures Exhibition, Manchester, by Prince Albert, 6th May, 1857. Entrance was effected through a window on the ground floor. Information to be given to Superintendent Beetiiam, County Conitabulary Officc, Chorley.— Bow- street, April 18. On the night of the 13th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Ilayne, of Fordington, Dorchester, was broken and entered, and tbe following property stolen therefrom : eigiit silver Dessert Spoons, a silver Gravy Spoon, three silver Egg Spoons, all marked ' J. H.'; eight silver Table Spoons; two silver Butter Boats, crest— a horse's head; two silver Saivers, one with crest— a horse's ilea' 1; a silver Teapot; and a pair i f patent leather Slippers, elastic sides. Supposed by a man about 5 feet 4 or D inches high, lost one eye ; diessed in a light- coloured coat, doth cap, light leggings; he huys and hawks poultry and is accompanied by a man who cleans hats. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the offender or offenders ucd the lecovery of the property, or a portion thereof, shall receive £ 20 leward, on application to Superintendent Pouncy, Borough Police, Dor- chester, Dorset.— Bow- sli eel, April 18. Between 930 p. m. on the 12th and 3 a. m. on the 13th instant, tbe dwelling- house and shop of T. and W. Hayhurst, provision dealers, Stoop- lane, Bo! fon- by- Bovvland, was entered by the d. or or ihop window which was left open, and £ 30 in Gold aud £ 10 in Silver stolen therefrom. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Cockshott, West Ridlug Constabulary, Srttle, or Inspector Merrick, Bolton- by- Bowland, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 16. During the night of the 13th instant, a s;: le room belong- ing to tbe Victoria Market, Oldham, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom ; 69 pairs of black cloth Trousers, tbe falls of which are - variously lined with black cotton and linen, several havs raised seams; 16 black cloth Vests, nun's size, new, some li. ed with yellow, others with slate coloured cotton, several are marked ' 10' near the right shoulder, others marked ' 6,' in red raddle; 6 pairs of boy's dark blue ribbed cloth Trousers, some of which are lined round the tops with yell w citton, others with purple and white check cotton ; 6 cashiueie Shawls, grey centres variously checked with r< d and white, smi crimson ; 1 Bod Tick ; and a tin Cash Box, about 8 inches Joiig, brass handle, containing a few broken gold Kings, and an Auctioneer's Licence granted to ' William Kynan.' A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of tbe property, or in proportion to the value of property recovered. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Jimes Wetherell, Town Hall, Oldham.— Bow- street, April 16. Between 10 p. m. on the 12th and 6 a. m. on the 13th instant tbe dwelling- house of Mrs. Harding, Peny- clawdd, near Monmouth, was broken aud entered, and a tin Teapot stolen therefrom. Two men Of the following description are suspected : one, about 35 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout made, fair complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers meeting under chin ; dressed in a rather long drab or moleskin coat, cord trousers, and strong boots, nearly new, with seven rows of square headed nails in soles, tips on heels, and billycock hat: tbe other, ab ut 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionate made, fair complexion, sandy hair aud whiskers; dnssed in velveteen coat with pockets, broad cord trousers and leggings, jimcrow hat, and clogs with a piece of iron round the soles mid three rows of nails ( sot very regular). During the night of the llth instant, the saddle room of Mr. William Osborne, of Griffins Hill, Northfield, was broken and enteied, and the following property stolen therefrom : a blgck Overcoat, a black Vest bound witli braid, a black cloth Overcoat with outside pockets, a black cloth Coat bound A- iih braid, a grey Coat, Vest, and Trousers, a pair of black cloth Trousers, a pair of black woollen cord ditto, a blue plaid flannel Shirt, a light ditto a red ditto, a calico ditto, a blue Necktie, a blaok low- crowned Hat, a gold Scarf Pin with marble stone, a frail Basket, and a Bundle Handkerchief, the property of the servants. A tramp is suspected, as some dirty old clothes were left behind, It is supposed that the offender is making his way for Gloucester and Bristol. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, Rings Ileath, near Birming- ham.— Cow street, April 13. Early on the morning of the 7th instant the co operative stoie shop at ltyhope Colliery was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : 10s. in copper Money ; 20 lbs. of red Cheshire Cheese ; 12 lbs. of Tobacco in aud 2 oz. packets; two pairs of Balmoral Boots, laced in front; four pairs of elastic- side Boots, one pair larger than the other, all men's size; four pairs of strong- made laced Boots, small size; one dozen chenille Hair Nets ; five dozen cotton ditto ; seven woollen checked Shirts, men's size ; a pair of Pit Shoes, strongly nailed in the soles, one burnt at toe; 20 yards of fancy checked Flannel; twelve pairs of women's Gloves with white wool coloured tops; and a checked woollen Muffler. Information to be given to Superintendent Jobson, Houghton- le Spring, or to Sergeant Harrison, Ryhope, near Sunderland, Durham— Bow- stnet, April 13. On the night of the 6th instant the warehouse and shop of Mr. James Whitfield, ironmonger, Market- place, in the borough of Wigan, was feloniously entered by taking a glass slab out of the roof, and the following articles stolen : a small Opera Glass, finished in dark- coloured leather or gilt, scratch- marked ;' a Telescope, in lignum vi'tc wood, about 10 inches long, the large glass cracked across, scratch- marked ' D/ g' or' N/ g;' a Mnill ditto, scratch- marked ' T/' or ' Z/ c ;' two or three silver Fruit Knives, scratch- marked ' Z/' or ' g/ ;' a German silver ditto, 6cratch- uiarked ' NE ;' eleven plated Wedding Rings; Is. Gd. in Silver and Is. 6d. in Copper; it is suspected that a number of Penknives were taken, A reward of £ 1 will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. On the same night the storehouse and shop of Mr. Michael Leyland, ironmonger, were entered by sliding a window in the roof ( which is on a level with Mr. Whitfield's roof), and the following articles stolen therefrom : a pair of electro- plated Fish Carvers, in case ; a Pocket Knife with six blades ; and about 10s. in Copper. £ 1 reward will be paid by Mr. Leyland for the appreheuaiou and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simra, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- sireet, April 11. HORSE AST © CATTLE STEALING. Found at Eist Ilsley, ou the 18th instant, und supposed to have been stolen . a South Down Wether Teg Sheep, marked with a red dot on the near hip. Information to be given to Superintendent O ' Neil!, Berks Constabulary Station, Wantage. — Bum- street, April 23.
