The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, xoith every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- poee of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person acquiring or lending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BUKNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it Is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence chargod, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested tlmt the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia,' as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion iu tho POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. ' i INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON The persons advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th instant, for larceny from the person of Charles Lapper, have been apprehended, with the Crimean Medal in their possession, and ( remanded to the 25th instant: they gave the names of JOHN and SUSANNAH ROYLEY, of Waterford, and WILLIAM and SARAH REED, of West Bromwich. They are ^ supposed to have committed offences elsewhere, and to have been previously convicted of felony. Information to be given to Superintendent Leys, Northleach, or to Sergeant Stuart, Stow- on- the- Wold, Gloucestershire.— How- St., May 22. Stolen on the 16th instant, from a female, in the 4 Harper's Arms' public- house, Theobald's- road, Bloomsbury, a leather Purse containing lis. 6d. in Gold and Silver. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair completion aud hair ; dressed in cord trousers and heavy boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 19. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Chester Races, on the 10th inst: a gold lever Watoh, gold dial, engine- turned case worn smooth at bottom, gold hands, No. 13281 A liberal reward will be paid on its recovery, and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Chief Constable George L. Fenwick, Chester,— Bow- street, May 17. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11* 30 p. m. on the 17th and 2 a. m. on the 18th instant, Brookfield- cottage, Withington, Lancashire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: three calico Sheets; a man's white flannel Shirt; a boy's blue flannel ditto; a man's white calico ditto, two plaits in front; four brown holland Pinafores; a diaper ditto, needlework round the sleeves, marked ' Agnew' in ink ; a girl's brown holland Apron with a body ; two women's calico Chemises ; a child's flannel Petticoat; a white calico Neckerchief; two pairs of cotton Stockings; a child's calico Shirt, needlework on the Sleeves ; a linen Pillow- slip ; a blue and white flowered Table- cover ; a canvas Apron; a pair of girl's calico Drawers; a pair of boy's Blucher Boots, three holes in each side ; and a fair of elastic- side Boots— all part worn; n breach- loading ' istol; 1 lb. of Candles; and a Cigar- box containing two dozen of Eggs. Information to be given to the Superintendent of County Police, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- st., May 22. Further particulars respecting the burglary at Sulhamp- stead Abbotts, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant. Two men, of the following description, are suspected : THOMAS BOYDE, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, rather thin figure, cut mark over right eye ; dressed in a long black coat, corduroy trousers, brown billycock hat, black silk scarf with a pin with blue and white stone in middle, and boots with elastic sides. JOHN KING, 23 or 24 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, pockpitted, light blue eyes, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, stout; dressed in black coat, dark trousers, black cap with leather peak, blue and white silk necktie, and lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes. They are supposed to be in company with a womah called Lucy, 35 to 40 years of age, Tather tall, long black hair, rather stout; dressed in a coloured print gown, coloured paisley shawl, straw bonnet with wide green and blue ribbons tied in a bow. They are supposed to attend fairs, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Crook, Reading, who holds warrants tor their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 22. During the night of the 11th instant, the cottage of John Slocombe, at Holcombe Rogus, was broken and entered, and bore was stolen ; 1 pair of shepherd's plaid Trousers $ 1 pair of lace- up Boots, brass holes; 2 pairs of white cotton Stockings; 1 pair of Spectacles; 1 pair of Scissors ; 2 Knives and Forks; .1 figured plush Waistcoat; 1 black cloth Cap ; and 1 Umbrella. Information to be given to Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary,' Cullompton.—. Boio- sfraJ, May 19 Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a house at Weston- super- Mare, between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 14th instant: 1 silver Consular lever Watch, open faced, maker J. Williams, Bristol, No, 3675. 1 silver Geneva Watch. 1 black cloth Coat, with pockets outside, and black velvet collar. 6 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' E. L.' 1 gold signet Ring, containing hair, engraved inside • Emery, 1829.' I white pearl Ring. Supposed by two men of the following description : one, about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in a black cloth coat, light trousers, and high black hat. The other, about 5 feet 2 inches high, swallow complexion, and no whiskers ; dressed in a black coat, light trousers, and light soft hat with stiff brim. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Axbridge, or to the Sergeant of Police, Weston- super- Mare.— Bow- street, May 19. Between 1 and 6 a. m. on the 14th instant, the dwelling house of Dr. Sherman, Moorgate, Rotherham, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : 1 black velvet Mantle, without sleeves, trimmed with dark fur and black lace. 1 Bachelor of Arts Robe, trimmed with puce velvet. 1 stone- coloured silk Dress, trimmed with black lace, and has loose sleeves. 1 black ribbed silk Dress, with white lining, and has long flowing sleeves. 1 mauve silk Dress, trimmed with black velvet. 1 large black lace Shawl. 2 silver Castor Tops. 1 plain silver Tea Spoons, ax marked.' S.,' and one ' S. B.' 2 linen Aprons, marked • J. H.' 1 dark green silk Dress, trimmed with black silk. 2 silver Decanter Labels. The clothes are all of a large size. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 17. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 20th instant, from a meadow in the parish of Baylham, a dark chesnut Mare, 14£ hands high, 4 or 5 years old, white down face, three or four white legs, nearly thoroughbred, has good action and fast. Information to be given to Superintendent C. Nagle, County Constabulary Office, Ipswich, or to Police Constable John Baker, Police Station, Needham Market, East Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen, about the 14th instant, from a field near the Railway Station at March, 2 Ewe Sheep, the property of Mr. Thomas T. Elliott. Information to be given to Superintendent Lees, March, Cambridgeshire. — Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen from Glanymorfa Farm, near Lowyn, Merioneth, on the night of the 14th instant, a bay gelding Pony, 3 years old, legs rather dark at the fetlocks, long tail, point cut square, has a wart inside near hind leg, and is in middling condition. Some Irish tinkers who were in the neighbourhood at the time are suspected ; they had with them a small cart, and went into Montgomeryshire. Information to be given to Police Sergeant Thomas Roberts, Aberdovey, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, May 22. The bay Filly supposed to have been stolen at Coleblow, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 1st instant, has been reco\ ered.— Bow- street, May 22. The pony supposed to have been stolen from Thurgaton, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant, has been recovered.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen on the 13th instant, from a field at Banstead, a light brown Pony, 14 hands high, black mane, rat tail, white streak down face, hind heels white, legs clipped, wart on near hind leg, in good condition, had on a head stall.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen on the evening of the 16tli instant from some waste land in Aberdeen- street, Winson- green, Birmingham, a dark brown mare Pony, from 12 to 13 hands high, has a small slit in the top of left ear, and white cut mark on left thigh. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Moor- street, Birmingham.— Bow- st., May 22. The mare stolen from Hambleton, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th instant, has been found, but the man is still at large.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen from Oswestry, on the 29th ultimo, a dark brown mare Pony, about 14 hands high, wart on lett fore leg above the knee, right hind leg stiff. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.-., Bow- street, May 22, Stolen on the night of the 18th instant, from a field in the parish of Threckingham, Lincolnshire, a brown mare Pony, 5 years old, about 14 hands high, black legs, short thick neck, light coloured nose, saddle mark on back, small lump on off fore foot just above the hoof, white star on forehead, in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Pearman, Police Station, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen off the road near Machynlleth, on the 16th instant ( fair day), a black 2- year old Bullock, white face aud black spots with red streaks on the back. Supposed by four men, who drove from forty to fifty cattle from the fair in the direction of Newtown or Welshpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Thomas Thomas, Machynlleth, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen from a, field at Yarley, Wookey, near Wells, during the night of the 13th instant, a dark bay Mare, about 15 hands high, 4 years old, with some white hairs on the withers caused by the collar, saddle marked, and has an enlargement on the off hind fetlock joint, which is scarcely healed ; she is very quick in harness. A reward of £ 5 will be given for the recovery of the Mare, and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to the owners, or to W. G. Bloxham, Deputy Chief Constable, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Boug, Wells, Somerset.— Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen on the pight of the I2th instant, from a field at Church Hill, Handsworth, a dark iron- grey mare Pony, about 14 hands high, 4 years old, long mane and tail, the hair has been slightly rubbed off the shoulder, by the collar, and in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant John Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, May 19. On the night of the 8th instant, three tramps were seen in the village of Arthingworth, near Market Harborough, on which night a lamb was killed and another stolen, from the estatgjff the Hon. C. H. Cust, and at the same time a long drab fust 33 Coat, a long drab Smock Frock, a velvet drab Vest with fustian back and sleeves, a flag Basket, about 2 lbs. of Wool, some Horsehair, and a few pieces of window Lead, were also stolen from a small hovel on the estate. One of the three men has been apprehended, the other two are at large, and are in the habit of calling at Unions in the midland district for a nights lodging. They are of the following descriptions : WILLIAM KING, labourer, of Reading, about 34 years of age, stout built, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, full red freckled face, about 5 feet 7 inches high, marked D, and has been in the 73rd Foot; dressed in a drab coat and cap, lace- up clogs ; he generally has a quantity of pitch in his possession, which he uses for a complaint he is suffering from. JOHN KNIGHT, a labourer, from Draycott, near Derby, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4£ inches high, dark hair, with light or sandy whiskers, broad face, and high cheek bones ; dressed in a drab or light velvet vest with fustian sleeves and back, a dirty white slop under it, fustian trousers, lace- up boots, light cap with peak of same material, and has a case- knife in his possession. Whoever will apprehend these men, and give information to Inspector Tye, Little Bowden Police Station, Market Har- borough, who holds a warrant for their apprehension ; or at any Police Station in the County of Northampton, shall receive a reward of £ 5.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from the Middle Fen, Ely, Cambs, on the night of the 10th instant, a black mare Pony, 8 or 9 years old, 14 hands high, cut tail, with the off hind leg clipped and the near shoulder chafed; and a sun coloured Colt, 3 years old, 14 hands high, one of the heels white, and in good condition. Two men ( gipsies), of the following description are suspected : the taller one is supposed to be AMBROSE DRAPER, a returned con- vict, 24 years of age, 5 feet 10£ inches high, dark complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, Romau nose, top joint of middle finger on right hand contracted, and one of his little fingers recently injured by a kick from a horse ; dressed in a brown felt hat, long striped coat, close fitting trousers, and laoe- up boots ; the other is about 20 years of age, nearly 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly built, dark glossy curly hair, round features, and well made ; is known by the name of MALONEY, supposed to be fictitious ; dressed in a light cap, long light drab coat, close fitting trousers, and lace- up boots. They have been traced through Soham ( where they stole a light Cart and Harness), Newmarket, Chesterford, Bishop Stortford, and were last heard of at Hoddesdon, Herts, with the two horses and cart in their possession, at 6 p. m. on the 11th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent W. E. Lantsbury, Ely, or to Chief Constable Captain Foster, March, Cambs.— Bow- street, May 19. Supposed to have been stolen on the 13th instant, from the turnpike- road at Eye, a black mare Pony, 4 years old, star on forehead, about 12 hands high, blind on left eye, a punch hole through left ear, a bit cut out of right, All reasonable expenses will be paid by James Lockey on its recovery ; and if stolen, a handsome reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent T. Sykes, Leominster, Herefordshire*— Bow- street, May 19. Supposed to haYe been stolen from a field at Wensley, near Ley burn, about the 5 th instant, a half bred shearling Sheep, with cut mark on left ear. Lambs recently taken from her. Information to be given to Superintendent Walmsley, Constabulary Office, Leyburn, Bedale, North Riding of Yotk^ shire,— Bow- street, May 19, ' 2 POLICE GAZETTE. May 22. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of a man who is charged with stealing from the Post Office, Nether Stowey, on the 12th instant, a number of blank Money Orders, by which he obtained large sums of money from different offices in London: he is 35 years of age, about 5 feet 0 inchca high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, has something the matter with his eyes, long neck, and right side of face drawn up; dressed in n hlnck coat and vest, dark trousers, black silk hat worn a lkUe on one Bide, and a gold or imitation gold Albert chain. He is supposed to have been formerly in a post office, and was accompanied by a man of the following description at Bridgwater : 40 years of age, about 6 feet 0 inches high, light hair and eyes, rather full red face, stout build, large nose and mouth; dressed in a suit of light grey clothes and black hat without nap; Information to be 5iven to Superintendent William Mear, Williton, Somerset.— lou- street, May 22. Stolen on the 15th instant, from 24, Upper Fenton- street, St. George's East, a silver Geneva Watch, ' 37411' on works, a silver guard Chain attached. By a female 45 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in dark plaid gown, black straw bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, May 22. Absconded on the 16th instant, from King's Cross, em- bezzling £ 2, two men : one 25 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair: dressed in holland slop, cord trousers, anil cloth cap : the other 25 years of age, 5 ft. 4 ins. high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in brown holland slop, dark trousers, and hat.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, Mai/ 22. Stolen on the lGth instant, from No. 14, Grove- street, Camden Town £ 2 16s. By a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers shaved off; dressed in blue clotn Shooting coat, light vest and trousers, black hat, and balraoral boots.- Metropolitan Police, S Division, Mav 22. Absconder! on the 3rd instant, from the service of her master, Mr. Rhys T. Evans, tailor and draper, Ship- street, Brecon, MARGARET JAMES, about 26 years of age, black hair, ruddy complexion, teeth projecting, short stature, thick set, and country like appearance ; she is chained upon a war- rant with stealing two men's Shirts, two silk Scarfs, three silk Neckties, one silk Pocket Handkerchief, one pair of Socks, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Lee, Brecon, who holds the warrant.— Bow- strcct, May 22. Further information respecting the property stolen at Bittou, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant: the stolen Coat has been found pledged at Bristol, by a woman named ELLEN DAVIS, who has been committed for trial at the next Gloucester Sessions ; she is tall and thin, has dark hair and eyes, and is supposed to have been previously convicted. The stolen Waistcoat has not been found. Information to be given to Superintendent Box, Staple Hill, or to Sergeant Clark, Oldlund Common, near Bristol.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen oa the Mth instant, from No. 7, Vincent- square, Westminster, au engine- turned English verge Watch, makers S. Isaacs it Co., Portsea. By CHARLES FOX, a licence- holder, Register No. 1722, Office No. 1325, 25 years of age, 4 feet 11^ inches high, dark brown hair, hazel ejfcs ( the right one partly closed, scar on chest, back of head, and forehead ; dressod in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, Mav 10. Description of JOHN WILSON, and HARRIETT WILSON, his wife, who are charged on a warrant with steal- thg a pair of dressed Boot- tops, and the Bottom- leather ; two pairs of leather Boot- tops ; and two pairs of Lasts : the man Is a man's bootmaker, and a member of ' the Society' ; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair and com - plexion, pockpitted, of proportionate make, and has a smile on his facc When Bpeaking. His wife is a boot closer, a native of Wrexham, about 25 years of age, rather short, and simple looking. Information to be given to Superintendent Wm. Thomas, Mold, Flintshire, who liolds a warrant for their appre- hension.— Bow- street, May 19. Absconded from Waterside, Dalmellington, Ayrshire, on the 23rd ultimo, charged with theft : THOMPSON FINDLAY, a drawer or miner, between 35 atod 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, thin whiskers, fresh complexion, grey eyes, Btout figure, impediment in speech, soar on forehead, and several scratches on the face; Pressed in grey tweed trousers with red stripe, vest, loose jacket, brown cloth cap, light lacing shoes, shabbily dressed, but may be wearing black cloth trousers and frock coat, and a dress shirt, which are part of the stolen property ; Irish dialect. A warrant has been granted for his apprehension, Information to he given to Superintendent David Clarke, County Constabulary, Ayr .— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen on the 13th instant, from No. 8, Eversholt- street, Camden Town : 1 diamond Ring. 1 turquoise ditto. 1 white Petticoat. 1 red cloth ditto. 1 white Jacket. 1 Skirt. 2 Chemises. 4 Nightgowns. 4 pairs of Stockings. By a female, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, and dark hair; dressed in a brown stuff frock, and black and white shawl.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, Mxiy 10. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 30, Millbank- slreet, Westminster, embezzling about 10s. : a man, 22 years of uga, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, stoutly made ; dressed in dark blue coat, cord trousers, and grey cloth coat.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, May 10. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 2, Marshall- street, St. James's, stealing a double- case silver verge Watch and a pair of side- spring Boots, nearly new : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in dark blue morning coat, brown mixture vest and trousers, and Wellington boots.— Metropolitan Police, C Divi- sion, May 19. Stolon on the 16th instant, from No. 4, Richmond- buildings, Soho : a pair of side- spring Boots; 2 yards of light Angola ; two Clothes- brushes ; and a Sovereign. By a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache; dressed in brown overcoat, vest, trousers, and hat.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 10. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 2, West- place, Albert- street, Penton- place, Walworth, stealing a Sovereign, a female, 10 years of age, 5 feet high, dark hair, eyes, and com- plexion ; dressed in a dark skirt, green shawl, and black bonnet. — Metropolitan Police, P Division, May Description of a man who absconded Jfoin Quedgeley, near Gloucester, on the morning of the 15th instant, stealing between lis. and 12s. in Silver and Copper Money, a small white china Tea Cup with blue spot flower, and au old- fashioned verge German silver Watch, bull'stfbje glass, maker ' J. Simpson, London,' the mainspring is broken, attaches} to the watch is a German silver Guard, . and a common Key : he is 22 years of age and said he was a native of Bodenham, Herefordshire, short stature, dark complexion, sun burnt, no whiskers, small beard under the chiu, the nail of his right thumb is black from a bruise; dressed in a bsown coat bound with black braid, black trousers, black bowler hat, violet neck tie, red woollen shirt with black spots, a white one underneath, and Wellington boots ; speaks with the Welsh accent and has thb appearance of a sailoh Information to be given to Super- intendent Charles Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow street, May 17. Stolen on the 10th or 11th instant, at Kinross, a black coburg quilted Petticoat, about 6 inches of the top band wanting in front; a white flannel Petticoat with one tuck near the bottom ; a brown square- checked Apron ; and a linen Towel. By a woman, who had lodged in the house, 21 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, round face, stoutly made, two or three letters inside left aim, speaks the West of Scotland dialect; dressed with net on head, gre^ y polka, magenta shawl, striped magenta petticoat, and elastic side boots ; no gown. She was accompanied by a ttian of the following description: 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, thin face, slender make; dressed in eight- piece dark cloth cap with peak, brown coat, and dark tweed trousers. He says he is a printer and type- founder, speaks the Glasgow dialect, and has been seen in that city by a druggist now in Kinross. Informal ion to lie given to Superintendent Clark, Kinross.— Bow- strect, May 1- 7. They travel together to cattle markets, fairs, Src., endeavouring to Obtain money and other valuables from countrymen, by putting' counterfeit sovereigns and notes into a new purse, pretending to bet, & c.
