8 RETURNS RELATING TO THEOLOGICAL AND OTHER RETURN of the Rev William Gibson. Sir ... Belfast, 29 April 1862. I AM Professor of Christian Ethics in the Theological College, in connexion with the " General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. My salary is 2501, a year from the Government, together with students' fees. I hold no other appointment from which I receive emolument. On the 31st of March 1860, the following students were in attendance on the class under my care : James Cargin. William Beatty. . Tames Carson. John W. Wylie. Samuel Rock. William John Flack. Joseph Patterson. William Kirkpatrick Murphy. Vere White. William M'Cloy. Alexander Bell. William Hood M'Clel- land. John M'Kane. Samuel Arrott Bellis. Robert Donnell. Samuel Paul. John Orr. William John M'Cracken. Robert F. Stewart. Robert Kennedy. William Wright. John Aiken. Samuel Irvine. Thomas R. White. On the 31st March 1861 the following were in attendance: Robert Johnston Smith. Silas E. Wilson. William M'Cloy. Henry William Burns. William Gardner. Andrew Burrows. James Gamble. William Tait Gibson. John Henry Beare. John Cairns. David M'Kee. William Ross Hamilton. James Birkmyre. James Young M'Clelland. William Warner. All the students above mentioned attended during the entire Collegiate Session, which commences in the first week of November, and terminates in the end of April. The hours of attendance in the class of Christian Ethics are from one to two o'clock on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in each week. Sir Thomas Larcom, Under Secretary for Ireland. THE Clerk of the Remonstrant Synod being an annual officer, it may save you the trouble of referring to documents to state that, during the period included in the Return, the Rev. D., Professor of Pastoral Theology, Metaphysics, Moral Philosophy, and Ecclesiastical History. 1. My students were five, named— Robert Clelland. William George Aston. John Berryhill. James M'Ninch. Alexander M'Giffen. 2. All were designed for the ministry in Ireland, and attended during the whole session, which continued from the 10th of November until the 1st of May, two weeks having been allowed for vacation at Christmas and a few days at Easter. 3. There was tuition on every day of the week, except Sunday, always occupying at least an hour, frequently considerably more than one hour, and occasionally two hours. £. s. d. 4. Salary received from Government for each professorship, 501, in all 150 - - Regium Donum, for congregation - - - - - - 92 62 Congregational income - - - - - - - - 134 172 For distribution of Regium Donum ------ 230 - - From the preceding sums income tax was deducted under different schedules; besides the necessary expenses connected with the quarterly payment of royal bounty.
