'• 254 ELECTORS REGISTERED, AND VOTERS POLLED householders ( the only other qualification in our borough); but I should suppose, from going over the list, that about 650 of the freemen will also be entitled as 10 /. householders to vote for Members of Parliament. It is impossible to form any idea how many of the freemen are also municipal electors ; the mere comparison of the registers, by a person unacquainted with the parties them- selves, affords no data for a guess even, and no person possessing such a general knowledge of the parties exists. The number of municipal electors on the register of municipal electors for 1836 is, as far as I can guess, about 2,400; for the total number of names is 2,935, of which I con- ceive about 535 will be double or treble qualifications in different districts of the borough, according to the best judgment I can form from similarity of names, I being, in many instances, unacquainted with the parties. We had no municipal register made in 1837, from want of revising assessors to act in the revision. Not even a guess can be made by any one as to the number of municipal electors who are also Parliamentary electors, much less can they distinguish how many are freemen. Thomas Thompson, Town Clerk.
