The overseers have neglected to make me any return of the persons entitled to be on the burgess roll, and qualified to vote in the election of municipal officers. 1 am therefore unable to furnish you with all your requisitions, as the assessors have never revised any lists, in consequence of the neglect of the overseers. The total number of freemen registered for this borough I have mentioned in the letter written at the request of the mayor; 41 of which are entitled to vote in the election of a Member of Parliament by virtue of their qualification as 101, householders. 16 December 1837.
