172] ELECTORS REGISTERED, AND VOTERS POLLED, KILMARNOCK. Number of Electors Registered. As the poll- books are in the custody of the sheriff of the county we have it not in our power to make a return of the number of electors who polled at the late general election. Although this is the returning burgh for the district to which it belongs, viz. Renfrew, Rutherglen, Dumbarton, Port Glasgow, and Kilmarnock, we have never been furnished by the clerks of the other burghs, since the first registration in 1832, with the necessary lists to enable us to make up a combined register of the voters in the whole burghs. 12 December 1837. Douglas & Hamilton, Town Clerks. AYR. The sheriff clerk of Ayrshire has not the requisite materials to enable him to make out a return of the number of electors who actually polled at the late general election. The poll- books in his possession merely contain the name, and not the qualification of the voter, which last only appears from the register in the custody of each respective town- clerk of the several burghs; so that the return cannot be made out unless the person doing so has both the register and the poll- books. The sheriff clerk, however, subjoins a note of the number of persons who polled : Renfrew - -- -- -- - 75 Rutherglen - - - 133 Dumbarton - - - - - - - - 136 Kilmarnock ------- - 475 Port Glasgow 128 Total - - - 947 2 Febiuary 1838. Gilbert M'Nab, Sheriff Clerk. KIRKALDY, DYSART, KINGHORN, AND BURNTISLAND. Number of Electors Registered. There was no polling for said burghs at last election. 11 December 1837. John Drysdale, Town Clerk.
