time, exclusive of those registered in former years. I cannot give a return of the number of electors who actually polled here at last general election. The town- clerk is not necessarily poll- clerk, and although I acted as poll- clerk, the poll- books were, on the close of the poll, transmitted to the sheriff at the returning burgh, Inverness, without any record of results being kept here. 20 April 1838.
