c ON THE LOCAL TAXATION OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN. 309 same and the like customs, petty duties, liberties, franchises, immunities, quittances, pow- ers, authorities, privileges and jurisdictions, fairs and markets as the mayor, sheriffs, com- mons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, or any of them, before said judgment was made, had, held, used or enjoyed, or ought to have had held, used or enjoyed, by reason or pretence of any charters, letters patents and grants, in any wise heretofore made, confirmed or granted, or in whatsoever other legal manner, right, custom, use, prescription or title the same were heretofore legally had and used; to hold of us, our heirs and successors, by the rents and services thereout due and accustomed; saving always, out of this our charter, our grant and confirmation, and to us, our heirs and successors, excepting and reserving all title, rights, rents, services, customs, subsidies, excise, poundage, liberties and demands whatsoever, which We, before the returning of the said judgment, have had, held, occupied, used or enjoyed, or ought or might have held, occupied, enjoyed or used, within the said city of Dublin, the franchises and precincts thereof, and in or within the county of the said city of Dublin, otherwise than by reason of the discontinuation, forfeiture, or dissolution of the liberties or franchises aforesaid seized into our hands; saving, and out of this our pre- sent grant, excepting and reserving all and every jurisdiction of the Lord High Admiral of us, our heirs and successors, and all manner of privileges to the same belonging, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, and all manner of privileges to the same belonging, and by these prohibit any person or persons from the execution of all and every jurisdiction of the admiralty, by virtue, pretence, or under colour of this present grant, any thing in these presents to the contraiy notwithstanding; provided that these our letters patent shall not extend to giving or granting to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city, or to any of them, pension or annuity to them, or to any of them, granted by the late king Charles the Second, to be paid out of his Exchequer: And further, We will by the presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do give and grant to said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their successors, that the mayor, aldermen, and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part of them for the time being, shall and may, now and hereafter have power and authority to admit and make men free of the said city of Dublin, and of the several fraternities, companies and guilds within the said city and the franchises thereof, for the time being; provided said freemen and each of them take the corporal oath of freemen, and the other aforesaid oath, before the mayor of the said city of Dublin, for the time being, to which mayor, for us, our heirs and successors, We do by these presents, give and grant power to administer said oaths; provided always, and We do by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, from time to time and at all times hereafter, give, preserve full power and authority to our deputy general and other chief governor or governors of us, our heirs and successors, to remove and declare to be removed from their offices, the mayor, recorder, sheriffs, or any of the aldermen, bur- gesses and other officers of said city by these presents named and appointed, and here- after to be elected and appointed, at the will and pleasure of our deputy general or other chief governor or governors of us, our heirs and successors of our kingdom of Ireland, for the time being, by order of the privy council, of us, our heirs or successors of our king- dom of Ireland, by writing, under their hands respectively signified, and as often as our deputy general, or other chief governor or governors, of us, our heirs and successors, of their heirs and successors, of our said kingdom of Ireland, from time to time shall by any such order of our privy council of our said kingdom of Ireland, declare such mayor, recorder, sheriffs, or any of such aldermen, burgesses or other officers of said city, so re- moved from their respective offices ; that then and from thenceforth every such person or persons so amoved or declared to be amoved from their respective offices, shall really and without any further process be removed, and so as often as the case shall so happen, any thing the contrary thereof notwithstanding: And further, for us, our heirs and successors, We do assign and nominate Simon Carrick, John Moore, George Kennedy and Edward Rose, merchants, to be the modern coroners of the city and county of the city of Dublin, to continue in their offices during the pleasure of the mayor and the rest of the common coun- cil of said city, so that they and every of them be amoveable at the pleasure of the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part of them; and that each of them before he shall exercise the office of coroner, shall take his oath of well and faithfully executing that office in and by all things to the said office appertaining, and the other oaths of fealty in these presents mentioned, before the mayor of the said city, for the time being, to which mayor for the time being, We do, for us, our heirs and successors, give power to administer said oaths, as well to the said coroners in these presents named, as to all and every coroner and coroners to be hereafter elected : And further, for us, our heirs and successors, We do ordain and decree, that the said modern mayor, and every mayor hereafter to be elected within the said city, shall be amoveable for misconduct by the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city for the time being; and that the mo- dern sheriffs in these presents named, and the sheriffs hereafter to be elected within said city, and each of them shall be amoveable at the pleasure of the mayor and the rest of the com- mon council of the said city, and the major part of them for the time being; and that the modern sheriffs, and the sheriffs to be hereafter elected within said city or county of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, shall have such the same and the like jurisdic- tions, powers, authorities and pre- eminences as the sheriffs for the city and county of the citv of Dublin have at any time heretofore had used or enjoyed: And further, for us, our heirs and successors, We do appoint John Bermingham, merchant, to be the modern keeper or marshal of the prison of the said city of Dublin, commonly called 549- 4 K our
