Francis Worrald, Francis Rice, Samuel Walton, merchants, Thomas Gibbon, brazier,' Robert Payne, linen draper, Anthony Piercy, merchant, John Hackett, merchant, Isaac Holdroid, merchant, Theobald Butler, woollen draper, Henry Wilson, merchant, Thomas Quinn, apothecary, Thomas Sutton, gardener, William Ambrose, wine merchant, Earol Eastwood, brewer, Richard Hart, baker, Robert Strong, baker, Arthur Emerson, brewer, Thomas Nowlan, brazier, William Quinn, carver, Richard Noyce, wine merchant, Richard Locke, gentlemen, Christopher Palles, goldsmith, Thomas Howe, merchant, Oliver Nugent, goldsmith, Timothy Sullivan, wine merchant, William Stawell, ironmonger, John Byrne, cooper, Robert Bellew, apothecary, Henry Smith, merchant, Patrick Archbold, surgeon, and Edward Lloyd, merchant, to be the modern free burgesses of the said city, to continue in their said offices of burgesses of said city during their respective natural lives, unless in the mean time by reason of any provision in these presents expressed, or for any reasonable cause they or any of them be removed from that office, all whom We desire shall be amove- able for such reasonable cause, by the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part thereof: And further, for us, our heirs and successors, We do assign and nominate as the modern common council of the said city, the said modern mayor, modern aldermen, modern chamberlain, modern sheriffs and modern burgesses in these presents named, provided that each of the common council of the said city in these presents named, and who hereafter shall be themselves of the common council of the said city, shall take his corporal oath, well and faithfully to execute his office or place of com- mon councilman of the said city, before the mayor of said city for the time being, for us, our heirs and successors, We do give power to administer said oath : And farther, for us, our heirs and successors, We do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their successors, that the mayor, aldermen, and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin, and their successors for the time being, or the major part of them, from time to time for ever, the date of these presents shall and may have power and authority, yearly and every year on every second Friday after the feast of Easter, in our said city of Dublin, elect and nominate such person there and at the time of such their election to be mayor of said city, or to elect one of the aldermen of said city to be mayor thereof for one entire year after, in manner hereinafter by these pre- sents limited; and that every person as aforesaid, elected and nominated mayor of the said city of Dublin, shall at the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel next after such nomina- tion and election, come before the chief governor or governors of our united kingdom of Ireland for the time being, or before the chief baron of our kingdom of Ireland or in their absence, before the last preceding mayor his predecessor, and take as well the corporal oath following, viz. " I do hereby acknowledge, profess, " testify and declare, in my conscience before God and the world, that our sove- " reign Lord King James is lawful and rightful king of this his realm, and other his " Majesty's dominions and countries, and i will bear faith and true allegiance to his " Majesty, his heirs and successors, and him and them will defend to the utmost of my " power, against all conspirators and attempts whatsoever which shall be made against his " or their crown and dignity, and do my best endeavours to disclose and make known " unto his Majesty, his heirs and successors, or to the lord deputy or other chief go- " vernor and governors of this kingdom for the time being, all treasons and traitorous " conspiracies which I shall know or hear, to be intended against his Majesty, his heirs " and successors, or any of them; and I do now make this recognizance and acknow- " ledgement, heartily, willingly and truly, upon the true faith of a christian.— So help me God. " And I do also declare and believe, that it is not lawful upon any pretence whatsoever, " to take arms against the King, and that I do abhor that traitorous position, of taking " arms by his authority against his person, or against those that are commissioned by him. " So help me God," & c. as also his corporal oath of well, truly and faithfully executing the said office of mayor of the aforesaid city of Dublin, in and by all things concerning said office; to which chief governor or governors for the time being, and chief baron for the time being, and such last preceding mayor, by these presents We do give and grant power and authority to give and administer said oaths; and that after such oaths are so made, he can and may execute the office of mayor of the said city for one entire year, from thence next following, and from thence until another alderman of said city for the time being, be in due form elected and sworn into said office of mayor of said city, according to the ordinances in these expressed and declared: And further, We will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do grant to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, that if it shall happen that the mayor of the said city of Dublin shall within the year after he be elected and sworn into the office of mayor of said city, die or be removed from his office, either by death or by reason of any other vacancy of said office of mayor of said city, for the time being, that then and so often, it shall and may be lawful for the said aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin for the time being, to assemble themselves or the major part of them, within ten days next after such death, removal, decease or vacancy, in their common hall or any other covenant place within the said city of Dublin, and there elect and nominate another good and fit man out of the aldermen of said city, as and for mayor of said city of Dublin, in the place of him so deceased or removed from his office; and that every person so as aforesaid nominated and elected mayor of said city, before he can exercise
