ON THE LOCAL TAXATION OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN. PARISH OF ST. PETER. The Return of the Churchwardens of the Parish of St. Peter, Dublin. AN ACCOUNT showing the amount of Parish Cess, applotted in the Parish of St. Peter, situated partly in the city and partly in the county of Dublin, in the year 1822, together with the amount received of same, and the Sum outstanding when the Account closed at Easter 1823. Parish of St. Peter, in the city of Dublin: Parish cess, applotted in the year 1822, at the rate of ten- pence in the shilling of the valuation on the houses for minister's money ------ Collected of the above, to Easter 1823, when account' closed for £. s. d. the year - -- -- -- -- - 725 6 8| Arrears outstanding, about two- thirds of which is due on insolvent and unoccupied houses - - - - - - - 83109 £. 808 17 N. B.— The above part of the parish pays city of Dublin grand jury cess. Part of the Parish of St. Peter, in the county of Dublin : Parish cess, applotted in the year 1822, at the rate above- mentioned on houses, and at ten- pence per acre on lands ------ £. s. d. Greene,} Churchwardens- ST. PAUL'S PARISH. THE Churchwardens have no control over any tax, except the parish cess, which, for the year 1822, amounted, as per vestry book, to £. 303. 18. 10. The sum col- lected of same, to this day, is £. 167. 7. 11 with little chance of more, the parish is so wretchedly poor. The churchwardens are obliged, under the control of the grand jury, to applot according to their warrant, each Easter and Michaelmas, the sums fiated therein, viz. £. s. d. For Easter 1822 5og 15 1Q Michaelmas ------ 531 12 g £. 1,041 8 7 With a claim of £. 831. of uncollected arrears, due by the parish. The mo- ment the vestry clerk makes out the applotment book, it becomes under the sole control of the grand jury and the city treasurer for public money. We have omitted noticing a new law enforcing £. 5. for the Foundling Hospital with every deserted child found in each parish, which, though having paid £. 10. with two, we are unable to collect from the parish, who resist it; the Act being so worded, that even the magistrates cannot direct us how to proceed. 3d May 1823.
