Sir, Ballast Office, Dublin, 5 May 1823. IN compliance with the desire of his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant, as communicated in your letter of the 2d instant, and in conformity with the order of the Committee of the House of Commons, on Dublin Local Taxation, I have the honour to enclose two copies of an account stating the amount received from the inhabitants of the quays westward of Carlisle bridge, for the last year, ending ist February 1823. I have also the honour to enclose copy of a letter, dated l oth February 1802, addressed to this board by Alexander Marsden, Esq. secretary to the then Lord Lieutenant, with the reply of the corporation thereto, from which the committee requiring the account will perceive, that the trouble attendant upon the works then proposed, was not sought for by this corporation, but undertaken at the instance of Government, and the tax upon the in- 549, habitants
