ON PETITIONS RELATING TO LIMERICK TAXATION. 173 Resolved 8c ordered, that Capt. Wm Coates be ( on Mr. Mayor's desire) admitted to the freedom e of this citty, on special grace. Resolved and ordered, ( upon the petn of Edmund Pery, esq. to be admitted a member of this councell of this citty, in like manner as his predecessors, in light of S' Mary house, en- joyed such privilege as a mayor's peer), y' it be referred to the record' to considr of his demand & right 8c report. Ordered, that Mr. Mayor have the liberty of nominating 8c appointed ye comptroller of this citty, for this yeare. Ordered, yl John Hart, Burg5 on of the sheriffes of this citty the last yeare, be admitted 2c sworne a member of this councell. Lcertify the foregoing to be a trne copy of the original. Witness my hand, at Birmingham Tower, the 18th of June 1822. W. Betham, Dy Keeper. ( 30 AT a general assembly of the mayor, sheriffes & citizens of the citty of Limrick, held at the Tholstell or Guildhall thereof on the seacond Munday after the feast of St. Michael tharkangell, being the vijth of October 1672. Resolved 8c Ordered, That Francis Ld. Bp. of Limrick, Samuel Foxon, Edward Warr and John Bourne, aldermen, be elected and sworne justices of the peace for this ensuing yeare. Resolved 8c Ordered, That Daniell Hignet burg'be and he is hereby elected, nominated and chosen townclark of this citty for this ensuing yeare. I certify the above to be a true copy of the original. Witness my hand, at Bir- mingham Tower, the 18th of June 1822. W. Betham, Dy Keeper. ( 40 Munday Oct. 14, 1672. Francis, Ld Bp of Limrick. Standish Hartstrong, esq. Record'. Edward Warr, 1 Kidmen Barthol Garnet, / Her Coglan, Recr Chic: Keys, Thomas Marten, Hen: Salfield, Burgs. Jo: Syms, Antho Bartlett, Edwd Clark, John Bennet, Ro\ vld Bunting, Fr. Whittamore, Geo: Burke, Daniel Highnet, Jo : Hart, j Burgs. FORASMUCH as on complt made of the undue election of Mr. John Halpin to bee one Order for removing on the sheriffes of this citty, itt appears by report of Mr. Hignett the psent townsc ( upon Mr. Halpin from his viewing the pannell that was cald over at the last election of mayor & sheriffes of this ye office of Sher. & citty pursuant to a former order of this councell) that divers psons were therein inserted by making his election Geo. Roth, the then town dark, who have nether been admitted to the freedom of this citty, null, by, nor made out any right thereunto to, the mayor and councell who are the only psons capacitated to make freemen according to auncient usage & custome of ye sd citty time out of mind, nor have taken the oath of a freeman, wh persons ( although not sworne) being cald into the said pannell voted for the said Mr. Halpin to be one of the sheriffes of this citty, 8c thereby carryed the same only be one vote agc Mr. James Phillips, whose votes were all of freemen duly admitted 8c sworne, and the recorder having delivered his opinion that the election ( by such as have not been soe admitted 8c sworne free) is illegal. This councell doth ( nem contr) resolve the same accordingly, and therefore declare the election of the said John Halpin voyd, and ord9 that this resolve be represented to the gen1 assembly this p° sent day, 8c that the said Ja: Phillips regularly voted 8c elected seacond sheriffe be called 8c sworne sheriffe according to his due election, 8c the said John Halpin be sett aside 8c his elected disannulled. AT a generall assembly of the mayor, sheriffes 8c citizens of the citty of Limrick held at the Tholsell here the third Munday after the feast of St. Michael tharkangell, being the 34th day of October 1672. Resolved 8c Ordered, upon reading an ordr of this common councell of this citty this day Qen, j Assem(, ly. concerning the undue election of Mr. Jo : Halpin to the office of sheriffe in this citty that votjng jjai_ the same be rattified and confirmed 8c he removed from the same office, & y1 Mr. Ja. Phillips pjn> s election null, be required to und9go the oath 8c office, according to his due 8c regular election, 8c he is sworne accordingly. The petty customes of ingate 8c outgate at St. Johns gate w, k all ye other gates inye south- petty Customes ward being at this assembly for ye ensuing yeare commencing to- morrow morning 8c thence- St. John's Gate, forth to be compleatly ended canted at 100/. 105. 00 d. by Hugh Montgomery, It is canted at 1001.10s. 617.
