Nos. 32, 33, 34.] ON FEES, GRATUITIES, See.-( Poft- Office) No. 32. Sir, General Poft: Office, July 19th 1809. I Feel it my duty to acquaint you for the Information of the Commiffioners of Enquiry, that I have refunded to the Post Office Revenue ^ 19 18 being the Amcuit drawn by me beyond the sum actually expended for loading and cleaning the Mail Guards Arms, from the 6th of January 1808 to the 5th of April 1809, at 3- I guineas per quarter. I have the honour to be, Sir, Plunket, Esq. Your most humble and obedient Servant, & c. & c. & c. J. Ferguson, Surveyor and Superintendant. No. 33. The Examination of Mr.
RICHARD CLARKE ; taken upon Oath, the 18th and 22d of May 1809. This Examinant faith, That he was Ading Clerk of the Munster Road, but has now retired as fupcrannuated, having been 34 years in the Employment of the Post Office. Examinant fays, that Mr. Trevor Hill, who was formerly Acting Clerk of the North Road, together with Examinant, have a privilege of fupplying English Newspapers in Dublin to Printers, Clubs and Coffee- houfes, and to any other Perfons previous to the general Delivery of the Britifh Mail; papers fo delivered are called Exprefs Papers. Mr. Hill receives two- thirds of the net profits on the
delivery of fuch Papers, Examinant one- third ; the expencc of Mcflengers for delivering Express Papers is paid by Mr. Hill and Examinant proportionally ; there is no delay occasioned in the business of delivering the English Mail by the Express Papers, as all Newspapers intended to be so delivered, are sent from England in a separate parcel directed to Mr. Hill, and received by Mr. Stephen Dejoncourt, a Clerk in the Inland Office, who gives them to the Messen- gers to be by them sorted and delivered ; the additional expence on an English Paper taken bv express is about five pounds a year. Examinant's net thirds of the profits
