From Returns rrade thr- e tim- s" a week by the Inland Office, the Accountant Genera! keeps an Account of the daily charge > Jmft the Letter Carners and Alphabet, for the Portage on inland Letters belongffip to the Dublin delivery ; and from the Packet Book kept in the Britiffi Mail Office, for Brmlh Maiis by Holv- head inwards, an Account of the like charges for British Letters. He likewifc : keeps ' an Account of the charge againil each Deputy Postmaster, taken from the several Returns marie by the Letter Bill Office, the Bye Letter Office, and the Postmaster of WWe. ford and Donaghadee, for Britiffi Letters for Haverford West and Port Patrick reffteaively alio an account of the charge againft the Window- man in'the Paid Letter Office, taken from a weekly Abftraft, furniffied by him of the Poftage received in Dublin for poft- paid Letters, and of the feveral payments made thereout, the balance whereof is certified to the Treaffirer • aifo an Account of the amount of the Penny- port balances taken from a quarterly Return thereof made to him by the Compiroller of the Penny Port, and an Account' of the receipts fcr ExprefTes taken from the Exprefs Book kept in the Secretary's Office. The Treafurcr furnifhes to the Accountant General every week two Weekly Abstracts, one of his re- ceipts only, ihe other of his receipts and payments, except those made into the Bank -, of this latter Abftraft he receives five copies, which after having examined and figned he returns to the Treafurer. The receipts from the Letter Carriers, Alphabet, Window- man, and on Account of Penny Poll balances are compared with the charges already entered under thefe heads. The receipts by drafts on ( he Bank are taken on the Treafurer's Return alone. Thofe on account of Deputies' remittances, are compared quarterly, with a Return made weekly by the Remittance Clerk, of the fums for which each Deputy is to get credit, but Examinant never finds them to agree, the former generally exceeding the latter. Tiiefe feveral receipts, together with the mifcellaneous receipts, such as for Deputies or Letter Carriers arrears, which occur but occafionally, are entered to the debit of the Treafurer, in an Account of that Officer's receipts and payments kept by the Accountant General; and the payments as ftated in the Weekly Abftra£ l of receipts and payments, ( which fince Examinant's appoin; ment to the Office of Accountant General has not been accompanied by any Vouchers) are entered to his credit. In like Manner the Treasurer's payments into the Bank are entered to his crcdit from his own Return, the Bank pass- book not being produced to EN- aminant. From this Account, which is brought to a close every quarter, a Caffi Account is made out of the Treafurer's receipts and payments during the quarter, which is compare.) as to the principal items with the Treafurer's book for the like period, but no other ufe is made of it. Befides the above- mentioned Account, the Accountant General, to enable him to ilate the general Account of the Irifh Port: Office Revenue, and the Account with the Britiffi Poft Office, keeps an Account taken from the Packet- book for British Mails by Holy- head outwards, of the Poftage to Dublin on Letters from the Country of Ireland for Great Britain, and of the Britiffi Poftage received in Ireland, on Letters post- paid for Great Britain by Holyhead ; and from the Packet- book for British Mails by Holyhead inwards; an Account of the Britiffi Poftage on Letters for Dublin and the country of Ireland, and of the Iriffi Poftage on Letters for Ireland poft- paid in England. From Returns made weekly by the Poftmafter of Waterford, taken from the Accounts kept by him of the Britiffi Mails in- wards and outwards by Haverford Weft, he keeps an Account of the British Poftage on the unpaid Letters from Great Britain, of the Irish Postage received in England on Letters for Ireland, of the Poftage to Waterford on Letters for England, and of the British Postage re- ceived in Ireland on Letters for England by Waterford and Haverford West, and from fimilar Returns made by the Poftmafter ot Donaghadee, he keeps a like Account of the Postage on Letters fent to and received from Great Britain by Port Patrick. The Accountant General makes up quarterly a Statement of the Poft Office Account between Great Britain and Ire- land, in which the Iriffi Poft Office is made Dr and Cr. A copy of this Statement is figned by him and fent to the London Poft Office, and a Return of the amount of the balance is fent to the Treafurer for the purpofe of his remitting accordingly. He also makes up quarterly a Statement of the Poft Office Revenue of Ireland, in which the Irish Post Office is likewife made Dr and Cr, and a balance struck. Fred. Geale, George Rochfort Cha.
