The falaries of the Mail Coach and Mail Guard eflablijhment, thefe are made up in the Office of the Superintendent of Mail Coaches and paid on his return. Remittances In ^ England, on account of the balances due to the London Foil Office, and Remittances to De- puties who have over remitted, for the amount'of the balances appearing from the Account kept in the Accountant General's Officc to be due to them at the < lofe of the quarter; for thefe payments no Voucher is produced to the Accountant General, owing to Examinant not having any in his pofieffion at the lime he makes up the Weekly Abftraft in which credit is taken for them, nor is he ever called 011 to produce them at any fubfequent period. At the clofe of the quarter, Examinant draws out of the Pofl: Office fund in the Bank and lodges to his own private Account the whole fum requifite for paying the eftablidiment'for tire quarter, the amount of which is afcertained, and fo much as he estimates may be neceflary to pay the Incident Lills. The money f - drawn out of the Bank he continues pay- ing away as long as it lafts. From Officers for their falaries lie gets no other acknowledg- ment than their figning the book of the eftablifhment. For incident lulls he gets receipts. The receipts lor payments into tlie Treafury are o ten delayed in being delivered to Exa- minant for a confiderable time afier the payment, and thpfe for remittances to England and tb the Deputies, cannot be had until after the week in which credit is taken for them. Exami- nant in his weekly Abftraft of receipts returned to the Accountant General, charges himfelf with the receipts of the amount of the whole charge againft Le: ter Carriers whether paid or not, and charges himfelf in like manner in his Abstract ot receipts and payments, tdking credit on the difcharge fide of the latter Abltraft, for the amount of outstanding arrears by the authority of an order from the Secretary for that purpose, and in the subsequent Weekly Ab- flraft of receipts and payments he charges himfelf lor the arrear when paid. In Examinant's Office, there is a h! t made out and fent daily to the Lords of the Treasury of bills received, from the Country according as they are accepted, specifying the Post Town from whence thev have been remitted, and me particulars of each bill. HARRISON Oat If, the 15th d. iy of March and 2 tit ol April 1809. taken upon This Examinant faith, That he is Clerk of Remittances in the Office of the Secretary to the General Post Office of Ireland. Remittances are made by the Deputy Poftmafters to the Secretary, arid are fometimes in bills and fometimes in calh. O. i receiving bills he enters the particulars thereof in his bill- book, and hands them to the junior Cltrk in the TreaCarer's O. iice, who gets them accepted, and lodges them in the Bank ; but Examinant gets no acknowledg- ment on account of fuch bills until they are paid ; an Account whereof is returned to him weekly bv the Treafurer, fiom which he enters the particulars in his bill- book. At the end of each quarter Examinant enters the grofs amount ot the bills received during the quarter; the amount of the bills paid within the quarter, and the amount remaining due. E^ a- minant pavs over to the Treafurer all remittances made in cafh immediately upon the receipts thereof, exczpt Bank poft- bills, which Examinant gives to the junior Clerk to get acccpted, and receives again from him when accepted, retaining them till they fall due, when they are handed over to the Treafurer. Under the denomination of C2FFI, are included pen- fioners bill-., barrack receipts, country bank notes payable in Dublin, See. alfo money orders, which are fuch as are drawn by the General Poft Office, or any of the Deputy Poftmafters of England, on the General Polt Office or Deputy Poftmafters of Leland, for the payment of fmall f'nns not exceeding five Guineas, the amount of which is received by Examinant from an Agent employed for the payment thereof by the Britifh Poft Office. Thefe orders in fome years, according to the belt calculation Examinant can make, have amounted to £. 8,000. Examinant keeps a caffi- book for each of the Inland divifions, in which he enters on its receipt the calh received from the feven. l Deputy Poftmafters of the diviGon, and weekly the amount of fuch of the bills remitted as have been paid during the week. He gets a receipt from the Treafurer for the money paid to him in every week, but makes no regular entry thereof. On the Saturday in every week Examinant makes a Return to the Accountant General of the fums lor which each Deputy is to get credit for cafh remittances, and for bills that have been paid during the week. The cafh- book for each divifion is brought to a total once a quarter, and compared and checked with the Treafurer's receipts, with which it muft agree, as alfo with each Account kept by the Accountant General made up from the Returns ahove mentioned.
