Ax ACCOUNT of the computed Profits of the under- mentioned Clerks of the Roads; extracted from their Returns for Compenfation, in the feven years ending 5th January 1809. ( B.) No. 19. MR. Lees prefents his compliments to Mr. Plunkett, and in reply to his letter of yeflerdav, he begs to acquaint him, for the information of the Commiffioners of Enquiry; that the Accounts therein alluded to, and referred to in his communication of 8th inftant, as having been diredted by the Minute of the Poftmafters General to be prepared as between the Clerks of the Roads and the Public, have not been prepared ; nor is it in the power of Mr. Lees to prepare them, not having in his polfellion documents of fufficient authenticity to enable him to carry into effect the directions contained in their Lordfhips Minute, neither poffefling himfelf, nor being aware that the Poftmafters General poffefs, means of a nature fufficiently legal, to enable them to eftablifh the amount of profits received within the years ftated in the Minute alluded to, by any one of the Clerks of the Roads ; Mr. L. however, prefumes, from his opinion of the powers vefted in the Commiffioners of Enquiry by the Adt of the Legiflature, under which they exercife their authority, that they poffefs ample power to inftitute, by fworn Examination, fuch an inveftigalion as cannot fail to obtain the defired information which Mr. L. regrets that he cannot afford.
