N° 11.] ON F E E S , G R A T U I T I E S , & c.-( Excifc Duties.) No. it. Excifc Office, Dublin, 30th October 1S07 General Order. 3N° 103. Sir, The Board obferving the number of applications made to them by Diftillers,. Maltfters and others, fubjeft to the payment of Excife Duties, praying the remiffion of certain charges brought by the Officers of Excife, under and in purfuance of the - different ACts of Parliament for regulating and collecting fuch Dunes reflectively ; but more cfpecially by the Diftillers and M. iltfters than by anv other fet of Tracers in the Country, have thought it neceffary to eftablifh the following Rules for regulaiing the grounds upon which the Board will in future entertain any applicanon upon the part of fuch Traders, for the reduction of any charge brought by any of then- Officers. Firft, That when any accident happens in the works or to the utenfds of any Trader, dealing in or manufacturing any Excitable Goods, whereby any fuch perfons fhall be prevented in the progrefs of their work, or for which fuch Trader fhall con- ceive that he has any claim on the Board for any reduction or allowance in the charge brought or to be brought againft him by the Officer, fuch i'rader ( hall immediatelv, on any fuch accident occurring in your diftriCt:, communicate the particulars thereof to the Board by letter, to be forwarded by the very next poft after fuch accident fhall have arifen, or in failure or negleCt thereof the Board will not entertain any future application from any Trader founded on any fuch occurrence or accident, which fhall not be fo reported to them by the Trader himfelf, or by fome perfon authorized by him, or which he fhall not in like manner communicate to you. That upon your receiving any fuch notice as hereinbefore diredted to be ferved upon you, you do immediately, if in your refidence, proceed to the place where • fuch accident fhall be ftaced to have happened, taking with you any Officer of Excife you fhall think proper; but if you fhould not immediately meet fome Offcer of Excife, you muft, in fuch cafe, proceed alone, and by your own view afcertain the faCt, as Itated to you by the Trader; but if fuch accident fhouid not have happened in your refidence, you are immediately to fend a confidential Officer of Excife to the fpot, with directions to examine moft minutely in: o the faCts, which he is forth- with to ftate to you, to be by you returned to the Board. That any Trader refident in your diftrift intending to apply for any fuch allowance as herein is before ftated, fhall tranfmit fuch application to you, and you are, before you tranfmit the fame to the Board, to report thereon all the faCts refpeCting it which have come to your knowledge, or through the medium of any other InfpeCting Officer. That all Traders fo applying, and you and all Officers infpeCting or reporting upon any accident hereinbefore alluded to, are to underftand that you and they will be refpeCtively called upon, in the moft folemn manner, to verify upon Oath whatever you or they, or either of them, fhall do or caufe to be done in the prcmifes. That notwithftanding fuch application pending, you do not delay enforcing pay- ment of the Duty due to the Crown, if there fhould be any at the time, the Board being refolved to enforce the punCtual payment of the Duties, and to hold you ac- countable for it. And finally, you will herewith receive a competent number of copies of this Order, which you are to diftribute to every Diftiller, Maltfter, Tobacconift, Paper- maker, Tanner, Paper- ftainer, and others in your diftriCt whom it may concern, as they take out their Licences refpeCtively; and you are alfo to deliver copies thereof to all your Officers. r , ^ - n- By Order of the Commiffioners, George IValler.
