Stated he had a small farm at Staple- ford, and had a horse which was lame, obtained some liniment from loser, and asked for the loan of £ 1. as he had come without his money and wished to go to Chester on business.— A Man, gave the name of Good, 5ft. 7in., medium build, c. fresh, protruding chin, sunken cheeks ; dress, It. coloured overcoat, believed belt all round, cap, heavy dirty boots. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt., Oakmere. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. — Bristol ( City).— For obtaining £ 3 by false pretences, on 9th inst. Sold to a jeweller 6 rings, which he represented were gold and were afterwards found to be made of brass.— Harold Norman Day, C. R. O. No. 7401- 28, b. ( Weston- super- Mare) 1911, a labourer, 5ft. 3in., stocky build, c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. blue, birthmark near chin. Pre. con. of larceny, housebreaking, fraud and a minor offence at WESTON- SUPER- MARE and on F. May be in possession of a Morris Oxford motor car, No. UD- 1267, chassis No. 209586, engine No. 234914, saloon, red body and black wheels, which he hired in Bristol on the 15th inst., but has failed to return. KENT. >•' 10.— Maidstone ( Boro.).— For obtaining by false pretences ( worthless cheque), lady s 18ct. ring, half- hoop pattern, white gold shank, set 3 diamonds in platinum claw setting ; gent's plain 18ct. signet ring, oval top. On 21st inst. called at a jeweller's shop and selected the above described rings. Presented in payment a cheque, No. 033107, on Lloyd's Bank, Ltd., Cannock, for £ 26 12s. 6d. ( value of rings), signed G. H. Hughes. Was allowed to take the rings. Cheque was subsequently returned marked No Account. This cheque is from a book stolen vide € ase No. 6, 17- 12- 34.— A Man, gave name of G. H. Hughes, b. 1885 to 1895, 5ft. 8m., medium build, c. fresh, thin face, clean shaven ; dress, brown mixture sports coat, grey flannel trousers, Trilby hat, collar and tie ; respectable appearance. Entered chemist's shop, selected the below- described articles, was given bill to pay at cash desk which he failed to do, and left with the property.— Lady's blue leather dressing case, zip fastener, containing hair brushes, mirrors, manicure set, etc. ; gent's brown leather dressing case, zip fastener, containing hair brushes, dental cream and shaving soaps.— A Man, b. 1900, oft. 5in., good build, e. brown, rather large nose, well spoken ; dress, new Burberry raincoat, grey cap; carrying yellow hogskin gloves. PERSONS WANTED— continued. 12.— Bury ( Co.).— For breach of recognizance entered into by him on 31- 10- 34, at Radcliffe Pol. Ct., when he was bound over for 3 yrs. on probation. Left his home at Whitefield on 13th inst. and stated his intention of joining the Army.— Ronald Arthur Singleton, b. ( Manchester) 1919, an apprentice painter, 5ft. 7in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. hazel; dress, navy blue overcoat, It. check suit, It. grey Trilby hat, black patent shoes, soft collar and tie. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt., Bury. 13.— Salford ( City).— For stealing postal orders, postage stamps and cash by trick, 22nd inst. Accosted young boy whom he had previously observed making purchases at a branch post office. Said there was something wrong with the 10s. note he had tendered and asked his address. Induced boy to hand over purchases and change and told him to get a note from the person who had originally sent him to make the purchases and return to the post office. Man went away in the direction of the post office and upon enquiries being made later, his story was found to be false. In another case which occurred about ten minutes earlier, man of similar description intercepted young girl who had been unable to obtain a £ 1 postal order at another sub- post office. In that case induced the girl to part with 21s. by means of a similar trick, and afterwards absconded.— A Man, b. 1914, 5ft. 6 or 7in., slim build, c. pale, h. dk. ( brushed back), small dk. moustache, thin lace ; dress, small black and grey check pattern overcoat, grey check suit, white soft collar, no hat. Inf. to C. C., Salford. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 14.— Northampton ( Boro.).— For larceny ( lodgings) and obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences. Obtained lodgings on 22nd inst., Smith stating he was employed by Cullens, Wholesale Grocers of London, and that he had to make Northampton his headquarters for the next two yrs. They absconded on 25th inst., and the following property was missed : blue fibre suit- case, measuring 24 x 14 x 8in. ; pair gent's patent leather shoes, size 7, F. W. H. on sole, new ; black and white striped shirt, 15| in. neck, Banner brand, maker F. B. Hawkins, initials V. J. on collar ; pair pants and vest, Interlock woven, initials V. J. ; half doz. white handkerchiefs, various coloured borders, initials V. J. in corners ; 5 neckties ( 1 brown stripe, 1 brown striped silk, 1 black and white 4- way tie, 1 self Oxford blue, 1 speckled brown).— Harold Smith, C. R. O. No. 20074- 17 ; dress, dk. grey suit, red mixture overcoat, grey Trilby hat, brown shoes.— Lily Jobson, C. R. O. WARWICKSHIRE. 15.— Coventry ( City).— For ( 1) obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences ; ( 2) stealing lady's gold dress ring, set with amethyst, surrounded with pearls ( 2 pearls missing) ; gent's overcoat, Bannockburn tweed, dk. brown, single- breasted, no belt, lined shoulders ; lady's tweed skirt, 32in. waist; 5yds. of blue and white £ in. squared silk ; from their lodgings between 18th and 20th inst. Called on loser and gave the names of Mr. and Mrs. Bosworth. Smith stated he was a traveller employed by Cullens, Wholesale Grocers, of Bishopsgate, London and would be engaged locally for a few weeks at a salary of £ 5 a week and commission. Called at railwaymen's coffee tavern, stated that a Mr. Nightingale, the Permanent Way Inspector of the L. M. S. Railway Co., had given him a job to start work at 7 a. m. on 25th inst. ( false) ; that he was temporarily short of cash and asked for the loan of £ 1 until he received his first week's wages. In the course of conversation stated he was well known at Bletchley, where his father had worked on the L. M. S. Railway permanent way, and that his brother had a wood business there.— Charles Tarbox, b. 1903, 5ft. 9in., thin build, c. fresh, h. fair, e. Went to milk salesman in street who had just received £ 1 note from a customer and stated he was a detective in the Manchester City Police Force, and that he wanted the note to take to the Town Hall, Manchester, for examination as he thought it was counter- feit. Salesman refused to hand the note over unless prisoner accompanied him to the milk depot to see the foreman, which he did. He was then given the £ 1 note, and the salesman becoming suspicious, followed him and informed the Police.— Stanley Crawshaw, aliases Jack Wilson, Jackson and Detective Ward, C. R. O.
