ESSEX. 5.— Braintree ( Co.).— For embezzlement.— William Robert Gower, b. 1884, 5ft. 3 or 4in., thin build, c. sallow, h. dk. ( bald top), pointed chin, foreign accent; dress, dk. grey coat, waistcoat and trousers, cardigan ( Pike, Braintree, on tab), officer's khaki overcoat, It. cap, wore spectacles repaired with string 1. side. A traveller. Was employed by local firm who supplied glassware and fittings for public houses. Numerous licencees gave him orders and after the goods had been supplied, called on purchasers, collected money for the goods and converted it to his use. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Pre. con. of fraud, larceny, cyclestealing and bigamy at BRIGHTON ( Sydney Franklin), in CITY OF LONDON ( Sidney William Pearce) and on E, H, L, P, S and W. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 7.— Portsmouth ( Boro.).— For stealing ( bailee), at Southsea, 16th inst., leather dressing case, 27 x 15 x 9in., lined It. grey moire silk, silver fittings ; brown crocodile skin handbag, 2 claws in front, lined brown suede, about 15in. long.— Jeane Wallace, b. about 1866, 5ft. 3in., stout build, c. pale, h. grey ; dress, long black fur coat, wore several diamond rings. Called on a leather merchant, and after purchasing a bag, asked the shopman to send the above bags to her shop for her daughter to choose one. She failed to return the bags, and enquiries showed that she had left the premises she formerly occupied. Believed to have been in business at Southampton before ccming to Southsea. Accompanied by her daughter ( not wanted), b. about 1907, 5ft. 3in., stout build, h. very dk. ; dress, long black silk coat ( trimmed It. fur). Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Portsmouth. LANCASHIRE. 9.— Leigh ( Co.).— For obtaining 15s. by false pretences, 18th inst.— William Goodwin, b. 1886, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. sallow, h. dk. brown, e. brown, heavy moustache, bowlegged ; dress, brown suit, grey cardigan, cap, boots. A collier ; native of Leigh. Got into conversation with loser in a public house and offered to find him employ ment. Requested loan to pay fare to Durham, was handed 15s., arranged appointment but failed to keep same. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Whitehead, Leigh. 10.— Manchester ( City).— For false pretences.— Leonard P. Higgins, b. 1881, 5ft. 4in., medium build, c. fresh, short dk. moustache, plausible ; dress, navy blue suit, brown blanket overcoat, collar, tie, bowler hat. Called on shopkeeper, 16th inst., and induced her to cash a cheque for £ 5, drawn on Manchester and County Bank, Rusholme, Manchester. Stated he was making arrangements for his sister's wedding party and ordered a bride's cake, promised to confirm order but failed to do so. Cheque was later returned from bank marked No Account. In October last went to stay at temperance hotel at Talgarth with a Miss Lobardi for purpose of being near latter's brother who is under treatment at a sanitorium. Professed to be about to receive large sum of money and made extravagant promises to induce people to lend her cash. In present case sold shares in gold mine at £ 5 5s. which would produce almost an equal sum weekly as profit, gave receipt and said shares would be allotted at a meeting to be held in 3 weeks. On strength of her statement contracted large debt at hotel ( which will be subject of another charge) and on 18th inst. left saying she would return following day, but absconded. In October last she also went to a neighbouring town, visited a cafe, sold quantity of furniture said to be in Durham and received £ 7 on account, but nothing further was heard of her.— Annie Nelson, aliases Bertha Moss Hall, Annie Woods and Annie Moss, C. Hastings ( Boro.).— For obtaining by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 15th ult., £ 5.— Ellen Jones, alias Mrs. Shirley Ryan, 1). 1886., 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. pale, h. dk. brown, plausible ; dress, long grev coat and close fitting hat, CaJls on Catholic priests and at convents and says she is expecting allowance from her mother in Ireland, or is having her bank account trans- ferred. Usually writes cheques on notepaper. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Hastings. ., Warrington. RENFREWSHIRE.
